10261  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to get started on: May 02, 2015, 02:12:54 AM
First thing is deciding what you want to learn about.  Bitcoin is a massive subject overall.  Just ton's of topics to it.

If you want to learn mining, trading, just in general.  Once you decide on this we can direct you to a better topic for it.   You really have to narrow it down and eventually you can know about them all.  But just take it slow.
10262  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Question About S3+ Miners. on: May 02, 2015, 02:08:53 AM
You need some kind of active airflow to remove the heat.  Besides, that little fan is not what is costing you the electricity... that would be those power-hungry ASICs Smiley

If you can mix airflow with underclocked chances are the best outcome.  Just use fan's not AC to cool them.

One advantage with underclocked S3 is quiter when running.
10263  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Anminer C9 speculation thread on: May 02, 2015, 02:07:08 AM
I am speculating that C9 will have 9TH and uses gasoline as a cooling liquid.

boom boom boom every time it hits a block.

I know this is spec but such a silly coolant ; gasoline.   Cheesy

He just forgot to include the fact that the whole thing is then sealed within an Argon filled chamber. As long as you keep the Oxygen away, it works just great!  Cheesy

Actually syscooling already provided a sealed chamber that got hot and would bust open from power.... they called it a pump  Smiley.

I would worry they would be mad about this post but they pretty much gave up on bitcoin equipment I think.
10264  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next consumer model miner on: May 02, 2015, 02:05:15 AM
I think they are only ones looking into a small miner.  Seems to be a smaller market.
Avalon is or was planning a 100Gh/s model, which should be a small miner.  SFARDS is also willing to work with integrators for smaller miners.  Both would be based on new chips, though, so have to await availability.  SFARDS's chip should be out Soon™

The new chips are the key for either.  Without new chips it wont get much traction on sales.

I think the market for 100 GHs or smaller is getting smaller and smaller.  With btc hash rates and pay, I think these models are better for learning.    But as far as setting up much mining at homes in most cases bigger hash rate miners make sense.  That is my opinion though.
10265  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Am I too Late?! on: May 02, 2015, 02:01:14 AM
I am too late to jump on this band wagon?

Only a few years Wink

I would not say completly to late.  I for see a chance until next having.

You do have to mine smart.  And it will not be a 3 month ROI.   If you are lucky with cheap electricity yes it can be done.   But if you are in a place with a VAT or high electricity you might not make ROI.
10266  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newest Diff thread April 19th to May 1st-Closed for picks!! on: May 02, 2015, 01:59:32 AM

I can tell you that bitmain instead recognize that if there is a fault in their products you change them as collateral, the problem lies in the distance, I am in Italy and last week I sent my pcb for replacement, now I and realized I was stuck in customs, because by mistake my wife has put a value of 100 euro, then surely they contacted the recipient had to pay and he refused, and then was blocked, now I have to wait for Monday to get in touch with and tnt solve the problem, some bitmain could already send me the new pcb, who still has not sent me

I am sure that you received the letter with same instructions :

Bitmain, Apr 7,

Hi

Please return the following item to the below address in Serbia.  Please mark each
value as $5 each as Dead Electronic Parts.

Please let us know the tracking number after you ship them.  You can use the
cheapest shipping method as long as there is a tracking number.

.........

I thought there was instructions I could not remember the amount.  Knew it was not much since it's a non working part.

On the way to customer I can see it having value as it's working then.  But a dead part does not carry much value, especially 100 dollars.
10268  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: May 02, 2015, 01:53:31 AM
Odd.  I've been running my two C1's at 243.75/0675,960-985GH/s so they'd last longer.  One has dropped a hundred GH/s to 848GH/s repeatedly the last few days.  Raised the voltage from 0675 to 0700 and again have 977.44GH/s(avg) after an hour.  It had been running so well at 0675 and the only change was that I moved the miner from the bottom shelf of a 4 shelf cart to the top.  Dust buildup rate while on the bottom shelf was too much to ask.  Low pressure air cleaning of internal dust while it was shut down didn't return it to its former rate at 0675.

That may be due to heat paste decay. BTW, not sure whether that term actually exists, but it is one that I relate to gradual loss of abilities in heat dissipation, either due to a rise in ambient temps or heat paste losing it's conductive properties. I coined that from my laptop repair days where a clean out of heat paste from the CPU )and GPU) coupled with an application of new paste cured most random shutdowns. I have to say I upgraded all my antminers to heatpads (good quality ones).

Seems to be dropping again.  Down to 930GH/s.  May have to rip it apart.

If you happen to please document it.  Share it and tell us results.  I have one myself I'm not sure that it might benefit from it.
10269  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Summer Mining - Fans/Other summer equipment on: May 02, 2015, 01:37:49 AM
Still playing around with the area to see what is best.   I will have some pictures uploaded later tonight of my tarp ductwork.

It saved me around 140 dollars to use tarps I had laying around compared to the duct work I linked earlier.
10270  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 4.1 Miner- Summer Mining - Notlist3d on: May 02, 2015, 01:25:14 AM
There is a new youtube video for the Avalon 4.1 on the Ehash site.  But it appears site is having problems.

Once site is up I will link to the youtube video.
10271  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: May 02, 2015, 01:22:52 AM
One small item of note. While I completely agree that 4 underclocked SP20's are the way to go, Phil's "open door" picture might be a shade misleading. At the time that picture was taken, I'll bet the air temp outside was 5C or less. It's not obvious to me exactly how to best cool a miner when the incoming air is 35C. I get the exhaust plan and all that, but you can't get low temps when you start with 35C air.

No it obviously is a winter photo.  During the summer that would not be a option.  In most houses you would have AC escaping outside.

Winter is much easier mining then summer.  Much more enjoyable.

Some act better then others.  It seems that each one has it's own personality.  I have one it could run a month without touching it.  No issues at all.

Other a few times a week it likes a power off/on. I have not looked at paste, redoing it might fix the problem.  But I have taken easy route so far.
10273  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer s3 variability frecuensy on: May 01, 2015, 07:10:08 PM
i already moved on antpool.

i think this pool more is profitable at some point

It has luck based on it.   Antpool overall should equal 100 percent.  But keep in mind it varies per day.

I still strongly recommend you read about the types of pools.  It will really help you understand them.
10274  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Question About S3+ Miners. on: May 01, 2015, 07:08:27 PM
If i took the case and fans off of my S3's and put them in an air cooled environment this would draw less power correct? So in other words could doing that make them more cost effective to keep running?

This is just an idea and if its dumb please just try and not ripping me a new one ()().... Wink

Thanks again guys.

Only thing really is to underclock.   You can do this and get a little more life out of them.

The S3 will also put out less heat this was, so less cooling is needed.  Not to mention it will be more quiet.
10275  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: May 01, 2015, 07:07:06 PM
How much time do you think SP20 could do a good work? 2017? or less?

because 4 machines + 4 Power supply (EVGA 1300) cost 2800 usd more or less. and it will give you 400 per month running at 1.4 th each one (5.6 th). so you will get your money back in 8 months, suppose you have cheap energy. Am I right?

No you are wrong as you do not need 4 evga 1300 to run them.

Under clock them to 1100gh each and you can run 2 of them on 1 evga 1300 lowers your buy in price  by 300-400 usd

you use .52 watts a gh at the wall

if you push them like a mofo  to 1500-1600gh you need a evga  for each one and you spend 1200 watts to get say 1600gh

so 2 evgas using 2300watts  runs 4 doing 4400gh

or 4 evga  using  4800watts  runs 4 doing 6400gh

the first case is almost always the better way to run sp20's..

 in the second case

the power efficiency  is .75 watts a gh and you purchased 2 extra evga's .  The blow your gear  up or burn your gear up  risk is much higher.

and you start out 300 to 4oo usd in the hole due to 2 extra psus.

One last thing the extra 2500 watts spent causes close to 10,000 btu 's of extra heat.  So cooling is harder to do.

Thanks for your answer.

If in the second case you put an air condition near that raid, what would you think the result could be?

Just like philipma1957 said the worst thing you could do is use AC to cool down your miners.  You will be paying way to much to get them cool.

It's best done with regular fan's and an exhaust.  It's a little tricky to get setup right, but ac is not the way to go.
10276  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Review of Avalon-4.1 on: May 01, 2015, 07:04:13 PM
Been running at

Chip Freq------------Voltage------
420:390:360_______   7625_____

Getting a consistent 950 Gh/s with peaks around 1.1 Th/s and bottoms generally just under 800 Gh/s.  Very pleased just wish they could come down a little on the price!

yeah that slight underclock number works well. I am doing a deeper under clock at

FREQ   325:275:250

VOLTS  7000

I get 1420 for 2 machines and use 720 watts

This would be  710gh and 360 watts for 1 machine

  0.507 watts a gh

I am very happy with sound levels

The sound levels really are amazing.  Even posting about it I don't think most will understand how quiet they are.

I tried a youtube video, but it did not do it justice.   No other miner comes close to it.
10277  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: mining profitable on: May 01, 2015, 07:02:03 PM
paperclip can be fault that drop down ghs?

This is more a subject for in hardware or beginner.  Please contact Bitmain as they offered to help you with their support.

But no the paperclip to turn on the PSU will not cause a drop in ghs.
10278  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next consumer model miner on: May 01, 2015, 07:00:39 PM
Le bumpage.

Anyone else out there looking to do the next small thing other than Gekko?

I think they are only ones looking into a small miner.  Seems to be a smaller market.

I will be excited to see Gekko's miner, I'm hoping it all goes well with making it.
10279  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: mining profitable on: May 01, 2015, 04:19:33 PM
The number you need to look at is not the one you circled, but rather the one next to it: 410.46.  That one represents your average hash rate over time.

You definitely have a lower hash rate than you should with that S3.  At a frequency of 225, you should be averaging 453GH/s or so.  Also, set backup pools!  If for some reason you cannot connect to AntPool, your miner will sit idle.  That would contribute to the undervalued hash rate.

Google Translate:

Electricity can be fault ?

Yes it could be a reason of it going slower.   Espically if cheap PSU.

Do you have 2 cords plugged in or 4?
