What is the most plausible theory for more than two months of silence re Neptune despite apparent discontent of customers?
Here is my speculation on possibilities (from the most probable #1 to almost impossible #5):
1. They are experiencing significant difficulties with Neptune design and want to overcome those problems before updating.
2. They are positioning to change their business model from selling individual units to the "fair shake" cloudhashing model, where customers will be buying slots in the icelandic super-mine managed by KnC. Everyone who ordered Neptune would be offered a slot with a modest increase in hashing power (to 3.5-4TH), but will have to pay extra for "hosting".
3. They were bought by someone or majority bought by a third party (perhaps even by a government-controlled entity).
4. They were bought/invested into by 21e6 (or merged with 21e6). Alternatively, they were supplying Jupiters to a single unknown party (cloudhashing?).
5. They are resting on their prior success and "taking it easy".

1. No
2. Perhaps
3. No
4. No
5. No

It may not be outside the realm of possibilities that they have other projects they are working on?
JOE hit nail on the head.

it was obvious in December they got no plans for Neptune

Not sure if I get your point. How was it obvious?
10283  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: February 04, 2014, 04:42:08 AM
I'm a largish CT customer, and I was a largish BFL customer before them. I don't buy again from companies that screw me, and if none of us do, they'll disappear.

Well, it can work in reverse too. If you order from a company that does not ship on time (or for a long time like BFL), you get less income from mining and would not be able to compete with more successful miners who happened to order from more reliable companies. Basically, darwinian evolution of miners based on random factors. I think that CT is OK, mind you, in comparison with some other actors.

Anybody care to predict BTC price if Mt. Gox abruptly runs out of business?
Bearish short term, bullish long term, neutral?
10286  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how are you promoted from newbie to jr? on: February 02, 2014, 07:59:19 PM
You have to have 30 activity to become a jr-member.

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Thanks, this is much appreciated.
10287  Other / Beginners & Help / how are you promoted from newbie to jr? on: February 02, 2014, 07:07:23 PM
Promotion-Not sure how this works now. Is there a "special action" to get a jr: time spent or messages posted?
What does activity mean? I keep posting, but "activity" number stays the same.
Thanks!

I don't see how they could pull it off by March 20 (end of winter-many countries count end of winter by Spring equinox), unless they did a lot of work without informing anyone-it would be a first for KnC, but probably a logical progression in their evolution. I sincerely hope for both batches zero and 1 in April.

What do you guys use for PDU and cable for PSU? PSU can handle 240V, but I see that power cable that PSU are supplied with depends on where you buy PSU and in US it is a 125V/15A cable. How this would work if PDU supplies 208V after being connected to a 240V socket (dryer or oven)?
Sorry if it did not make sense-electrical engineering is quite far away from my knowledge base.
10289  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 29, 2014, 09:36:02 PM
There is no KnC relevant information for the last 2mo (since nov 26).
What would be a topic under discussion? rumors?

the ultimate sign of an institutional failure is to invite a person who has no clue regarding the subject at hand and is engaged in fantasy projections.
Would someone responsible ever say..it will be $10 (from $800) in four months? He worked for FED? Is this how Fed workers predict the future? LOL
10291  Economy / Speculation / Re: NY Hearings - lets live blog this puppy : - ) on: January 29, 2014, 06:34:32 PM
I hope that they did not invite that Boston professor for the academic panel; he is just full of venom.

*Ed W. Felten- Professor of Computer Science and Public Affairs,
and Director of the Center for Information Technology Policy, Princeton University

*Susan Athey- Professor of Economics, Stanford University

They don't list all people on the panel-Overstock guy was not listed.

Bitcoin is the psychological experiment on the human race.
Read "Beetle in the anthill".
Depending on the outcome, we will (or will not) enter the "Galactic Empire"

As good a scenario as any other, LOL

Receding hairline dude??? Man has to know his limitations.
How can he regulate a miner in China, Canada or Bulgaria? He will regulate a miner in US, hence other countries will get more bitcoin-simple.
Charlie Lee had a brilliant proposition yesterday-all three word agencies have to start mining NOW-it will increase their budget, LOL.
He also thinks that miners are "strategic", LOL.
10295  Economy / Speculation / Re: NY Hearings - lets live blog this puppy : - ) on: January 29, 2014, 03:24:18 PM
1. there are no bitcoin exchanges in US
2. exchanges outside of US already required all docs
3. coinbase requires name, address, credit card, cell phone for level 2 account (50BTC or 50 thou later on)
10296  Economy / Speculation / Re: 790 people own half the bitcoins on: January 28, 2014, 10:47:04 PM
Interesting and probably accurate within 10-20%, but there are more 10-100 BTC owners for sure.
17BTC wallet ranks at 81K at http://btc.ondn.net/search, but should have rank significantly less than ~78K according to the table.

Watch out for that 'unknown' pool Wink

I like how coblee said the USG should mine to prevent a 51% attack

Who said they already don't do that. Notice the steeply rising "unknown" pool %. Unknown=US, china, etc.?
