I find it "amusing" that last summer there were updates every week, sometimes several times a week, but now almost two months has passed without a peep about Neptune.
10202  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 24, 2014, 09:20:50 PM
How is it different? Someone got Jupiter for 5K, but sells it for 12-15K on Ebay. Come on.
Life is unfair...someone did not log into computer at 6am in US or did not have 13k cash in the bank or something else.
In my opinion there cannot be one type or morality in one case (selling preorders) and another in the case of selling older/used machines.
If i bought iphone on ebay on day one for extra money, I would not pass judgement that someone "cut in line", I would say that the person did a service for me and I don't need to stay in stupid line for hours.
Besides, what is this stuff about "cutting in line"? How is this cutting in line when we already paid for it? It would be cutting in line if you sell your place in line, not AFTER your bank account got charged. If you paid for it-it is yours in any jurisdiction. Does free will ring a bell?
10203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 24, 2014, 08:05:01 PM
I totally disagree with him, of course...   why?  The existing que customer paid less, therefore has an advantage.

Right, was it fair to have both TIME and price advantage? Usually it is one or another, but both? It felt unfair for sure.
10204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 24, 2014, 07:46:16 PM
oh, so we can sell the machines for them, but we're not allowed to profit?  hahaha good luck with that

I wonder if this is something in north european culture that we are missing? In US "speculation" or "profit" is not considered unfair or something bad.

It seems that KnC considers selling preorders as unfair.
Is it? What is board's opinion on this?
In US we are perfectly in our right to sell preorders on pretty much anything: tickets, iphones, game consols (PS4, Xbox)
Why it is fair to sell used Jupiter for triple the price, but "not fair" to sell a preorder?
What? Every batch barring the upgrade boards have been preorder. What are you referring to?

Check out a stern note from "Kurt" on the company forum
I am talking about re-selling of preorders by individuals.

What would happen if we have 20-50 bil difficulty and BTC still at $800? Mad scramble for cheap electricity? It would be the most important parameter.
I have allocated fiat to both miners and BTC, will re-evaluate in 2 weeks.
It seems that most backlash here is from the ambiguous timing.
Interestingly, KnC will have facility in Iceland at some point:

All this talk about refunds...   why?   Giving up with mining, just leave the thread.    My 4 Neptunes....

I paid 12 BTC for my Neptune.  With refund I'll be getting about 16.

Unless you buy back today, you don't know what the price would be when you get the cash (in two-three weeks).

+ 1

Got 16.12 for my $13200.  Just waiting for the refund.

For the obvious reasons this strategy is valid only if price of bitcoin stays the same or goes up.
If tomorrow BTC is $500 you have no recourse, but to hold BTC or sell at a loss.

I think the Neptune as a machine will be OK, but i am not so sure that they will have a cheap and reliable hosting solution, especially if you have the machine working for a long time to make ROI-and this is a clincher for me. I am also not sure that everyone who made noises about selling really sold/refunded. However, if KnC had lots of refunds and did not care-this would be an indication that there is some plan afoot similar to cloudhashing.

I would't be surprised if later on KnC announces that Neptune will be just a bunch of hashing power in the datacenter.
Two other points:
1. Neptune is a god of sea in Roman mythology (hint-hint?)
2. Neptune is the last planet (Pluto does not count and they will not call some machine Uranus for obvious reasons).

Conclusion: Neptune will be the last and long lasting design and it will be either "under water" or "under liquid". Endgaget hints from Alex/Bitcoinorama concur.
10211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 23, 2014, 12:50:47 AM
Isn't Neptune the miner that Markus wanted to build all along??  It is Sam we should all toast every Oct since he put a firecracker in everyone's ass to ship first and everything else second

But since they say they can't build new controller boards anyway, their hands were tied.. nice that they were upfront about it

I still think Jupiters' power usage is fine since 'the long haul' is finding a really cheap place for electricity anyway.
So why waste all the time and money on 20nm etc blah blah design?

everyone seems to forget math when it comes to this love affair with power usage on this gen's miners
I thought that way briefly too lately but realize that mining is global and it is probably easier to find a cheap place in the world to run the miner than to bother with costly redesign

This!

Once Jupiter design was firm and internal costs perhaps a thou or two (probably even less), why not sell, sell sell? It surely beats the antminer. I cannot get my head around this conundrum. Bad example, but Apple was still selling freaking AppleII (or was it Lisa?) while they were burning midnight oil working on Mac.
10212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 23, 2014, 12:22:44 AM
"HODLing" does not apply to preorders?
I guess not. I am trying very hard to give them the benefit of the doubt, but judging by the sentiment here someone (cough...Sam...cough) needs to talk to the struggling public soon.
Edit: I don't really care for the meme, but found it relevant here
10213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 22, 2014, 11:35:42 PM
Think again. $40k gets you 5 TH delivered next week. By the time you get the Neptunes, difficulty will be much higher. 5 TH now is far more profitable than 12 TH several months from now.
5th next week? Who sells them?
25+ Antminers from Bitmain.
https://www.bitmaintech.com/product.htm
3th of Antminers = 5kw (by taking 300watts per Antminer) = 31.654BTC (without shipping) = 25.8k $
3th of Neptunes = 2.5kw = 14.6BTC = 12k $

Two times more $$$ and watts for the same hash-power.

There is a really big difference here. You really can't even get a Neptune for at least another several months so why even compare right now?

All my friends requested refunds also for their Neptunes. In the bunch I think there was like 18 of them. Don't be surprised if you see some go on sale or we hear some news from KNC now. Once they see their very loyal customer base is dumping them out I'm pretty sure we'll eventually hear some thing from them soon. They only have one spokesperson here who isn't a sales person and can't really confirm on anything since all decisions are made by Sam. Only a matter of time we'll hear something. Once you are a millionaire and see possible money that could be yours leaving your bank account it starts to make you worry, no matter how much you have.

Or those of us who stand pat get extra hashing power or some other recompense.

I am hoping that KnC sets up hosting in Iceland or Kansas, provide opportunity to put in our Neptunes and have a reasonable monthly rate. Neptune might become just a bunch of boards covered with Novec in a facility with cheap electricity somewhere. This would allow us to replace old chips with new on site as newer will be developed. In fact, the ideal situation for KnC would be for us just to have certain hashpower and have 5-10% in reserve which they can use to replenish broken units and in the mean time use to hash for themselves. I definitely think something like this could be and should be developed. Do you remember that Jupiter was supposed to be water cooled initially?

I am eager to hear about Neptunes hosting solutions.

Buy enough BTC to eventually able to take Virgin Galactic to at least Mars or give enough to kids/grandkids to go to Alpha Centauri by 2140. Wink

Averaging did not work well for me. Everytime I want to buy it is the same $800  Wink
10217  Economy / Speculation / Re: Someone please explain the speculation about bitcoin (People say 2-10k by 2015) on: January 22, 2014, 06:17:49 PM
if 5% of gold tries to buy bitcoin, bitcoin will jump well over 32K each.

it may take some time for poeple to accept that fact, but it will happen, and way more than 5% of gold will be chasing bitcoin.

1,000,000$ bitcoins before 2020

I am slowly transferring part of my savings to bitcoin. I will never go as far as Andreas Antonopoulous (he has 150% in bitcoin according to LA meetup youtube video).
I was thinking up to 10% for now, but could regret smaller allocation later on, I guess.
10218  Economy / Speculation / Re: Someone please explain the speculation about bitcoin (People say 2-10k by 2015) on: January 22, 2014, 04:57:21 PM
Re youtube video about a "vertical" phase. In my opinion we are already 10-11 mo into it (since Feb-march 2013), but it is far from over yet.
At 20K-50K per coin (~0.5-1trillion in marketcap=7-15% of gold) we will start transitioning into linear, but still growing phase with boring 10-20% a year.
10219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 22, 2014, 04:04:47 PM
I'll make more by just buying btc. who knows when these will ever be delivered? They're still designing them.

I intend to pursue the following strategy: buy BTC on dips for long term savings (got a bunch already) and use "mined" BTC for purchases and/or transfer back into fiat. This way, even if difficulty increases together with BTC price, i would be OK with smaller ## of BTC mined. IF difficulty increases, but BTC stagnates it would be a bummer, and if difficulty skyrockets and BTC plunges, then there will be a lot of unhappy people here.
10220  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: January 22, 2014, 03:47:39 PM
faetos..anotherhost is just co-location service, not a full service like KNc hosting. What if you need a new part? they are only open 8-5 like a bank. Perhaps this is not correct info, but that's what I got on their website. In addition, since they ask for 1BTC deposit and say that it is essentially first month, cost would be ~$800/mo in my calc since electricity is 27c/kw in sweden.
BTW, did you really refunded all your Neptune preorders. I have two, and was thinking doing the same for at least one.
