Any company selling digital product or service. of course, in ideal scenario, all ''big'' internet names like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Apple... should accept bitcoin but I'm doubtful that this will happen. Any way, as more and more online companies accepting bitcopin, we are more and more close to our long term goal. to become mainstream.

In 2 years: to be or not to be---to live intensively and richly, or merely to exist.
Very well said In Internet age 2 years are like 200 years before. So, if Bitcoin don't become mainstream in 2 years, globally accepted by average people and many merchants, i don't see future for bTC. Some other virtual currency will take the lead.

First you will need to give definition of average person. Who is average Joe? 40 or 50 years old, married, playing games on Internet and sending emails? For such average Joe I don't see any problem to understand the concept of BTC and start using it. I would rather say that average persons never heard about BTC or if they hear about it, they don't see the reasons to use it. In my opinion, this is the real issue with BTC.

yes, absolutely EVERYTHING needs to be decentralized
This is very idealistic thinking. It's not possibly really, not for all aspects of human life, like politics, public service, banking etc. Bitcoin is great example of decentralization but such model can't work in every area of human life.

Right now, 99.9% of the world population are unable to use the Bitcoin, because they are not tech savvy enough. Storage of Bitcoin is risky, and prone to robbery and hacks. So, until this problem is solved, BTC is not for everyone.
I agree with you that right now bitcoin is not for everyone but 99,9 %, how did you calculate this? I think that this number is much lower because right now only limitations in using bitcoin is Internet connection, basic English knowledge and information about BTC.

No. Bitcoin insurance will never come in to existence. It is too complex. Even if some one tries to come up with an insurance, the premium rates will be prohibitive.
I agree with this. Insurance is very complex staff and in most countries is regulated very strictly by the law and controlled by the government. As we know, bitcoin is not regulated by the government, or some central entity, so such scenario is not possible.

Yahoo's offered the BTC/USD conversion in their ticker system for almost a year...CNN's just catching up.
However, It's nice that the bitcoin ticker is on CNN Money Market's homepage! Just imagine when bitcoin is the 4th ticker on your favorite news channel after SP500, DIJA, Nasdaq, BTC Yes, really great news for bitcoin and us! It's really give us confidence that very soon bitcoin will be accepted by other big companies and merchants and become mainstream. Right now, people are loosing their faith in bitcoin and selling it in panic, for very low price. We have to change such trend and such news can help and increase confidence in btc again.

|
|
My guess is we will be in the $1k to $2k range in 2 years time
I really hope that you are right but now this is just our hope and speculation. We need more ''big'' merchants to accept bitcoin in next 2 years so that people can use their btc for buying more and more digital products, not mainly for investing, what is situation now. This will stabilize the value of bitcoin and increase confidence of its users.

This is great new, really! A lot people traveling now to very far destinations and searching the cheapest solutions for their flight tickets. This can help bitcoin to become more popular way of payment and mainstream for such digital product in high demand online.

Just one such event can't help much but if more such ''big'' companies accept bitcoin, we will surely see that value of BTC increasing. There are many factors which influence the value of btc but in my opinion the most important factor is emotion of people using btc. If bitcoin users loose trust in bitcoin and start selling bitcoin (in panic like before) instead of buying and investing in bitcoin, price will go down. We have to raise confidence in BTC again and such good news above can help.

It's about the time finally that media accept reality, that bitcoin is superior to any other ways to send funds abroad. I guess, they had to accept obvious fact that for the people in Africa, without bank accounts, bitcoin is really God's blessing. Hope to see more positive reports soon

To stop anything just spread negative news in media. If you include words like ''money laundering'', terrorism financial support or something like this, such things can really destroy reputation of anything. I hope nobody will connect bitcoin ever with such terms.

Well, this is very bold statement, but I don't agree. Greece can't be saved by bitcoin. They need to recover economy and find new jobs for their people. What is the point in changing currency if people don't work? If people can work and national economy become better, nobody will care much in what currency is their salary.

Bitcoin will be forever...... Lets hope that it will stay! Bitcoin will not be forever, it will die when the universe implodes within itself. LOL very original answer Seriously, it's impossible to predict future of bitcoin. For example, in the past hotmail email and msn search was the most popular on line and we was thinking that this will never change. Now, we see that gmail and google search are the most popular online. So, right now bitcoin is the most popular virtual currency but if someone start another virtual currency with better potential, people will naturally accept new ''great'' thing and forget bitcoin. Let's wait and see what happens.

Very good news, thank you for sharing. In my country- Croatia, just a few months ago we also got our first Bitcoin ATM. I hope many more countries will follow

Who cares about Warren Buffet? He made money with Berkshire only because he was lucky. I am sure that his IQ is much lower than that of an average investor. And we can expect similar statements from low IQ people.
You can say a lot things about Warren Buffet, you can hate him or love him but for the one of richest man on the earth you can't say that he is idiot with lower iQ or just lucky. He invested very wisely over very long period of time and a lot people now trying to learn from him and copy his method. He probably don't understand bitcoin much but this don't change the fact that in most cases he made good financial decision.

I'm sure a lot of people can afford 1btc at current price but the problem lies mainly on how to convince people to accept bitcoin. If we can break this barrier, we are already on the way to the moon.
Very well said. If average people don't accept bitcoin, we will not make breakthrough and become mainstream. It's not question if average people can afford to buy 1 btc but if they have good reasons to do this. Right now, I don't think that average Joe will consider buying btc as investment (because value of btc is very unstable right now) and also average Joe can't see what he can do with his btc, where to spend it.

Great idea for Greek but I don't see why this will be good idea either for us (bitcoin community) or Satoshi. Their huge debts and now conflict with EU is because of their economic and political elite and this is mostly political issue in eU now. Bitcoin should stay away of politics and support average man to become financial free.freed from ''big'' banks, government, politics etc.

What's the real value of bitcoin or altcoins? Is there anything we can't do it without bitcoin/altcoins?
Real value of anything is defined by users, in free market. If high demand, value is high. If demand is low, value is low. Bitcoin is not the most important thing in life and we all have life outside of bitcoin world. I hope this answer your second question

Thank you for sharing this news! For ''brighter'' future of bitcoin we need more such good news. Until this happen, average potential users will mostly see bitcoin as investment, not like ''real'' money. We really need a lot ''big'' merchants in order to finally become mainstream.
