1043  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where else can the price go (in the long term) but up? on: July 18, 2012, 01:22:46 AM

The future is unpredictable.
By definition.

I could get hit by a car tomorrow. These are the dangers we all face.

Its no reason to avoid bitcoin.

where were you two weeks ago?

I paid $160 UPS shipping fee for two of these shipped from USA.  Roll Eyes
1045  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Radeon 5870 am I being throttled? (GPU-z screenshot within) on: July 17, 2012, 10:25:08 PM
try disabling ULPS in registry or with Sapphire Trixx.

Also turn off PCI-E power saving feature in power management.
1046  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible to send BTC to an address that doesn't exist? on: July 17, 2012, 04:01:26 PM
A vanity address generator can be used to reverse-engineer the private key from the (public) address. Take the Bitcoin address you accidentally mistyped (which now owns your bitcoins) and put it into a vanity address generator. The generator will create and test private keys until it finds one that produces a public address matching the one you're looking for.

What if there is only a single error (or two) in the address (and I know which character(s)).

Can I vanitygen the key much faster?

I'm also interested in one of these.

Would need to know more about whomever will be providing these first.

Such as:

a) Shipping to international (& cost)
b) Availability of zero dead pixel unit. (I will pay extra)
c) Refresh rate overclock potential

etc.
1049  Other / Archival / Re: International Shipping. on: July 15, 2012, 03:08:32 AM
NEVER EVER AS A CANADIAN USE UPS....

Regardless of direction...

Just trust me..  I have never been raped so badly in my life...

Thier brokerage fees are on the order of criminal..

Not to mention the shipping back to sender after 3 attempts, and no means to tell them to keep the item for pickup after it has been sent..

+1000

Just got reminded why I should hate them so much (I had forgotten).

They slapped a 25% extortion fee on used PC parts shipped to me from USA.

Even the local UPS Store lady said the $60 'brokerage fee' was "a ripoff". There was tax on top of that.

1051  Economy / Economics / Re: Is now the time to buy? on: July 09, 2012, 04:30:01 AM
It is always a good time to buy. It may cost you more and some points in time than others but right now it is a coin collecting race. Who ever has the most coins once ALL the coins have been mined controls the power. I speculate the value of bitcoin will rise quickly and more steadily once all the coins are mined.

My 2 cents. Thoughts?

Once all the coins are mined, we'll all be dead.

Is that why bitcoin is called a killer app?
1052  Economy / Goods / Re: [FS] ◄ Tokina 12-24 f4 DX Canon-mount DSLR lens ► on: July 06, 2012, 02:14:08 PM
i honestly wouldnt pay over 50% for a used lens... but thats just me.

How many shots has it taken? What kind of weathering/terrain has it seen, how was it handled etc...

im stickin with 45 btc tbh.

Its in like new condition except for the one quirk I noted in the OP. It belonged to a relative of mine, he's an older gentleman, casual amateur shooter. I seriously doubt he took 1000 shots with it, certainly not in bad weather/terrain.

For a cheap used lens, I'd take a 50% cut. But this is not a cheap lens, its built very very well, and performs & handles as one would expect from a $600 lens.

Gonna pass this off to a friend of mine with a Canon DSLR to take some sample shots. I will also update the shots of the lens itself, as they're not good enough.

Received my shiny new 7970's from scifimike yesterday. Packed well, arrived quick & just as described. Thanks mike.

UPS gave us the shaft with an insane, over-the-top, 22% extortion fee.
Word of advice to everyone: DO NOT EVER ship via UPS to Canada internationally.

Better yet, do every decent human being a favor and don't use UPS [aka United Pirate Shipsters]  for anything ever again.

I've never had an issue with USPS, shipped many packages, never had to pay much, usually nothing.

Final payment sent to scifimike.

Youtube. Steve Gibson as a guest on Security Now #288.

Starting at 44:00, bitcoin was on topic.

I know, slashdot covered it months earlier, but I had stopped reading slashdot.  Embarrassed

I'd take it without the hard drives (not enough cap (+ shipping is cheaper)). This thing is heavy as is.

20 BTC shipped?  Smiley
