1041  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 29, 2014, 02:47:17 AM
I posted a couple of days ago about whether anyone has thoughts on changing the block reward. There were quite a few replies of which the majority agreed with me in some sense. I only recall 2 people being against it, one being smooth.

If I was in a minority I wouldn't have posted about it again.

I believe I said at the time, my question is for selfish reasons as it's benefits early holders. Clarification at to whether there's any flexibility in changing the coin reward allows me to better decide how to manage my investment.

do not change block reward. please review the thread before comming to you skewed conclusion. there is also an emission thread.

who is mining all the coins?

pools all together barely add to 600Kh/s ... who is mining all the coins?

i know http://extremehash.com/ one minute was showing 218 Khs then the next went to 28 KHs. it was too fast to think all the users moved out themselves. it seems like it was one user.

has anyone seen this effect? all the pools now are going for hrs, some even a day with out a single block.

IS there some private pools? is there a better optimized miner? is a pool with 50 workers can not find a block then there means some one has some massive hashrates

somethings fishy is happening

solo mining is still viable. perhapse majority of hash rate is still solo. i for one dedicate about 200 h/s solo and about 84 to pool.

i had assumed that is what the 1% tax was for

Whilst you're correct that the 1% donation should be used for things like building a pool, remember that it is only a donation.

ok?

Well it's not a tax, you seemed to be a little snarky about the 1%. It's not like you're forced to give it up.

Perhaps I interpreted your post in the wrong way. Smiley
yes you did. for me it is a tax as it is set to on automatically. the majority of miners will leave it on by default. also, the 1 percent only goes to one wallet and thus we cant chose our developers.

this has been hashed out, and currently i am mining this coin. I do not view this 1% donation as a negative at this point. i am sure this coin can always be hard forked if we became unhappy with current developers.

i can not predict the future.

Is it possible to solomine with cpuminer-multi ?? which port to use??

For that you have to use the wallet/daemon: Just type "start_mining NUMBER OF THREADS" into your wallet and he will start solo mining

think the reason he/she was asking is because cpu miner is slightly more efficient than simple miner. by 10 percent i believe.

I htink we need to have pool BEFORE hitting an exchange.
If we  hit an exchange, it will be very difficult, or impossible, for "normal miners" to find a bloc in solo.
There is no urge to be listed on an exchange, we can let the community grow before that, and to have proper tools to show to investors too, like pools, standalone mining software with stratum, user friendly (aka noob) wallet GUI etc..

I like the BBR / boolberry name.

this, pool is badly needed  Undecided

Pool bounty required.

true
dev should make use of his donations and open some bounties.

i had assumed that is what the 1% tax was for
1047  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 27, 2014, 06:28:13 PM

The darkcoin wallet was released faster than monero, by the devs (yes.. with monero is the community who will make a GUI, it's strange i think.. some questions, like why the community and not the devs?)

The unaccessibility of monero to public is like a non pre-ann.

[/quote]

first: the "devs" are the community. there is no paid dev for this coin. The developers of the techonology are the cryptonote group. This clearly outlines your ignorance.

second: re UN-accessibility as you put it. this is not true either. there are many people in this coin who have never been involved in crypto currencie. reviewing the thread would clarify this for you. I am one of them. The coin I feel is very accessible.

please. no more FUD. If you feel dark is better stay there and educate new commers to your coin. I doubt you will change anybodies mind regarding monero at this stage.

1048  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 27, 2014, 05:15:39 PM
Could the dev team here let us know what's needed to accelerate development of a user-friendly GUI wallet and easy exchange transfers - the absence of this is apparently hurting the coin.

It's technically superior to DRK and anyone else's anon tech - shame for something as minor as this to be holding it back.

disagree with this. lack of gui wallet has not held us back. on the contrary. it has clearly established itself as unique. lack of wallet is now part of its history. community comming together and created a bounty for the wallet is also part of what makes this coin great. people comming together and slowly building a community and culture.

this coin has not been held back at all. look at hash rate. look at postion on coin market cap. held back compared to what. grass roots build up is what will solidify this coin in the cryptocurrency market.

thanks

we need to make the name palatable to the largest economies of the world. this will facilitate acceptence. however if this is simply an experiement then frankly go back to honeypenny.

How about the good old German Elektrozaster [EZR] ?

Or just short: Zazta

What does Elektrozaster mean?

"Zaster" is coloquial for money, like "Electro dough" or "E-loot".

it's quite funny if you are a native german speaker - not often used word but kind of fresh

my favourites are zazta (even though it is close to monero) and rings

zasta sound like a type of pasta that is low in carb. can cure cancer and gives you wings.

Some additional features were added to my 0.8.8 branch:

- Merged in latest PR
- Temporary fix for block reward penalty being too large

https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero/tree/0.8.8update

The latter is important for pools or miners who have been having issues with low block subsidy due to block sizes being too large. This new update will allow for the slow increase of median block size until we have a proper fees calculation, which will take more time.

The codebase appears to be relatively stable, as me and several others have been using it without issue, but I would like more comments. Upgrade at your own risk. Please note if you're using this daemon for mining, you will reject all tx with less than the minimum fee (5 * 10^9 AMU).

If you're using zone117x's pool, you will need to adjust your fees in your config file:

Code:
"transferFee": 1000000,

to

Code:
"transferFee": 5000000000,

or else your payouts will not go through.

I don't know if this has been addressed but zone 11 download link in op does not work.
1053  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 26, 2014, 10:16:41 PM
Please keep the 1 minute blocks! Else Monero wont have a chance to compete with other coins for mainstream adoption. It's simply to slow for every day transactions. Any coin that shall be used in daily live has to beat the "Starbucks challenge", that is: Buy your coffee and settle the payment before you walk out the door. No merchant will accept a payment that requires him to wait minutes for settlement when credit cards or cash do that in seconds. If you argue that 1 minute blocks result in too many orphanes and are thus unfavorable for miners, I ask you to rethink your priorities when it's most crucial to design a friendly experience for the users instead of the miners that will stay regardless.

On the issue of emission schedule, Im also in favor of a flatter curve. 87% in 4 years is not much time. Most likely thats when cryptos really catch on. We should think middle- long term instead of short term gains if we want this one to succeed and also provide a reliable Bitcoin-like source of revenue. I'd be happy to halve emission per block while keeping block times intact for the greater good.

in real world....
1 minute is no different than two minutes. anything longer than 10 seconds seems like a long time and the average person will not be able to differentiate the difference.

as it is, people complain about finding a block every 2 days, then every 3 days then impossibly long at 5 days. no matter what, as long as people do not get instant gratification they will complain. thus 1 minute is no different from 2 minutes. but for technical purposes, mining and efficiency decreasing wasted energy (via work on orphans), 2 minutes is much better.

I have a question regarding the possibility of alias squatting:

Would it be possible to run a script that systematically registers all possible combinations of letters and numbers to reserve those just like URLs, etc? If so, I would strongly advise to add some cost for reserving an alias to counter this behaviour.

Maybe I didnt understnad yet how the alias system works. Pls educate me! Grin
Aliases can only be registered when you find blocks. You can only register one per block. Once it becomes very hard to find blocks, I think it should be possible to register one for a fee, but that is not implemented now.

Its already hard for the common user to find a block. I find the alias feature a much needed innovation in the crypto space, especially with cryptonote's insanely long addresses. To make aliases an attainable and affordable feature for everyone, I'd like to petition the introduction of aliases-for-a-fee in the comming updates!

5 days to get a block is not insanely hard. in a world where people pace infront of the microwave, we need to exercise patience. think about what is being developed and look to the long term not the short term gains. if short term gains are what interest you most please
1. develop your own gpu
2. invest on exchanges
3. adopt / change your mentality.

crypto zoid.

at one point you suspected that a gpu was privately developed to mine bbr. do you feel it is still the case.

if the above is true, do you feel that now that bbr is mature (more than at the beggining) and requiring more scratch pad ( do not know if this is correct term) that cpu is regaining ground on effeciency compared to gpu and in the long run be as profitabile or more than gpu.

thanks.

assistant,

wht is the difference between lucas miner vs zone 11 miner
I have treid the lucas miner and it automatically opens maximum amount of threads with out me having to input it.
in one of your minderd instructions you have -t where i assume we put the number of threads desired.

do you have the links to both minerds. thanks for your reponse in advanc

for pool mining. what miner is deemed for efficient.
i am familiar with the simpler miner only but is the cpu miner multi better for pool mining and is this the same as minerd.
what is lucas miner thanks
thank you for this. is cpu miner more efficient than simple miner

You can try Lucas Jone's cpuminer v1.0.3 at https://github.com/LucasJones/cpuminer-multi/releases

Then connect to a stratum mining pool like so:

Code:
minerd -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://mro.extremehash.com:9999 -u address -p x

thank you
- the link to zone 115 in op does not work
- can lucas cpuminer be included in download link.

also can we get a description of each miner.  assistant has a -how to mine thread- perhapse a walk through using each miner is in order

please correct  my assumption. from the initial discussion regarding mixing. it is not necessary to have a mixing level above zero as monero and all CN coins have a baseline mixing already. this is seen when you send any transaction and will see multiple ammounts sent. by default there is already a mix of 10 at minimum. please correct if wrong

thanks

MoneroPool.org now uses the stratum protocol on port 7777.  All ports except port 5555 will be switched to the stratum protocol in 24 hours.

To connect, use this
Code:
minerd -a cryptonight -o stratum+tcp://mine.moneropool.org:7777 -u address -p x

More instructions here

Simpleminer is not compatible with the stratum protocol, so please switch to cpuminer if you can.

10% mining bonus for the next 20 blocks!

Thanks, perhaps I need to compile a new cpu multi miner from somewhere else? Compiled it just yesterday.
HTTP request failed: Protocol stratum+tcp not supported or disabled in libcurl
You have to compile it again, yesterday is too old.  Smiley

You are right haha, thanks!

For an i7-2600 on Linux 64bit, any special flags I should do?
For some reason, last version gave 24H per thread, now seems to be doing 19H.

With simpleminer i get only 20H with all 8 threads, same CPU, but at 4800Mhz. Using Windows 7 64bit. Is Linux better, or should i try another pool or .exe?

Guy what miner and pool do you use, i get only 25-45H/s with 14 Threads ^^

How can you get 200-400H or moar?

try to download the 64 bit binaries in first post. on my i7 960 bloomfield i get about 85 on all 8. on six cores i get 77,.
