1041  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Letter of concern to the board of BitTalk Media Inc. (MNW 80K Fraud) on: September 10, 2012, 05:40:47 AM
Yeah if Matt's contract as either an owner or employee has a morality clause the company may have grounds to sue but that would be for any damages incurred by the magazine (canceled ads, lost subscriptions, PR costs to undo the bad press, etc) not the amount Matt didn't pay.  More commonly it would be used as leverage to divest him of ownership (we are suing you but we can settle out of court if you agree to sell your stake).

Exactly this.

Those damages would be a separate issue from the 79,000 BTC Matt didn't pay so like I said the sentence is confusing and honestly doesn't really make any sense.

Verily.

I think he wants them to sue Matthew.

Which is also kind of silly.

Actually it would be very common.  Employees (especially high level employees) are sued by their employers all the time when their actions and words cause damage to the company (reputation, lost sales, canceled ad revenue, etc).  There is nothing to indicate BitTalk is looking to sue Matt but if they did it wouldn't be over "lost BTC" it would be over damages to the company.

You're both right.

Still the OP seems to be combining that with the bet itself and throwing in a bunch of nonsense legal words so it is hard to tell what he is trying to say.

Yeah, sorry about that. Your interpretation is isomorphic to my intent. Your criticism well warranted. Smiley

In a nutshell: When a member of an organization abuses a position of authority granted by the organization to enable fraud, he should:
(1) be fired,
(2) be relieved of any stake or equity he might hold,
(3) be sued, if necessary to achieve (1) and (2).

And that's all I have time for. Sorry for confusing you all. Your criticism is spot on.

(Aside from Loup Garoux, his hate cannon is pointed in the wrong direction and firing blanks today.)

Doesn't matter; Matt got fired.

1043  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: September 09, 2012, 08:09:05 PM
One important point to consider is what happened at the moment when MNW started to take new bets over the initial 10kBTC.
If I remember correctly that happened AFTER pirate first quite clearly announced he is having trouble paying.

I believe MNW was running an honest bet for 10kBTC until that moment and when it become clear that he cannot win the bet fair and square, he went insane and thought about this silly scam and started taking bets in excess of the 10k as a joke to himself knowing he would not be honouring the bet.

The important thing to consider is that I believe if pirate would not have announced his troubles and if pirate would have paid out, the bet would have remained capped to the original 10kBTC and MNW would have got 10k of real BTCs and he would had been harrassing everyone entered the bet to pay up real BTCs to MNW.

The real nature of the bet was really either 10kBTC for MNW if he wins or nothing to others if they win.

My thoughts exactly.

I will make a statement regarding this matter on behalf of Bitcoin Magazine and it's publisher Bittalk Media Ltd.

However, please do allow me some time to consult all the affected stakeholders. It might take a few days.

Public draft of a letter of concern to the board of BitTalk Media Inc.:

Code:

Dear Vladimir,

By this time you are undoubtably aware of the damage caused
to BitTalk Media Ltd, and Bitcoin Magazine in particular, stemming from
the recent public actions of chief editor Matthew N. Wright, and the liability represented thereby.

I hereby request that the board of BitTalk Media Ltd. immediately remove Matthew N. Wright from any position he might have
with BitTalk Media Ltd, Bitcoin Magazine, and affiliated organizations, and that this action is made public as soon as possible.

This in the interest of minimizing the loss of business, advertising revenue and irrecoverable damage to the image of the
business, that will otherwise be incurred from any lack of timely, appropriate action on part of the board of BitTalk Media.

Best regards,
-elux,

What a fucking clown. Good job dicking over pirate debt holders even more by allowing them to "hedge" with a fraudulent bet you never intended to pay. Good job on teaching those guys a lesson  Roll Eyes

Oh come now. Theymos allows ponzi schemes on the forum, then gets miffed when people don't read the bet their agreeing to in my thread? The double standard is twice as hilarious as the "scammer" tag. I'll wear it with pride. Remember, remember, the 9th of September. (And to everyone who dared to say that people were "stupid" and "ruining bitcoin" by investing into Pirate, you may now eat your socks for complaining about losing this bet)

Now, I don't anger easily, but Matthew, you're the sole loser here,
you have lost a bet you made according to your own terms, and you have proceeded to handle the loss in a most dishonorable way.

I, and many with me bet no more than we could afford to lose.
There is no doubt you would be paid by many, if not everyone, in the event that things had gone the other way.

This loss has cost you what little reputation you had, it will cost you your job, it will cost you your career, and it will cost you the magazine.
Vladimir, please take the appropriate steps to have Matthew fired effective immediately. May his name live in infamy.

Thanks for the warm welcomes! Especially 556j!
Let me take some time to address your questions one at a time:

1) I won’t discuss issues of salary other than to say you have your figures wrong and I'm a US citizen so no green card necessary.

2) You don’t seem to know what that word “literally” nor “slave” means. When used correctly "slave" means a person entirely under the domination of some influence or person" For example, "He was a slave to his own insecurities." According to its dictionary definition, "literally" means "exactly, virtually, without exaggeration or inaccuracy" For example, "556j's dick was literally the size of a peanut."

3) I was hired because I was exactly the type of person BitInstant wanted for the role. I have experience both in tech startups, finance, customer service and foreign translation. I also have a sense of humor and a thick skin when it comes from getting flack from haters. And, while my gender wasn't a factor in the hiring process, I happen to have awesome tits.

4) On the Pirate situation: Obvious scam is obvious. New technology should make people's lives easier but people still need to use their brains and common sense.

5) On CoinBase: I’m not aware of their long-term business strategy, but it’s almost certainly better than pirate’s.

6) I think I know what I got involved with. It’s basically PayPal for non-statists, right?

Also, if you’re rude again, don’t expect an answer. Let's keep it classy.

Well, congratulations to Rachel for getting the job, and to Bitinstant for hiring exactly the right person.

I actually asked Maged at one point to post it, because obviously, if there's something that can prove something besides hunches and coincidences, it should be brought to light.  He basically replied back about how he didn't have anything definite or something along those lines (my memory fails me, I'm looking for the thread/post).

I also have yet to get a response from him after asking about his 'proof' as well. As soon as I brought it up and suggested that evidence would change my stance, there were no more replies.

you see the 100k BTC xfer he just made? that's likely heading to Gox, which he will then fuck the market a little by dumping it, getting yet another ~ $1M USD for his scam.

I wouldn't assume that these 100K are headed for liquidation at Gox,
(unless Pirateat40 controls 100 or so Gox accounts, which is unlikely)
since this is now stolen money, and since that would be a bit transparent.

Placing 1M USD of stolen money on an exchange right now would be massive stupid risk.
More likely headed for cold storage (a rock under a tree in a hayfield) or something.
