(...), i think that CL qualification is more important for them than Pokal trophy, maybe am wrong

For the club CL qualification is definitely more important imo, since it brings more money. For the players the DFB-Pokal is more important I think. Unless you play at Munich, it's not easy to win a title in Germany. And if you play for Leverkusen it is next to impossible Grin In their long tradition in Bundesliga and with often very good teams, they just managed one title overall - the DFB Pokal in 1992. Internationally their only title was winning the UEFA-Cup in 1988. They came close to winning more (CL, Bundesliga), but always failed in the end.

The DFB Pokal Final is always a huge event, but this year not of course in terms of atmosphere etc.. But winning this title is something you have forever and no one can take it away from you. No one will remember one year from now, who participated in the group stages in CL 2020/2021, but being victorious in DFB Pokal against (most likely) Bayern, people will remember and the players will be proud of it forever.

Playing in CL next year will also be more attractive to a) sign new players and b) keep players happy that are under contract. The EL is not very interesting for the top players.

Thanks for all the praise my way for keeping a simple spreadsheet up to date. It's not that much work in the end, once the sheet is set up properly Cheesy efialtis has 90% of all work and we can be happy to have such a good networker as our host, who is always able get us some extra prizes.

-

Congrats to SteamTyme, FOMA777 and 1r0n1c. After Iv4n was doing so well in the early stages, he was my favourite to win. There are certain people in this series, who are very good frontrunners and everyone is doomed once they sit on a heap of chips, but not this time. Iv4n is the only player to qualify for both Grand Finals btw.

CCwatcher420 has been one of the most consistent players throughout both series and is one of the last seven standing to play every tournament, but still never got a penny back in prize money. Other regular players, that never got something in return are jayce and cygan; webtricks never cashed in the regular tournaments, but got 3rd place in small final in Series 1.
1065  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: House Edge -- Is It Really Required? on: June 08, 2020, 10:45:45 AM
Martingale seems really a fascinating topic for a lot of gamblers Smiley But don't worry @deisik, I like your approach and thinking out of the box, although you know my opinion about something that might work to a certain extent in reality (with small gains, if you play it safe), but not in theory.

As I see it, the house edge would make for more revenue flow, but it will still be making profits with a zero house edge simply because it will be able to stay in the game longer than any other player. Put differently, the sheer size of its bankroll will be the house edge on its own.

Imagine all those players putting all their funds in one pot and going all-in a few times - and getting lucky. Then this "syndicate" would suddenly have the house edge over the casino.

-

In general, this is of course a zero sum game, which is maybe good for money laundering, but else then that ? Your theory of a "bankroll house edge" makes sense, as far as I see it, but only, if you make Martingale mandatory for all players and no syndicates allowed. But all in all this is so far from reality, that it's hard to wrap your head around it (at least for me Cheesy ).

Good luck to all participants later today, I'll be lurking. @morvillz7z Where are your odds for series #2 Grand Final ? Cheesy

Thanks to @efialtis for organizing these tournaments/prizes and also making a third series happen. I know how much headache it was and is for you, but will hopefully get better with some changes for the upcoming series Smiley

You are doing pretty well compared to me guys - I got a whopping 1/9 correct Grin And I wasn't doing any better with my real bets yesterday, football just sucks and always did Tongue Just for statistical reasons, I should get A LOT of the remaining bets right, so you should go at least 5/6 with betting on these for real (this is no financial advice):

FC Augsburg - 1. FC Cologne DRAW
Rio Ave - FC Pacos Ferreira
Seongnam - Daegu FC DRAW
Union Berlin - FC Schalke 04 - DRAW
Stuttgart - VfL 1899 Osnabruck
Werder Bremen - Wolfsburg

Was probably the deserved punishment for using the pink colour Cool
1070  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Poker Series format discussion - Let's keep them all in one place. on: June 07, 2020, 10:08:50 AM
I have been trying to think of neat ideas that could really be more luck based than skill based to encourage participation, without increasing buy-ins. What if we created a "High Hand" or something similar for each tournament as a side prize say 175 goes to the Championship pool and 25 goes to each tournaments "High Hand" pool. It takes a bit away from the top performers in the end but the more participants we draw in the larger the prizepools will be.

I have thought about such ideas as well. Mainly about incentives to keep the weaker and/or out-of-contention players interested and probably get new (regular) players. The best idea I could come up with, was some kind of lottery for players ranked outside of Top9 after 8 tournaments. Each player who has participated in at least 6/8 tournaments is eligible and will get "tickets" to the lottery based on his number of participations and the points he accumulated:

10 tickets per participation and one ticket per point:

I would get 60+24 = 84 tickets (ticket numbers 1-84)
SyGambler 60+23 = 83 tickets (ticket numbers 85-167)
Trofo 80+19 = 99 tickets (ticket numbers 168-......
cygan wouldn't be eligible, because only 5/8 played
jayce 60+1 = 61 tickets
etc.

Then you would have XXX tickets and the most trusted user, which is probably Hhampuz, would pick the winners with some random number generator. Each user can only have one winning ticket and you have like 3 prizes.

If you put 100 chips aside from each player for every tournament in series #2, you would have had a 14500 chips prize pool for this lottery.

The problem is........it creates additional hassle with collecting these funds, so probably not an option.

Btw, Leverkusen to win @13/2 odds and beyond, what the shit?? ppl think they just got promoted or what?

Havertz will miss todays game with muscular problems. He is the heart and soul of Leverkusen, so will be missed badly. I was fancying some bet on Leverkusen, but with these news I don't like my chances with that one.

So most of us got Jeonbuk right, yeehaw, (...)

And now it looks like Pohang is laying an egg at home - 0-2 down at halftime Roll Eyes While some of us have the draw, I see no one being brave enough to take the away win. So the catching up has begun already, because there is always someone who gets it right Grin
1073  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [AMA] The Life of a Professional Gambler on: June 05, 2020, 11:50:39 AM
A little bump, if anyone of you has any more questions Smiley

The last months of "unemployment" slowly but surely come to an end as more and more sports resume - though it's not the sports I usually bet on and/or make money with. The little addict in me showed up and so I couldn't resist to have some (more) bets in german football, where I was able to make little profits in the beginning, but the last two rounds were red, resulting in an overall loss after the break.

German Basketball will resume tomorrow with some strange tournament structure and a few teams even chose to not participate. The teams had to get their players back (mainly from the US) and a team like Vechta has only a very small roster now. There will be lots of surprises I think, but I didn't do enough research yet.

Then I am eagerly waiting for chinese Basketball to resume. It was initially to return in April already, but was always postponed further. And last but not least, I am looking forward to cycling, which will have a packed schedule in late summer/autumn:

8 August: Milano-Sanremo (Italy)
12-16 August: Critérium du Dauphiné (France)
29 August -20 September : Tour de France (France)
7-14 September: Tirreno-Adriatico (Italy)
30 September: La Flèche Wallonne (Belgium)
3-25 October: Giro d'Italia (Italy)
4 October: Liège-Bastogne-Liège (Belgium)
10 October: Amstel Gold Race (the Netherlands)
18 October: Tour des Flandres (Belgium)
20 October - 8 November: Vuelta Ciclista a España (Spain)
25 October: Paris-Roubaix (France)
31 October: Il Lombardia (Italy)
Source: https://www.uci.org/road/news/2020/the-uci-unveils-the-revised-2020-calendars-for-the-uci-worldtour-and-uci-women-s-worldtour

These are just the biggest races, there are many more smaller ones and I will have my hands full following them all Cheesy All these races in a short period of time will change the dynamics dramatically. Doing the Giro&Tour double on a high level, is normally already not doable and now you have 3 GTs in three months, this will create mayhem. And the GTs will be short of a lot of very good riders, because they will choose to ride the one day Classics/Monuments instead.
1074  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Discussion & Betting] Eurovision Song Contest 2020 - CANCELLED on: June 05, 2020, 11:11:29 AM
I see that Denmark, Lithuania and Iceland are in the top five positions in the rankings. I wonder how much the live performances influenced the votes of the jury and the audience? Wink

It surely did to some extent, but I didn't follow the show. If we assume live performance did have a positive effect on the votings, then the result from Russia is quite impressive and reflects the general sentiment which we had in the betting markets, where Russia was among the top favourites. Then again, Bulgaria was top favo from the latests odds and they did quite poor in user and jury voting, so would have maybe been a good bet to oppose them. Malta got very good jury votes (because she is a very good singer), but wasn't liked by the users and for Denmark it was vice versa. This is just for Germany and not very representative for all those countries being able to vote, but still interesting.

As expected, Rotterdam will also be the host for the ESC 2021. 26 countries have confirmed their participation on top of the pre-qualified. The majority will also send the same artists as they initially planned/selected for this year. Still a long way to go, but I will open a thread for the 2021 edition later this year.
1075  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io Betting discussion thread rev on: June 05, 2020, 09:53:56 AM
Need to try some new colour here, sorry if it hurts your eyes Grin

Leverkusen - FC Bayern Munich
Boavista FC - Moreirense FC DRAW
Dortmund - Hertha BSC
DSC Arminia Bielefeld - Nuremberg
Eintracht Frankfurt - 1. FSV Mainz 05
FC Augsburg - 1. FC Cologne DRAW
Fortuna Dusseldorf - Hoffenheim
Pohang - Ulsan Hyundai FC
Rio Ave - FC Pacos Ferreira
Seongnam - Daegu FC DRAW
Seoul - Jeonbuk
Union Berlin - FC Schalke 04 - DRAW
Stuttgart - VfL 1899 Osnabruck
Wehen - SG Dynamo Dresden
Werder Bremen - Wolfsburg

Went with Leverkusen & Hertha, I think one of them will manage a rather huge upset Cool No idea about the PT matches, even mighty Porto struggled after the break.

There is also additional quirk of the leaderboard, it will not show your name unless you have at least one wrong outcome. It happened to me when I had all correct scores on the first day. I guess the reasoning is that if you have all correct scores you are not interested in the leaderboard since you are fighting for top prize.

I think this is more a software issue for them. As long as you haven't lost a pick, your bet is still active and they seem to take the data for leaderboard only from settled bets, but not sure. As much as I like Sportsbet and their presence here in this forum, the website is still a bit meh in a lot of regards. The latest update was already an improvement, but the user experience is not very convenient. And I am not talking about the poker client, which is probably the worst I have ever seen Tongue
1076  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: June 04, 2020, 01:07:34 PM
ML @1.80 right now. Not bad considering that Freiburg haven't won a single game since football action returned, (...)

Hehe, yes, but Freiburg not winning tomorrow doesn't necessarily mean that Gladbach wins, because you still have that nasty draw Tongue Freiburg lost to top teams Leverkusen and drew @Leipzig, which is ok, drew at @Frankfurt after leading 3-1, which is ok result too. That 0-1 loss at home to Bremen was poor though. But you can see, that Freiburg is very competitive and the pure results are probably a bit misleading.

Freiburg is 6-2-6 at home, so they lose 43% of their home games. Gladbach is 7-3-4 away, so they win 50% of their matches when travelling. H2H favours Freiburg. This is just stats though and with a gun to my head, I would take Gladbach too. Even without a gun to my head, I would pick them, but I want some better odds for them and I think I can get them inplay. The pressure is with Gladbach, because this is a super huge game for them. Freiburg is sitting comfortably in the middle of the pack knocking at the EL places, but they will be happy with just not relegating - like they always are. Gladbach is lacking some killer mentality for me and it wouldn't surprise me to see them fold under this pressure Wink
1077  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: June 04, 2020, 10:17:21 AM
Freiburg has won the last 13 Games since 2003 against Gladbach at home.

Hmm, they certainly have an impressive record against Gladbach at home, but they didn't win 13 in a row:

Source: https://www.flashscore.com/match/ptj7KOdH/#h2h;home

This is a pretty big game for Gladbach. Leverkusen is not very likely to win against Bayern - though they won their last 2 games against them - and with a win at Freiburg, Gladbach could distance Leverkusen with 4 games left. Gladbach themselves is playing Bayern in the next round then, where they most likely won't get any points. So, if they fail to win at Freiburg, it's not looking good for them regarding CL qualification.

Odds for Gladbach are too low all things considered imo, but will wait for inplay. The odds for Leverkusen to get at least 1 point against Bayern look tasty though.

i'm sure the pendulum will swing back to some degree, but the trump-biden reversal is an incredible sight to watch.

Yep, it's amazing and I am not sure, what is the main driving factor here in the last days, because I have a hard time imagining it's "just" the protests/riots. Those riots and looting I would even have thought to play into the hands of Trump tbh.
I think it's the fact, that Biden came out of his cave and is more present in the media now - showing up healthy and with some fighting spirit, after having been invisible for ages. But odds of 1.97 look a bit short to me (overreaction) Tongue

unfortunately for the cuomo bet, momentum seems to be coalescing around biden.

This was a bit expected unfortunately. He is trading at above 200 now, indicating a probability of less then 0.5%, which I find a tad too low then again. I cut my losses a bit with laying him at 85, but will maybe jump in again at 250-ish (to make this a complete disaster Grin ).

She's still is a GOAT in my opinion, she outlived here contemporaries, Hingis, Clijsters, Davenport, Henin. Some name that I can think of right now.  Smiley

Yes, as of now, she probably is. But I wrote "GOAT forever" and if she was as fit as the players I mentioned, I think no one would ever come close to what she would have achieved. Just like if Steffi Graf had a backhand Grin

But these GOAT discussions are always a bit meh, because the game changes so fast. Put any of the Top10 WTA from 2020 in the Steffi Graf era and they would win every tournament basically imo. These players now have way better equipment, the game is faster, the players are insanely fit, spend hours in the gym, look after their diet etc. Then again put Steffi Graf in Margaret Court era and she herself would win everything there.
