1061  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next difficulty ~149,541,435 ? on: October 30, 2013, 11:51:43 PM
That's crazy.

Buying new mining hardware right now certainly looks like a fools game.

Yes. The choices are:

  • You buy mining equipment and nobody else buys mining equipment (difficulty stops increasing, you win)
  • You buy mining equipment and many others also buy mining equipment (difficulty goes up, you lose -ROI)
  • You don't buy mining equipment and nobody else buys mining equipment (no income from mining, you lose 0 ROI)
  • You don't buy mining equipment and many others buy mining equipment (no income from mining, you lose 0 ROI)

Sound familiar? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner%27s_dilemma

While it's theoretically possible to win (option 1), if all players act in (what they think is) their own interest and buy mining equipment, the more likely outcome and what we are seeing now is everyone loses (option 2). Thus, the best option is not to play = 0 ROI.

Assuming one believes that BTC will go up in value, I think the best option at this point is to buy BTC directly.

In my opinion, the small potential returns for buying mining hardware right now aren't a good move when adjusted for risk.

i was telling ppl to do that and not  to buy miners, cuz many ppl are preordered miners and they have yet to come
1062  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I'm About to Quit Mining on: October 30, 2013, 11:49:48 PM
I've decided that I simply can't continue to mine and make money.

Simply put, over the past year I've found my costs & risks (especially for hardware) constantly increasing, while my profits have been dwindling.

Originally with GPU I wasn't earning much, but I didn't have to invest, and it was really low-risk low-stress. Then, I bought my first ASICs, but it took forever to ship. Then when it shipped it hashed well for like 2 days (Believe it or not I "accidentally" solo-mined a block). But after that, even when I joined a pool, it wasn't working very well. I suspect I just got very lucky. Long story short I had to re-sell my miner and immediately bought a newer one. This time, I was on the first wave, but it was even worse. I only broke even because I re-sold my miner, today.

I'd rather not disclose the company who made my miners, because I hold no ill will toward them and don't wish to spread bad publicity, but I'm wondering if anybody could either agree with me that its probably best to just quit while I'm ahead, because I'm really lucky to even broke even on this last one and could have lost a ton, or if its best to go right ahead and buy a terraminer IV. If I did the latter, I'd be investing an amount more than equal to my total miner profits ever (given BTC price at time of mining) in a SINGLE machine. Now, its not quite as bad as that, as the majority of coins I got at really low prices, but I'm starting to think its best to just cut and run, or invest in BTC by just purchasing more, rather than buying increasingly expensive equipment.

Dont buy anything or any other miner difficulty is crazy. Invest your money into BTC when on low price and it is a sure profit

Hey! We need to get our spot here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cryptocurrencies
and then a link to a page only about CGB!

Okay, I'll look into it.  Do you know who the main author is?
No I don't. Where would I even get this kind of information?
So maybe when someone searched for cryptocurrencies, they get to that page and then see CGB.. Smiley

1067  Other / Off-topic / Re: What video games do you play? on: October 30, 2013, 11:41:51 PM
WOW ofcourse!

I have never even played it. I have played runescape and I loved it. I'm assuming it's the same and it's aged so it's probably too many jerks on it now.

Not too many jerks. Thats the guarantee when you have to pay for the game plus monthly signature. (I played for a few weeks)

played it for 1.5 year and then i wanted to get back in real life Cheesy

1074  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Way to heat my bedroom? on: October 30, 2013, 07:06:55 PM
of course mining for heat isn't going to be an efficient way of heating, but maybe you could make a sound proofish box for the GPU miner?

than air can not circulate and gpus become hotter and hotter

1078  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What altcoins do u hold? on: October 30, 2013, 06:49:43 PM
I like to do litecoin/bitcoin trading.
now is the good time to invest in LTC
+1
the rest of alt shit are most gona die in next 3 months

I trade litecoin because it is one of the only altcoin that resist. There is no risk of it to go down to zero in no time.
I just avoid to buy it when it go up, a high price of litecoin is always artificial.

Me too trading LTC
