I'm surprised how rapidly trading has gone flat for it, and the price it's maintaining. I presume it's mainly going to straight to whales now for their next pump. I got rid of one at 0.23. The rest can wait for a higher price.
10762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you guys withdraw your bitcoins to cash? on: August 26, 2017, 02:38:55 PM
I've hardly ever withdrawn to cash, but the few times I have it was with a Bitpay or Xapo debit card. There may be a small hit on the exchange rate but there aren't any proper exchanges where I'm at either and I can't be bothered to dick around with localbitcoins.

Xapo have just withdrawn coverage for people outside Europe, but the Bitpay card is sent to over 100 countries and you can withdraw via any ATM albeit with a foreign exchange rate fee. Shame they turned into forkers.
10763  Economy / Speculation / Re: Legendary Bitcoin Trader “masterluc” Predicts $15,000 Bitcoin This Year on: August 26, 2017, 10:04:18 AM
I'm starting to get worried by all the over-optimism by people on bitcointalk. They seem to think that bitcoin is some sort of magical token that will regularly double or triple in price, and missing the point of having bitcoin in the first place by storing all their wealth on an exchange and knowing nothing about how it works.

It depends on when you arrived. Anyone who sat through 2014/15 knows perfectly well that isn't the case.

Perhaps newcomers will be spoiled rotten. Perhaps they'll be schooled. If I was arriving right now I'd certainly be cautious.
10764  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 26, 2017, 09:58:52 AM
If I was a Bitcoin 'player' I think I'd retire and develop my model train set instead.

Everyone's so unbelievably emotional and hyper twitchy that if you move your Johnson one inch too far to the left it's interpreted by others as categorical evidence of your being purchased by Bilderberg.
10765  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Not Declaring Bitcoin Income on: August 25, 2017, 08:23:21 PM
It depends on whether you bank it. I'm in the UK. Any unusual amounts will be reported and on top of that if they discover you're using your bank account to buy and sell they'll shut it down.

If you were all cash then I can't imagine anyone's ever going to find out. Not a great deal you can do with cash these days though.
10766  Economy / Speculation / Re: predictions of the price of a Bitcoin by the end of 2017 on: August 25, 2017, 05:37:51 PM
I think my prediction last year or the year before was $263.56 by now.

I'm now upping it to $263.58 by the end of the year. I'm very confident it'll be at least that price.

Other than that let's see whether we carry on forking into oblivion. I'm pretty sure there will be no 2X and that'll be settled long before November so perhaps the skies will be relatively clear.
10767  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 25, 2017, 05:34:33 PM
Want to send $20? Too bad, you will receive $4, it's only fair to pay the Blockstream Corporation for their Bitcoin invention.

Actually you're paying a nice Chinese man to finance his attacks on Bitcoin.

This is an awesome title and something that has never, ever occurred to me before. Like, ever ever ever.

You should get a job writing those 'personal trainers HATE him' type links.

Bitfinex's CSO can't actually tell you who owns or actually runs Bitfinex. Or won't.

I wonder what its endgame will eventually be and what the fallout will consist of.
10770  Other / Off-topic / Re: Have you been promoted this year? on: August 24, 2017, 07:22:08 PM
As I haven't worked for anyone other than myself in over 20 years, when I could be arsed to work, I promote myself every single day.

Right now I am Major General Field Marshal Sir Supreme Galactic Spudulor of the Magellan Cloud.

And I'm climbing to the very top of the ladder tomorrow when I can think up a title.
10771  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [SELL] Original Times Newspaper from 3 January 2009 - quoted in genesis block on: August 24, 2017, 05:23:17 PM
I can see another unearthed one attracting some ridiculous kite flying price wise. I can also see someone coughing up for it. They ain't making any more and BTC is getting more significant every day.
10772  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Very high transaction fee on: August 24, 2017, 01:31:28 PM
Thanks for all the advice. I don't need access to the BTC - my motivation was to move it to a new wallet as Multibit Classic is no longer supported. Now that I've managed to import the private key into Electrum, I'm happy.

I intend to keep this BTC for as long as possible as I think Bitcoin will carry on increasing and if it goes up a couple more orders of magnitude it could make a big difference to my life.

Also, the guide I'd read about how to claim my BCH said I ought to move BTC to a different wallet first just to make sure - any advice there?

Who knows where on chain fees are going to end up in the future? I'd definitely keep my eyes open for slack periods and consolidate all of those inputs into one if the cost falls enough. The heat is on fee wise at present because of BCH and probable spamming, but it'll slacken off soon. Just a few weeks ago you probably could've sent that through for 1/10th of the cost or less.

I had a balance with something like 30 inputs. I waited until things were quiet and sent them all to one address. I think the fee was about $25 but I didn't want it marooned there in some super expensive future.
10773  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: starting small crypto fund for close friends/coworkers etc on: August 24, 2017, 01:24:04 PM
There is no conundrum. Do not do it.

Most people like the sound of it. They definitely don't have the balls to remain underwater and they'll almost certainly be lying when they assure you they don't care if they lose the money.

If it goes down it's your fault. If some third party like an exchange gets hacked and their money is lost it's your fault. If you move out of a coin that subsequently explodes it's your fault. Everything will be your fault.

People are so fucked up when it comes to money that getting involved with someone else's money is a guaranteed path to toxicity.

Even if you don't take their money and they follow your advice you'll still get blamed. You have absolutely nothing to gain by doing this and plenty to lose.

A lie? wow..

Nope I just didn't notice the date- my bad

This explanation is unacceptable. You will be isolated, contained and subsequently liquidated. Please wait by your front door with your pyjamas.
10775  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dump the news? on: August 24, 2017, 10:22:48 AM
It did rise a fuck ton last weeks. Now segwit is in. What are they fueling the hypetrain with next? Time for a correction?

The actual cool stuff that Segwit is reputed to deliver?
10776  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 24, 2017, 10:18:56 AM
So will Segwit's birth expose all the covert ASIC boosters out there or not?
10777  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 24, 2017, 01:21:47 AM
Over $400,000 on Poloniex? Have you suffered a brain injury recently?
10778  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 24, 2017, 01:06:11 AM
This is awkward.

Segway.

Did I miss any free coins between Clams and BCH? I know I missed some Byteballs. Anything else?

Bitcore. Another bitcoin fork. Distribution is based on a snapshot taken in April I think.
10779  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Auction: 2014 Casascius St. Petersburg Coin on: August 24, 2017, 12:20:34 AM
I could be mistaken, but I believe there was an ongoing thread about how the original capsule actually degrades the rim of the coin's finish over time, but I could not find it... MJ?  Huh

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2089294.0

There you go. It looks like the capsule has degraded every single coin in that thread including mine. Wish I'd known before.

Ok nice 1 thanks

Actually, it looks like I was talking out my arse. You can send SEPA via Fidor, you can't receive it seemingly.

Fine for buying. Not much cop for selling.
