Maybe someone could answer this one for me. Is Darkcoin ASIC resistant? And how does it compare to Vertcoins Scrypt-Adaptive-Nfactor?  I am actually a DRK supporter I just want to understand how script ASICS could affect the coin and how it compares to Vertcoin in this regard. Thank you.

There is no guarantee anywhere.  If there is money to be made to create an ASIC that can handle all 11 algorithms, someone will make it.  I don't think we'll be there for at least a few years, but then what do I know?  Everything happens faster now than with the original Bitcoin.

 Shocked Huh

Every time this happens they disappear in short order due to KGW, so not really anything to worry about when you see it.  Just a whale that finds the pool closing in on him Smiley

DarkSend Beta Version 3.5 (v8.9.7)

- Session ID's are now tied to the blockHeight, so they'll be much more stable. Some users were reporting stale DarkSend messages all of the time because they couldn't sync.

Documentation:

Ubuntu 64 qt: http://darkcoin.io/downloads/beta/darkcoin-qt
Ubuntu 64 daemon: http://darkcoin.io/downloads/beta/darkcoind

What's Next?
The next update is going to be a big one, it'll probably take me a week maybe.

Currently the network uses 1 master node, so it's a centralized implementation. I'm going to write some tamper proof logic to pick a random node from the network and elect it as the master. This is a neat implementation, because when you leave on your client it supports the network and you'll randomly receive fees when people try to attack DarkSend ( or turn off their clients in mid-transaction, lose their internet connection, etc ). We should see a really healthy amount of full nodes because of this, maybe even more than Bitcoin itself eventually.

I may want to make out with you.  But totally not in a gay way.

I'd make out with you too, except I'm old and icky and it'd be like making out with my kid.... ooooh, gitting REALLY goss now!

is there a 32-bit version of a cpu/gpu miner yet?

Sorry, there probably never will be, it's not worth it to mine on a 32 bit system, it just doesn't function well.  You could dual boot or boot off a jump drive, Ubuntu 64 bit and run one from there, but then your desktop isn't available to you while mining...

ok thanks for the info...guess i'll have to install a 64-bit OS now on this computer Tongue I already have one running 64-bit OS but this one I'm on now is older, so it'll force me to upgrade the OS now Smiley

I just put my laptop that ran vista onto Ubuntu.  I hated vista, and just decided what the heck?  I enjoy using Ubuntu (classic gnome though) much more, so what if I paid for Vista, I hate it, LOL.  I used to think always that I should use it because it's paid for, but that's stupid, LOL.  Hubby just has to get used to it now !

http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2014/03/11/bitcoin-taxes/?source=cnn_bin

The link above talks about possibility of taxing bitcoin and how it is a reality because it is traceable This is huge. Darkcoin will dominate

I can't see how the government can tax before capital gains are realized?  Though, if you could buy enough stuff with crypto, it'd be a great way to hide from taxes (if your crypto increases in value)  After all, the money you put into crypto has already been taxed to death, so only capital gains can/should be taxed.

is there any chance is making DRK having faster confirmations like some of the newer altcoins have 30sec confirm times? 2.5 minutes may be too long in comparison especially if this is to be adopted for every day purchases eventually?

I don't think so, credit cards take just as long.  If you have insufficient funds, the store emails you later, after they find out and you're long off their website Smiley

Thanks for all the comments. I'm taking notes.

All the materials are work-in-progress, so I appreciate inputs. Smiley

I dig it, one add I might note though regarding DarkSend is that it is trustless and decentralized, otherwise it sounds like just another mixing service (ex. fedoracoin).

I also agree with the comments of changing anonymous to something more friendly, like private / not private

"DarkSend Transfers are very difficult to trace, if not impossible" can imply that with the proper motivation and means the tranfers can be traced, why not : "DarkSend Transfers are impossible to trace" instead, can we say that now ?

Pretty much, with a margin for unknown error....
1090  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin (DarkSend) | No Premine | Runs 30% cooler than scryp on: March 12, 2014, 03:46:02 PM

I decided to do something extra instead of sitting back.
I'm going to use my earned bounty to "BUY" users' way in  Smiley

I just sent a detailed email to 6 friends, with a link to the darkcoin wallet, and told them to download it, and send me their addresses.
I will later PM you with their addresses so you can divide equally and send them the bounty.
Once they are in Darkcoin, I believe they will also show/talk about it with friends, and thus the circle around Darkcoin widens.

That's a great idea.  I wanted to do something similar, and nobody I know is that savvy, they all reject the idea.  None of them are technical or anything, however I plan on giving a wallet to my nephews for their birthdays.  They may not know anything about cryptos, but are young enough to at least value them and not throw them away.  Believe me, I've tried!

I'm rather new here, but what is the status on KGW for Darkcoin?

I'm reading that its vulnerable to a time-warp exploit and allows for someone to execute a 51% attack with much less than 51% of the network.  The Digibyte devs successfully mitigated that exploit with a modified version of KGW and the Doge devs are implementing something similar as well.  Any way that Dark can leverage those two implementations?

Is this anything that Darkcoin should be worried about?

I'd be surprised if Evan slapped KGW on to his code, but would probably have implemented the idea, though I'm not sure.  Evan, you got a response?

I'm sure he would be aware of the exploit though I don't know?
1092  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin (DarkSend) | No Premine | Runs 30% cooler than scryp on: March 12, 2014, 03:37:40 PM
To be honest, I'm a little ticked that this started out as "Bounty pool for marketing and branding" and now it's just "Darkcoin bounties" including bug reports etc.  I'm fine with that for now, if that's what the funds are most needed for at this point.

But at some point, we need a REAL marketing pool, and it shouldn't be just spent on these incremental increases in value.  It should be spent on something AWESOME.  Marketing is an art, you don't just pay out a couple hundred bucks to make a slightly better website or translate to an additional language.  At least, that's not ultimately the best use of funds when you're ready for mass adoption.  Right now, this thread has ~171,000 page views.  That's great for now.  A liberal estimate means maybe 200,000 people have heard of Darkcoin.  All it takes is one good marketing play... one single thing that stands out, and you get over 10 million people that have now heard about your coin.  Doge has no technical use whatsoever and is far less interesting than DRK, but a brilliant marketing idea like donating $30k to the jamaiican bobsled team generates over 10 million views.  We need to find our own crazy marketing idea.  I'm not sure what exactly that is, but something that fits DRK and will get 10 million views based just on one single marketing effort.  This doesn't have to cost much, but it will take a decent chunk of any marketing pool and be worth way more than the sum of all of these incremental updates.  It could be something like a billboard.  You can rent out a billboard for a month that displays digital ads in a high traffic area along the freeway for under $1000/month.  This probably isn't the best fit for DRK, but someone has to get creative and figure out what that is.

I'd be willing to donate 5 to 10x my previous contribution to a marketing pool with a real marketing idea like this.

I am thinking something to do with Edward Snowden might be interesting. If that story had just broke and we were raising funds for him in DRK it would be perfect. The bit about the DRK fundraising would have piggy backed on all the press about him. It's less topical now though. Maybe getting the Snowden Defense Fund to accept Darkcoin would be some news?

If there is ever an individual whose privacy is violated and it becomes national news, fundraising for them may work.

Evan said (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg5184431#msg5184431) he would be speaking at the Cryptocurrency Convention on April 9th but don't see him on the speakers list. If there's anything we can do to support him in that or getting similar speaking opportunities I think it is the best use of funds/time in liu of a brilliant marketing idea.

Why try court so much controversy? It will bring negative headlines. The principle that any news, even bad news, is good for publicity? Maybe, but then you spend years trying to shake off the negative image - like bitcoin and silk road.

Why not go after a more positive approach - North Korean people being able to access online payment services thanks to darkcoin - that would be practically impossible, but that sort of thing.

I'll try and see if I can get Satoshi to move his bunch of BTC though DRK.  That would make the news Grin

If the coin provides anonymity and it is well highlighted, those who need that feature whoever they may be will be attracted.

These are really good BIG MARKETING ideas that could totally align with DRK.  Funding a Snowden Defense Fund would be a strong play at spreading massive awareness for darkcoin AND provide an actual avenue that the coins can be used.  Ie, people buy coins just to donate.  If not the Snowden fund, make a large publicized donation to something similar that Darkcoin has a real use for.

I  like this too.  I'm thankful someone like Snowden stepped up to the plate, and Obama's administration were fools not to give him a pardon, so they could minimize the controversy and leakage - They still don't know what he has and now the Russians have him.  Stupid  move.  And the kid is hardly a criminal!  Stupid stupid stupid!

Hi,

As promised, I'm currently working on an infographic and other promo materials.

This is the first draft. Constructive criticisms please. I used the reference given here for DarkSend.

https://i.imgur.com/FTL8o5V.png

Keep me motivated - Xt2BE83Nwts16Gm3VX8UPfMMbj5haWk514

I only have 0.83 DRK!

Ok, I got some ideas, hope you don't mind:

1.  where you write 84M darkcoins to be produced, can you add over the next 70+ years?  So people understand it's much rarer than that?

2.  I don't think you have the logistics quite right, with how darksend works.  The amounts that go into the pool are in rounded up amounts.  100, 10, 1, .1, 01.  This pooled with others that have put in the same amounts.  The proper amount is forwarded to the recipient, and the change or difference is returned to the original sender using a throw away address that can not be attributed to any of the original senders.

3.  Under "How do I get DarkCoins" it's better to say "trade in your Bitcoins for Darkcoins at an exchange"

I love your drawings!  It's really great!  I've given out  more than I'll ever see again, but I've sent you a tiny amount, wish I had more to send!

Thanks for everyone's input.

I've corrected the following and updated the files (same links):

1. replaced logo
2. changed 'competative' => 'competitive'
3. replaced Darksend chart to V3 instead of V2.
4. I made the 'Other' section a bit shorter so that it all fits in one-page
5. changed wording to "hybrid decentralized approach of coinjoin & 'single-use throw-away addresses'"
6. changed wording to "Transactions use 'throw-away addresses' to conceal the identity "

I'm here for ANY changes, wording, suggestions etc.
If you want to copy the files and place them anywhere else - fell free.
I simply put them on an empty address I have that has no association to anything.

Awesome!  Now go tweet that moohla guy, see reddit, LOL

Oh, I misunderstood what they're capable of, but still it's like Coinbase (which processes payments for people like Overstock.com), only they're including other coins, not just Bitcoin.  This is in itself still a very good thing if we can get them to accept DarkCoin

Sorry. Not be disrepectful....but who is he?

A crypto startup based in Switzerland developing ATMs and payment processing for several coins (currently BTC, LTC, DOGE, VTC).

First time I noticed him was in the Dogecoin subreddit. He is very active and very very generous towards charities. He made a great name for himself, also maintains the dogecoin tip bot which is probably the most well developed tipbot out there (incredible volume) and now he's started https://moolah.io which allows you to pay for anything online pretty much with cryptocurrencies.

So basically you can go to any online store and pay with cryptos through them?  If that's possible, OMG!  It opens up the world!

People, We HAVE TO get him to accept us, please twitter him!!

At long last I finished the one-pager for Darkcoin.

You can see the doc here:
http://wowgwow.com/Darkcoin-one-pager.pdf
http://wowgwow.com/Darkcoin-one-pager.docx

From experience, having all the most processed and digested info on one-page makes it very easy for journalists, bloggers, readers etc. to tap in. I believe this will make our marketing efforts much easier.

Since neither English nor technology are my first "languages", please feel free to rephrase anything.

My 2cents.

ChompyZ, only one problem that I see is that the chart showing how a transaction goes is outdated.  We now use throw away addresses when the change is returned to the original payer.  I wouldn't call it just coinjoin, but rather a hybrid or combination of coinjoin and single use addresses or something like that.  I'd also say simple yet highly effective combination of coinjoin and single use addresses.  Definitely use the new chart though Smiley

Otherwise, it's awesome, thanks!

Does anyone know why the blockchain is all wonky? I was looking at the fundraiser address and couldn't find my donation. After comparing times I found it in http://explorer.darkcoin.io/tx/51b89879abdeaf32c6bded8303d42ea26e2e4513036da2b51fb3405ea2df8c1f#i0 but neither the from or to is correct and it says 86 when it was 75 which it also says.

Why is this blockchain so messed up even without darksend?

I know I paid via darksend, maybe others have and that is why it looks weird?  I really have trouble following a transaction so I wouldn't know a proper blockchain from anything else??  What is your reasoning/way of observation?
