I've been taking some time off from Math and Computer Science to work on my degree in Gender Studies[/i].

I love reading your posts and value your input as much as the next bullish xmr guy on this forum... but I'm sorry I gotta say it, what the hell??? Sorry to go off the topic, but how can a Math/Computer geek such as yourself be trying to get a degree in Gender Studies?  I would've put 100 moneros on something in the STEM fields....

Anywho, glad to see your back and in good health.  Looking forward to your posts for the exciting stuff ahead this summer/year.  Are you planning on doing another drunken AMA this year?

I remember back in my college days all the hot chicks were in all the sex ed classes. Smiley

I used to walk by them on the way to programming class. :|

Can anyone comment on the privacy solution offered by BTCD? They have termed it Teleport and Telepathy.
Teleport seems to have components of XMR's solution to privacy:
"In a mantissa attack you are identified because of the exact size of your transaction.
That makes your transaction distinctive among others and it is easy to spot you on the blockchain.
To remove this threat the telepods use standard denominations, i.e.100, 50,10, 5,1 and so on."
I've seen comparisons of XMR with other anon-centric coins but not with BTCD.

I think that using anything that is not a integrated part of the entire protocol will bring attention to a transaction as it specifically is trying to hide something, so unless the entire bitcoin protocol is changed there really is no plausible deniability in any method used to hide transactions. It is a fail before it is even tried.

Do you have a referral code you would like used? How safe is this russian site?

No, I just noticed their message on twitter. I cannot make statements regarding that unfortunately, since I don't have sufficient information.

I have a referral code but prefer not to share it because my goal was not to make money from this. Monero needs to be listed on more exchanges. Although the original Tweet came from me, I not affiliated with livecoin in any way. I  know several people who use the exchange and are satisfied with it.

Keep voting!

Any idea how high Monero currently is on the list? Or is there no visible list?
When I looked at it, it was within the top 10, I think like 5th or so. I didn't vote because you need to either have a history of trading with them or "buy" votes.

I am not a fan of buying votes, but I can understand why they would want those with a trading history. They want to add coins that will be actively trading by their customers. DASH has reasonable volume there so I think we can assume this is a good opportunity for XMR.

I just can't take a exchange seriously that has this "Текущая сессия истекла в связи с неактивностью. Пожалуйста, выполните вход повторно." as their opening sign in message for selected language as english and tries to push adobe flash at me. REAL scammy looking and certainly NOT professional in the least.

Please Support the Monero Stack Exchange!

Transitive property. If A = B and B = C, then A = C.

If blockchains are decentralized databases

And Monero has the most advanced database

Then monero is the most advanced blockchain.

Performance branch for the win.

https://gist.github.com/hyc/33f3eec6bae83246209d
TL;DR

Monero v0.9.0.0
Elapsed (wall clock) time (m:ss): 18:57.16

Monero v0.9.3.0
Elapsed (wall clock) time (m:ss): 16:50.76

Perf branch bc69d842cc4982ea48eaa4338247a179b5f8a082
Elapsed (wall clock) time (m:ss): 7:54.48

Is no one paying attention? Does anyone else notice that only monero is actively improving and developing its database machinery? THIS WHOLE TECHNOLOGY CENTERS ON A DATABASE!

I think everyone a bit worn out from the constant dumpage. Where the fuck do all those coins come from! It's tough to keep up the spirits when you see the market getting so manipulated and your holding for altruistic reasons.

Don't take it personal, most people here are nothing more than speculators that are trying to make a buck. Keep up the good work.

How has the VPN service adoption rate been to bypass the great firewall? We have no way to check this metric do we?

Is there any work being done so that the VPN host can be OS's other than NT (I forget which kernel version). I think this restriction is stopping alot of people from hosting. For instance there are alot of Linux hosts out there that would add a vpn node but that is not possible ATM and no-one is going to change their Nix server to xp just to run a vpn node. This should be a priority if it isn't already, adding meta data to the blockchain is a nice feature but something that no-one really cares about.

You should make a list of current priorities in the OP and then the community can comment on them so that you can get our input.

How is the adoption on the chinese side? Do you have a Chinese marketing person that can speak english? If so you should also have them posting in this thread to keep us up to date on what is going on on that side. We are alienated by the language barrier over here. As has been mentioned even the documentation while translated is translated poorly and not readily understandable. Don't get me wrong though, we do see the amount of effort it took just to get it there. It just needs to be polished by a bi-lingual native english speaker.

Yes, our English needs to be strengthened, we are changing.
About VPN, in our country there are some legal risks, we can not focus on VPN.
We are changing, focused on blockchain development.

Thanks.

If you have changed direction then we are not interested in this new direction. You had a great concept and we backed and agreed with that. That is the reason why we here are even here and backed this coin. If you have given up on the initial direction of providing vpn services than there is no reason for us to continue to support this coin. If you are only changing direction because of fear then what you need to do is have someone that is not on the chinese side of the wall take over the DEV of the VPN portion and push it forward from this side where it is not in any jeopardy of being against any law. This will keep the original and only as far as I and I'm sure many others goal of this blockchain intact and moving forward. If you do not do this then I can guarantee that this coin will fail on this side at least and you have wasted all your effort from the start and should just rename the coin and rebrand.

Otherwise this coin will be nothing more than a P&D from our point of view and I think that would be a real shame. Maybe you should separate the code and remove the vpn on this chain if you are not going to support it and have a Dev from a less restrictive country launch it again. I hate to see this great Idea die but the way you are currently handling it you are killing it as far as we are concerned. That is why you are seeing no activity here. If you don't address this issue then I also will no longer feel the need to support this coin as I feel the entire basis that this project was based on is now gone and not only gone it has been gone for some time and you did not even bother to mention it to us. When did you plan on filling your supporters in on this very important direction change? We have been seeing this for awhile now and have been silent giving you the latitude to go in whatever direction you wanted as you had earlier stated you wanted to experiment with some features but never did you mention that the VPN support would be abandoned. You have a decision to make here and it will effect the success of this project immensely. Your reply to this is Extremely important so take some time to consider your options and if you need feel free to PM me or anyone in this thread you think may be of help on this matter.

I hope to continue to support this venture and await your reply.

Monero got to be the most boring coin of all. I don't know, there's just nothing exciting about it going on.
What do you guys find exciting about it, hands down?

Incorrect.

A minimum subsidy may be implemented in the future with <1% inflation to preserve mining incentives.

Quaint to see the [MRO] symbol from back then.

It was there from the original post before any edits (perhaps forum admin could verify) but that is the first capture in archive.org, May 20, 2014.

Whatever your criticisms of Monero, please do not make things up.

That's all he has left.

I would like to thank all the trolls for posting here.

You have proved a point to a potential DASH investor.

He often sees such negative behaviour in his industry against visionary start-ups.

Thanks smooth for you do not know what you have done for DASH.

EDIT :  IMHO monero should think about implementing masternode btw, so that price have better

You will Never Ever EVER EVER see Mnodes in any serious Vcurrency. Did I say ever yet? They are nothing more than a bandaid on a flawed system that incentivizes holding. They also add a huge security weakness and have the opposite effect of their intention.

Hey thx for your fast reply!\
I solved the problem with last version you released recently!
I have to ask you some questions, because BCT/official vpncoin forums are quiet inactive and lack NEWS:
1. what are the future plans for VPNCoin?
2. What marketing are you doing right now to help spread VPNCoin awareness in China and globe-wide?
3.are you in the process of more development of VPNCoin?
4.Do you think(and is so, why?) price for VPNCOin will rise in the future?
5.What other reasons you can think of for me to continue HOLDING VPNCoin?
6. Thank you very much! and have a nice day ! Smiley

Earlier this year, we cooperate with the BitChain company,
After several months of hard work, BitChain company released the VpnCoin 1201 version,
This version contains the BitChain protocol,
Through the BitChain protocol, we can share the digital contract, digital certificate, find lost kids, loving declaration and other meta data to VpnCoin's block chain.
And BitChain company will promotion BitChain protocol to other companies, to use VpnCoin's blockchain.
These are the news, and the things we're doing.
But our community seems too cold, I don't know why...

Thanks.

So 5 q-bits is not enough to work on the problem for some reason I can't really fathom.

My reasoning is that if quantum bits are anything like normal bits, then they could be emulated upwards at the cost of speed. But with quantum speeds being already too fast that wouldn't be such a problem.

I'm not sure what you mean by emulated upwards, but I think you mean that we could emulate anything we currently have and we would still see a speed increase do to the instantaneous nature of the state of which we are only limited by our ability to detect that state. If so then that pretty much is what I presumed.

So who's going to submit a transaction revealing algorithm (Noble Sir)?

http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-36203043

In case anyone was concerned after some digging around apparently there is some really weird aspects of qbits such that their correlations to standard bits are not linear.

Quote
The work of Proos and Zalka show how a quantum computer for breaking 2048-bit RSA requires roughly 4096 qubits, while a quantum computer to break the equivalently secure 224-bit Elliptic Curve Cryptography requires between 1300 and 1600 qubits.

So 5 q-bits is not enough to work on the problem for some reason I can't really fathom.

Really weird aspects are to be expected...

http://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/everyday-myths/quantum-weirdness.htm

...because "quantum" (ie quantized) is the opposite of "linear."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-slit_experiment

I was not aware that quantum is the opposite of linear. I'm aware of the double slit experiment, thanks.

What I am trying to say is a standard bit has 2 states and I assumed incorrectly that a q-bit had the same, apparently the third state of both is also quantifiable where as I had incorrectly guessed was just discarded ergo leaving a binary result. I have not done indepth reading on the subject as It would be a waste of time for me to try. But I do find it interesting and would like to know when it will become a threat to our current encryption and when it does, what the alternatives are. Apparently the alternatives (suite b) are not recommended as being safe as well currently and there are bounties out for new methods.

It's going to be fun watching people try to get their head around quantum physics Grin

From my understanding the basis of quantum computing is the phenomenon of entanglement.  Although entanglement is sometimes portrayed as information being transmitted faster than the speed of light, that is not what happens.

You have been watching me try to do it for about a year now and failing spectacularly! Cheesy

Now for some fun: naming Monero releases

fluffypony posted this 8 months ago

As David has mentioned before, we'll be switching to Semantic Versioning soon, and fully implementing it from v1.0. This means that the next release of Monero will be 0.9, not 0.8.8.9, as it is a major change. We're resisting tagging 1.0 till we have the new RPC API implemented and a subsequent compatibility freeze on the API for the whole of the 1.x range.

Just for fun, though, I'd like us to come up with a naming system for Monero releases. It will only be minor version bumps that get a name, not patch releases.

My two proposals are:

Made out of Elements

This gives us a maximum of 118 releases (which is plenty) before we have to switch to a different naming system. We will follow the order in the Periodic Table (ie. by their atomic number), and an object will be selected by the Core Team (or the community) that is "made" of that element, using alliteration / assonance for maximum awesomeness.

Examples could include stuff like:

Monero 0.9: Hydrogen Haircut
Monero 3.0: Magnesium Mountain
Monero 24.3: Antimony Alarm
Monero 50.0: Ununseptium Umbrella

A Testament to Nobel Winners

This is advantageous as the list grows every year, so we should have names forever. No particular order need apply. Nobel laureates would typically be credited using their initials and surname.

Examples could include stuff like:

Monero 0.9: G Marconi
Monero 3.0: M Curie
Monero 24.3: N Mandela
Monero 50.0: R Zinkernagel

Thoughts? Alternatives? Input? Speak now or forever hold your Palladium Peace.

Where is it written in stone that all releases have to be an element? If any release should be a exception to a naming scheme then the initial would be the one.

I can't think of a better tribute to a from what I understand was a completely altruistic contributor, btw how many of those do we have?

Is there a list of those that don't receive from dev fund or other funding methods?

Also What was his name? Or has the family chosen not to share it? Adding Dev Obituaries to the chain should be a good practice. So few of us leave a mark on the future when we are gone.

I'm not sure why it's taking me so long to bring this up but I assumed something like this would have been discussed by those that worked with him. Maybe it has been on reddit or IRC? My only news is from here and occasionally getmonero.org and I cannot find anything there.

First bold: I dunno if there's a list, but the core devs are a good place to start. In fact, I think the only people to receive direct funding are those involved in forum funding projects. From my understanding of how things work, the core devs really don't "snag" part of the dev donations - they use those funds to either fund developers or infrastructure (our DNS checkpointing safety net, for instance... of course that might be funded by fluffy, i dunno).

On the second bold I can only comment by not commenting Smiley As with all things monero, "soon".

no idea re: his name reveal.

This would be good to know and should probably be linked in the OP for easy access.
