We just announced our list of panelists, speakers, and topics for Bitcoin 2013. Since Gavin is at the top and I'm at the bottom I assumed at first that the list was in order of importance, then I realized that it was alphabetical by last name  And you wouldn't be the last on the list if MNW were to present, but I guess we don't see that happening. He was originally on the London conference list, but that didn't materialize. What I really came here for was to post a friendly bump and link the panelists page above. Also, to see if there's an interest for those attending the conference to hear me present how Bitcoin can improve philanthropic efforts through an enhanced entity currently known as Bitcoin 100. There's no argument to when Bitcoin breaks-out, NPOs and NGOs, alike, will slowly start embedding Bitcoin donation buttons unto their respective websites, with entities such as BitPay acting as the liaison to convert bitcoins to their local currency prior to depositing the funds into their bank accounts. Even when Bitcoin becomes mainstream, I believe a Bitcoin-100-type entity still needs to be in place to facilitate the process, coupled with acting as a liaison of sorts to address any and all concerns that would most certainly arise. And be self-funded, not needing to solicit further donations from bitcoiners or elsewhere. If you feel that what I've outlined above on how I believe I can accomplish such a feat, and would like to learn more while attending Bitcoin2013, please let me know by posting here. I would love to give such a presentation, as well as sit on some appropriate panel. Having been on stage probably over a couple hundred times during my entertaining years in Nashville, I'm pretty sure I still remember how to hold a microphone, assuming microphones are to be used opposed to one being audio-assimilated like a Borg. I look forward to your replies, with apologies for posting such a request in this thread. I believe Bitcoin2013 will turn out to be an exceptional event. I knew right then and there that Google knows what I'm thinking and that there's nothing I can do about it. Lately, Google has been suggesting that I should be friends with some goat.  I have to assume the former statement still applies to the latter statement, because both are made in the same post... in which case, I must ask, why are you thinking about befriending a goat? What you need is a bank that is willing to take bitcoin for mortgage payments...they could put in minimal effort and just bitpay, but some one needs to bring the idea to a bank.

I was forced into having a Google+ account since I do use some google services. I never participate actively in anything there though. Sure thing, I know these people. Let's be friends! (Although I think both those humans (?) are great, it's kind of odd to send anyone a message saying that they may know Satoshi, haha.) Maybe it's just a trap ? Puts tinfoil hat on. A couple years ago, I opened up a G+ account to be used for my barn wood enterprise, and opted to use a pseudonym. Google, with its infinite wisdom, soon recognized it as not a real name and shut it down until I proved it was my real name. That is still their policy today, yet they will suggest a known non-existent entity to be your friend. Now a spooky Google story that happened to me a couple two three days after the Super Bowl. I was reading some article suggested to me via Google News. During the reading of the article, I thought of Paul Harvey and wondered what was his last broadcast before he died. Note, that the article I was reading had nothing to do with Paul Harvey. It was just some mundane rag article that caught my attention, hence possibly my mind drifting elsewhere. I went to YouTube, which we all know is own by Google. I typed in the search box "Paul Harvey's last broadcast" (without quotes). Upon seeing the results, the first ad video (top right corner) was of a Super Bowl ad. Since I enjoy viewing all the SB ads, this one caught my attention because I hadn't see it before and it was 2 minutes long. I immediately clicked on it. It was the Dodge Ram truck commercial with a voice-over of the late Paul Harvey. I knew right then and there that Google knows what I'm thinking and that there's nothing I can do about it. Do you think it's good idea to convince WWF, PETA etc. to accept Bitcoins?
I do.I will keep sending emails to polish and international organisations with a question if they accept Bitcoin dontations. If you can provide a list of the world biggest nonprofit organisations and/or their emails - that would be helpful. Like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Charity_fundraisersAnd of course - if you send an email too it would be perfect for them - and for us I guess. All an NPO/NGO would have to do is embed a Bitcoin donation onto their respective website, and they would receive $1,000 USD from Bitcoin 100. Depending on their local and non-profit status, BitPay will convert the donated bitcoins into their local currency at zero cost, deposited directly into their bank account. Ultimately you could sell raw milk on silk road I guess. But I don't think it would be a popular thing to do... despite what some may think people who drink raw milk like to research where their cows come from and sometimes even visit their farm. Plus you can already order raw milk online from places I think......... organicpastures

The government should concentrate on catching actual criminals who do harm rather than people performing non violent trade.
Why does politics have to inch into every topic, even ones that have nothing to do with it? Bitcoin has to fit into the system we have now. Trying to fit the system onto Bitcoin is useless and unproductive. Bitcoin is important, but not that important. No, Bitcoin cannot be blamed—one of the media's faults when describing Bitcoin. But it could, and should, be used to help stop criminals, as it is far more traceable than historical forms of currency. If criminals wish to use Bitcoin, they should expect to be caught.
It's a lot harder to trace in smaller transfers. Besides, it's anonymous  I was talking about bitcoins with my mom the other day and she decided it would be the perfect way to launder money Bitcoin is anonymous in the sense that careful criminals can escape the reach of incompetent detectives. Any large operation will come under great scrutiny and be eventually figured out. That's why we should embrace Bitcoin for its ability to detect and eliminate organized crime, not defame it for facilitating it.Interesting! Would the average Joe prefer using a currency that a criminal may use because it possibly could be undetectable, or embrace it due to the fact that all their spending happens would be an open book? I am just curious what the next excuse is... "Bumping facility was robbed only leaving the boxes the chips came in and some mysterious fans that were placed in the boxes."  I'd go with something like "The mean bad government confiscated all our chips." That would explain why they have zero which can be proven to work, and also would deflect rage away from their poor abused selves. An added advantage is that they could also string 'customers' along for a few more month with stories about how their lawyers are about to make a breakthrough in return of the property and so forth. I think that most of BFL's 'customers' could probably be kept on the line for years judging by the past performance. <Before I read post 112, I wish to reply to this, post 111.> With "so forth" consisting of Mt Gox safeguarding the chips, releasing them once the original true owners have been identified after providing proper paperwork. |

The forum is neraly unsualble today.
I hope we are ddosed or something. If not this really needs to be fixed ASAP. It's not OK if the forum collapses everytime we get a huge amount of visitors.
I agree. I had multiple 500 errors today (500, 502, and 503), and it seems like the forum was completely down for quite a while. theymos, was this because of new changes again? We need to be more pro-active about forum stability and software if we want to match forum growth, and the growth of Bitcoin as a whole. Same here. This is the first time I've been able to stay on BT for an extended period of time, and have no guarantee that I'll be able to post this post. I've had the 500, 502, and 503 errors as well all day. Along with an SSL warning of some type via Chrome (using Vista on laptop) and another really weird warning I've never seen before, nor bother to remember. Taxing my memory, it read similar to an SSL type warning, yet completely different. Any chance the meteor had anything to do with this? AMD is a badly run company with no clue about the future. They missed changes in the desktop processor space, the mobile chip space, the gaming space, the ssd drive space, and now the ASIC mining space. The stock is down about 62% ytd, and it closed at $2.71--they really need all the help that they can get. The best way to get their attention is to buy some AMD stock then head over to the annual shareholder meeting and request that they build a better miner--if a lot of us purchased AMD stock, we'd be in the less than 1% of customers that would actually purchase a mining device, but we'd have some voting power with our pooled AMD shares--heck I'd also be happy if they would just build a dedicated Folding@home device while they are building your mining device A letter to AMD:
As we all know, mining Bitcoin or Litecoin are big selling point of AMD graphics cards, but this advantage will disappear when dedicated ASIC device emerge in the near future. Can your company consider this situation by adding dedicated accelerated unit or instruction set to furture AMD CPU and GPU generation for better Bitcoin & Litecoin mining?
AMD's reply: Upon viewing our balance sheet, it seems we do need a little influx of cash, in your case, bitcoins. In a couple days we'll be embedding a pre-order button onto our website. Once we receive $2M USD in pre-orders, we will set a fuzzy date as to when we plan to ship.
