10861  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: April 07, 2021, 03:17:15 AM
It will be interesting times for the lower ranked teams as you say some are having a hard time keeping their players to play for their country because they can earn better money elsewhere. I also think this virus will have an affect on some teams as not many are able to play cricket right now due to the virus and not many are playing domestic cricket so it could put a halt on young talented players coming through.

Even here in India, the 4-day domestic tournament was cancelled for two consecutive years (2020 and 2021). The ODI/T20 tournaments took place, but the number of matches were reduced. It not just affects the match fitness of the players, but also their financial capability as well. Because these players receive a payment of ₹140,000 for each 4-day match, while the salary is just one-fourth of that for the T20 and ODI matches.
10862  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 07, 2021, 03:07:45 AM
If the numbers continue to increase like this then I would think the IPL season will be postponed. Its going to be another year like last year in all sports until the vaccine roll out is spread far and wide around the world. Until then I think we'll see many sports delayed, even with these bubbles players are still catching the virus and officials so it might be best to postponed until its under control.

There are rumors that lockdown will be reimposed in the state of Maharashtra. If that happens, there is no chance that the IPL matches will be allowed to take place in Mumbai. Even from the beginning I was saying that the decision to schedule some of the matches in Mumbai was a big blunder. I think BCCI still has enough time, to shift these matches to cities such as Chennai or Hyderabad, which are doing relatively better.
10863  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla now accepts Bitcoin on: April 06, 2021, 06:37:18 AM
This adaptation is really good, imagine in the future people pay cryptocurrency more rather than fiat money.

For large payments, that doesn't require immediate confirmation, Bitcoin can be used at a lower cost compared to fiat currency. The transaction fee is still quite high (median fee stands at around $10 even now), but it is possible to get the payments confirmed in 4-5 hours even if you pay a fee of less than $1. For large purchases (such as Tesla Model S, which costs >$80,000), paying in Bitcoin can be more cost-effective, easy to process and safer compared to more traditional forms of payment.
10864  Economy / Speculation / Re: April 14, Coinbase IPO and pump on bitcoin? on: April 06, 2021, 06:20:36 AM
It is quite confusing to hear all these self-contradictory statements about Coinbase. The latest news is that rather than going for the IPO, they will go for direct listing in NASDAQ. If it was IPO, then we could have made rough calculations about the valuation. But since that is not the case, there will be a lot of suspense before 14th April, and then extreme volatility once the stock gets listed on 14th. The real valuation will be known only by the end of next week.
10865  Economy / Economics / Re: The total value of the crypto currency market is near $2 trillion on: April 06, 2021, 06:09:23 AM
Cryptocurrency is becoming more and more needed by the people, this will further advance and hasten its global reach and adoption. One of the signs it's happening is the market cap for the industry, as we near $2 trillion, people are going to be more FOMOed to not add a few cryptos in their investment portfolios, probably even have crypto as their first assets to be owned. To me, this sparks a very great future for the industry, can't wait for what we have in store in the future.

FOMO was there in 2017 as well. But it didn't turned out well for the ordinary investors. A lot of people accumulated BTC at $15,000-$20,000 levels and the prices fell to $3,500 per coin in less than six months. I don't think that the situation we had in 2018 will repeat, but investors need to make sure that they are investing only as much as they can afford to lose. And I do see a lot of people making investments with little known altcoins. These people need to be extra-vigilant.
10866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we get another golden oppurtunity to buy? on: April 06, 2021, 05:58:18 AM
I don't think that the Bitcoin prices will fall below $50,000 level in the future. In the past, we had major corrections on two occasions (first one in 2015-16, and the second one in 2018-19), because there was widespread panic selling among the individual investors. But now the investors are aware of this volatility of Bitcoin and most of them are unlikely to liquidate their holdings even if the prices fall. Also, the entry of institutions will prevent large scale dump of Bitcoin in various exchanges, as they are looking for long-term hold.
10867  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao offered $10 million to fight Terence Crawford on: April 06, 2021, 05:47:10 AM
Back to the topic, they are contemplating a June 5 date in Abu Dhabi for this fight and if this pushes through, i'm predicting a knockout win by Crawford.

LOL.. a win for Terence Crawford.. and that too by KO? I understand that Terence Crawford is a very good boxer. But I have checked his professional record and all of his wins came against little known opponents. You can say that Amir Khan was an exception, but when the fight happened (2019) he was in decline and was no match for Crawford. Fighting against Pacquiao is going to be much tougher for Crawford.
10868  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian vs foreign companies on: April 06, 2021, 05:37:42 AM
can not be denied, it is a kind of spyware....if Russian government really want to grow love for domestic products then you don't have to force it like that.  countries that still have a bit of communist ideology will not be separated from "spying the citizens".

Chinese and Russian technological developments are completely different, China may be successful in doing this to its citizens but Russia is not necessarily able to do that.

No need to underestimate Russian software. At least in the field of anti-virus protection and surveillance, the Russian software is much ahead of their Chinese competitors. But the fact is that Russian government doesn't have the same control over its citizens that the Chinese regime enjoys. But I don't think that this step has anything to do with spying or surveillance. The new proposal is more like a retaliation against Western sanctions.
10869  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is still hot but Bitcoin Dominance is dropping. What does it tell? on: April 06, 2021, 05:27:43 AM
Whenever there is an influx of new users, the Bitcoin dominance goes down and proportionately the market share of altcoins rise. But this doesn't last too long and Bitcoin will recover most of the lost market share once these users move towards Bitcoin after getting disillusioned with the returns from the alts. Also, Bitcoin prices are stagnant for the last 4 weeks. Things will change when the next rally starts.
10870  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin will replace oil and Gold on: April 06, 2021, 05:14:43 AM
I don't think one can replace another and they can co-exist. In the time of market capitalization, BTC cannot be compared to Gold and the adoption is just setting in. Maybe in the next decade, when we have universal adoption, this kind of topic will be more interesting to discuss.

I agree, but from what I have seen gold is losing its relevance in the investment circles. Immediately aftermath the pandemic started spreading (April/May 2020), there was a sharp spike in the gold prices. But now the prices have fallen well below the pre-pandemic levels. On the other hand, Bitcoin has increased by more than 500% since the first lockdowns due to COVID 19 were imposed.
10871  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: April 06, 2021, 04:19:50 AM
Here, in Bangladesh, the third phase of the virus is running from last week and people are getting affected rapidly. That's why, government imposed a lockdown period again from yesterday for a week. But I think the period is not enough to fight with that virus. On the hand, vaccination process is also running but the result is not satisfactory. Actually, we don't know when it will go away.

Same here in India. Back in February, we were having around 8,000 cases per day. Now the numbers have rocketed upwards to more than 100,000. And this is despite the fact that India has one of the most successful vaccination campaigns in the world (so far more than 80 million doses have been administered). The state of Maharashtra is alone accounting for more than 50% of the cases.
10872  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: April 06, 2021, 01:16:53 AM
I would say Pakistan is going to win the ODI series. 5 of South African players -Rabada, Quinton de Kock, Lungi Ngidi, David Miller, and Anrich Nortje are already leaving for IPL so its a advantage for the Pakistan. I'm going to put some money on Pak after checking Proteas new team.

These are like the best players for South Africa and especially the departure of Nortje is going to severely weaken them. He was the one who gave the South Africans crucial breakthroughs during the first and second ODIs. Also, Rabada is perhaps the best depth bowler South Africa having right now. So I guess the responsibility will fall in to the hands of inexperienced pacers such as Andile Phehlukwayo.
10873  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I tried to tell him just HODL bitcoin, don't make this hard. on: April 05, 2021, 05:03:25 AM
Do not let your emotions take cover your decision. Sooner or later, you'll regret that decision you made. Well investing in ALTcoins is not a bad thing but the worst decision he made is selling all of his assets in BTC. Thank you for sharing your experience and I learned something from it.

This is what happens when people get greedy. It is true that some of the altcoins are going up very fast. I am talking about coins such as Ethereum, Binance Coin, Polkadot, Cardano.etc. There is a lot of hype around these coins. But the most important fact that everyone is ignoring is that out of the 10,000 plus altcoins, only a small fraction has gone up like this. The remaining coins are still stagnant or declining.
10874  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: About 20% of all Bitcoin (BTC) in circulation was lost – Study shows on: April 05, 2021, 04:48:19 AM
And 100% of the article you posted from a website you have been advertising (it's all over your post history) is pure crap. You are basically rehashing the same arguments in a new "article" then posting the link here to get traffic to your site.
The fact is (as always) you can't measure how many coins were lost. And "not moved" has never been equal to "lost".

Agree mostly with this post. Just because an address hasn't seen any activity since 2010 or 2011 doesn't mean that all the coins that are stored in it are lost. Similarly, there may be wallets with activity from 2019 or 2020, but after that there is a chance of the coins getting lost due to the death of the owner or carelessness in handling. Coins getting lost due to the death of the owner is a serious issue in cryptocurrency sector. The best example is obviously that of Gerald Cotten, which made the funds of Canadian cryptocurrency platform Quadriga inaccessible (the lost coins in Quadriga are reported to be worth more than $800 million).
10875  Economy / Speculation / Re: The power of Bitcoin HODLing on: April 05, 2021, 04:32:07 AM
HODL isn't an easy thing to do. Most of people don't even HODL actually. The real HODLer is never sell any of your coin, despite how bad the news on market, dump on market, or anything else. You simply don't care about those news and just keep HODL your coin.
If your coin already made your 10x or 20x profit for you, you must be gotta sell it ASAP. Just simply buy and HODL your coin for 1-5 years isn't even HODL, that just investing.

Normally we don't plan our investment like that. If I had purchased Bitcoins in 2018 for $3,500 per coin, then I would be having a specific target price (such as 10x - $35,000 or 20x - $70,000). I will be selling all or part of my coins once this target is achieved. On the other hand, very few of the investors would take time period as a target. No one invests in cryptocurrency and makes a target to hold for a specific period, such as 5 years or 10 years. It simply doesn't make any sense.
10876  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19, Lockdown and repercussions on: April 05, 2021, 04:21:06 AM
I think my country is quite different cos at the initial time covd19 emanated, things become difficult affecting the price of goods and services especially food stuffs and other basic amenities. That was the  first phase of convid 19 ranging from 12/03/2021 to 01/09/2021. During this period I almost go begging cause of high price of food and means to make money was frozen as a result of  serious restriction of movement.

The second phase of lock down was less severe maybe because of the repercussions of the first phase. Well I thank God that my country is not under any restriction again. Things have started going back to normal now, while the wise ones have started investing in skills acquisition that could help to avert the infliction of any further lockdown.

You will hear similar stories from all around the world. Here in India, the lockdown was announced all of a sudden and people were given just a couple of hours to stock essential items. And the shopkeepers took advantage of this and increased the prices by 2x or 3x. The worst affected were migrant workers, who got stuck without any access to provisions. Many of them tried to return to their native villages by foot, walking for 1,000 or 1,500 km continuously.
10877  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: April 05, 2021, 04:11:22 AM
I understand that they wont play the best players against weaker teams but a defeat cannot be justified and i was watching the match when Macedonia scored the goal in the last minutes of the first half and from then on i was watching the match and when i found that the German players were struggling to score goals even in the open i wanted to cash out as i knew something is fishy but unfortunately the cash out option was not available for the match.

On top of that, it was a completely one sided match (irrespective of what the stats say about the match). If the referees were neutral, then North Macedonia would have won the match 3-0 (even the tweet from former German international Bastian Schweinsteiger confirmed the same). The small victory margin is not because the match was close, but due to mistakes made by the referee. There is no justification to the loss. The simple fact is that on that day North Macedonia turned out to be a much better team when compared to Germany.
10878  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: April 05, 2021, 04:01:18 AM
Fakhar Zaman fell one run short of Saeed Anwar's 194. It was an incredible fightback from Pakistan, but they still lost the game. When Faheem Ashraf was nabbed by Andile Phehlukwayo, they were at 205/7 (38th over). But they finished at 324/9, thanks to that exceptional innings from Fakhar.
I did not expect Pakistan to score over 300 runs when they lost their 7th wicket for 205 runs and Fakhar Zaman played an innings of his career but still ended up short. Phehlukwayo bowled an incredible 47th and 49th over and if not for his tight overs Fakhar Zaman could have taken Pakistan to victory. Now the series is leveled and with the performance Pakistan showcased i am expecting another interesting series.

Andile Phehlukwayo is very good during the depth overs, and even during the first match he proved that. On top of that Fakhar Zaman looked extremely tired towards the final overs. His hits were not having enough power to clear the boundary and even at that point he had to go for risky singles and doubles (and in the end got himself runout). Anyway, when he was run out 30 runs were needed from 6 balls, and Pakistan had already lost the match.
10879  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin after the pandemic on: April 05, 2021, 03:51:16 AM
Both have impacts but it's more weight with institutional investors, they've got a huge amount of investment

compared to those combined stimulus recipients, if those institutional investors multiplies their invested money

the impact will surely pumped the market, while with stimulus holders, they can also move the market but not

that much.

It will be wrong to make such claims without knowing exactly how much amount was put by the institutional investors and the individual investors. According to some of the researchers, more than $25 billion from the stimulus checks will be used to purchase Bitcoin in the coming months. I really doubt whether the new influx from institutions is worth more than this amount. Therefore I would say that the current rally is being driven by individuals, who are using their stimulus checks to purchase BTC.
10880  Economy / Economics / Re: Food Prices Are Soaring Faster Than Inflation and Incomes on: April 05, 2021, 03:41:05 AM
Also, do not forget about the various pandemic restrictions and lockdowns that led to a decrease in production volumes or even a complete cessation of production, which led to a decrease in the production of agricultural machinery and equipment. I would also like to remind you about the closed borders for migrant workers, which are necessary for seasonal work. All this also contributes to the growth of food prices.

Restrictions on foreign agricultural workers may be one of the reasons for low productivity. Even here in India, the lockdowns had an impact as it slowed down the movement of agricultural workers from states that provide them (such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar) to those states which employ them (such as Haryana, Punjab and Tamil Nadu). And agriculture needs 24x7 maintenance. Disruptions to this may spoil the produce.
