1103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Liberty Reserve is now dead (Good News For Bitcoin ?) on: May 29, 2013, 01:27:31 PM

No, shutting down unregulated gambling sites and exchanges is LOW PRIORITY.

The US takes it's sweet time...
Bureaucrats usually spend 2-3 years building a case...
Identifying principals involved and observing an operation...
Then, "suddenly", the site goes down in 5 minutes.

That's what happened with Full Tilt Poker... 5-10 times bigger than MtGox.

The principals are then charged with crimes carrying huge jail sentences...
Linked to drugs, terrorism, porn, etc...
The principals are invariably extradited or have to go on the run...
Then the whole thing is negotiated with $1000/hour lawyers...
But the business disappears overnight.

Rinse and repeat.

One has to be in complete denial...
To think MtGox or Bitstamp is different from LR or FTP.

Wrong.

Mt Gox operates from Japan (this is not a US state, in case you were still unsure)

This means the Japanese authorities would have to cooperate with the US extradition orders and subpoenas etc. That won't happen. Costa Rica and Spain will give up the Liberty Reserve people. Japan won't be giving up Mt. Gox, or at a least not without an inordinate amount of backdoors arm-twisting. And when you look at both the political and the public sentiment towards the US in Japan lately, you'll realise that's also pretty unlikely.
Even if not extradited (look at kim dotcoms case), they can still ruin the business.
1104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How long can BTC-E Stay in Business as a black market company? on: May 29, 2013, 01:26:01 PM
Critical thinking isn't fear mongering.
In fact, you even have proof: e-gold. They where shut down in 2008 and only now people are able to get some of their money back (no idea how many %) if they provide identification. Mind you, this was a company located in US, it could be worse for a company located outside of US.
1105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Liberty Reserve is now dead (Good News For Bitcoin ?) on: May 29, 2013, 01:16:16 PM
MtGox could be closed tomorrow.

This is clearly not the case, because by that rationale, it would have already happened. Mt. Gox can still operate it's Japanese bank accounts denominated in all currencies...

Ya, and if bitcoin actually requires us to use TOR or a VPN, how would that benefit mass adoption? That would kill it entirely.

You do not need mass adoption. Sure, to see the $300k per BTC predicted by rptard you need mass adoption. But I personally don't need to see $300k per BTC.

I'm happy with a system that gives me and the ones like me monetary freedom. A decentralized, trust-free system which allows me to store and transfer value independently from financial institutions. A system that no Government can kill, where my funds cannot be seized.

Yes, it sounds like "paradise" for black market. The truth is that it is, and what Coinseeker does not seem to understand is how fucking big is black market's economy. But it's also a paradise for those who want an hedge on the current, rotten financial system - as telemaco just said.

If you are worried about not seeing mass adoption and thus "cheaper" coins, do not worry. As you can see with drugs, everything that is banned and difficult/dangerous to get comes with a premium. Yet, I do not think there will ever be 6 figures coins in a global ban scenario - but 4 figures coins? You can take them for GRANTED.

the articles floating around mainstream sites paint LR as an evil money laundering operation. though i've never used LR or any egold like services it's pretty harsh statements.
Yes, it's completely and utter bullshit. Liberty Reserve was great, just like e-gold. Just not so great for the fascists who run the US government.
1109  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Mattew N. Wright still passing off a scam in the past as just a "prank" on: May 28, 2013, 07:25:10 PM
Well I don't know about your country, but if you read the law here, a child is defined as someone in the age range of 0-18
Please look up the definition of that word. It doesn't mean what you think it means.
Which is exactly my point....

And since you only replied to this off-topic comment, I'll assume you agree with the rest of what I said.

Well, in a sense it's good for bitcoin, because people will start realizing that what happened to e-gold and liberty reserve can, and most likely will, happen to PM, EP, STP and so on, whatever payment processor takes the throne after LR will become a target of the US government.

This could make more people interested in and accepting bitcoin for their business, but there is a bootstrap problem here, in those industries where LR was king: hyip, autosurf & other grey areas. It would probably require some of the biggest actors to start using it and promoting bitcoin for it to really win this market. It needs a majority using bitcoin. In order to accomplish that it must be integrated with the infrastructure so that it's easy to setup etc, but for now I think the volatility may prevent it from happen. If I where to guess, these people will jump on to the second best e-currency after LR, which may be PM or STP now.
1112  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Mattew N. Wright still passing off a scam in the past as just a "prank" on: May 28, 2013, 01:53:14 PM
You know damn well if you won, you would have pursued our debt and made sure anyone who didn't pay up received a scammer tag. I went in when the amount was capped to 10K BTC, thought you were nuts, did some math, decided why not, this ponzi has came to it's end, free money. No payments from pirate... you got cold feets... decided let's go nuts and pretend it was a prank, accepted crazy bets until you reached 80k + BTC.
You thought Pirate was legit
I have neither believed he was legit nor non-legit, only that people were so quick to judge (just like you) what they didn't research or understand themselves.
Seriously man? We've seen so many ponzi schemes throughout the years it's not even necessary to research anything when you see a continuous percentage far higher than any man has ever been able to make it's obviously a scam. Then add an anonymous internet currency and the fact that a person so incredible smart he can earn more % than any man in history before him decided that hey, why not just deal with the hassle of investors and share the wealth. The numbers don't add up it's a no brainer.
People are still falling for total bullshit here on a daily basis, so overall it was just a waste of reputation and a pretty immature thing to do.
Most people were not falling for anything, they were just greedy and wanted more bitcoins. They knew it was a ponzi scheme and invested with the plan to get out before all the other suckers. Anyone with more than half a brain knew those returns offered is impossible long term.

What I've learned from all this is that you shouldn't interrupt the mob mentality unless you have *evidence* against them, not just opinion.
No, the mob should provide evidence. E.g show to any other investment that has been able to offer such returns long term. Or maybe prove what's wrong with the exponential growth argument.

It has already been argued that he could have used my bet to instill *more* trust for his scam (which is not what I had intended and felt horrible after making that connection myself).
Well, that's what it did, suckers started buying up pirate debts to hedge, because they believied your bet was legit.

What I would have done with funds if I had won is obvious. I am here to build, I am friends with almost every business and exchange owner in bitcoin. Do you really think I would have kept the money if I had won?
Would have kept? If this was a prank you wouldn't have accepted any money in the first place.

I'm not sorry for pulling a prank, I'm sorry for not realizing the damage it was causing.
Well lesson learned, and it wasn't a prank.

Until you don't do that, for me you will still be an untrustworthy, mentally unbalanced child.
I can live with that. There are some people who think because I said a 17 year old girl is hot in her pictures (which she is), that that makes me a pedo (someone who likes toddlers)
Well I don't know about your country, but if you read the law here, a child is defined as someone in the age range of 0-18 and if you think a 17 year old is hot, or even a 17.9 year old, that makes you a pedo because you find children attractive <sarcasm>you sick son of a bitch!!</sarcasm>. Now you have three options:
1. Be proud to be pedo
2. Chicken out and say you don't find anyone less than 18 years of age attractive.
3. Point out these mistakes whenever you see people making them.

5.8k to get there.

I know it's a noobish question, but ... how do you guys calculate how much btc is needed for it to go to "X" price?
I am ashamed, because I traded btc for months now, but didn't know about this.
http://bitcoinity.org/markets then hover your mouse over the depth graphs and it will display the amount Smiley

Does anyone know of a good way to see history of all trades?

http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com/   M1 chart

or

http://mogsta.com/btc/  (last hour)
5,366.86 sold
4,677.37 bought

That's not history of all trades.

Clarkmoody lagged on me... was the wall bought, or removed?
Bought, all of it...

Removed (after 1k was bought)
I watched it live, looked like it all was bought, and volume is almost 7k so seems right.

there is not buy volume 7k (last hour) Wall removed when volume dropped below 6k
Then what is this:
