11021  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin be hacked and what will be the result if it happens? on: March 29, 2015, 05:15:58 PM
As described by CrackedLogic, brute forcing private keys is theoretically possible.

But I guess hackers or other tech geeks will need hundreds of years worth of patience. And then still, chances are high that there is not any progress made  Cheesy

Perhaps that a huge botnet can get you a quicker brute force result, but again, it's not very likely. At this point our private keys are safe.
11022  Economy / Service Discussion / Low priority transaction confirmation time calculation. on: March 29, 2015, 03:12:35 PM
I was wondering how do low priority transactions confirmation time gets calculated?

For example, if you have let's say 100 received inputs with each less than 10 confirmations and want to empty the wallet with just 1 output.

Usually you see : "Low priority" "will confirm within xx amount of blocks" But how can it be so certain about when the transaction will get confirmed within xx amount of blocks?

If you add 0.01BTC in fee, the priority is still low but it might get confirmed after just 1 block right? And if the fee is 0.0001BTC it might also be confirmed outside the quoted confirmation time frame?

It seems to me that the quoted confirmation time is a bit misleading. It just depends on which pool is going to grab the highest fee as first. Or am I wrong?
11023  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which one anti-virus you are using to secure you PC on: March 29, 2015, 02:56:00 PM
I use Avira Antivirus free version for like 10 years or so. It works perfectly fine.

Using your brains is also a good anti virus. Don't click on shit, and don't download shit.
11024  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin prices fall $250 --> $240 where next ? $500 ? on: March 29, 2015, 02:44:51 PM
For some reason once Bitcoin nears $300 level something happens or bad news shows up and it falls down to below ~$250 level again.

Is it coincidence, or is a group of traders heavily manipulating the price. But then again, why would they keep Bitcoin down as they had plenty of time to buy in already.

Bitcoin is a free market. We decide the price of Bitcoin. That basically means we don't think Bitcoin is currently worth $300.
11025  Economy / Speculation / Re: Reasons Bitcoin does not replace Fiat (today March 2015) on: March 29, 2015, 02:26:55 PM
3. Not fast. I cannot complete a person to person transaction in less than 20 minutes.
You have been around long enough to know this is not true. The transfer is instant. Confirmations just make it even more secure.
Bullshit.

0 confirmations txs are not secure.

Double spending still takes considerable eff and money to pull off. People are not going to double spend on small amounts. I assume you can wait for a few confirmations when you're buying a car or anything of considerable value...

Double spending is a problem yes. I agree. But you can actually see if the person you are dealing with is attempting to double spend.

Blockchain is transparent, it would cost you less than a minute to actually spot a double spend attempt.

Less experienced Bitcoiners will most likely be a victim as they don't seem to know how things work. Same for stores accepting Bitcoin without confirmations.

In order to avoid problems when dealing with large transactions it's better to wait for at least 6 confirmations. Better safe than sorry.
11026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did Satoshi managed to stay anonymous? on: March 29, 2015, 02:07:49 PM
Staying anonymous was a very smart move Satoshi made. Hard decision probably.

Not hard at all. Especially when you see what Bitcoin currently look like compared to the early years. He can easily stay in the background and see his wealth grow through the roof.

Satoshi as being a group definitely would make it a lot harder to stay fully anonymous as there might be a person in the group getting jealous and extort the others in order to get a financial gain.

I think Satoshi is a 1 man show, but we will probably never know. For me it doesn't matter really if he's planning to reveal his identity at some point or not. He's a legend without a doubt.
11027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could you imagine your life without Bitcoin poll on: March 28, 2015, 03:21:47 PM
I have voted : Undecided.

At this point I can say that Bitcoin isn't that important to the level that it would affect my earnings and financial situation if I stopped using it.

That might change in the future. As it is now, Bitcoin is way too unstable for me to dump a big chunk of my savings in it.

I would love to, especially to get that money out of the hands of the banks and governments.

Once it reaches the stability I am looking for, which allows me to convert my savings to Bitcoin, I can say without a doubt that I can't life without Bitcoin anymore.
11028  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think 1.00 BTC will worth more than $10,000.00 USD at any time in 2015? on: March 28, 2015, 03:14:18 PM
Glad that there are also realistic people here. I have seen plenty of people saying '$2000 this year for sure!' or '$1000 before the end of the year'

I think the ATH this year will be around the $400 level. Don't think many people will be unhappy with that.
11029  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-03-28] The Bitcoin Investment Trust (BIT) Goes Live with Ticker GBTC on: March 28, 2015, 03:02:11 PM
Who have thought Bitcoin will reach this far a few years back? Not many I guess.

It will be interesting once trading of shares will start. I don't think the impact on the price will be directly visible.

But surely for the long term it is fantastic. Especially once the Winklevoss bro's also finalize their Gemini exchange.
11030  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will we ever see BTC over $1,200 again? on: March 28, 2015, 02:55:05 PM
It might take a year or 3-5 to reach over $1200 level again. At least I don't expect it before 2018.

If Bitcoin grows with 100% each year from now, which is a reasonable estimate, then we might actually stay above $1000.

As long as it isn't a peak like last time, we will be just fine. We don't want it to drop hard for another time.
11031  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it better to save money or invest it? on: March 26, 2015, 02:21:01 PM
It depends on where you are located. Saving your money in your bank is an easy option but not very lucrative.

In fact, I have read an article about banks who are going to charge negative interest rate on your savings account. Which is ridiculous of course.

I would choose for spreaded investments. Leave 70% of your money in your bank, and invest 15% in Bitcoin and the other 15% in something like a Bitcoin startup.
11032  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-03-26] CS - UK-based Startup LazyCoins Launches Cryptocurrency Exchange on: March 26, 2015, 02:14:43 PM
I like the fact that people have a good number of exchanges to choose from.

But how do you know if these new exchanges are here to stay or to disappair with funds after a while.

I guess only time will tell. People have to do proper research before making desposits on ANY new exchange or service.
11033  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [03-24-2015] CoinBuzz: 500 Bitcoin Ransom, Entire School District Shut Down on: March 26, 2015, 02:07:47 PM
Are the hackers insane? Attacking the school's computer system!! immoral! evil!

Hacker thiefs don't care about the tail of destruction they leave behind.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the school guys trying to get an easy and quick jackpot.

11035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto owns SATOSHISLIST.COM? on: March 25, 2015, 11:06:33 PM
Yep! I can confirm that (as SGK wrote) you can register a domain without any real identification, therefore you are free to use any fake information.

Every one can register a domain with fake details, but it's not smart to do so, especially if you are planning to develop your site.

People can send abuse reports to ICANN and the registrar itself. Which may cost you your domain.

The site belongs to some one who is trying to gain attention or so. Why else would some one use Satoshi details in his whois.
11036  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is 2015 The Year? on: March 25, 2015, 10:58:06 PM
In the very early stage of Bitcoin, yes, it's still early, every year is THE year for Bitcoin.

It becomes stronger and stronger. As Chef Ramsay stated, we have to wait for wealthy investors who bring in fresh money.

They laugh at the current market cap of Bitcoin. Once they start investing heavily in Bitcoin we might all feel like we are early adopters, even if you bought today.
11037  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [03-24-2015] CEX.IO Tightens Security And Removes Trading Fees For One Week on: March 25, 2015, 10:50:43 PM
Just checked the volume again; it's increased to 405 BTC. Looks like it's been moving up slowly and naturally. It will be interesting to see how their volume changes in the upcoming days.

It won't do much for them in regards to getting large traders to use their exchange.

Their BTC/USD volume is very low, in fact, today their volume is 255BTC mostly caused by 2 volume spikes.

First spike 134.7BTC, and the second spike 41.8BTC, which totals 176.5BTC.

You sure? I just checked their 24 hours BTC/USD volume and it only shows 73BTC.

I'm not talking about BTC/ altcoin volume. That kind of volume is not relevant.
11038  Economy / Services / Re: Up to 0.035 BTC weekly for YOUR SIGNATURE *New rules on: March 25, 2015, 10:44:45 PM
Considering registrations are closed and considering BTC is stuck at this low price, has a raise of payment been considered?
People are asking this every time bitcoin price goes down. Funny they are not asking about downgrading their payment when bitcoin price goes higher.
And it is not like BTC is 'stuck' it will rise again, just earn coins now, wait for pump and you will be good. The best part of bitmixer's campaign is its stability.

People are greedy. It has always been like this.

There is no reason for Bitmixer to increase payments. 0.035BTC is 0.035BTC no matter what the exchange rate is showing.
Bullshit. If the exchange rate was 1 BTC = 1 USD you wouldn't bother.
Right now 0.035 BTC is 8 dollars. This is Low specially for those Sr Member and above, most of the other campaings are paying way better. Whats attractive from this campaing is definitely the fact that it's automated and you don't have to deal with the campaing owners, having to re-enroll every month and have luck that no one takes your spot again etc... thats fucking annoying. The sense of stability is crucial, knowing that month after month you'll get paid is HUGE, it feels more serious, it feels even more as a real job than for a lot of people living in shitty countries were their jobs are temporal and then they get kicked, sometimes after days.
The problem is when BTC price goes down it starts being a bit not worth the time and effort.
The next step to make this the ultimate campaing is automating the payment depending on the Bitcoin price. Stablishing a decent amount in USD which is non volatile, then get paid these USD monthly in BTC. This solves the problem

Bullshit? Nope.

Exchange rate is not important for me in regards to Bitmixer signature campaign.

Whether my weekly payout is worth $6 or just $1 I'm completely fine with that. It's free.

I don't post to get paid. I get paid for something I would do anyway. Which is being quite active.

And yes, I could join a signature campaign that pays far better. But I'm not interested in doing so.

10. DarkWallet: Untraceable bitcoin wallets - this can be bad obstacle for mass adoption I think. Mass media and people who think that bitcoin is just tool
created for hackers for criminals would have a solid argument when this service will launch...
Dark wallet got already relased some time ago wasn't it?
Or did i get it messed up with darkcoin?

DarkWallet was released in early May of 2014 I believe, and is not related to DarkCoin.

For the media DarkWallet was another "proof" that Bitcoin is the ideal payment method of choise for criminals.

Since when is caring about privacy considered a criminal activity? Since never. Only the media don't seem to understand that.
