11061  Local / Criptomoedas Alternativas / Re: MimbleWimble (Beam/Grin) pode desbancar o Bitcoin? on: January 25, 2019, 05:56:30 PM

11063  Economy / Economics / Re: How can Bitcoin reduce global economic inequality? on: January 25, 2019, 05:31:59 PM
1. Cheap cross border micro payments for micro tasks. (Global tipping services)
2. Cheaper remittance services. (People working in 1st world countries, who wants to send money home to their families)
3. Lower global interest on loans. (Individual funded loans that compete with Banks)
4. New job opportunities (Crypto currency and Blockchain related)
5. New investment opportunities & tools for non-professional traders. <Less fees and no barrier to entry>
6. Hoarding will stimulate a increased saving culture.
7. A hedge against Hyperinflation. <Protect your wealth from your countries/governments bad decisions>

As I read somewhere in Twitter: bitcoin allows You to do the transactions banks say you can't do.

Remittance services are far too expensive and bureaucratic. Bitcoin will kill those remittance services, or at least reduced their price to a more competitive price (like 0.30usd for a Swift, instead of 45 USD)
11064  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to $10 million? on: January 25, 2019, 05:25:03 PM
This topic has always fascinated me. Based on my 30-minute research and reading a few months ago, basically the opinions on this matter is mostly these two. That if a global economic crisis would occur, people would:

1. People would flow into bitcoin, as a hedge to their local fiat money dropping in value.
2. People would definitely wouldn't touch bitcoin, as it would be pointless to move their funds to a more volatile asset that could potentially crash down more.

I'm personally leaning slightly a bit more on the first one though.

This always fascinated me as well.
Crisis are always coming , as there are always economic cycles. Bitcoin was created just after the last one.

The next economic crisis will be bitcoin's first.  It will probably react in a positive way, as it was created as an alternative to that cycles .

Ofc not 10million, but we can dream of 20k again in a more susteinable situation.
11065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's your favorite ERC-721 token? on: January 25, 2019, 04:22:42 PM
the difference between erc721 and erc20 where is that? I am a newbie, I just found out about erc721, and how to get erc721 tokens / coins?

ERC-20 tokens are like coins. All those tokens from ICO are ERC-20 tokens. You can make transactions with them, send/receive, etc. They are fungible.
Fungible means they are all the same. If I have 1 BAT token, and you have one as well, they are both worth the same value. They are interchangeable.

ERC-721 are a little different. They are non-fungible. They are not interchangeable.

For example, the OP like cryptokitties. It is an ERC 721 token. He knows each of his kitties, and each one of his kitties (or tokens) are different from each other. Some of them are more valuable than others.
Take a look at some here for example. They are all ERC 721 tokens, but they are different. Maybe the black one is worth 10 times more than the other two.
11066  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's your favorite ERC-721 token? on: January 25, 2019, 03:32:26 PM
As for me, my favorite ERC-721 token is CryptoKitties. This is because, I can breed my own kittens which live on the Ethereum blockchain virtually forever. In some cases, I get rare breeds which could become very valuable in the long term if sold for ETH.

All ERC-721 tokens are like that. Once you receive an ERC-721 token, it is there on the Ethereum blockchain forever.

I donīt think those kitties will be long term valuable.... they were valuable only when it was released, now the prices are just down AFAIK. There is no reason to pay a high amount of money on those kitties.
11067  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Samsung S10 crypto wallet leaks on: January 25, 2019, 03:25:53 PM
This sort of news gives me mixed feels. I like Bitcoin and crypto being adopted by tech giants just like the next guy, but I'm afraid this will lead to propositions like "it's dangerous to be in control of your private keys, if you're not a professional securely backup your keys on Samsung Knox" (or w/e key storing solution they'll offer).

Yes. However I think that this is inevitable, as there are many people who will want to use bitcoin in the future, but are not willing to control private keys and deal with those security stuff (which is not easy for older people, or users who are not interested in new technologies).

There are many people who still struggle to use whatsapp or a smartphone. If there is a simple option for those people to use bitcoin, I think itīs a valid choice.

If you think about a business's point of view, investing in a cryptocurrency wallet would be very disruptive and would put Samsung ahead of your main competitors who are Google Wallet and Apple Pay.

+1 to Samsung. South Korea is really a great place for cryptocurrency, good to see South Korean companies pushing on adoption!
11068  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Disscussion: Innovation(technology) that changed the world. on: January 25, 2019, 03:17:39 PM
Farming was the invention that had the greatest effect. Without farming man would have remained a hunter/gather, and would never have had the time to reflect on potential changes, discuss them, and then implement them.

Certainly. I was talking about this book, Sapiens,  where the authors talks about history of mankind since before Homo Sapiens.
He talks in much detail about the Agriculture Revolution. It changed mankind forever, as we were nomadic before that (hunters and gathers).

the agricultural revolution is what allowed the humanity form towns and cities. Having houses and a fixed location allowed us to develop lots of different tools, technologies, philosophy, political institutions...

however at the same time plagues became more common and our diet changed a lot. Hunters and gathers had a more diversified diet, with different fruits, seed, cereals, meat, fish, etc...
with the advent of agriculture humanity began to consume little variety of food (too much corn for example). And plagues became more common.

Before the agriculture revolution, he talks about other revolution: The Cognitive revolution. When mankind began to form larger groups of people and some kind of organization, different from the other homo species.
11069  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: A Few Key Points to Correctly Choose a Hardware Wallet on: January 25, 2019, 01:26:39 PM
Yes, that is the way I manage my ERC20 tokens, using Ledger Nano S + MEW to interface the to/fro TXs and normally Eherscan to follow check on them.
Currently, Ledger Live (software interface) does not support viewing ERC20 tokens, but allegedly, they claim to have planned to add the feature at some point.

This is very annoying. I do that too,as I use Ledger to store my coins and I have some ERC20.

The biggest problem I see is that MEW has many security flaws. Sadly there is no other trusted third party desktop software such a "Electrum for ethereum" to use...

I found those tips from MEW about security, i think they are important even for hardware wallet users:

11070  Other / Meta / Re: How to check potential activity of bitcointalk account? on: January 25, 2019, 01:17:38 PM
Since merit introduced activity lost importance.

Only for spammers and bots.

Many users only need activity to rank up...

You can post a lot and get merit faster, but you cannot get more activity (only until certain limit, 14 each 14 days)
11071  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Disscussion: Innovation(technology) that changed the world. on: January 25, 2019, 01:14:10 PM
We were arguing on the innovations that changed our planet as we have today.
-snip-
So what do you guys think,  which technology (innovation) changed our world the most?

It is very hard to think of one technology without setting specific parameters, such as last 30 years, 100 years, 1000 years...

Recently the most recent innovation that changed our lives was the smartphone.

Yesterday I was thinking that I spend too much time using my smartphone, so I would try to keep it at home tomorrow. But I use my smartphone to unlock a public bike that I have been using daily, so I cannot leave my house without my smartphone! The whole mankind is just staring at smartphones now.... thatīs so crazy.

Smartphone wouldn't be anything without the internet, so I believe internet is really the "innovation" behind smartphones.

And of course, there would not be internet without electricity....

Certainly electricity changed humanity a lot, it even changed our sleeping habits, as people were then able to easily stay awake at night.

11073  Economy / Reputation / Re: Self-moderated topic-Users deleting posts without reason. What to do? on: January 24, 2019, 09:44:08 PM
Guys I will just close this topic.

I should just carry on of course. I shouldn't even think about this idea . Sorry
11074  Economy / Reputation / Self-moderated topic-Users deleting posts without reason. What to do? on: January 24, 2019, 06:18:24 PM
These two users just deleted two posts of mine in a self moderated topic. They are probably alts, as they are doing the same behavior and both posts were deleted in a very similar situation:

Butterscotch Cartman
turtletime

The posts were relevant to discussion, and were even quoted. The quoted text remained, as it was relevant to discussion. They were not great posts, but I find that very annoying.

I was thinking if there was anything to do. I just left a negative feedback (i am not a DT, so there is no harm to him, but its like an alert to other users). Maybe leaving a negative feedback is too harsh?
One of them is already tagged by owlcats for trolling anyway... lol
11075  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: What is bitcoin's largest obstacle to bitcoin adoption? on: January 24, 2019, 05:19:40 PM
1. Hold Mentality.
2. Using Web wallets or using Exchange as wallet.(not using own wallet)
3. Block Confirmation time
4. Most of government do not recognize it.
5. Main stream media still take it as Ponzi scheme.
6. Big Cooperation are more interested in their own private block chain and token.

Just want to make a few comments for discussion, as some of those points are kind of cliché and not often discussed.

1. I think that hold mentality is not bad for adoption. Saving money is good, and people always saved money. Itīs a kind of adoption IMO. The holder is just not spending the bitcoin now, but he is ready to if he wants.

2. Even though web wallets are not the safer option, they are good for adoption. Common people, especially older people (at their 50s for example) are much more used to an e-mail access than to a private key etc... BLockchain.info , for example, allowed thousands or even millions of users to create a simple wallet and use it. Ofc you will not put thousands of dollars there, but for a few bucks its perfectly fine. Easy to use, and great for newbies.
If somehow his wallet is hacked, itīs bad for adoption.... but if wallets such as Electrum were the only option, only a few crypto nerds would adopt bitcoin.

3. About this point, I will quote my own post:
Personally, I think scalability became a marketing, just to make people invest in vaporware coins. Such as bch and nano.

Beating Visa in transactions is possible. But can it beat BTC in decentralization at the same time?

There is no reason to have a global cryptocurrency if it is centralized, owned by a company.

Additionally, being able to scale to 10k tps is not a reason to use it.

Let's suppose I created a website that allows to have 1 million users online simultaneously. Will you visit it?
If you are worried about blocktime, you can just buy some LTC. LTC is a BTC with one block per minute (basically). If you think thatīs a game changer, LTC would be the way to go.

5. This is true, mainstream media is not a fan of bitcoin. I believe that with the advent of internet and social media networks mainstream media is losing its power. We just donīt need them anymore.

Take a look at what happened in US elections for example. Trump was cursed 24 hours a day by the media, and he won. Trump now just call mainstream media "Fake news" , refuses to answer their questions and talk direct to the people using his Twitter account.
We just lived the same situation now in Brazil. Bolsonaro (elected president) talked to people through facebook and youtube, as mainstream media was strongly against him.

Not just in politics, but in many other areas as well. I donīt even read mainstream media anymore, as I have plenty better options online.
11076  Other / Meta / Re: Where should I post? on: January 24, 2019, 04:27:13 PM
there will be more than one tutorial and how-tos like (how to install the wallet, how to send coins, how to run a node, etc..)

I believe service discussion (altcoins) or service discussion (if you use BTC) would fit nice.

There is less spam in those boards compared to ANN session, so it would be a better option.
11077  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is this a wallet tracking method? receiving 0.00000546 every few days on: January 24, 2019, 04:23:18 PM
If fees go up to just a few sat/byte, it will cost more to spend the dust than it's worth.
Some wallets allow locking unspent inputs, Bitcoin Core for instance gives this option:
Option > Wallet > Enable coin control features > OK
Send > Inputs > "right mouse" on an input > Lock unspent.

In Electrum it is very simple to do it. Just click in the Coin tab and choose which UTXO you want to spend (each of those dusts are going to be one UTXO individually).

Itīs probably not worth claiming them, if there are too many transactions.

Maybe the best option would be to stop using that address and wallet.

Someone is tracking you. I think it would be a case to use a coin Mixer. Send all your funds from that wallet/address to a mixer a then move it to a fresh new wallet.
11078  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: i want to buy 30 BTC, whats the best way ? on: January 24, 2019, 01:25:21 PM
Coinbase, Bitstamp and Kraken are all pretty thorough as far as identity checks are concerned. Last time I had to update some personal info on Bitstamp it took a few weeks to update, but that was during the height of the bull market so things may proceed faster now.

While I also wouldn't buy 30 BTC in bulk via LocalBitcoins it may be worth trying to buy smaller amounts via multiple sellers. Be aware that some of the more professional sellers nowadays ask for IDs as well, however that process shouldn't be as lengthy as your standard exchange KYC procedure.

KYC procedure may be really a pain in the ass in those exchanges.

However 30 BTC is a very high investment and you should do everything the "right" way, without shortcuts. Buying from multiple sellers in localbitcoins may be an option. However, for all this amount of money I woulndīt mind to do KYC. It may even protect yourself, in case there is any problem while buying.
11079  Other / Meta / Re: [Local boards] Boards not showing trust - German board w/o moderator on: January 24, 2019, 01:04:14 PM
For instance in politics or serious discussions. If the guy is painted red it could weaken his point, even if he is right.

Personally, i don't agree with this, and a guy painted red would not have that affect on my opinions about his points. Especially in politics discussions, which most of people already have their own opinions formed.

This argumentum ad hominem is a fallacy.
If the tagged guy has a point in a discussion, personal attacks about his tag do not prove that his wrong, but only the opponent own inability to argue.

Not showing tags everyone on the forum because there a few incapable users is a non-sense to me.

Tags are used to mark users as scammers, not as fools. They are capable to argue and defend their views by themselves. Hiding tags because "they would not be able to prove their point if tagged" is like babysitting scammers. They are capable of defending themselves in discussions.
11080  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: About Dice Games and Yolodice . Best strategy?? on: January 24, 2019, 12:48:47 PM
Variance will do that automatically. Once you encounter a long losing streak, you're going to go bust eventually.

Thatīs exactly what happened to me.

I got 20+ consecutive wins by luck. I just got confident with my 200% gains and raised my bets.

Then I got busted in a 3-4 consecutive losses, which made me lose all my gains and my initial investment lol
