11301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MEMBERS OF ETHEREUM TO RETURN ETC TO DAO INVESTORS PETITION on: August 11, 2016, 02:57:06 AM
UPDATE - Lots of rumours circulating - Large amount of DAO ETC Funds Have Been Moved To a  POLONIEX Address - POLONIEX is aware of the situation

https://twitter.com/eth_classic/status/763341172265848832

What is the update to this? It is like ETC holders and supporters are in denial of this and they are ignoring it. They all hail that the ETC from the white hat hackers will be returned but it might not be true. Is this the reason why ETC is going down this quickly?
11302  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Zcash Equihash PoW Released on: August 11, 2016, 02:37:37 AM
dga or tromp, any desire to make 1 BTC and help jl777?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1524143.msg15334660#msg15334660

I haven't taken the time to digest Equihash well enough to articulate an algorithm in pseudo-code.

I realize 1 BTC is probably insufficient for your time.

P.S. I am not involved in that in any way other than being aware that jl777 wants it.
I will donate some money to the guy who makes a GPU-based miner for Zcash.

It was said in their forum that there still could be changes in their algorithm. Nothing was specifically said what they were. So it would be safe to wait and let everything be finalized before committing in something. You can only mine in their testnet now and the official release has been pushed back with no date mentioned.
11303  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [FCT] FACTOM - HOW FACTOIDS WORK - PRICE SPECULATION on: August 10, 2016, 10:52:28 AM
Factom is still going strong. Does anyone have any solid idea what the reason is? I speculate that it will still go up more. But until it will reach the same volume ETH, it will not fly like it.
11304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MEMBERS OF ETHEREUM TO RETURN ETC TO DAO INVESTORS PETITION on: August 10, 2016, 10:44:32 AM

There's also reports that the white hat hackers has gone "rogue". They have allegedly transferred some ETC to Kraken and Poloniex. I do not know what to believe anymore. Can anyone confirm if it is true or not?
11305  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XMR vs Ethereum on: August 10, 2016, 10:04:16 AM
I think Ethereum is better than XMR , even though both coins have good market caps , but sure ETH is much better , because it managed to fetch more investors , also it has been growing faster , it is not a long time when ETH price was $ 0.9 , then the growing began , and now ETH marcet cap equals more than $ 900 m .

Also, ETH and XMR are very different one from other. While ETH focuses on smart contracts/dapp development, XMR focuses on providing an anonymous way of transacting by the use of ring signatures. Still, ETH could implement anonymity in the near future, thus making it a full fledged decentralized app platform with anonymizing techniques like ring signatures. Will this ever happen to ETH? Only time will tell. Just my opinion Smiley

In case you did not know. Zcash technology is going to be built on Ethereum. The platform will have anonymous smart contract transactions in the future if it is successful. The people behind zcash will fork Ethereum's parity client with zero knowledge proofs built in it.

In case you did not know Ethereum is a flawed platform, no one can make secure contracts on it and Zcash is as untested.

How is it flawed? Can you please explain why? Because if it is really "flawed" like you say that no one can create secure smart contracts then why are there people and researchers from universities interested in the platform? Why would the zcash development team or at least a couple of people from it be interested in developing  zero knowledge proofs in Ethereum?

I am sorry if I am skeptical. Most of the people that say "that is impossible, that is a scam" are the people who holds a competing coin.

Way before the fork to classic, a few smart people were outlining Eth's problems here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1361602.msg13855814#msg13855814

Who is he? What projects was he involved in? I would like to read a person's technical comments in something but it must be that person is a known crypto developer. No offense to him. I am only skeptical because of all the FUD that is happening all over this forum. It is hard to find out what is the truth anymore.

Who are they? Roach wasn't the only one spelling out the problems in eth. FluffyPony put on a clinic in twitter--as anonymint and smooth added a lot to the discussion in the Eth Paradox thread.

Anyone ever left holding a bag in our little cryptokingdom--either isn't paying attention, or doesn't know where to pay attention (and yes, that's a shameless ck plug for those paying attention--it's only shilling if you say, "I'm not shilling").

Forgive me for my ignorance but who is FluffyPony and anonymint? My point in saying when someone is known in the cryptosphere are people like Peter Todd or Gmaxwell. Even the founder of zcash is someone considered highly respected.

They will maybe have the same negative opinion on Ethereum but if people are looking for somebody to listen to it is them or the people in the same level as them.
11306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A MUST SEE video on why ETC will win: Deconstruction of the HF by Chris Ellis on: August 10, 2016, 09:56:46 AM
My analysis is the traders who are dumping are the same people who came in late. They thought that ETC will reach ETH parity in a short amount of time so the bought at any price available. The few clever ones dumped on the buyers early and took profit. When the majority realized this they too dumped taking small profits and some dumped resulting in losses.

The trade volume of the ETC is quite low at the moment. I think the big dump has not started yet so far.

Or it will not happen. Charles Hoskinson has already committed in helping ETC get organized for the creation of a road map, build a structured governance, get developers to start working on the platform and finally provide funding for maintenance. Even if you are an ETC hater it would be stupid to dump now. It is better to wait for a better price to sell.
11307  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC 202: Diaz vs McGregor 2 Info and Prediction Thread on: August 10, 2016, 07:43:44 AM
That is expected from coaches from all the different camps. Of course we will also hear the same from the camp of Diaz. It is all talk before the fight but when the actual battle begins that is where we see who is better. If Kavanagh thinks his fighter will dominate then they better fix McGregor's cardio because Diaz will surely have better cardio than him. The Diaz brothers are known to take part in triathlons and iron man events when they are not fighting. How can you dominate an opponent that does not get tired?
11308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 10, 2016, 07:25:18 AM
i think it will break 3 dollar by this week.

It will but not this week. ETC will need to consolidate first right now. Stability is more important for now than volatility and profit taking. What good will volatility bring the platform right now? Only day traders and gamblers will love it. The community as a whole will need to do the hard work to make this platform grow and improve further. Sorry to rain on your parade but you also know this to be true.
11309  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WAVES. Ultimate crypto-tokens blockchain platform. on: August 10, 2016, 07:19:48 AM
Hard question, how do third party money transmitters get paid? If there is no up-front cost, and it's all backend. What connects the two ? How do money transmitter connect the fiat funds that were paid to the waves platform or end-user? Where or how is it digitized to the block chain to go around swift ? For instance, I'm starting a business and need funding. I create a token on the waves exchange and sell it, so your money transmitters take fiat and release said token. Now the money taken by the transmitter is still fiat ? How is it moved, stored and released back again as fiat to the end token seller ? And how is the transmitter paid for their role ?  If anything the exchange  would  have to have bank account, that's on swift ? I'm confused maybe someone can help explain .. Thanks

Gateways are issuing fiat assets on the platform by themselves, while depositing fiat it is being converted to corresponding fiat asset on the platform, you are creating asset and doing crowdfunding next with fiat or BTC assets, while withdrawing fiat your fiat asset is being converted the same by gateway to fiat.

Okay.. Help please? Gateways are issuing fiat assets ?  Please walk me through a real world example. I'm totally confused. I'm a gateway I have 10k in fiat, how do I put that asset on to the platform?

ok.. another question? I guess the biggest part, where is this fiat being kept ? and how is it being accounted for in relation to created assets ?

Btw thanks in advance

You're not a gateway you are a user. A gateway is an exchange or a financial institution that agrees to be an issuer of any asset in the Waves platform that is backed by the asset you have. For example you have bitcoins that you want to trade in Waves. All you have to do is deposit your bitcoins to a gateway then from there transfer your bitcoins to your Waves wallet.

The bitcoins in your wallet are not actual bitcoins. They are merely a token that represents your bitcoins. Your real bitcoins are still held by the gateway where you deposited your bitcoins.

To find a working example look at Ripple. They are using a gateway system also which I think where Waves copied their system. Even the name is almost the same. Get it? Waves, Ripple. Smiley

Yes. I just watched Charles Hoskinson's interview. Very good news coming from him. I mentioned this in the another thread. Please check out Nick Szabo's retweet that has a like to an ETC wallet generator in it. What do you think? Is he supporting ETC?

Nick Szabo is a self-described libertarian. To me the answer is clear.

That is a good point. To me it will still be good to hear from him and know what his opinion is and what he thinks of the ETC versus ETH battle that is going on now. A lot of people in the community will find it valuable I'm sure.
11311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 10, 2016, 06:10:47 AM
Then there is no hope for them. If even acting out of self interest will not persuade them to do the right thing then they deserve to lose everything they have ever worked hard for. It will be stupid of them to make such a move.

What is funny is they can only try to destroy ETC. Trying and doing are two different things. I hope they calculate their next move really well. Their recent ones are not something to be proud of.

11313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 30+ projects being moved over from ETH to ETC on: August 10, 2016, 06:00:50 AM
Yes, ETC is indeed a fresh opportunity to go long an immutable advanced smart contracts blockchain with significant dev activity (hopefully), for those of us (myself included) who missed the ETH boat

I have no idea exactly what you just said and what exactly your point is because your statement is very general and that's what all smart contract platforms goals are.

Anyway there is good news from Charles Hoskinson. He will be organizing for people from the ETC community to come together to get a road map created, some sort of governance started, some developers to start contributing on the platform and most importantly give initial funding for maintenance of development. Along the way he will also look for investors to provide more funding.

This is good news no.2 but I'm not sure what this means. Nick Szabo has retweeted something that contains an ETC wallet generator created by Elaine Ou who is a known ETC supporter. Is he changing sides?
11314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: August 10, 2016, 05:48:36 AM
https://btcmanager.com/news/commentary/what-is-lisk-lsk-and-is-it-a-good-investment/

Is Lisk (LSK) a good investment?
From a contrarian perspective, this makes Lisk an attractive buy as the relatively low price at this moment in time suggests there is less resistance to the market moving to the upside rather than the downside.

LSK as an investment will only perform well in the long run if the Lisk network becomes a leading blockchain technology for start-ups to build new apps over the next year or so, which up until now looking very promising.

A uptick in volumes at the beginning of August!! Grin

We already saw the bottom, IMHO LSK is in the uptrend now!

What are you talking about? Is there really an uptrend? I just checked and I do not see any uptrend. The price is still sideways for now. Please do not try to hype when there is nothing going on at the moment. Thanks you.
11315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WAVES. Ultimate crypto-tokens blockchain platform. on: August 10, 2016, 05:41:10 AM
the price is back to 30k satoshi
I'm not patience to see the waves will to the moon 100k satoshi.

I'm afraid there is still the possibility for this to move further down. For some of the community members they will not invest more if the full nodes are not released yet. So always check what the development updates are and be ready for the price to go up.
11316  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 10, 2016, 05:36:59 AM
ETC has dropped nearly 20 million in market cap since 24 hours ago

It will go lower.  R3, Coinbase, and The Vitalik Foundation must destroy ETC, as it threatens to stop them from changing the definition of "smart contract" to include the threat of third party litigation.

That's a good thing because the dumps they create provide us with cheap ETC, and they will run out eventually.

Meanwhile, @NickSzabo4 retweeted blocks.elaineou.com and https://elaineo.github.io/etherwallet.

Do you know what that means?  Here's a clue:

It's almost time for a Bailout Edition #REKT thread...   Wink

I beg to differ in your opinion that Vitalik and the foundation "must destroy ETC". In fact they should be splitting their ETH to the equivalent amount of ETC right now. Once the two chains diverge it will be in their self interest for the original chain to be successful because they simply are ETC holders. If they attempt to destroy ETC the question is "what for"? It will be such a waste of time and resources.

Nick Szabo implying to support ETC is a boost to the legitimacy of the platform. Bravo!

Live ETC interview with Hoskinson going on now.

This is a nice interview. Thanks for posting. So now ETC will have a road map, governance, a development team and some funding in a few weeks. It is good to see that someone like Charles Hoskinson is willing to get out of his way and help assist ETC even if his interest in it is academic in nature.

11319  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Only ETC is the real Ethereum on: August 10, 2016, 01:36:16 AM

That is all only in theory. In practice what will happen is the miners will switch to ETC. Vitalik would be crazy to announce any definite dates for Casper's release now. That will make the ETC chain stronger because miners want long term security to operate. Casper is a threat to them.

Yeah. That is why ETC will have a strong advantage over this in the future as miners will keep the network secure, while ETH switches to PoS and would be left behind. Then, after ETH is forgotten the original chain (ETC) would prevail and there will only be a single Ethereum. I'd bet that they're planning a The DAO 2.0 real soon. Let's see how this would turn out in the long run. Just my opinion.  Smiley

Are you typing without thinking? ETH will not go away even if it switches to Casper. Not all of the miners will mine ETC some will find a different altcoin depending on the price of ETC if it is profitable. I said this in another thread, what I foresee happening is that ETC will become a "community chain" with community projects like in NXT and ETH will become a "corporate chain" with venture capitalist backed projects. This will be good because each of them will have their own niche market.
11320  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 30+ projects being moved over from ETH to ETC on: August 10, 2016, 01:27:15 AM

Who is Milo Icon and what are the 30 projects that is going to move to ETC? Who are backing these projects? If they are small projects started in a "garage", I foresee this trend will happen more in the future. ETC will become a "community" platform very much like NXT and all the projects will come from the community. ETH will be a corporate chain and most of the venture capitalist funded projects will choose to be created and developed in the forked chain. This will be good because there will be less competition from the both of them.
