11421  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Exchanging bitcoin to GBP and Euro? on: June 13, 2017, 10:44:21 PM
Thank you so much gentlemand.
By the way, though you can withdraw GBP (ie local currency) with Cryptopay.me card, the options were for a euro or usd card. I chose euro, was that correct, or doesn't it make any difference?

Yes it does. It'll charge you an extra foreign exchange fee the same as if you were withdrawing NZD or anything else. It might add up. It's often 3% or more.

Bitpay and Xapo do GBP cards. The Bitpay card fixes the exchange rate there and then when you deposit the BTC. The Xapo card only does the exchange when you spend GBP so the price you get will vary constantly. I got both just for the hell of it.

Exactly, certain countries that the USA doesn't like can't participate. That makes it look even worse. Smells like an intel job to me.

The only places that can't participate are the US states that all the usual exchanges reject because of their stupid state laws and the countries that'll get you shut down in places like Coinbase too. It looks like everyone else in the entire world is welcome. Any crypto thing with Americans involved would have to do the same if they were identifiable.
11423  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Exchanging bitcoin to GBP and Euro? on: June 13, 2017, 10:29:20 PM
Thank you gentlemand, eur only needed for a particular purchase.

What's the highest mark up I could expect for bitcoin to euro, or bitcoin to gbp?

If you can stomach it you'll get by far the most GBP for your money selling to the public on Localbitcoins or Bittylicious, but you'd have to wary of scammers and people may not want to buy unless you're very established.

If you're not up for doing that, and you'd need a bank account for faster payments which you may not have, then you're back into fairly piddling percentages and I'd still go for the card for the ease of it.
11424  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Casascius 2011 Error UNGRADED in Ebay $10,000.00 on: June 13, 2017, 10:27:06 PM
Whether the buyer actually stumps up the money is a different matter.

I've had friends selling big buck items on there that were driven up. When the original winner chipped there was a marked lack of enthusiasm from the second chance offer people.

You might find this a useful link - http://bittybot.co/uk/sell-bitcoins-uk/

If you're into EUR as well then the world is your oyster in comparison to GBP.

Just been looking at the stellar giveaway. You have to provide your facebook ID then tell them all your bitcoin addresses. Really what are they up to distributing a new cool crypto coin or linking bitcoins to people?

Do you have to give a real Facebook account? I have one but there's nothing on there and it's with a bullshit name. If they don't like that then I'll take a rain check on it. It seems to be purely about avoiding those deadbeats in particular US states like NY and WA subject to heavy regulation so perhaps it's an IP/location thing more than anything.
11427  Economy / Economics / Re: Is trading just educated guessing? on: June 13, 2017, 10:19:08 PM
I've done far better by pure guessing and jettisoning the education part. It's all largely a random shitshow so you may as well join in the fun. No one has a clue what'll happen.
11428  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Exchanging bitcoin to GBP and Euro? on: June 13, 2017, 10:03:40 PM
Thank you gentlemand, if I exchange on payeer first, could I sell the bitcoin for more GBP than the debit card website would exchange for?

Hmm. I'm not familiar with Payeer but I've just had a quick look at their website and I can't find any GBP option on there. GBP in general is a nightmare compared to other currencies because of the lack of banking. Most payment processors won't touch it for fear of losing their banking. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

In general the debit cards will be market rate. I've just got a Bitpay debit card and their current exchange rate is £2133.

Preev.com's exchange rate, which is balanced from several sources is £2122.

The next easiest option for a Brit to turn BTC into GBP would be to sell to a Localbitcoins trader by bank transfer. You'd get more selling to the public on there but I wouldn't bother myself.

The current highest price paid by a trader buying off you is £2140. Personally I'd stick with the card for the convenience factor myself.

Keep your bitcoins. Use your Bitcoin balance to link to free giveaway coins.

Stellar is doing a giveaway at the end of this month, Byteball gives free coins based on how many BTC you have, Bitcore does too and I'm sure there are a few others.

Byteball for example with a 20 BTC balance gives you about 1.24 GB of Byteball per month until the distribution ends. That's currently worth about 0.3 BTC. That's completely free. All you have to do is sign your Bitcoin address. There's no risk.

11430  Economy / Speculation / Re: lost btc on: June 13, 2017, 09:29:45 PM
I'd guess that peak lossage occurred 2009-11 due to worthlessness and ignorance and it gradually tailed off after that. However mining rewards were huge and prices were piddling so it could well add up to an actual shitload of coins.

I'd also guess that there will be many, many more non screwed holders now simply because of the weight of numbers, but they may well hold fewer coins in total. If we really knew we might be shocked.
11431  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 13, 2017, 07:37:07 PM
Quite. Block chaining all the things has gone to that other level of the game.

North Korea benefited very nicely from unleashing that ransomware recently so I'm sure there'll be a North Korean ICBM ICO soon. Token holders don't get aimed at.

I get the impression that Mr. Rodman is rather suggestible and would probably turn up to meet the Dear/Great/Eternal leader dressed as a fairy cake if you asked nicely.
11432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: June 13, 2017, 06:11:30 PM

Interesting. Is this the first ICO to go live based on NEM? I seem to remember something about Chronobank but nothing since.

I have extremely mixed feelings about any ICO these days. Their unfettered days are surely numbered.
11433  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 13, 2017, 01:00:58 PM
The question is is bitcoin considered removed enough not to be impacted when it all goes down in flames? I'd like to think yes but the head is saying something else.
11434  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 13, 2017, 11:42:04 AM
hmmm thats a very very deep pond for a little fish

It just goes to show how utterly and fundamentally different that whole project is. I genuinely couldn't give a shit what it gets up to.

He's now Putin's finger puppet so you'd be running a Geiger counter over your cup of tea for the rest of your natural life, which wouldn't be very long.
11436  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: VERIFICATION taking forever across ALL sites... I just want money in Bitfinex!! on: June 12, 2017, 11:12:51 PM
Have you chased up Bittrex? I was waiting for enhanced verification for a couple of days last week. I sent them a support message and it was sorted about 48 hours later. That's miraculous compared to Poloniex.

And do you need to be verified for crypto only for Bitfinex? I thought that was only needed if withdrawing or depositing USD which isn't possible anyway unless you're in Taiwan.
11437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: It does appear.. ETH will 10 fold BTC market cap with in the year... on: June 12, 2017, 11:00:50 PM
Half a trillion dollars or so of pure hot air? I'd be rather more worried about climate change than my Bitcoin withering.
11438  Economy / Speculation / Re: Australia accepting bitcoin and SegWit from 1st of August on: June 12, 2017, 10:53:53 PM
Eh?

As far as I know the only thing that might be changing is Australia taxing Bitcoin sensibly. Before that it had a ludicrous VAT thing.

It's not going to make much difference in the short term but it's all positive.
11439  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin Mines in Chinese Province Sichuan Allegedly Forced to Shut Down on: June 12, 2017, 10:20:55 PM
I seem to remember rumblings about miners not buying electricity via the formal routes being shut down in the past.

Anyway, considering what they did to exchanges this should come as no surprise. Miners are effectively printing money. The Chinese government is going to have something to say about that considering they've come heavily down on its buying and selling. I expect plenty more of this.

If Chinese mining is either regulated to death or becomes so government controlled that the rest of the network wants nothing to do with it that can only be good news for the rest of us.
11440  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Is Freewallet.org legit? How can the owners be reached? on: June 12, 2017, 07:59:25 PM
In all my years I've never heard of it. And there's well and truly no excuse not to have control over your private keys any more.

One page of googling throws up plenty of scam accusations, but that's par for the course.

Does it give any information on fees? A lot of these places pay no attention to them so a 24 hr delay is very possible.

If he does get access again then empty it and use one of the numerous options that do give you control.
