I disagree that they can be anonymous. Before maybe they can get away with it or maybe if the project has no premine, announced correctly so that everyone will have enough information on how to mine and the code is open source right from day 1 of development. But now if you are having an ICO and ask the people for their money then it is required that you give them your full name and credentials and where you live. Good answer. Yes if you look at the altcoins listed in the different exchanges many of them are not very relevant. The Ethereum fork will undergo the same process and will just be there for a while until it is forgotten. Or as what I have been saying there will be a mining arms race with ETC vs ETH and the loser will end up dying because it will not be the longest chain.
