11501  Other / Politics & Society / Re: North Korea fires four ballistic missiles into sea, angering Japan and South on: March 09, 2017, 12:30:43 PM
North Korea fired four ballistic missiles into the sea off Japan's northwest on Monday, angering South Korea and Japan, days after it promised retaliation over U.S.-South Korea military drills it sees as a preparation for war.

South Korea's military said the missiles were unlikely to have been intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), which can reach the United States. The missiles flew on average 1,000 km (620 miles) and reached a height of 260 km (160 miles).

Some of the missiles landed in waters as close as 300 km (190 miles) from Japan's northwest coast, Japan's Defence Minister Tomomi Inada said in Tokyo.

Looks like North Korea is provoking again.

As to what is the reason behind that firing of ballistic missiles into the sea locate at Japan's northwest by the North Korean government still remains a mystery. But one thing is clear South Korea, Japan and America will not rest easy until they placed some security measures and and can be competent that if there will be missile attacks coming from North Korea.

Kim is trying is to practice and see if the ballistic missiles he fired could hit the United States military bases in South Korea. And it looks like Kim is also looking if he can outsmart the latest anti ballistic missiles that US just put on their bases. It just shows how crazy this man is, he is sending message that if they came under attack, he is willing to used those missiles at his disposal to any perceive threat against North Korea.

11502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin ETF Will be Approved Even if SEC Renders no Decision on: March 09, 2017, 09:01:16 AM
There is an interesting article I read saying that if SEC does not necessarily need to renders its decision by March 10 or 13, if they stay silent or did not make any rule, the rule will take effect automatically. To be honest, I'm not well versed on this kind of things so I don't know if this true or not. Maybe someone can shed light on this? He is getting technical on this issue and talking about Securities Exchange Act etc...

11503  Economy / Speculation / Re: It going to hurt..! drop back under 1000$ on: March 09, 2017, 08:07:18 AM
what about a fall under $1000 is hurtful to you, i don't understand!
everything about a price fall is a joyful event for me, because it simply means i can prepare some more fiat and buy more cheap coins and that means making a very easy profit in a very short period of time.
and in the whole world i can't not think of a single person who doesn't like that.
This is hurtful to some investors who bought bitcoin a while ago with a price of higher than 1000usd, but as I can see It will bounce back to $1250 once ETF decision has been made, We are not sure what is behind this price decline but most likely its the ETF.On the contrary this is the best time for others to buy bitcoins while price is not much too high.

Those that pump the price of bitcoin a few weeks ago is has started to pull their investment right now maybe thinking that the ETF will not approve and so protect their investment. I think this is one reason for the price decline. But if you are into bitcoin and not just riding in the hype train, a price drop of $100 is still good for me. And I'm still believe that the price of bitcoin could recover slowly up to the end of the year even if the SEC does not approve of it ETF.

11504  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-03-09]Investors chained to bitcoin bets as US ETF decision looms – Reuters on: March 09, 2017, 06:33:20 AM
Investors are betting market regulators will approve what would be the first U.S. exchange-traded fund to track the price of bitcoin.

From investment funds to wealthy individuals and even a Las Vegas strip club, the bitcoin ETF is generating a lot of buzz for a financial product. The surge in interest in the digital currency is driving upbeat outlooks from several gauges of investor sentiment on the proposed fund. Investors Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have an application with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for the digital currency ETF, which was filed nearly four years ago. The twins are expected to receive by March 13 the final decision on whether they can list their ETF on the Bats Exchange. "We have spoken to a number of our investors, particularly from the U.S., who have indicated to us that they have been buying bitcoin," said Daniel Masters, portfolio manager of Global Advisors Bitcoin Investment Fund Plc.

11505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin value tops gold for first time on: March 09, 2017, 06:27:28 AM
What unit of Bitcoin should be used to make a fair comparison? 1 - Satoshi or 1 Bit or 1 bitcoin? We should first determine what the best measure for comparison should be, before we make that comparison. How many bitcoins are currently available in comparison to the gold that have been mined.

1 troy-ounce = 1 Satoshi ?
1 ingot = 1 bit ?
1 bar = 1 bitcoin ?

People publish these articles and they do not compare apples with apples. ^hmmmmmm^

Comparing the price of bitcoin and gold is unreasonable because gold's market cap is around $7 trillion while bitcoin is only $21 billion. If we do math bitcoin price should be around $450,000 to be the same as gold which is impossible to happen in terms of market cap. So yes, its like comparing apples to oranges. And going back to the topic. this is already old news maybe the writer just stumbled on it a few weeks ago and just decided to write about it.

11506  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-03-08]Investors Who Missed Bitcoin Rally Go for Dash, Ether, Monero on: March 08, 2017, 03:17:13 PM
With bitcoin on a tear, Mira Kwon decided there’s more money to be made elsewhere. A little over a month ago, the University of Maryland economics graduate began pouring more than $2,000 into a different crypto-currency called dash.

“Bitcoin is expensive,” Kwon, a mother, investor, Korean interpreter and U.S. Army veteran, said in a telephone interview. “I think dash has a bigger growth rate.”

So far, it’s worked. Dash has risen to $46 from $15.20 when Kwon started, according to prices at CoinMarketCap. With a market value of $326 million, dash has become the third-largest crypto-currency, behind bitcoin and ether. Other digital currencies are on the move, too, including monero and zcash, to name some of the 700-plus out there. Investors who feel they missed out on bitcoin are seeking a different path to crypto-riches.

11507  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin was a great experiment. We learnt a lot from it. on: March 08, 2017, 01:46:49 PM
I don't understand, why so many threads lately related to Bitcoin beeing dead, doomed, lost, failed experiment etc. What is happening, why such disappointment?
Nothing is perfect and there are some problems and issues with Bitcoin like with everything else, but let's be honest and admit that Bitcoin is great achievement that made a great impact and that will not disappear just like that.

Bitcoin is a great coin, nobody can expect and predict bitcoin can survive until this stage, and I admit there are still flaws in bitcoin, but bitcoin is the pioneer of crypto currency and being used by a lot of people in this world and had helped so many people, we don't need to start over but we can try to fixed it and if you are not satisfied with bitcoin performance there are still so many alt coin ready for you to use

If I may add, up to this point in time, bitcoin had battle and survived. Scalability, competition from other cryptocurrencies, governments among others. We all know that one issue that keeps plaguing us is the block size debate. I will not get into details. I just touch base on it because I believe this is critical if bitcoin will be mass adoption and be used globally and survive.

11508  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price after ETF 2500$? on: March 08, 2017, 01:27:49 PM
Its possible that the bitcoin price would reach $2500 at the end of the year if ETF gets approved. Imagine money is flooding into the bitcoin market. And it looks like the chance of it being approve has improve in the last few weeks so lets just hope for the best. However, I have a feeling that a lot of speculators are pumping the the bitcoin right now, and "might" pull their investment at the end of the week, just to make sure that their investment is protected in Bitcoin ETF is not approved. Anyone of you bailing out?

11509  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduction - Hello from Ireland on: March 08, 2017, 11:48:38 AM
Hello All,

This is actually my second post !

There doesnt seem to be a welcome board here so I thought I would introduce myself.

I live in Ireland and have recently got into Cryptocurrency. My brother has been prompting
me to "invest" as he bought BTC a few years ago. So back in January I made a small
purchase and I have been adding every other week and have a nice LITTLE spread.

I have computer knowledge but not in the programming field! I can do the usual
little jobs, change graphics cards, hard drives blah blah blah......
I also do some Web and Graphic Design.

I have to congratulate both Bitcontalk and its users for a VAST amount of information.
I have been reading on and off for the last 2 months and it hard sometimes to sift
through the conflicting opinions etc.
But overall I an enjoying the learning curve!!

I have a feeling that this year will/may be a big year for cryptocurrencies . . .

A

First off, welcome to our community. It was really nice to hear "newbies" like you joining here and telling a little bit about yourself and how to got started in the bitcoin. And you mentioned that you are investing in bitcoin since January and it looks like the dividends is paying for you. Good to hear that you are enjoying your stay here and learning. It just reminds of myself as well, a lot of information and its hard to digest in the beginning. Just be active here. You can even offer your skills because and earn bitcoins. Goodluck on your endeavors in the crypto world.

11510  Other / Politics & Society / Re: UN drugs board slams killings in Philippines on: March 08, 2017, 08:48:20 AM
Duterte is doing a job no one else had the guts to do.
Fix the country, weed out the corruption and remove and reduce the influence of drug cartels.
The country was far more dangerous with the cartels in operation.
Motorcycle shootings and assassinations were common plus Moro and pre-isis factions in Mindanao.

Shabu shabu and the poverty leading to serious drug addictions which are directly correlated with people having a rough time living in the shanty towns. It is the privileges we take for granted in the West security and safety that are a luxury they do not have.
Rather the people who are rich live in gated communities with security guards, the poor have to make do.
In order to make the country safer a tough hand needs to be played Duterte still has the support for it and for good reason.
http://cnnphilippines.com/news/2017/02/25/president-duterte-support-luneta-davao-cebu.html

I Slam the UN for preaching to the choir this needs to be done for the development of the country.
What they need to do is help support rehabilitation by giving monetary aid and personnel support to reduce the need of imprisoning and killing people instead of treating them.

I kind of like how they made Duterte a playboy though on US TV. No Hillary for president so have the Duterte actor pretend to be attracted to Clinton and harassing Hillary I mean (Madam Secretary) so they can punch Duterte (aka the actor in the face) instead no blatant propagnda here folks  Roll Eyes
http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/03/08/1679085/manila-protests-us-tv-dramas-portrayal-philippine-president

More UN press release coming because the Congress of the Philippines has already passed the Death Penalty restoring it after being suspended in 2006. This is one of Duterte promise once he become President and made sure it was gonna passed. the restoration of capital punishment underlines the Duterte administration’s goal to reduce illegal drug-related criminality.

I'm pretty sure that Human's right group and UN will be once again criticize the President of the Philippines for this.

11511  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The ETF situation is a definition of trading=gambling on: March 08, 2017, 08:27:09 AM
So what we have now is a situation where a dip is expected if X event happens, and a price rally or even massive pump if X event happens...

We only know some odds, which ultimately are not reliable as we have seen in the past with brexit and trump events with odds against those events.

So it's a gamble: ETF or no ETF? sell and buy back cheaper, or hold and see your BTC go $3000?

I have no idea, it all comes down to luck, so good luck to you (and to me)

This is just speculation and can't be considered as gambling IMHO. Because you are just anticipating the future price of bitcoin once the ETF is approve or not by SEC.

Quote
So what we have now is a situation where a dip is expected if X event happens, and a price rally or even massive pump if X event happens...

So we are all speculators here because we are trying to forecast based on our own experience, of the situation

Edit:

Speculation
Speculation involves calculating risk and conducting research before entering a financial transaction. A speculator buys or sells assets in hopes of having a bigger potential gain than the amount he risks. A speculator takes risks and knows that the more risk he assumes, in theory, the higher his potential gain. However, he also knows that he may lose more than his potential gain.

Gambling
Converse to speculation, gambling involves a game of chance. Generally, the odds are stacked against gamblers. When gambling, the probability of losing an investment is usually higher than the probability of winning more than the investment. In comparison to speculation, gambling has a high risk of losing the investment.

11512  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2016/17 NBA Season on: March 08, 2017, 07:42:11 AM
Damn. Westbrook had another monster game with 58 points. However, Oklahoma suffered its fourth straight losses. The Thunder is still playoff bound but they have fallen to 7th place and if the playoff is tomorrow, they will have a series with San Antonio Spurs, which will be a difficult series for them and probably they will not win. I think its more of their defense that made them lost this game. Westbrook really needs someone to help him in their offense, someone needs to step up to help him carry the scoring load for the team.

11514  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-03-07] Bitcoin plunges sharply and suddenly on: March 07, 2017, 01:56:55 PM

Bitcoin plunged by more than $100 in a matter of minutes on Tuesday morning. The cryptocurrency was down about 1.5% at $1,260 a coin just after 6 a.m. ET before tumbling below $1,160 within 30 minutes. As of 7:12 a.m. ET it was down 5%, or $62, near $1,218 a coin.

While no headlines can be directly tied to the plunge, about two hours earlier a Bloomberg headline cited a People's Bank of China official as suggesting the recent bitcoin regulation wasn't temporary.

The PBOC recently announced it was cracking down on bitcoin trading, and China's largest bitcoin exchanges have since introduced a flat 0.2% fee on each transaction and announced a blockage of withdrawals.

Tuesday's sell-off could also be tied to nervousness over a coming Securities and Exchange Commission ruling. The SEC is expected to issue a ruling on whether it will approve at least one of the three proposed bitcoin-focused exchange-traded funds by a Saturday deadline.

11515  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTC.com Transaction Accelerator on: March 07, 2017, 01:37:51 PM
So is VISA the only option to pay for the service? Not so good

i think it depends, but the other day i wanted to try their service for my .005btc transaction and they did ask me for $6+ so i didn't tried it and I'm not sure if my transaction will be confirmed in the very next block since they claim they are cooperating with other pools
That being said, It seems that the fee is really high. Almost the same amount with the btc that you're sending. I think it's not worth it (just my opinion though). Quite helpful if you really really have an urgent transaction to make, but if not, I'd rather wait.

I almost used this service today, but seeing Visa as option I said "No". I agree with you
saying that you just have to wait if the transaction you are expecting is not urgent.
I guess we all know why this is happening, but spending more just to get your transaction
confirmed doesn't sounds good to me. IHMO. So I went on the next best option which
is viabtc and in about 2 hr my transaction got confirmed. So I guess you need a little patience
and just wait for your transaction to be confirmed.
11516  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How I made my first Million USD on digital currencies on: March 07, 2017, 01:04:24 PM
This is truly an inspiring story on your road to the first Million USD on bitcoin.
Image you started with just $400 and in the following years made in to 1 million.
You overcome losing your ex-boyfriend and put all your energy and time in investing
and with few bumps here and there you were able to turn it to a positive outcome.
I hope you still continue to share your stories here and will follow this thread if
I have doubts and fear to venture out of my comfort zone.
11517  Other / Politics & Society / Philippines slams US drama for president's sexual advance on: March 07, 2017, 08:42:32 AM
Manila on Tuesday "strongly protested" at an American television drama for showing a fictional Philippine president making a sexual advance on the US secretary of state.

In the trailer for the latest edition of "Madam Secretary", the lead character punches "the Philippines' unconventional new president" in the face and gives him a bloody nose in reaction to his unwanted pass.
s
"I clobbered a world leader instead of saving a major regional agreement," the secretary of state says.

The Philippine embassy in Washington released a statement saying it had written to the producers of the show, the CBS network, to urgently request it "take the necessary corrective actions"

Link: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/philippines-slams-us-drama-presidents-sexual-advance-054632540.html

I have never seen the trailer yet but looks like CBS is riding on the popularity of Pres Duterte
to get ratings on their show.
11518  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2016/17 NBA Season on: March 07, 2017, 08:18:14 AM
Philadelphia 76ers 98 - 112 Milwaukee Bucks
Orlando Magic 105 - 113 New York Knicks
Cleveland Cavaliers 98 - 106 Miami Heat
Atlanta Hawks 111 - 119 Golden State Warriors
Detroit Pistons 109 - 95 Chicago Bulls
Memphis Grizzlies 109 - 122 Brooklyn Nets
Charlotte Hornets 100 - 88 Indiana Pacers
San Antonio Spurs 112 - 110 Houston Rockets
Denver Nuggets 108 - 96 Sacramento Kings
Utah Jazz 88 - 83 New Orleans Pelicans
L.A. Clippers 116 - 102 Boston Celtics

Another thriller game between San Antonio and Houston. 8 straight wins now for the Spurs.
Another big game for Leonard offensive and defensive wise. Specially his block on Harden.
Leonard stating his MVP case in this game. As Gasol would put it:

"He contributing on both ends of the floor as opposed to a guy who just scores 30 PPG
and that's it"

But it still probably a toss up between Lebron, Leonard, Westbrook and Harden for the
regular MVP this season.
11519  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What can I do with 0.6BTC? on: March 07, 2017, 07:16:31 AM
Hi

What could I do to get more bitcoins? I have 0.6BTC to invest.

I might want to start trading ..  Huh

Thank you
Shawn

Hold half of it then invest or do trading with the other half. But with trading you need some skills
so know what coins you gonna put your bitcoin. I suggest the alt-coins Etherum or Zcash or maybe
dogecoin. You can search for youtube videos to help you out. But you have to keep in mind that trading
is risky You can also check this link: https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/bitcoin-trading/.
You can also use the search function on this community to look for members who do trading.
And for the other half, just hold on it, at least you have something as a fall back if things didn't
workout for me. Hope this helps.

11520  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold guy Andy Hoffman likes Bitcoin too. Recommended! on: March 07, 2017, 06:20:01 AM
...

Here is a good article from one of the Gold Realm's most outspoken advocates of owning gold, here he writes why he likes BTC even if gold guy Peter Schiff does not:

http://www.24hgold.com/english/news-gold-silver-same-as-it-ever-was-gold-bitcoin-and-rapidly-changing-world.aspx?article=10510119488H11690&redirect=false&contributor=Andy+Hoffman

He notes that gold and BTC are very different, and not investment competitors.

Highly recommended.

Hey, thanks for the share, it was a good read he almost covered all the bitcoin vs gold
discussion arguments here in our community. He even admit the he has holding bitcoin
as well although less than his gold and silver investment. If I may, I like to quote his point:

Which brings me to the point that I, and few others in the Precious Metal world (like Bix Weir and Jeff Berwick) have espoused for some time.  Which is, that whether or not you believe Bitcoin will “succeed” – as a storage of value, a currency of the future, or both – it is decidedly NOT a “competitor” of gold and silver.  To the contrary, they are unquestionably fighting the same fight, against the same monetary “powers that be” that have destroyed the world, and will continue to do so until history’s largest, most destructive fiat Ponzi scheme is inevitably destroyed.

This is so very true. bitcoin and precious metals can actually co-exist without
getting into an argument. Bitcoin can be another investment instruments if you
have golds and silver already in your portfolio.
