1162  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Block Breakers United (Solo Group Mining) on: January 30, 2016, 02:17:18 AM
which group are you primarily trying to fill? .05, .5, 2 BTC? and have any others already contacted you and put their name/btc in?

Starting out, I would like to fill the .05 group. But if people are wanting the higher then I will also do those.
1163  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Block Breakers United (Solo Group Mining) on: January 30, 2016, 02:02:42 AM
in regard to this, when would you be starting these runs? feel free to pm me, i am quite interested.

thx
Once we get 10 people, I will leave it open for a day or two to gather extra people if the group wants that.
1164  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Solo Group Mining on: January 29, 2016, 10:09:17 PM
i hope i got a 0.5btc :3 but i think i can join right? you will mine on may 28 right? so maybe i can gather 0.5 btc at that day Cheesy
If this is successful, I probably will continue it for a while. The poll only is meant to end so that after 120 days I can see the results.

Hey CK, can you give us some blocks rewards?
http://de.ckpool.org/workers/1Q8VghUJkNeFnaKy553b9buUWKxFYL579G_bitcoinlotto1

Hey man, i was just joking. I hoped You could hit the luck  button again Smiley but dont be angry give me You Wallet and i will donate a little bit <<<===

my Girlfriend is rly expensiv and iam just a student.

Thank You
WTF are you talking about? You guys were extremely lucky as it was and were one of the only groups to solve blocks without donating anything back to the pool other than the mandatory fee. What exactly do you want from me?

Chill out, he replied although he mistyped his answer and it was lost in the quote... Smiley

Yep there it is. I had to go back and read through and there it was, but only after CK mentioned how lucky he was to get what he got LOL. It happens I guess. I'm willing to let it slide this time Tongue
Looked like he was asking for donations from me which is the only reason I mentioned the lack of donations. It's entirely up to the miners if they want to donate and I'll be raising the fee as of the start of February.
What will the fee be starting February? 1%, 2%?

This no doubt is coming from a reputable forum member, can some one please check if this account password have been changed lately.

Checked . No changes with the account password recently.
Great then, how long will 0.5 BTC gets a little over 100TH run, i can see 24 hours.
At 0.0045 per TH its 111TH for 24hours.
At 0.0047 per TH its 106TH for 24hours.
At 0.0048 per TH its 104TH for 24hours.

I'm just going to drop this here if anyone is interested.
I wanted to do this service because many people are starting these groups, and I wouldn't want to see anyone get burned.

I can provide signed messages as far back as my first trades, but I only recently staked my address in the address staking thread by tomatocage.

I only wanted to offer this because some other pooled funds have come up, and I wouldn't want to see people get burned on it.
1169  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 0.5% fee solo mining USA/DE servers 153 blocks solved! on: January 29, 2016, 06:08:59 PM
Ok guys, what the heck - The guy was joking. Get off his butt.

CK charges a fee. Pay the fee and you're done. Tips are given with a free heart, not because someone pressures you to do it. Tip where you feel led. The end. If CK wanted more money for every block found he'd raise the fee to 5% and since he's the biggest game in town everyone would pay it (as expressed earlier in the thread) and call it good.

But don't jump on the guy for not tipping. Tipping is a gift. Not a tax. It's a PERSONAL choice between CK and the block miner.

I couldn't tell if he was joking or not. Especially with the "WTF" response from CK. If I misunderstood how it was all written then I apologize to both CK and the one who started that section of the conversation. Either way I can also see it as a rubbing it in the face of those of us who haven't hit a block, but now looking at it in different perspectives I guess it can be seen in many different ways. More than anything I'm willing to defend CK just on the fact that the pool has been provided to us and I'm grateful for that alone. I'm sorry to both parties if I saw it in a different light than how it was intended.

I think the problem most users see with this is that it is like winning the bitcoin powerball, four times. That's pretty hard to do. And I believe most people that win the regular US powerball at least donate some money to charity, and family that has helped in their lives.
The only reason we got on this guy is because he is asking for more blocks, without paying back a little extra to -ck. And it would be nice to see people doing kickbacks to -ck, because he has been providing an almost free service to the community which does cost money over time. Although the pool wallet has funds, we just want to see more people have a little heart so that this project can continue for many years to come. Whether block solving rises or falls on this pool. And rereading your quote about the fees, that's the whole reason why fees get to be low is because the extra income for the pool really helps it have a cushion for the future solo miners.

I'm not trying to bash you, I'm just trying to state the other side of the argument.

Edit: Looks like the original guy retracted his statement.
1170  Economy / Games and rounds / (CLOSED)[Solo Group Mining] Block Breakers United on: January 29, 2016, 05:58:23 PM
=============
====Objective===
=============
To pool money together to solo mine blocks as a group.

I collect money to rent mining rigs from nicehash, then I point them at http://solo.ckpool.org/ and hope we find a block.

You may get money back, and you may not get money back. It all depends on if we find a block or not. If we do find a block we will divide the block up and give each person that bought in the exact same amount. If not, you will receive nothing back. Invest / Gamble at your own risk

If you would like to withhold some funds as a donation to -ck for running his pool and being a great developer in the community. I will hold it and create a transaction including everyone's donations and post on -ck's thread that will include everyone that chooses to donate.

If anyone was interested in this idea, I wouldn't mind running it for free.

thought after 3 blocks they would give you a lill extra than the stranded fee tbh if that was me id be giving a lot more than the mandatory fee
4 blocks in total to date have been mined to that address with solo.

Disgusting ...
Wow that is sad, at least throw the guy a bone for running a service that got you tons of money, or roughly $25k-$30k
1172  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Bitcoin mining in testnet on: January 29, 2016, 09:40:01 AM
I've decided to give a try to cpuminer 2.4.3 and in console output I see 8 threads running with hashrate of 1875 khash/s each.
What are my chances in this configuration?
Any comments welcomed.

Thanks.
You will almost never mine a block on the main network. Unless you somehow live for a million plus years. Or you could be EXTREMELY lucky.

The network is 936,068,808 GH/s = 936,068,808,000,000 KH/s

Code:
Chances of a Block:     1875 / 936,068,808,000,000 = 0.000000000002% chance
Chances of Winning the Powerball:  1 / 292,201,338 = 0.000000003% chance

If your assignment is mine bitcoins from "nowhere" you should mine with a pool, it is the only way you can generate coins. In a week you'll have the dust amount of 0.00000005, which is five satoshis.

Or find an altcoin that is CPU only to mine crypto from nowhere.
Thanks for feedback - very informative.
But you are referring to MAINNET, right?
This thread is about BITCOIN mining in TESTNET and I would appreciate I you could provide me some info about that (if you posses any):
- chances of block?
- are there any active testnet pools?
- considering the hardware I mentioned in first post, better CPU or GPU for mining?

BTW, my experiment with cpuminer 2.4.3 solo mining failed... Left it for a night and it consumed all the memory, including 4GB swap.
Your gpu looks like it would do 120kh/s based on the bitcoin wiki.

Looks like here is some information for the testenet: https://www.biteasy.com/testnet/blocks/000000000000402c3d7403c011b1b72a778fb0a753ebe3e5a9126abdb2f65b86

testnet pools? I have no idea, the only one I knew about was ck's but sounds like it has been shut down for a while.

But, looking at some ancient posts you could try running your own testnet and mine coins
There is no purpose to mining Testnet.  Please don't.

If you need to "Test a mining rig", then use Testnet in a Box (http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitcoin/files/Bitcoin/testnet-in-a-box/).

Testnet-in-a-Box has multiple advantages over the real Testnet:

1)  The difficulty is 1, so you find blocks almost immediately.
2)  It makes sure you don't impact either the Bitcoin network or the actual Testnet
3)  It has all of the same advantages as the real Testnet.

I use Testnet-in-a-Box to actually test my mining pools, so I can verify payouts are working, shares are being handed out, etc.

I don't have to compete against anyone else, so it's perfect for doing my own development.

1174  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newb wanting to Start Mining Small on: January 29, 2016, 07:56:52 AM
Yes I heard about the raspberry pi 2 mining rigs. And I was thinking about doing something like that since there's not much support for the Mac out there. I figure I can hook it up to the television and just let it run constantly with the fan blowing on it. Does that sound like a good way to get into it for starter?

How's this look for a raspberry pi 2 mini mining rig

CanaKit Raspberry Pi 2 Ultimate Starter Kit with WiFi

Sabrent 13 Port High Speed USB 2.0 Hub with Power Adapter And 2 Control Switches (HB-U14P)

ARCTIC Breeze Mobile, USB-Powered 92mm Portable Fan, Portable Cooling Solution, Quiet Fan, Mini USB Fan, Mini Gooseneck Fan for laptop and PC - White

You should probably get a more powerful USB hub, I remember there being a thread around here somewhere. The hub you're looking at only supports 1.5W per port, which can get you the 8GH from a stick, or get a more powerful hub that can get you up to 20-30GH a stick. USB 3.0 offers 4.5W per port. USB 2.0 offers 1.5W per port.

Some information that may be useful if you are trying to get higher hashrates.

===============
=Expected Performance=
===============
The expected performance of the chip is 0.055*MHz=GH.  For example, 200MHz gives 11 GH (max theoretical expectation).

========
=Hardware=
========
The hardware that you need to run the compac is no more than any computer with an open, powered USB 2.0 port.  On stock USB power you may be able to run the miner as high as 150MHz, though the 137 setpoint is more likely- actual power consumption would depend on how low the voltage on a stick would go stably. If you have a USB 3.0 port that provides 900mA instead of the 500mA provided by USB 2.0 and you will be able to set the clock higher.  If you wish to run several sticks at once you should probably acquire a powered hub.  You can run the miner at reasonable but fairly low speed off of 2.5W per stick, so to figure how many sticks you can run you should find the power of the hub as (voltage)*(current)=power.

It is not advised to run over 1.5A of current in per stick, as this is the max the USB jack is rated for.  In testing there were no problems with it handling current up to 2.5A but unless you're keeping a close eye on it you should try not to burn down your house.

======
=Cooling=
======
If you run the miners over about 150MHz it is strongly advised to cool them with a fan.  The cooling requirements are fairly low and unless you're trying to run 400MHz or above almost any fan at all will do.

1175  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What's the latest Mining trend? on: January 29, 2016, 07:42:57 AM
We'll probably end up as more than 80% commercialized mining here as it gets harder for little guys to do at home mining. If you consider that like a technology, reducing your power bills to increase profitability.

21inc will probably stay on their developmental hardware.
Bitfury will continue to cater to investors.
Spondoolies will continue to cater to investors.
Bitmain will continue selling to the public.
Sidehack will continue to use Bitmain chips to try and create awesome miners for the community.

That's pretty much a rundown of whats up I think.
1176  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 21 Bitcoin Computer on: January 28, 2016, 07:27:43 PM
I like the idea of it. I think it's great that stuff like this is available. The people who are gonna buy it will be sharp enough to make their own ones so it does seem pointless. I don't read much about it on here. Are many people actively tinkering away with one of them?
You might be right with that, but think of some of the larger companies that would not want to dedicate additional resources to building their own. Yes a tinkerer might do this but a corporation or larger company would rather pay a premium for it to be all right there in front of them with no additional expenditure required. For $400 they can buy a ready to go machine on Amazon and have a coder start working on the code, or they could pay a programmer, buy all the individual pieces, pay someone to put it all together then start coding.

Fair enough, I hadn't looked at it like that. And I believe 21 Bitcoin caters to investors and sort, so more commercialized and reaching for large businesses, rather than consumers. But at least they offer this to consumers.

I'm not sure you thought your statement through isvicre and i hope you don't judge from yourself on others. I surely have no price. Maybe others can live happily after scamming others but i certainly would not be able to.
You just have to hope that people actually have morals. Sure there have been cases like master-p, but many are here to help build the Bitcoin community. And that's what we should work towards, a trusted community.
I hate all these shill scamming accounts I see. I made the mistake of endorsing a guy that ran off with 0.05 of another guy's money. Guess I should stay away from digital goods..

Maybe make more joke posts as an "EDU" to sections of the forum, like this one:

There are people that have tinkered with them, but OregonMines has it spot on:

This is not what the 21Co Bitcoin computer is for.
The purpose of it is for backend software, it just happens to also mine Bitcoin for development purposes so you can test your code.

Honestly it is a R-pi with a cool chip on it. I run a R-pi with USB miners and a computer with a full node. Currently over 60GB. I bet you could setup an R-PI with a hard drive or something and run a full node for less than $100. (R-Pi $30, 1TB HDD $50, USB to Sata $15)
