Bullet runs that result in nothing, drop dead dates that turn out to be fuzzy, flawed chips that need clock buffers but aren't flawed, FCC submissions that don't exist, etc...
Shhh!! SHhhhh!

Don't point out the "contradictions" and "inconsistencies". It makes him very angry.

Just look his way, pat him on the back and say he's doing a wonderful job. Actually, I bet his inbox is just chalk full of pleased customers. They are thee most patient in the world....!

Well, actually that may be a lie. I saw several posts where even the hardcore supporters are calling for people to bail in about...14 days if there is another delay. But....uh....ignore that..."reality".

I am sure Josh has magical fairy dust to sprinkle on the angry customers so they become very passive. I am sure it came with the unicorn blood he is always talking about?

------------------------

God, I just realized I hate railing against Josh, it is incredibly pathetic to beat this dead horse anymore.

I would ask D3 to lock this thread again, but then someone would have to say something super ridiculous to make it justifiable. Where is Friz when you need him? Wink

I can't come to your rescue, for I'm on a self-imposed truce. In fact, I'm going to PM josh for his confidential opinion on something. I'll be sending out the same request to a select few others, but when I start, Josh will receive the first PM.

Although I won't condemn nor condone what's happening at the BFL camp, I'll still be watching events unfold, and will only reenter the discussion after Jody's chickens fail to come home to roost. (damn, I'm goin' to miss commenting on this thread)

Full disclosure: If I do see something that needs my attention, I will PM a member or two my findings so that they will present it, as I've done so a couple times in the past.

<snip>

Matthew was a bit like the Energiser bunny on amphetamines at times.  While he had some level of involvement in a lot of projects, he was often impulsive and his responses weren't always measured.  His energy could be very scattered and divided at times and he's not the only high profile person in this community of whom that's true.  Visibility and "busy-ness" are not the same as effectiveness.  Matthew certainly had a "big" reputation, but it wasn't necessarily a primarily positive one.

I can easily fall into this camp (see text in bold above), but I'll blame running a RL viable enterprise that provides the necessary livelihood for my family.

Full disclosure, in case the above included me in quoted statement.

Excellent post!

June, may 2013 be an august year, sans the April storms, for you and all of us here, as we march forward.

Happy new year etc...

BTW, Mr Gage, you've been in the news in 2012 : http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/05/120516195408.htm , just sayin'

I especially like this quote:  Grin

hi, we have any winner ?

Not yet, luicon. Allow me to run this another week, for I desire to see at least two more entries. See Post #2 of this thread to view all the submissions.

Feel free to submit any entries with slightly more than 14 words, albeit they may be given less consideration. The key is grammar and the ability to express what is Bitcoin in as few words as possible.

Thanks for the explanation guys. It is an interesting story, specially of we the newbies, to learn to don't trust anyone. Where can I find more threads about this? Is this guy mental? I did get the point when some people said "he isn't a common scammer". If he stole many bitcoins just "for fun", I think he became rich anyway. It's a very funny joke to the scammer, sure.  Grin  and a sad story to the victims.

I lost 286 USD to a scammer and I am totally hopeless.  Undecided

I found a nice quote from a thread that might be what you're looking for: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=28004.msg373379#msg373379

I could have quoted it, but opted to supply it this way.

Thank you, psy. I've updated the list in the OP and soon Rassah will adjust his ledger.

We are still shy, thus needing a few more donations for MY Refuge House.

At least take a look at the page I linked to and see how easy BitPay has made it for NPOs to donate for all those who've implemented a Bitcoin donation option onto their websites. Smooth!

11709  Other / Off-topic / Re: Some bastard stole my idea! on: December 31, 2012, 05:31:09 PM
You think your idea was worth something? I've seen a lot of folks here who think their ideas are worth something and get quite vehement at any suggestion of giving their ideas away for free. Well here's some bad news from the real world, practically all of those ideas are worth sweet FA, nada, not a god damn thing and if you don't believe that then just try selling them. It doesn't take long, just call up a few companies it could be useful to and try and arrange an appointment to present it to them and 9 times out of 10 they will laugh at you. Dig a little deeper and you'll find most industries are flooded with great ideas and they can get more anytime for little or nothing.

So why aren't they using them? Because some bastard with a patent portfolio will jump out of the bushes and ambush them if they make anything out of it claiming that idea is theirs and they're owed money for it. Patents have nothing to do with encouraging innovation, quite the opposite in fact. If you want to innovate you must join the patent club and if you can afford the membership then for your money you get.... nothing. Oops, my bad, you get the right to try and defend yourself in any battle over ownership of an idea, in other words you get to play the "who has the most money to pay the lawyers" game.

Even if an idea is both genuinely innovative and safe from the patent trolls its still missing the vital ingredient that makes it worth something, it needs to exist. Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door, design a better mousetrap and tell the world it must pay to see what you've designed and the world will just ignore you and keep using the old mousetraps.

Sorry for the rant, I have piles of good ideas here that just add to the mountains of unused ideas that never see the light of day and there are some real gems in those troll infested mountains. Some really nice work in the OP, there are some really talented folks in the world and the places that have nothing and have to make what they can from it seem to get more of them.

Great post! I do hope that you knew that the OP was in jest, albeit I have envisioned such an orchestra/ensemble a couple/three years ago, but have yet to do anything with it with the exception of maintaining a viable domain name. Also, my idea would not have the instruments look so crude, coupled with the musicians have to build their own instruments with their own hands, as well as being able to play proficiently.

11710  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Try out "Memory Key" - a tool to help generate passwords (suitable for all ages) on: December 31, 2012, 05:06:01 PM
Another example, with the results after the equal sign (=) and in bold would be mine.

GENDER = M
NUMBER of Children and their sex = 3G2B (2 by marriage, 3 via Oops!)
ADDRESS (# + 1st Letter) = 406W
SS1 or SS1R (R=reversed) (the first 3 digits of a US SS #)
SS2 or SS2R (R=reversed) (the middle 2 digits of a US SS #) SS2R = 27
SS3 or SS3R (R=reversed) (the last 4 digits of a US SS #)
Birthday (using the first letter of the month and no 0's with exception of the year available in various formats for other countries) = M41960
BIBLE Verse = J11 (John 1:1)
YOUR Initials = BKJ (J = Jr.)

Thus, mine would be M3G2B406W27M41960J11BKJ

The only problem I foresee is that it will scare the fuck out of Rassah when so much money starts showing up on the books.

I deal with tens of millions of dollars every day at my job, and sign off on checks for hundreds of  thousands of dollars, so it's all just numbers to me at this point.

My humorous remark was in reference to something I guess I misinterpreted/misread/misremembered. Upon hunting that something you penned in this thread last year, the closest post I found doesn't now ring true, therefore ignore my rambling.

Now onto addressing giszmo's post: (scroll up a couple posts to view it in proper context)

Quote
Oh, well, sort of. I just don't quite agree with it. I would prefer to see a rather short term goal at which point you, Rassah and all the BTC100 can call it a win and focus on other projects. I consider BTC100 slightly inefficient for all the money spent. I mean I also spent 1BTC towards BUND Berlin but BUND Berlin as the 5th(?) organization to receive $1300? I mean with that amount of money you could do a lot more good for BTC and I would be sad seeing the same amount of money goingt to BUND Munich, BUND Hannover, BUND Köln, etc. We should focus on more valuable multipliers. In this class off NPOs there is literally millions of organizations in the world.

Bund was the third NPO and the only one that received $1,300 USD. The first two were GBSI and kenija2012, both receiving less than that amount due to the exchange rate at the time.

You are correct that it would not be prudent for Bitcoin 100 to give BUND Munich, BUND Hannover or BUND Köln the same consideration.

$1,300 USD could possibly be put to better use short term, but drawing a correlation between this and CoinLab overpaying for a goat with their current donation model, both of our entities needed to start somewhere while Bitcoin is still at its nascent stage of development while building mind share.

That said, let's consider it a win at 10 NPOs using the current structure, and maxing the subsequent donations at $1,000 USD, unless some NPO currently being courted comes forward, then the entire BTC100 will be honored. With this schedule, at the end of funding the finale NPO, the balance at Bitcoin 100 will be zero (0), albeit micro fund drives will still be needed as the remaining NPOs manifest themselves.

By no means will Bitcoin 100's work would have been done in vain, for its achievements will be used to jump-start a newly named entity, one of which will be registered as a 501c(3). The main reason for a name change is that incorporating the word Bitcoin into the name of an entity designed purposely as a charitable organization seems counter-productive. We don't see a PayPal Charity, Dollar Charity, Dwollar Charity, etc., but if we did, such entities wouldn't pass the smell test in the real world, although they may do okay as micro-niches. As it stands now, Bitcoin 100 falls into said category, and a grander charitable organization to further the Bitcoin ideal is warranted.

At 53 (minus 60+ days), I'm dedicating the rest of my life toward such a endeavor. At 10,000 posts (minus 97), it's time to get down to business regarding Bitcoin. That said, I'm going to PM a select few to get their opinions on a name I have in mind, starting with Josh at BFL. I would trust that done of them would register the valuable (I believe) domain name during the opinion seeking stage. The following are names I will be sending a PM to, with the possibility of a few others:

Josh at BFL
Rassah
Roger Ver
Tony at BitPay
Edd
Theymos and some of his Motley Crew mods.  Grin
Yankee
Those at The Bitcoin Foundation

(heck with the list, for you get the idea, and I'll use the Bitcoin 100 list of members for further consideration)

To be clear, nothing is currently changing at Bitcoin 100, and the continuing support is still needed. In essence, we would only be looking at a name change and, more importantly, how this viable charitable organization will better humanity through the use of Bitcoin.

Their site is hosted here:
http://www.1and1.com/

Sometimes hosting companies have a terms of service and you can get sites taken down for breaking them. I don't see anything obvious and don't have the time to look right now.

Interesting how their certificate is a 3 year but they only registered the domain on Dec. 13th for 2 years.

Possibly to justify their upcoming 5 year guarantee: 2 X 3 = 5.  Roll Eyes
