Why change Ticker symbol?
There is some standard that non-national currencies start with X. Thus bitcoin sometimes uses XBT, although BTC is also popular. I expect MRO to retain some unofficial use for a while.

Hi, are there any exchanges currently accepting XMR? Looks like all suddenly stopped dealing with XMR - but why?
They just moved it. Previously was listed under MRO

My comment was not so much directed at the claim window as the stated intent to exclude possibly lost coins.
As for the claim window, I continue to believe it is redistributionary in a way that is fundamentally incompatible with the original proposal especially with respect to btc specifically as the parent (due to satoshis coins though of course not exclusively that). However elegant d&t's approach might be, it is an elegant solution to a different problem.

In the short run, a self moderated thread might seem a good thing to do, with not as much active posters. In the long term however, it'll backfire on you, as users would complain(even lie), that you deleted their posts, or how the thread is unfair because criticism gets deleted etc etc. In the eye of newbies, it would also seem suspicious(in the long run) to have a self moderated thread run by one of Monero's Core team, they would feel that you have something to hide and that would lead to assumptions, and eventually accusations.
Obviously you have strong opinions on the matter. The best way for you to influence things is to stop posting irrelevant crap on the thread and stop responding when others do so.

I voted yes.
It's bad enough to have the 'lost coins' issue with Bitcoin, where investors never know whether those ancient coins are dead or just resting. I don't want to import dead coins and lost keys into an altchain.
Then by Peter R's definition it isn't a spin-off. Right or wrong you are making a value judgement giving your alt coin having a "better" initial distribution than BTC.

Anyone else seeing pretty much a 1:1 parity with investment on hardware / running costs / mining speeds with the GPU miner? Maybe a little edge on CPU, but the gap is so close.
That's incredible.
Yes, everyone has reported hashrates that would make it 1:1. Although the GPU miner might still have more optimizations to come.. I would imagine both platforms have optimizations to come. Not only the hashrate .. I measured TDP and looked up the purchasing cost too. All pretty close to 1:1 Isn't AMD moving toward APU's? http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/processors/desktop/a-series-apu#Everyone is moving toward APUs, whether they call it that or not. GPUs are becoming more like CPUs and CPUs are becoming more like GPUs. They are all just computers, and most applications have some elements of parallel and serial workloads. It has been happening for some time and will continue. It is indeed very impressive that this is the first CPU coin to survive even the first GPU implementation with CPU mining intact.

No need for a self-moderated thread. I like the fact that trolls keep this ANN topic bumped to the front page. More or less all altcoin threads are a mess and their only utility is to raise awareness -- the trolls ironically assist with that. In time there will be a separate forum for serious discussion.
Good point (bump!)

WTF is your problem, this is not a MYR thread, we don't care, please go away.
This. i don't understand why the original post was even made. It has no relationship to Monero at all. This is not a spam thread. If it persists we will have to switch to self-moderated. Nobody wants that but irrelevant spam and two pages of posts responding to spam can't be allowed to continue. Making a self moderated thread for this coin would be the dumbest thing you can possibly do. As soon as you make that self moderated thread, there'll be others making a unmoderated thread to voice their biased opinions, just because you made a self moderated thread.... Not to mention it makes it seem as if the coin is ruled by you, as you decide who has a say on the thread and who doesn't. While you may be an open person that allows others to voice their opinions, a self moderated thread would make it seem the exact opposite. All opinions on Monero are welcome and even encouraged, including negative ones. Off topic spam posts are not welcome. Even with a self-moderated thread there are mirror sites where one can see what was deleted. Only off topic spam posts would ever be deleted, not on-topic but critical ones. There is no issue of transparency or suppressing opposing views. As I said it is not my first choice but it is not acceptable to have pages and pages of off topic noise that makes this thread unworkable as a Monero thread for people who are actually interested in Monero and especially people looking for help with Monero.

It's a pity that I haven't seen that coin before its launch.. Do you think it is still possible to mine many Moneros as a single miner?
That depends what you mean by many. If this coin is very successful and goes up greatly in value, then whatever you can mine now will be worth a lot, and will seem like a lot compared to what people are mining in a few years. Similar to mining bitcoin in say 2011. Only about 6% of the target supply has been mined. On the assumption that the coin is successful it is not even remotely too late (and if not then it doesn't matter). This is not a premined or instamined coin.

Cryptonote Exchange, can't you just enable Payment ID for all so that we can get the coins out??
There is no payment id feature in the code. He's doing them manually which is why he doesn't want to have to deal with 700 manual payouts. If he did, you would likely have to wait a very long time for your coins.

1. Did the withdraw on crypto go through? If not you can probably still cancel it.
2. Open a ticket with poloniex and explain what you did, with exact amounts and when the transfer was made. They may help you. Be warned though, they're support is not always very fast to respond. I've been waiting since yesterday on a failed withdraw issue.
Thanks to all who replied. I'll open a ticket on Poloniex (if I can find the link). Is there a Mac GUI wallet ? I can't seem to find one. Snookered: - can't withdraw to Poloniex (crypto note doesn't support the Payment ID - can't withdraw to Wallet (no Mac GUI) What do I try next. Bittrex ? Every exchange will require a payment ID. There is no GUI wallet, but I think there is a Mac command line wallet.

I just transferred some Monero out of crypto note to Poloniex without reading the small print about using the payment ID.
What does this mean. have I lost my coins ?

So IRS says Bitcoin is property in black and white but when you inject a little color into them they've gone full circle from currency to shares?
Ignoring that the IRS and SEC don't have to use the same interpretation to enforce different laws, this statement makes zero logical sense since shares considered property by the IRS. The rules they apply to bitcoin are the same rules they apply to stocks.

That's not broken, it just means you have tiny payments in your wallet. Needs to be fixed by the pools to send non-dust payments.

Does anyone know if the BBR or MRO GUI wallet is closer to release?
Wait a sec... XMR? What happened to MRO?
XMR is now the "official" symbol. MRO is still widely used.
