11781  Economy / Economics / Re: High prices mean even higher volatility on: January 15, 2021, 03:30:13 AM
That's what the theory says

Both the rise and the fall are driven by institutional money going in and out of the market. Simple folks don't actively sell but they still accumulate religiously on pullbacks. This leads to an ever decreasing supply side because the number of bitcoins cannot significantly increase as there are only so many bitcoins (as opposed to, for example, gold, which supply is elastic). As a result, volatility is set to outrun the rise in prices, and this is exactly what we see happening right now. Eventually, the Bitcoin Big Rip event should occur (at least hypothetically)

Right now it is the institutions that are mopping up whatever supply there is in the market. And since these institutions have just made their investment, we can expect them to hold on to their coins at least for the next 12-18 months. A lot of the individual users are also holding on to their coins, as they are targeting six-digit exchange rates. Obviously this will lead to a decline in trade volumes, and the liquidity will decline as a result.
11782  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much btc do you need to secure your future? on: January 15, 2021, 03:20:04 AM
just little remark - you can live the life of your dreams without any BTC, be honest - its not necessary to become millionaire to be happy.

Completely agreed with this. It depends on what are your ambitions and where you reside. If you want a private island with your own private yacht, then you need at least a few tens of millions (USD off course, and not BTC). On the other hand, if you want to retire to a small villa in some expat community in Thailand or Costa Rica, then all you need is a small fraction of the above mentioned amount.
11783  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: January 15, 2021, 03:10:13 AM
Its not easy for Sangakkara to next president of ICC and its also too early talk about this all he need some good time and good favour of big 3 which is not easy because here most of boards are fighting for their own sack and they will never allow person like this to be in line of this place but if he will able then surely its could be great for game of cricket.

That's true. The businessmen/politician gang (including people like  Giles Clarke, N Srinivasan and Wally Edwards) have held power for so long and they will not give up their control that easily. If they do that, then their relevance will end completely. Even recently, BCCI was controlled by Srinivasan, before Ganguly became the president with the support from the ruling party. But ECB and CA are still controlled by the businessmen, along with NZC.
11784  Economy / Economics / Re: The sale of the COVID-19 vaccine on the dark web continues. on: January 15, 2021, 03:00:06 AM
Not only a mistake but simply a suicide on entrusting up your life into something which is unknown or not being registered yet to be legit.Dealing with things in dark web is
already implies as shady as hell.

What the heck on having that price of 1k usd? you dont even sure if those do came from legit sources and cant just believe that there are still people who do buy
out of these vaccines. Are they out of their minds?

If sales do still continue which means theres a demand. Desperation do really end up on these foolish actions.

Well.. there is no doubt that purchasing medications from the dark web is risky as hell. But a lot of people use dark web platforms to source various expensive medications at cheaper rates. Check this:

https://www.vocativ.com/culture/health-culture/drugs-online/index.html

But then, purchasing vaccines, which require deep-freezing from the dark market involves more than the usual amount of risk. In most cases, the vendor is either going to vanish with your money, or he will send you a placebo.
11785  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - February 20 on: January 15, 2021, 02:49:47 AM
Still very expensive, this is just an exhibition fight, Logan Paul is not a known boxer, I really doubt they'll get their target sales here.

No doubt about that. The Logan Paul vs Olajide Olayinka Williams (KSI) match was priced at £7.50 in the United Kingdom and $9.99 in the United States. This one is also an exhibition match, and it is priced at manytimes that amount. I agree that Mayweather still commands a sizable fan following, but charging this much for a match involving an amateur is a bit unfair in my opinion.
11786  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 15, 2021, 02:39:15 AM
Excited to see Thangarasu Natarajan making his test debut. Always thought that he has the potential to become a permanent member of the national squad. And the openers failed once again for Australia. Both David Warner and Marcus Harris failed to get to double digits. And as usual, it is left to the pair of Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith to rescue the team. The 3rd wicket partnership has made 48 runs till now.
11787  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: again a Bitcoin millionaire who forgot his password on: January 14, 2021, 04:35:57 AM
Very unfortunate, but what can you do? Stupidity is a part of our nature is it not?

If it was one of my friends I'd tell them to get a brain surgery or something. It's one thing to forget a password and another not to have it written somewhere. He's an idiot for holding all his coins in one place and not even remembering a password. Like what more important things do you have to remember than a password to your 200 million dollar wallet?

LOL.. he is having difficulty in remembering one password, and you are recommending him to have multiple wallets and separate passwords for all of them? To be fair, he received the coins in 2011, when the exchange rate was like $0.10 per coin. No one really expected Bitcoin to rise by 400,000x in just one decade. You may hear similar stories from a lot of users, who received their coins in 2011 and 2012.
11788  Economy / Economics / Re: Warren Buffett & "Rat Poison" on: January 14, 2021, 04:25:16 AM
Most people who are successful and old age are difficult to accept new things, maybe that's what happened to Warren Buffett. But I can understand
why not everyone accepts Bitcoin, because not everyone understands Bitcoin. Maybe Buffett has a hard time understanding Bitcoin, so he's not
interested in investing in something he simply doesn't understand. But what pissed me off against Warren Buffett are some of his pretty harsh
words against Bitcoin, which makes me as a Bitcoin believer quite hurt to hear it. Buffett shouldn't have said such harsh things if he really didn't
like Bitcoin.

It doesn't matter whether they are successful or not. Old people have an aversion to new technology. A few years back, while trying to popularize Bitcoin I found out that the elderly are the lest interested in new innovations such as Bitcoin. The younger people were at least ready to listen, but most of the oldies would drop out of the conversation within one or two minutes. Mr. Buffet is 90 years old, and I don't really expect him to approve new technology.
11789  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two attempts for $220 million on: January 14, 2021, 04:14:58 AM
Funds protected by a memorized password can only be robbed by way of violence, but only if the person who holds the password and the funds is identified. But the probability of getting betrayed by your very own memory is very high. Such is the risk which is not worth taking.

We already have dozens of examples for the first part. Every now and then, I am hearing reports about cryptocurrency holders getting kidnapped by criminal gangs and then tortured to reveal their passwords. Even here in India, there was a well known incident last year:

https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/man-killed-after-being-tortured-for-days-over-bitcoins/story-A18ipLTQCrlFphgBPYHxoI.html

And with the exchange rates increasing at such a rapid pace, I am worried that we may witness many such incidents in the near future. Only way to protect yourself is not to reveal about the coin holdings to anyone else.
11790  Economy / Economics / Re: IF USDT would collapse what do you think will happen to the BTC price? on: January 14, 2021, 04:03:49 AM
The huge market cap of USDT should be the least of our worries, USDT has the combined volume of BTC and ETH, that should tell you how big it is and t makes sense, when people sell their crypto ideally they will like their fiat to go to their bank accounts, but with banks flagging and closing those accounts and taking days to get your money back to exchanges in which you can miss a big movement people prefer to use USDT instead so they can always jump back in the market and without it we will lose the best source of liquidity we have.

For me, it is the market cap that is the primary concern. USDT was originally designed to act as an intermediate medium for trading, and therefore it is expected that the trade volumes would be higher. As the volatility increased, a lot of people were storing a part of their wealth in the form of stablecoins. And this is the most risky part. Storing your wealth in USDT is just like storing your cryptocurrency in an exchange wallet.
11791  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: January 14, 2021, 03:52:16 AM
I did not mean that Sachin or Ponting should be given the responsibility of the president of ICC. I have shown them as an example. If a respected former cricketer like them takes charge of the ICC, the overall development of the ICC will be achieved, I wanted to means this. It could be Sourav Ganguly or Kumar Sangakara. But that person must be a former and respected player. Who has received the love of many people. I also think that Saurav or Sangakkara is the right person to serve as the president of the ICC.

I have checked the list of former presidents and chairmen of the ICC. From Narayanaswami Srinivasan to Greg Barclay, all of the chairmen were businessmen, with no relation with cricket. And talking about the ICC presidents, only three out of the 12 presidents were actually cricketers - Clyde Walcott from West Indies, Colin Cowdrey of England and Zaheer Abbas from Pakistan.
11792  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are people buying BTC @ $27000+ idiots? on: January 14, 2021, 03:35:26 AM
Bitcoin will continue to go up, until some better technological alternative comes online. And in the near future, I don't expect any other innovation to replace Bitcoin. It has been in existence for more than 12 years, and till now none of the other cryptocurrencies have managed to topple it from the top position. It may not be a smooth ride, and once in a while we may have to deal with dips and corrections. But in the long term, we are guaranteed of positive returns. Forget about $27,000, even the current level ($37,300) is good enough to make an investment.
11793  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 14, 2021, 03:26:02 AM
Hope this will be beneficial for the team India and save them from the loss because they already lost too many key players so they are in need some kind of luck to draw this serious so they won't get much criticism from Indian fans. Cheesy

Well.. a draw won't be a bad outcome for team India. Before the test series started, a lot of people were writing them off. Michael Vaughan even predicted that Australia would whitewash them 4-0. And they started very badly, getting blasted out for just 36 runs in the first match. But then, the recovery was unexpected. A draw in the final match would be the perfect ending for India.
11794  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla overtake Amazon? on: January 14, 2021, 03:15:13 AM
Tesla stocks are currently up 122% from November of 2020 so no wonder why Elon Musks' net worth shoots up and surpasses Jeff Bezos's net worth. Amazon stocks have been going sideways and currently in accumulation (IMO and in my observation) this past few months that is why Elon Musk become the richest person to date now.

They were so overpriced even when Tesla was accumulating huge losses. Now their financial reports claim that the net income is positive and the sales are increasing at a rate of around 80% per year. This is a stock which has grown by 125x since 2013, and almost 250 times since its IPO. The pricing defies conventional logic, but as long as there are people who are willing to purchase the TSLA stock even at this levels, we can expect the prices to go up in the near future as well.
11795  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - February 20 on: January 14, 2021, 03:05:27 AM
That is my hope too. It would be great if all the Youtube people come and bet on Logan Paul so the stats will be in our favour. This match is going to be so one sided. Floyd is still going to the gym on a regular basis, he is a machine and will detroy him.

The Daily Mail has published an estimate of the purse for each of the fighters. According to them, Mayweather is promised 50% of the PPV revenues, in addition to a guaranteed payment of $5 million. Logan Paul on the other hand, will be given 5% of the PPV revenues and a guaranteed payment of $200,000. I expect the PPV sales to be in the 3-4 million range, and they are priced at $89.99 each.
11796  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: January 14, 2021, 02:55:46 AM
Didn't watch the game but heard about Azharuddin's inning. Harsha Bhogle literally had a boner when talking this player  Grin. I checked the teams roaster and its good to see that almost every IPL local/national players representing their respective states, even likes of Sikhar, Ishant, Raina, Bhuvi, Chahar etc.

The over-rated Mumbai bowlers had a meltdown. After 10 overs, the Kerala total was like 150 or so. Some of the commentators were talking about the upcoming IPL auction and Azharuddin's prospects of getting selected by one of the franchises. He needs to perform consistently in the remaining matches to have a chance for that. His first-class and List A averages are in the 20s, and this points to inconsistency.
11797  Economy / Economics / Re: Second lockdown due to covid19 is painful on: January 13, 2021, 04:36:01 AM
It will be painful 4 months for most countries since they will not be able to vaccinate enough people before start of Spring. In May lock downs will stop and economic recovery will finally start. It will take years that economy will get to January 2020 level.

In another month or so, the winter season in the Northern hemisphere will end and that will naturally cause a reduction in the number of new cases. Vaccination is progressing at a very slow pace and therefore I am not expecting it to have a major impact anytime soon. Till now, only 30 million vaccine shots have been administered, out of a global population of 7.7 billion. It is going to take another 6-7 months before we witness the first signs of the vaccination impact.
11798  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will we ever get another 7th Jan 2018 Alt Season? on: January 13, 2021, 04:25:56 AM
Back in 2018, the alt season occurred primarily because of the ICO hype. Also, large number of investors went for various altcoins such as XRP, ETH and ADA, because they looked cheaper when compared to Bitcoin. The investors were hoping for higher returns by investing in new coins. But by late-2018 most of these coins had lost as much as 95% of their value. Those who made their investments back then are not going to do the same mistake again.
11799  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: January 13, 2021, 04:15:10 AM
Price tag is different in every league. Last time i checked back in 2018-19 PSL per franchise purse was less than $2 million. So i doubt if anyone want to spend millions on single player, no matter how big they are. Maximum amount would be around $200k, even this price looks high to me.

Duration of the tournament also matters. A regular player in the IPL is expected to play a minimum of 14 matches, while in the PSL it is much less. IPL stretches for almost two months, while the PSL will be completed in one month. And looking at the salaries of the other leagues such as the BBL and the BPL, I have to say that those in PSL doesn't look too bad.
11800  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: again a Bitcoin millionaire who forgot his password on: January 13, 2021, 04:05:08 AM
Lost coins only make everyone else's coins worth slightly more.  Think of it as a donation to everyone.

Well... this is very much true. Bitcoin offers a lot of advantages to its users, but also comes with a few riders. If you don't know how to backup your coins, then you should not hold BTC. The problem is that many of these early investors purchased their coins when they were really cheap, and then forgot about them. Now with the prices having increased to five digits, they want to cash out. I still remember the story about a guy in the United Kingdom, who threw out the hard drive containing BTC15,000 in a rubbish dump, and then spent months looking for it.
