121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Useless Ethereum - Pump & Dump strikes again on: March 28, 2018, 09:46:13 PM
There are useless tokens that aren't erc20 tokens as well. Hitbtc is a prime exchange for these wild pumps out of nowhere. Even at the top there's very little volume for anyone to cash in on any significant profits. If you have any junk coins might as well leave an offer in for a year or so and hope it eventually is filled by one of these such pumps.
122  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the price be stable or increase 2018 midle to last? on: March 26, 2018, 08:15:41 PM
You neglected to mention the 3rd option and that is that bitcoin will fall for the rest of the year. All 3 are possible and it's not clear right now as to which will happen. If I had to speculate I think we are going to fall again to 6k or even 5k at some point in April. After that I think the market will pick up from May onwards and really start to get going when we move in to the summer month of August.
123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: And on the 7th Day, God did not rest, He created Bitcoin... on: March 20, 2018, 06:52:33 PM
And so which coin is going to be Jesus or is bitcoin already Jesus? We all know how that story ended so maybe the parallels aren't so great. Although I like the idea of bitcoin dying and then being resurrected and rising up to the sky, that sounds like a story I can get behind.
124  Economy / Economics / Re: We need to start a bitcointalk hedge fund on: March 18, 2018, 09:40:17 PM
I am an investor and I saw that this forum misses a hedgefund ,everybody invests in their personal belives,it would be different with a bunch of investors that can analize the potencial of future projects and crypto speculations to make big profits , who wants to join with me?

For what reason? The very best people will not want to collaborate with many others who have little knowledge or experience in the market. There are more than enough profits to be made with their own capital that they will not need outside funds and even if they wanted to manage a fund there are much better channels than through this forum. A large part of this forum is people who have little interest in cryptocurrencies or the technology behind them and just want to profit.
125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The State of Bitcoin on: March 15, 2018, 04:10:45 PM
A large part of the problem with bitcoin is that most of the people who got in with the right reasons in the early days are now multi-millionaires and enjoying lives away from bitcoin. Now the community is greatly different and it's full of cash hungry people, these are the guys who will be taken advantage of by the so called 'status quo'.

What measures do you suggest could be implemented to combat some of the problems that you've highlighted?
126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Culture of hodlers on: March 14, 2018, 10:33:41 PM
I write of course stupidity. But I will say. What can we resist the increasing attempts to regulate bitcoin? It is to be hodlers. Even if you actively play on the stock exchange, do not sell everything. Let the small part will be all of the market. This process must be stepped up. We need to be fanatics and we will win.

I am not sure I've understood you correctly. But let me make one thing clear that, regulation does not mean prohibition. Today itself I have seen a similar argument where op correctly pointed out the difference between regulation and prohibition. I believe the community need to understand that fact.

Imposing tax on bitcoin income is a regulation, but blocking exchanges is a prohibition. So regulation is healthy for the crypto community as a whole and may fire up the adoption rate to an exponential level.

Just to add, HODLers are the biggest supporters of bitcoin because they believe in it with their hard earned money. They are the loyal group of supporters. Those who change from one currency to another, they are quick profit seekers. Even though we need both of them to be present in the market, the quick profit seekers are like gold-digger girlfriends.

I also saw the same thread and it's such an important distinction. Regulation perhaps limits the uses of cryptocurrencies but it makes the likelihood of it being used for the remaining ones much greater and thus overall it's a good thing. If you want to avoid tax or use crypto for other illegal activities then regulation isn't for you. Prohibition benefits no one, not even the countries that are enforcing it because it would just mean that all cryptocurrency activity moves underground. It's like the old saying 'better the devil you know than the devil you don't' - by regulating cryptocurrency it helps governments make it in to the 'devil' they know.
127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Culture of hodlers on: March 13, 2018, 10:55:33 PM
Holding isn't going to stop regulation. It's just going to make regulation pointless because there will be no transactions to regulate. It also means that we are going to be stuck holding a bunch of coins that we can't do anything with. We have to accept regulation, in time it will be what is best for the cryptocurrency space.
128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why did people get involved in bitconnect? on: March 12, 2018, 08:01:59 PM
There are two reasons, greed and stupidity but ultimately they become one. Stupidity remains as stupidity - if you cannot identify the very obvious warning signs then there's little hope for you in a dangerous financial environment. Greed turns in to stupidity as people ignore the obvious signs in front of them in favour of their greed.
129  Economy / Speculation / Re: Moon now? on: March 11, 2018, 09:03:17 PM
Neither. The price will recover soon to back towards 12k but we aren't going to go on a massive run back towards 20k anytime soon and it's also not a dead cat bounce because bitcoin is not dead.
130  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do you stomach the dips? on: March 09, 2018, 05:11:49 PM
Generally I hold because it's so difficult to see when the dips are going to come and once you've missed them it's risky to sell in the hope they'll continue to dip.

As for how to stomach it - it gets easier every time, I find solace in a few bottles of beer and some good music. Everyone probably has their own way, I watch the price a lot less when things are on a downturn than an upturn so that I can have some mental peace for a while.

Hopefully one day (if not now) you'll be in a position where even after a large 20% or more dip you'll still be in a profit and that's always a nice thing to fall back on.
131  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to snip? on: March 08, 2018, 07:22:38 PM
Everybody does that manually.

Just remove what you don't want and put a -snip- at it.

Hello, sorry to make a thread for such a seemingly easy question. Don't worry I'll lock it up once I get a satisfactory answer.

-snip-

Thanks guys!

Heh, that's all? I thought maybe there was some function that I was missing.

Thanks for your responses guys  Smiley

Hello, sorry to make a thread for such a seemingly easy question. Don't worry I'll lock it up once I get a satisfactory answer.

I see a lot of people when quoting long posts 'snip' out a section.

How is it they do this? I mean to get the line which says snip in the middle of it.

Thanks guys!
133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BTC / ETH or APPLE / SAMSUNG STOCKS ? on: March 01, 2018, 06:25:19 PM
It would depend on how much I was being told/forced to invest. If it was at my own discretion then I would invest in to BTC and ETH, I think the returns potential is much higher even though there is more risk involved. I am not currently looking to invest in things to ensure a modest return but in fact looking to grow my capital until it is a significant amount.

135  Other / Meta / Re: Updating the Statistics Center Data on: January 26, 2018, 10:55:59 PM
Hi,

I have been using the New Topics, New Posts, New Members and Page views data from the Statistics Center for a Bitcoin PhD project, and my initial analyses suggest that these are very important metrics for understanding Bitcoin community forum activity.

It would be greatly appreciated if an updated data-set could be provided for these very useful metrics, as the data-set currently terminates on 13 December 2017.

The data set will update as the data becomes complete, data for January cannot be added until January is complete and so the data you're looking at is currently up to date. At least that's my understanding of it.
136  Other / Meta / Re: How are there 49 merit sources now ? on: January 26, 2018, 10:54:09 PM
I added more. Smiley

By no means is the set of merit sources or their sMerit/month static. I will be adjusting it a lot as needed, especially in the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if there are 100-200 sources in a year from now.

This is really great news, can you give any indication as to how you expect progression of ranks to be, do you aim to have an environment where people who post well thought out responses and do not spam will be able to gain more merit than activity and thus level up as before or do you foresee that leveling will be slower than before?

I assume you have statistics on how many of each rank there are and how many rank up as well as how Merit is being spread around?
137  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: [BOUNTY] [ICO] 🚀 ABELON 🚀 - CryptoTrading Platform. One account trade anywhere. on: January 18, 2018, 08:26:29 PM
Dear participants!

Bounty campaign will be closed 20th Jan! The last day for submission of reports to Facebook and Twitter camapign campaign -  20th Jan 23:59 GMT.

Thank you for understanding
Hi! Why the bounty is closed? Do we get tokens for our work?

This was to be my question too, I thought it would run to the end of the ICO but we have not even left pre-ico stage yet.
138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: I want to do an x10 this year with this portfolio on: January 16, 2018, 07:58:37 PM
Hello!

I've been a holder of Waves for a while and after having everything in this currency, I decided to diversify a bit, since Waves has not moved for months ...

After much reading and looking at possible rough diamonds, I have diversified as follows:

- Waves (WAVES) - 27.5%
- Oyster Pearl (PRL) - 55%
- Elixir (ELIX) - 17.5%

PRL gave me a x5 in these last weeks, and right now it's all red, but hey, I'm calm, I just want to hold on and wait for recovery.

Do you think I can get an x10 this year? For me it would mean reaching these amounts approximately:

- Waves (WAVES) -75$
- Oyster Pearl (PRL) - 30$
- Elixir (ELIX) - 17$

I also take the opportunity to ask you about projects that you think can go very well this year. I was looking at the following:

- SONM (SNM)
- Spectercoin (XSPEC)

Thank you very much!

I have never even heard of Oyster Pearl so I'll have to do a little research on that, especially as you're putting the bulk of your investment in to it. Waves seems to be being held back by something but I wouldn't be surprised if it has a year similar to litecoin's in 2017. That would mean the price can reach $100 or more quite easily. One thing I would say is that x10 is hard and even harder if you're not actively moving your money around and looking for new opportunities.
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XVG] Verge - Speculation & Discussion on: January 16, 2018, 07:54:32 PM
If my sense is right, Verge chart baseline would be anywhere at 500 satoshis https://www.coingecko.com/en/price_charts/verge/btc potential for short time play

It has a really big support around 700 and 750. So I don't think is goin bellow that anytime soon unless BTC goes to less than 10k. Right now is going around 800 sats

It's had really big support at previous levels, 900 being the main one. Realistically at this point bitcoin is driving the market like you said. If bitcoin falls below 10k then that 700 support level will be obliterated, I have no doubt about that. It's a bit of a weird one the way the market works in that every coin seems to just follow bitcoins signal.
140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XVG] Verge - Speculation & Discussion on: January 15, 2018, 07:16:30 PM
Verge made a very good start. I think so its good time to buy some Verge. Maybe it can make 2x in a week.

What makes you say that, are you not worried about how the price seems to be slowly sliding, it was up as high as nearly 2000 satoshi and now is under 1000. At this rate it seems like 500 will come sooner than a recovery to 2000.
