121  Economy / Speculation / Re: A cracker owning 850,000btc. How bad is it? on: February 28, 2014, 04:14:11 PM
I am assuming that those bitcoins were stolen from their "cold storage" a few weeks ago, iirc gmaxwell said that they automatically send coins from their "cold storage" to their hot wallets when their hot wallets were empty Embarrassed
122  Economy / Speculation / A cracker owning 850,000btc. How bad is that? on: February 28, 2014, 03:47:40 PM
So MagicalTux and his lawyer confirmed that some cracker gained illegal access to their systems and stole 850k coins, don't ask me how that is possible...

Since many old bitcoins are most probably unspendable, what real percentage of bitcoin's market cap is now owned by a shady cracker? I would say something between 10% and 20%, which means that now one person with no moral values could destroy the economy at any moment.

I'm really worried. I saw a lot of bad things over the last 4 years but nothing like this.

Bitcoin as a technology is still amazing, but the economical impact of one bad guy owning a loooot of coins is pretty scary  Sad
123  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you really believe gox has lost 740,000 BTC and has only 2,000 left? on: February 25, 2014, 01:46:07 PM

You might believe in Bitcoin with all your heart, but do you by extension believe in Mark Karpeles with 'all your heart'?

I believe he will find a solution for their software problems and I believe in his intentions to keep his business working. I saw really bad things happen with MtGox, yet he never ran away.. and if there is something I have learned over the pass 4 years about the Bitcoin's community is that people usually run away pretty easily.

I don't like MtGox, but they are important for Bitcoin so I hope the best for them.
126  Economy / Speculation / Re: HUGE PLUMMET TOMORROW! on: February 14, 2014, 07:19:19 PM
TODAY IS FRIDAY, WHERE ARE THE UNDER $100 COINS OP PROMISED??!

Cheesy

How did you get on with them cheap $750 coins you said you were gonna buy the other day Pera?

Enjoying owning them?

history will tell Smiley luckily enough I went "only" 2/5 of my fiat at 700's, and used the other 3/5 today at 340 @ gox.. hopefully it was a good financial decision, yet risky since the market is crazy right now.

I will keep buying whenever I can, and personally I consider everything below $5k cheap at this point.

If thing goes wrong at least I will be happy to say that I "invested" in something which I believe, even if Bitcoins goes to cents. Should I be worried to be full in? nop, I think I should be happy because I am following my heart, and I am! Kiss

happy valentine's!

132  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 11, 2014, 07:12:20 PM
I wonder WHO/WHERE  the attack is coming from ?

JP Morgan
MtGox
Putin
China
Fonzie's mum
NSA
Some 14 year old in Rio
Mini Putin (you know he has got one)
A bunch of c.......

I already made a thread on this, link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=459887.0

The only useful answer so far:

A few possibilies:
1. Someone creating FUD to buy cheap coins (probably scammed mtgox first)
2. Banks/NSA try to damage bitcoin (but why would they start with mtgox related txs?)
3. A competitor like Ripple, Nxt or Ethereum
4. Mtgox trying to make it look like a general problem (but I highly doubt that)

You need a lot of well connected nodes to be faster than mgox, btc-e, bistamp, coinbase...

Wall street to buy cheap coins?

It makes me laugh to think some of you actually think bitcoin is important enough to be attacked by the gov or the banks or the NSA. Please. Bitcoin is still a pimple on the butt of the world.

This "attack" is just some stupid hacker getting his rocks off. Hackers hack coders code and bit makers make bots. This will only make bitcoin stronger.

Well.. back in 2011 gandresen was invited to show Bitcoin in the CIA, and cryptocurrencies were a big thing for the NSA in the mid 90s.. so it is important enough to have some attention, not sure why they would attack the network though
133  Economy / Economics / Re: What happens when the Banks make a bitcoin Clone? on: February 11, 2014, 07:05:59 PM
Why make a clone when you can just adopt it?
Standard Bank running internal pilot for Switchless' full Bitcoin integration
134  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 11, 2014, 06:47:39 PM
To late, I already reported you. So many new users spreading FUD today... pathetic Tongue
135  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 11, 2014, 06:38:36 PM

Rich South Africans will try anything to avoid the Rand. The Rand isn't even welcome in Zimbabwe now its lost so much value.

The link is not working, Probably a well-crafted hoax.

what do you mean with "not working"? it is working, but it asks for credentials (obviously)

138  Economy / Economics / Re: Bug in Bitcoin algorithm! on: February 11, 2014, 03:09:16 PM
There is no bug in Bitcoin but in how MtGox was confirming transactions... and they want the core dev to modify bitcoin's protocol to solve their (gox) own incompetence.

MtGox is pathetic: sql injections, preventable ddoses, poor software design choices, administrative problems, terribly bad PR..
Personally I don't want to see them die only because I believe that wouldn't be good for the market in a short to mid term, but they are being really painful  Undecided
139  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anybody tempted to buy some cheap Gox coins? on: February 11, 2014, 02:18:17 PM
I will do it probably tomorrow Smiley
140  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Deflation can cause economic problems? on: February 10, 2014, 02:46:04 AM
Deflation is associated with economic problems only and only because currencies are traditionally inflationary.

Every time I hear someone from the Federal Reserve or some Bank saying that a deflationary currency is bad for the economy I feel they are being (oh surprise) really hypocrites since they are not using a currency as they own storage of value, but probably some deflationary asset (eg real estates), while on the other side most people (for several different reasons) can't do the same.

fuck with the status quo rules and theories, don't ever trust anything they say!
