Can anyone answer a question re. how to configure bitcoind for use by counterpartyd using Ubuntu terminal?

If you already have bitcoind installed, what steps must you take to reconfigure/reindex the blockchain?

Is this the code? What are the steps? Thank you in advance!

mkdir -p ~/.bitcoin/
echo -e "rpcuser=rpc\nrpcpassword=rpcpw1234\nserver=1\ndaemon=1\ntxindex=1" > ~/.bitcoin/bitcoin.conf

You have to run the last command in the directory where the .deb file is located.  You do not have to repeat the first three steps again.

I thought that is exactly what I did: ran the command in the download directory where the BitcoinArmory file is located. I also tried moving the Armory File to the Home directory and had the same result. No luck.

Thanks
123  Bitcoin / Armory / Trouble verifying downloaded files (Amory Offline Bundle) in Ubuntu on: February 19, 2014, 04:47:51 AM
Hi,

I'm trying to verify the keys for Version 0.90-beta Offline Bundle for Ubuntu/Debian 12.04-32bit.

I've followed these instructions:

To verify in Linux, “cd” to the directory containing the installer (usually Downloads), download and import the Armory signing key from the ubuntu key-server, install the signature verification program, and then use it verify the signatures on the *.deb files:

1. $ cd Downloads   # the directory containing the *.deb
2. $ gpg --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 98832223
3. $ sudo apt-get install dpkg-sig
4. $ dpkg-sig --verify *.deb

I assume the above instructions include download of the "signature verification program", correct?

Here's what I get inputs/outputs for each of the steps:

Step 1:

ap@ap-K56:~$ cd Downloads   # the directory containing the *.deb
ap@ap-K56:~/Downloads$

Step 2:

ap@ap-K56:~/Downloads$ gpg --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 98832223
gpg: requesting key 98832223 from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: key 98832223: "Alan C. Reiner (Offline Signing Key) <alan@bitcoinarmory.com>" not changed
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg:              unchanged: 1

Step 3:

ap@ap-K56:~/Downloads$ sudo apt-get install dpkg-sig
[sudo] password for ap:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
dpkg-sig is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 244 not upgraded.

Step 4:

ap@ap-K56:~/Downloads$ dpkg-sig --verify *.deb
E: Cannot find *.deb: no such file

Step 4 again adding "armory":

ap@ap-K56:~/Downloads$ dpkg-sig --verify armory*.deb
E: Cannot find armory*.deb: no such file

The armory offline bundle is saved in 'downloads' in Ubuntu.

Any idea what the problem is? Thanks in advance.
124  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Printing private keys for cold storage on: February 09, 2014, 05:12:59 AM
Armory wallets are deterministic. You do not need to print the private keys the wallets hold, only the root keys. There is a "SecurePrint" feature with printing paper backups for that purpose.

For the paranoid kind, you can always print a few pages full of characters to overwrite the printer's cache.

Great. Thanks!
125  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Question re. Offline Ubuntu Bundle Applications on: February 09, 2014, 01:26:28 AM
Hi, I recently installed the Offline Bundle for Ubuntu on an dedicated offline computer.

The bundle contained 3 applications:

1) Armory (Test Network)
2) Armory
3) Armory (Offline)

I think I understand what 1) is for (Testnet transactions), but what is the difference between 2) and 3)? They seem identical except for the names.

Thank you!!!

They are the same when on an offline computer.  The "offline" version is really just for your online computer, if you want to force it to load in offline mode (there's a few reasons to do this, though most users don't require it).  When Armory is installed, it  has no way to know whether this is an offline computer, so it installs both anyway.

Thank you.

I've set up an offline wallet (Armory - Ubuntu OS - offline computer) and now want to print the private keys as a backup in case my offline computer (older laptop) crashes/dies.

What type of printer can I use to be sure that the printer does not store the private key data? Which type of printers should be avoided? Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Congrats to the developers and everyone that took the leap and burned their BTCs.

We need a Logo design competition as well as some work on marketing, etc.   Cheesy

This looks good.

+1, from a designer.

The arrow motif is one that I think we should stick to.

Agreed.
The design is good, but the implementation is amateurish.
A more advanced designer should be able to update this logo.

Hehe, I'm not even an amateur designer. I was just playing around on a logo design site and thought I stumbled across something that looked interesting and others might be able to work with.

What do I like about it?

1) Incorporates the arrows others were using earlier;
2) The two intertwining arrows symbolize action: in this case an exchange between 'counterparties' to a transaction;
3) The two arrow symbol can be used on its own as a kind of circular logo symbol without use of the "counterparty" name (most crypto logos are circular without a lot of writing);
4) The two arrow symbol could be used as a "C" in the spelling of the "Counterparty" name.

Anyway, that's it for my contribution as again I am not a logo designer. If anyone wants to use the design - or aspects of it - feel free without the necessity of asking me.

Cheers

A question: my antivirus is blocking access to/warning about the blockscan site. This only began to occur in the last few days. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Thanks.

From what I see this report is stemming from WOT at https://www.myywot.com/en/scorecard/blockscan.com . There are reports stemming back from 2009?? However, I only registered the domain last year and have only actively used this year. So my best bet is the domain might have been registered in the past by someone else and perhaps used for other purposes.

http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=blockscan.com

There does not appear to be way to report false positives but I did leave a comment on WOT

Cheers

Thanks. It looks like McAfee has the URL blacklisted:

http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/blockscan.com

I've already contacted WOT to report the false positive and it does appear that they have acknowledged this and reset the ratings.

If you would like to help you may also report the false positive where applicable

cheers

It seems to have worked as I am no longer receiving a block or warning! Great work on the explorer btw!

134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MasterCoin Buyer/Seller Thread on: January 12, 2014, 07:14:59 AM
Some large holders - one in particular over the past 2 weeks it would seem judging from the mastercoin-explorer - are selling at a faster rate than the incoming bids and are driving the market lower. The volume on the exchange cannot support the large quantities they are trying to sell so quickly. The entire bid volume is just 39 BTC at the moment. Either the sellers are going to have to adjust their expectations on how fast they can sell or the price will keep dropping. I suppose this is good news for people that want to invest in MSC.

Cross post from the main thread:
Hey guys,

Having just finished up with our weekly dev sync con-call, I'm now pleased to publicly announce that I will be joining the project full-time!

The foundation has been working tremendously hard to attract quality talent to drastically speed up development and I can't express enough how excited I am to have the opportunity to dedicate significantly more time to Mastercoin.  We have a great team working on the project and with a significant number of new hires coming on board too and getting involved the next few months should be an exciting time!

I will be ceasing my current role and transitioning to working full time on development on 24 Feb.

Thanks to the community for all your support to date Smiley
Zathras

Fantastic! Congrats on joining Mastercoin full time.
136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Name the 0.0001 BTC unit - 1st POLL on: January 06, 2014, 08:34:42 AM
Bitcoin/Bit/Satoshi is the way to go. Each range of 4 decimal places will cover 10,000 units, which is easy to remember, and the names are easy to say. And look at this beautiful little thing below. You can express this whole naming scheme in two lines!

1 Bitcoin = 10,000 Bits
1 Bit = 10,000 Satoshis

Simplicity. Marketability. Roll-off-the-tongue-ness.

+1

We have a winner?

The windows bundle is stand alone by nature. Offline bundles are for Debian/Ubuntu only. With windows installed, you only need the Armory Windows installer to run offline Armory off of it.

Thanks.

found some good info here: https://bitcoinarmory.com/about/using-our-wallet/

I've watched some online tutorials on setting up an offline wallet on a dedicated PC that will never touch the internet after Armory is installed. The tutorials recommend downloading the Ubuntu bundle from the Armory site. Here:

Linux – Offline Bundles for Ubuntu 10.04 & 12.04
https://bitcoinarmory.com/download/

When I attempted to do this on the older laptop which I have decided to use for the offline wallet, windows could not install the the bundle and recommended that I install unzip and another program.

My question: if I factory reinstall Windows on my Laptop, download Armory, and then forever disconnect my Laptop for the offline wallet from the internet, is there any need for installing Ubuntu?

I have in fact just factory reinstalled Windows on my Laptop and am hesitant to download a lot of programs to make Ubuntu work if that is unnecessary.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
