my car is about to die.. i don't have a lot of fiat to make the repairs either. really sucks if i have to drop $2k to fix it. to make matters worse, im quitting my job at the end of the month.

I'm assuming you are still quite young.  I'm in my 50's.  Thirty years ago I was in the same boat, driving a junk vehicle that sometimes barely got me back to my one room apartment at night, working my buttocks off for peanuts.

One day, believe it or not, you will be looking back at these times with fondness.

If that is a moon rock or meteorite, I'll take it!
124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Here's The Deal on: December 08, 2013, 08:33:15 AM
Say what?  Your getting out because you don't believe 1 Bitcoin will be worth 16 million dollars?

LOL.  Well I am not going to live to be 16 million years old either but I don't plan on getting out of life anytime soon considering the future potential.

I wouldn't be too concerned about "regulatory environments".  The powers that be cannot even control file sharing despite their best efforts.

In fact, I find this kind of talk very encouraging.  Because it means Bitcoin is on to something. It's threatening the entrenched system.  It's disruptive.  It means there is fantastic potential here.
125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Here's The Deal on: December 07, 2013, 11:51:06 PM
Look everyone, BitCoin could be a once in a lifetime event in terms of money and finance.

Like the Internet of the early to mid 1990's few people understood its significance. Many downplayed its potential role.  Many told of its use as a means to sell drugs and porn.  Some foretold it would be highly regulated by governments so much so as to be useless.

You all know how the Internet turned out.

This is your chance to be in on something that can become very very big.  As in changing history.

Imagine if you had the foresight to register a couple of .com domains back in 1997 when they were still easy to get.  Where would you be now after that tiny investment?  If the Internet had failed, so what?  You'd be out a couple bucks.  But if it succeeded you would be wealthy, very wealthy indeed when you had "Bank.com", "sex.com", "cars.com" etc. in your portfolio.

Think of owning a bitcoin being something like owning a keyword domain that you got when the Internet was first starting out.  You spend a little money, get yourself a bitcoin (or several bitcoins if you can afford it), and hold onto it just to see what happens.  Because this bitcoin thing is either going to die out or become very very big.  Big as in PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard all rolled into one.  Perhaps as big as US Currency.  The potential payoff is absolutely enormous, the potential loss is small.

I like it when I hear about the weak hands cashing out early.  This makes it all the more easier for newbies to get their hands on a bitcoin or two and have a great opportunity.

People laugh when they hear that someone once paid 10,000 bitcoins for a pizza.  Back then there was little idea of what bitcoin could become.  Now we know better.  And some people are still selling off their bitcoins for piddling sums that are but fractions of their potential.

126  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why didn't you sell? on: December 07, 2013, 11:29:21 PM
How about

"Cause I didn't wanna"

Why didn't you sell your gold, silver, or your car?

Because I don't have any.

But for someone who has, it's either because there were no buyers, or the price drop (or difference) was perceived to be lower than transaction costs.

I don't get it - you think $700 is a ditch? LOL

Oh, you mean the US dollar has gained value over the last 100 years.

He'll be waiting on our table at an expensive restaurant - we'll give him a tip in bitcoin as we leave to get back onto our yachts for another exciting day of sport fishing and scuba diving in the sun.

One day we'll be lighting our cigars with $100 bills (because they are worthless)

130  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is a Bitcoin Really Worth? on: December 07, 2013, 05:12:11 PM
The value of bitcoin will rise with its usefulness as a medium of exchange.  Seeings as how the infrastructure for enabling easy exchange of goods and services for bitcoin is still in its infancy, there is huge room for growth.  Imagine the day when every grocery store, bar, and online business accepts bitcoin as a form of payment.

Imagine the day when colonies on the moon and mars accept bitcoin payments from residents on earth.

That is potential value of bitcoin.

Once again: never invest anything you cannot afford to loose.  First and foremost invest in yourself and set yourself up so that you are safe come what may:

#1 Invest in yourself - education etc so that you can bring in a good income
#2 Pay off all debt
#3 Lay in a store of food, clothing, tools, and all the other stuff you use on a daily basis.  3 months worth minimum.  1 to 2 years best.  This protects you from inflation 'cause you use all this stuff anyway.  If there is a major disaster this store could make you the wealthiest man in town.
#4 ONLY when you reach the point where you have excess - diversify into liquid investments ie BTC, Gold, Silver, Cash.
$5 Always continue to improve yourself, health, career, family life, friends, etc.

The buckets of grain, beans, and rice I have stored in a hidden location make me the wealthiest man in the state
134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: India = massive potential on: December 05, 2013, 09:24:21 PM
can we just expand this to "any country that has a fucked up economic/financial system, which is basically the entire world."

Well.... In democracy, the ruling political parties are forced to take up more and more "populist" measures. This is the case everywhere, be it the US or India.

As a rule, in a welfare state less than 10% of the population will engage themselves with productive activity. The remaining 90% will be dependent on this 10% to give them means for living.

Take India's case for example. Out of a population of some 1,250 million there are only around 33,739,124 (33.7 million) income tax payers. A very large part of the population is dependent on subsidies and handouts.

The challenge for the Indian government is to feed the remaining 1,216 million with tax extracted from the 34 million. Now there is a delicate balance here. You can't squeeze the 34 million too much (Atlas Shrugged like situation will emerge). And you can't lower the tax beyond a certain point (you'll lose votes from the 1,216 million).

When the balance is altered in favor of the productive population (by reducing subsidies, benefits.etc), the government will collapse.

When this balance is altered in favor of the unproductive population (when government punishes the productive population with heavier taxes), the financial system will collapse (as it is currently happening all over the world).

Hit the nail on the head.  This is exactly what is happening in the USA.  Too many parasites will destroy the host.

136  Economy / Speculation / Re: China banned bitcoin. When will it crash? Win 0.1 BTC on: December 05, 2013, 05:34:10 PM
I'll bet you 100 Bitcoins that the value of 1 Bitcoin does not drop to Zero US Dollars in 5 years.

If 1 BTC = 0 US Dollars then you get my 100 bitcoins

Otherwise I get your 100 Bitcoins.

All takers PM me.
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't panic, China is NOT banning bitcoin on: December 05, 2013, 05:21:00 PM
Excellent news.  When the government bans or puts the breaks on something that is in great demand by the people, that something tends to go underground - and be valued EVEN MORE highly.

Think booze during the American Prohibition - there were great profits to be made
Think drugs during the modern American durg Prohbition - there are great profits to be made.

What this tells me is the banking industry of that country is nervous about what Bitcoin means to them.  These banksters are putting pressure on governments to curb bitcoin because they see the writing on the wall.

These means bitcoin is onto something.  Something big.  You'd be a fool to cash out now from what could be a once in a lifetime chance to be financially wealthy and free due to the game changer known as bicoin.

Excellent news, indeed!
138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lets talk about Bitcoin - Sick of the Media Portrayal on: December 04, 2013, 01:05:08 PM
They said the same crap about the Internet back in the early and mid-1990's.  This is an excellent indication that we are, indeed, onto something good.

Soon enough mainstream media will be accepting bitcoins to help fund their half-truths and lies.
139  Economy / Speculation / Re: bitcoins = tulips on: December 03, 2013, 03:31:53 PM
If you want tulips, one only has to hold US Dollars.  Being printed to the tune of an additional $85 billion per month.  Hundreds of Trillions of dollars in debt and unfunded liabilities.

I'll take my chances with bitcoin.
140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hey bitcoiner, how OLD are you? on: December 02, 2013, 07:22:47 PM
Wait until females discover they can buy shopping things using bitcoins.  When you see shoe and handbag stores using bitcoin the female user population will explode.
