121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can small countries in accepting bitcoin as legal transaction? on: May 30, 2024, 06:03:21 AM
Regardless be it a small country or big country they can make Bitcoin as legal tender but they choose not to do and the reason is they will not have control over it which the government will never agree and moreover just one random though what if whales starts manipulating Bitcoin to the core? It will disrupt the economy.Bitcoin as a legal currency would be difficult.
Any country can adopt Bitcoin, as a legal tender, whether they're big or small, but I think that there's a reason why it's not happening yet, every country wants a centralized fiat currency that their central banks can regulate. As we know Bitcoin is decentralized and countries cannot control it, so I believe that it will be very difficult for many countries to adopt it whether they're a big or small country. As you noted, what if whales decides to manipulate it, how can a country be able to regulate it to suit their economy, this will not be an easy task. I think that Bitcoin, will function better as an alternative currency, to be used in p2p transactions, and it's massive adoption can make it the top digital cash, above every fiat currencies.
122  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can anti gamblers accept cash from gamblers when they're in dire financial needs on: May 30, 2024, 05:08:07 AM

But when trouble comes, that is the best time to judge people's characters, it's then that you will know whether they practice what they preach. So I'm wondering in a scenerio where people with these anti gambling believes and mindset finds themselves in a situation where they perhaps needed to save a life urgently and what is needed is money for quick surgery. And the only person that volunteered to give the money is someone that says he/she won the money in gambling, I wonder if the anti gambling person in dire need will collect the money.

To be clear, people with anti gambling belief condone the act of gambling, not the money made from gambling itself because it’s the same money that bein earn on salary and other ways. Gambling money is not a tainted money which means you are not doing something illegal.

I believe on your situation given. It’s no brainer that an anti gambler person will borrow money from the gmblee because he have no choice and also the money being borrowed doesn’t marked as gambling money so it’s very easy to accept it even with anti gambling purposes because you are just borrowing it.
From your point of view, an anti gambler can collect money from a gambler when in dire need, even though they condemn gambling, but they don't condemn the money that is earned from it. I think that will be hypocrisy, it means that the person can as well collect money from an armed robber who is a murderer, with the mindset that it doesn't matter how he made the money, that what matters is collecting the money, afterall it's the same with money that is earned in a salary.

I think that a person can collect money from a source that they don't approve of to save a life, but they should have that slight remorseful feeling that on a normal day, they wouldn't even consider collecting money from such a person. Money earned from a source that you approve of is not the same with the money earned from a source that you don't approve off, how money is earned matters a lot.
123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Meme Coins Resembling Lotteries in the Crypto Space on: May 29, 2024, 03:14:25 PM
Meme coins should be seen as gambling. That makes you right because they are just like lotteries which you can either win or lose money. But not only meme coins but also most other altcoins. As the price of meme coins are very volatile, you can also see many altcoins having a highly volatile prices. This is the reason you should use the money that you can afford to lose on them because they can either give you good profit or fail you.
Every experienced person in the crypto space understands that investing in memecoins are risky because you're gambling your funds by doing so, and be ready to accept whatever outcome that the project brings, whether profit or lose. It's true that you can liken them to lotteries and Ponzi schemes, because you can make a lucky pick and it'll be profitable for you, while some are scam projects from the inception, they'll launch and when the dev. team has accumulated enough of investors funds, they exit the project and it'll be dead.

The best approach for memecoins is to research and make a choice, it could become the next dogecoin and Shiba Inu, or end up as one of the uncountable shitcoins, so always invest the amount that you can afford to loose.
124  Other / Off-topic / Can anti gamblers accept cash from gamblers when they're in dire financial needs on: May 29, 2024, 11:32:24 AM
I've heard and seen people that condemns gambling, due to their religious believes, some because they think that gamblers are irresponsible people, while others are what they've heard about gambling addicts. This sets of people will tell you that gambling is sin, gamblers are people who wants to take shortcuts to riches and gamblers are not responsible or to be trusted with money.

The morale in this story is that people that condemns gambling should not judge, because it's not a crime to gamble. Although we have irresponsible gamblers, but then there are irresponsible people in every areas of life. So what do you think about the people that condemns gambling?
125  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: What is the situation of Cryptocurrency in Nigeria? on: May 29, 2024, 09:49:11 AM
Nigerian government just like other governments want to de know and control cryptocurrency transactions, unto say crypto like Bitcoin, de decentralized, meaning say criminals dem fit to de launder money through am. Dat na why countries get different restrictions, unfavorable regulations while some countries na outright ban.

Di situation of cryptocurrency inside Nigeria, na peculiar case because our government de take crypto matter de cover for dem incompetent leadership. Dem de find ways to strengthen di naira, instead to face di matter from di root and improve our infrastructures, make di country not to depend on importation, instead na crypto matter dem come face, like say na im be di problem of Nigeria. After dem sanction Binance, and come disable naira p2p for reputable exchanges, how e don take help di naira to appreciate? Cost of goods and services for di country just de increase everyday and di poor de get poorer. No matter wetin dem do, cryptocurrency, don come to stay for naija, so e de better say make dem make Nigeria, a crypto friendly country, to benefit a lot of our citizens dem wey de earn money from cryptocurrency.
126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't advice anyone to invest on Bitcoin if he doesn't have Alt. income on: May 29, 2024, 07:49:02 AM
Without income there's no way that anybody can do Bitcoin investment, because it takes money to convert to Bitcoin and hodle, and having atleast one steady source of income is important to be able to do DCA method. I've encountered a couple of unemployment youths who are looking for online jobs where they can make money, they'd ask my opinion about the potentials of making money in cryptocurrency, and I'd tell them that cryptocurrency is about trading and investments, that you need money to engage in either of them, so they're not a job for the unemployed.

The OP did the right thing by advising his cousin to invest in Bitcoin, when he had a steady income, when the cousin became broke and remembered Bitcoin, I think that the OP still did the right thing by letting him to understand that Bitcoin, is not a get rich quick scheme, he needs money to invest on the long term before he'll start to see ROI.
127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How did/do you handled a gambling addict story. on: May 29, 2024, 06:04:30 AM
Are gambling addicts really that open to talking to people? I have only been reading about gambling addicts stories online and have not come across any one that comes out to talk to me in the open; even the guys whom I suspect to be addicted to gambling don't even admit to it, talk more about sharing their pains with me.

If any comes to me, I will definitely still reciprocate the same advice that I share here on the forum with the person: either they seek professional help or he should embrace his family more, as they are the only ones that can render him the help he needs and distract him from the addiction a bit.
I've personally never had any gambling addict open up to me about what they're going through but I've heard about the ones that have opened up to other people, so I guess that it's not very common for addicts to open up about their addictions. I feel that most of them are found out through their financial recklessness, I've heard about people who used the money that was meant for important projects or expenditures to gamble, and were found out after family or friends began to investigate and interrogate the gambling addicts.

I've heard about the story of a gambling addict who dropped out of school because he gambled with the tuition fee that was sent to him by his struggling parents. He didn't stop there, after dropping out of school, the irresponsible gambler kept collecting more tuition fees from his parents, who still thought that he was in school, this kept on until his parents got information that there son was no longer in school. I agree with you that these addicts needs professional help, love and emotional support from their families to see them through.
128  Economy / Economics / Re: How Do You Store Value to Offset Inflation? on: May 28, 2024, 03:02:10 PM

Personally, I've been exploring a few options, including:

Cryptocurrencies、Precious Metals、Real Estate、Stocks and Bond、Commodities。
What about you? How are you managing your investments to combat inflation? Do you think Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are effective in this regard? I'd love to hear your thoughts and any strategies that have worked for you.
Diversifying money into investments is the best decision that anybody can make in an economy that is experiencing inflation, and the type of investment depends on the amount of money that you have. My number one investment is Bitcoin, because it's a valuable asset and a person can start it's investment with a small amount, even while working, you can do DCA method and grow your investment fund, which will keep multiplying your ROI on the long term. My second option that I'm still working on is real estate, this is also an asset that it's price keeps increasing in value, I plan to sale some of my Bitcoin, in the near future and diversify it into real estate.

Money in the bank, during inflation is ignorance on the part of an account holder, because the more the fiat currency is devaluing, the more the value of the money in the bank is depreciating. I strongly recommend Bitcoin, investment, not shitcoin cryptocurrencies.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's impossible to copy Bitcoin, and the price will always rise because on: May 28, 2024, 10:03:55 AM
It's not impossible to copy bitcoin, in a technical sense though. There have been a lot of bitcoin forks over the years but in terms of popularity, value, and utility, they're not going to get close anytime soon. Bitcoin is unique and it would be a big disservice for everyone here to say that someone can just copy it and recreate the success. Your loop seems to be on the right but I got to tell you though, I don't think that it matters, once there's people that have bought bitcoin with their own money, it's already done, bitcoin has a value. Also regarding the rise in prices, it will always be like that because there's always a demand for bitcoin and there's not a lot of people that know about bitcoin and eventually those people will know and some of them will try to invest and they will contribute to the increase of demand which increase the price of bitcoin even more.
The key word is that Bitcoin, is unique, and no other cryptocurrency comes near it because of it's value, popularity and utility, like you rightly said, therefore it's in a higher class of it's own. And inasmuch as there's always a demand for it, the price will continue to increase in the future, this is necessitated because over the years Bitcoin, has proven to be a store of value, an asset that if held on a long term, will always increase returns on investment for it's holders. Except for a few top altcoins, most of the projects in the category are scams, this is why making comparison in cryptocurrency, it'll be like choosing between Bitcoin and altcoins, obviously Bitcoin, will always carry the day, because of the trust and profitability that it has built over the years.
130  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Drake curse strikes again, rapper loses on Fury, Usyk bet on: May 28, 2024, 07:51:55 AM
Here we are worrying about an unlucky gambler, if him Drake, is not too worried about his loses, then I don't think that I need to lose sleep over it, afterall it's his money. Although I don't think that being a serial looser in anything is good for the image of any celebrities, his fans will not be too excited about his constantly loosing huge amount of money, and I doubt that they can brag about it. But I think that the bet companies that drake, loses to will be loving him more because he's making them richer, infact they'll love him to be losing so much more than winning, because they're in business to make money.
131  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: People keep asking me to borrow money, some of them for betting on: May 28, 2024, 06:33:00 AM

Do you usually lend money to relatives, friends, etc.? Have you ever felt bad about it, done it unwillingly?

And when they are female friends, do you lend them?
Firstly I think that you perhaps give your family and friends the impression that you have extra money, you might not do this intentionally but the way you talk about money can give them that impression, otherwise they will not always come to you.

It's easier to borrow money to outsiders than family and friends, you can take drastic actions to recover your money from outsiders, but you can create enemity between family and friends, when you want to forcefully recover your money. With family and friends, it's better to loan them the amount that you can afford to loose, so when they don't pay back, it won't affect your relationship with them. Try to know the purpose of the money that they want to borrow from you, if it's for gambling, you need to bluntly or gently tell then NO. People should never gamble with borrowed money, because you never know whether you'll win or lose.
132  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: If you can invest in btc then trust it and just hodl for future betterment on: May 27, 2024, 03:41:00 PM
E de very important to gather information about any investments wey person wan enter, odawise di person go de get doubts and panic, if some normal shakeups happen for di investment. Wen person research and gather information about Bitcoin before im go into di investment, im no go panic wen di price begin to dip, di person go understand say na normal thing, unto say Bitcoin de volatile, and di price de pump and dump on the short term. Everybody wey de hodl Bitcoin, suppose understand say na long term investment, di longer wey you hodl am, di more profitable im go be, unto say na verified store of value.

Na for di early days of Bitcoin creation na im people de panic say weda na Ponzi scheme or some kind of scam, but I believe say dat myopic view don drastically reduce, now people don trust am as a reputable asset wey im value go continue to increase.
133  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is it proper for younger ones to gamble? on: May 27, 2024, 12:42:45 PM

I asked someone besides me why did they allow this boy's to come in with their uniforms and gamble, he said did they put any restrictions that younger ones are not allowed to gamble. I said but it's not normal, I replied him what if this are your kids would you be happy seeing them gambling with their uniforms on them. So what do you guys think about this situation at hand now.
This is the norm in most rural areas, you see kids who have no business being in the bet shops, they'll be there gambling and everybody is minding their own business, I got tried of being angry and has to accept what I see. Due to the economic hardship in my country, many ignorant people thinks that gambling is a shortcut to riches, you'll see the elderly and underage, all pamutating in lotto shops and bet shops. I know that gambling age should be 18 years and above, but laws are not very effective in most rural areas, and we're seeing more underaged gamblers.

I've talked to a few secondary school students about the dangers of gambling, when you're not matured enough to make financial decisions, but it all falls on deaf ears when one of their peers wins money.
134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Will always Survive on: May 27, 2024, 07:23:56 AM
Keeping the technical aspects aside in layman's terms I would say it has survived for over a decade and faced all sort of challenges from being threatened to be banned to being called scam and being targeted as a medium of terror funding but it has survived of of these accusations and sabotage that's itself is enough for us to understand Bitcoin is not a bubble or weak asset and it would continue to sustain.
Bitcoin is already surviving every stumbling blocks on it's way to becoming the dominant digital cash, that will take over from all the digital fiat. In the early days of it's creation, people were skeptical about it, including me, it was called a Ponzi scheme in my locality, but as the years went by, it's reputation has continued to increase and more people have seen that it's a store of value, hence the adoption continues to grow. Although I believe that most people that hodl Bitcoin, is for investment purposes, to collect profits from it, because it's an asset that continues to increase in value, hopefully in the future, it'll be used more as a digital cash to make payments for items.

136  Other / Off-topic / Re: How much of my salary should I use to gamble on: May 27, 2024, 06:22:41 AM
Gambling is becoming a popular thing in my locality almost everyone gamble and even colleagues gamble and engage in gambling related discussions at work,  so gambling is legal and very popular so there is no Shame in using part of a salary to gamble with that is why I am asking the question of what the right percentage from my salary that I should use to gamble?
The most important thing is for every income earning gambler to learn how to gamble responsibly, that will help the person to plan the amount that they use for gambling. The income earner should have a budget for his expenditures, and he should be very disciplined to adhere to the percentage that he has mapped out for gambling, without discipline, the gambler can be carried away and exceed the planned amount for gambling. The amount of money to take from salary for gambling should be the decision of the gambler, their other responsibilities will determine how much they will gamble in a week or month, I will however suggest less than 5% of total income.

138  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Are signature campaigns still a thing in bitcointalk.org? on: May 26, 2024, 04:25:27 PM
If I get you correctly what you mean is that individual company contacts a member of the forum by making him her a special offer to wear their signatures,  that is nit so popular here in the forum, but I am sure we still have some members of the  forum who have special offers to wear a signatures without any public signatures campaign to employ multiple others.

What is popular here in the forum is signatures campaign and it is under the manager who make the pay foll and the pay day and he is the representative between the company and the members.
It must've been a big honor for companies to contact members privately to wear there signatures, that must be in the early days when the number of forum members were not this much, I guess some pioneering members will still get the preferential treatments. What I met on ground is joining a signature campaign, through a campaign manager, and I think it makes the relationship between the campaign perticipants in the forum and the company they're advertising for to have cordial relationships.
139  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Adopting Bitcoin as a global payment method. on: May 26, 2024, 03:17:28 PM
With the launch of some central bank digital currency in countries like Brazil, India,China and even Nigeria are among a few of this countries. While some other countries are still looking into a possibility of launching theirs, these central bank digital currencies will change the whole concept of global financing as more users and accurate, reliable and effective digital banking experience Wil be seen worldwide.
I think this thread is about bitcoin and not about CBDCs. CBDCs are nothing more than fiat. They are centralized and completely controlled by the government. Many people do not make use if eNaira when they see it as fiat and nothing more. I still prefer to make use of those Microfinance banks and Fintech for frequent transactions because I only have little amount of money in my bank accounts.
Di subject na about Bitcoin, but di content of discussion come add cbdc, dem two no be di same, Bitcoin na cryptocurrency while cbdc na fiat. Aldo di similarity wey dem get be say di two na digital transactions dem de for.

Bitcoin adoption don increase rapidly and many people don de hodl am now, some businesses don de accept am as payment, but im use as a digital currency to take make payments no be di reason wey many people take hodl am, and dat na one of di reasons wey di adoption never circulate as e suppose to. As Bitcoin na store of value, many holders no de like to spend am until di value increase for dem to sale and make profit. I believe say cbdc wey be fiat digital currency go fit to also boost di chances of businesses to de accept Bitcoin, unto say na digital currency too.
140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Suggestions] My own suggestion for the improvement of this board. on: May 26, 2024, 02:07:24 PM
This is an altcoins discussion board and I think that any discussion that is related to altcoins should be allowed to be discussed, it doesn't matter if they're related, so far there's a little difference, then it should be allowed. Altcoin discussions have similarities and if you don't accommodate them what else are we going to discuss here in this board? You can't bring discussions from any other boards to this board, that'll be the real spamming, so I suggest that we leave it as it is, accommodate any new information on altcoins, even if it looks similar to others.

If you have one thread for memecoins, it'll become a mega thread and boring, so I don't mind seeing a new memecoin thread with a new information. Let it be at the OP discretion to lock a thread, or if anybody has a problem with a thread, the best thing to do is report it or ignore it.
