121  Other / Meta / Re: TIL Activity does not work on precisely 2 week intervals + interval timings on: December 14, 2015, 07:08:01 PM
I know "legendary" status is random after 750, but I haven't come across anyone that has hit that title at 750...have we seen any of them, or is the randomness more heavily weighted towards needing more activity?
My main account was pretty lucky, I think I reached Legendary right near 800 activity if I remember right. theymos also posted a list of the luckiest and unluckiest Legendary users if you want to take a peak at that. Looks like the activity rank is truly random, I don't think there's any sort of weighting towards higher numbers when determining what activity a user needs to become Legendary.

Wow, it seems I should underclock them. My S7 have  around 0.0065% with default settings :-(
What kind of PSU are you using? I find that with lower quality PSU's you get higher HW error rates (voltages might not be exact, in my experience that's led to some problems with miners).

I'm running an S7 right now and its HW error rate is around 0.0004% after 3 days of running steady.
123  Other / Meta / Re: Does this happen often? on: December 11, 2015, 09:37:24 PM
I've been on the site for a couple of years and can't remember this happening before, so no this doesn't happen very often.
124  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: December 01, 2015, 10:21:40 PM
Problem is, it's easy to sell on ebay than anywhere else.  I posted 3 S5's and sold them all the same day on ebay.  I could put them out in the forums here and not get any real interest for weeks since nobody wants them anymore.
That's a fair point, but I think I'd rather play the market here on Bitcointalk for a couple weeks than sell something worth > $1000 on eBay the day it's posted and risk being scammed.
125  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: December 01, 2015, 09:59:46 PM
Yea, F that.  If he was a guest user I would simply cancel the sale and re-list.  Bunch of BS that Ebay lets you get scammed...plus they charge you the fees for being scammed as well.

I would think eBay will credit back the fees if he gives them a call to explain the situation.  He should not be charged back $1,600 from PayPal because they were the one's who basically says the buyer is okay.

Bottom line:  Don't sell to anyone with less than 10 positive feedbacks as a buyer for a large amount of money.  They should have an approved PayPal account with confirmed address by that time.
I've heard similar stories like that before. IIRC OgNasty was scammed similarly when selling a few miners on eBay. They were worth less than $1600 but he was still out of the money and the miners.

I think the real bottom line is to not sell on eBay period.. I've heard way too many stories about legit sellers being ripped off by fraudulent buyers for my liking.
126  Other / Meta / Re: Intrusive flashbacks, opening up innocent people to hostility and abuse on: November 23, 2015, 01:14:56 AM
He only left you a neutral rating, not a negative rating. So that doesn't affect how your profile shows up in posts and such, it's only visible if a user navigates directly to your trust page. If things like a neutral rating on your profile is causing you to harm yourself, you should probably think about leaving this website.

I saw that some are using this PSU EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 1300W for their S7. How's it working out?
I'm using a G2 1300W as well to power my S7. It's been running for a few weeks now with no major issues. However the one problem I've been having with my setup is that whenever I have a power failure, the PSU won't boot up again automatically when power comes back online. If I want to start up my miner again, I have to pull out the paper clip jumper and pop it back in again. So that's something to keep in mind if you live somewhere like me where power failures aren't uncommon. Other than that I'm really pleased with the G2 1300W.
128  Other / Meta / Re: Is scammers posing as moderators normal practice? on: November 22, 2015, 01:45:48 PM
I've had pretty much the same thing happen to me. I left a negative trust on a similar impostor (probably the same guy operating all these impostor accounts) using my main account and received the following PM shortly after:

Quote from: BITMAIN `
Kiss your account goodbye.

I am about the neg the shit out of it over the next few months with everything from newbie to sr. member accounts.

Through enough shit and some sticks.

Should have kept your fuckin nose out.

Nothing ever came from it though, so I wouldn't worry about it. Just report the message and it'll be dealt with it.

Do you really need to change your miners default password if you changed your router password? I don't see how anybody can get in. You also can't access the router remotely.
You shouldn't have to change the default login. If the miner isn't open to the internet then you shouldn't have to worry about anyone hijacking it over your local network (unless someone on your local network has malicious intents).
130  Other / Meta / Re: [Poll] "Hacked account as collateral" keep or sell on: November 22, 2015, 02:23:45 AM
If the loan isn't paid back after the 24th then I'd say do what you want with the account. However, it will be very difficult to get anything for the account if you don't have a signed message to prove ownership. Don't expect to get more than 0.04 BTC for a Senior account with no signed message, especially after all the drama going on with the account (someone saying it's his account - if he can provide a signed message from the account he'll get the account back, even if you've sold it to someone already).

What would I do? Nothing until the 25th. If the loan isn't paid back by then, I'd probably try listing it for sale, making it known that a signed message doesn't come with the account. You'll probably be taking a loss, but it's a learning experience I guess.

Amount: 1.25 BTC
Interest: 16%
Date Of Repayment: 11/27/2015
Reason: Bill
Address: 1D485vvk8rPEXpz9ttVgrbv8WqZoxDy4eq (HwTvAMA8CZnuW5TaHPtjU+pUNxG7o7UnpZ6Bmi/25CMvGHPviJOdDpWgY9ggtRrxgskf0vZfpm82DvjQ7mURyN0=)
Collateral: My bitcointalk account I believe is worth more than 1.25 BTC.

Don't want to thread hijack but it looks like this guy is using a possibly hacked account. No posts since July 31st, 2014. Plus, it looks like he's strategically playing the security log system. If you search for his name in the seclog, you'll see he changed his password on Nov. 16th, meaning that by posting today the password changed warning on his trust page is gone.

I'm willing to change my stance on this guy if he can provide a signed message (not sure what the signature above is from), but looks like a hacked account to me. Good try though. Wink
132  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 - Password not working anymore ! Please help on: November 21, 2015, 09:40:06 PM
i agree, but the test is whether it was still hashing to OP account or not. If not, then i could/would believe that it was truly hacked.
Also, I am not familiar with port forwarding, but wouldn't you need some kind of access to OP computer or at least router to do this?
To port forward you'd probably need access to a router. I'm guessing the OP would have set this up beforehand, which was why the miner was exposed to the internet.

I also came across this Reddit thread earlier today. It sounds pretty much identical to the problems the OP is having, and after ensuring that all ports on his network were closed, the guy who posted that thread didn't have his miner hacked again.
133  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S7 - Password not working anymore ! Please help on: November 21, 2015, 09:10:02 PM
i still think that this is just a software glitch especially with forwarding, because someone had to either hack into your computer or router and if so, you have bigger problems than just a miner.

also, when you say...stole a miner...do you mean that your miner seized to hash to your pool and was hashing to another address?
if yes, then it was hacked (unless it defaulted to factory settings), if no, then just a software glitch.

To my understanding the OP port forwarded his miner so that he could access it and check on it from anywhere. All it would take for someone to hijack the miner would be to log in with the default credentials ( root/root ) and then they could change anything they want.

The OP wasn't able to login to his miner since the default login would have been changed by the person who hijacked it. I don't think it's a software bug, if there was a bug like that in the firmware I suspect we would have heard about it already, and have others complaining about similar issues, but I think the fact that the OP mentioned that it was port forwarded and using the default logins is a dead giveaway that it was hijacked and the login details were changed.

I use teamviewer on my local subnet and never had a security issue in two years.
If you hook your miner straight to the internet you will get hacked.
I would notice my Linux machines getting hacked pretty fast, it would overload my internet connection when they started using it to push a crapload of data and Comcast would just block the ip.
TeamViewer all the way for me.
I've heard of people having their wallets stolen while having Teamviewer available on their machine, not sure I'd trust using it with my equipment ( or at least not with the default configuration - short username/password).

Like I mentioned a few pages ago in this thread, a home VPN is so easy to set up with a Raspberry Pi, and most modern routers even offer the feature to enable a home VPN. Much safer than just port forwarding and relying on your username/password being secure to avoid hacking, at least with key-based VPN authentication. Plus, if you have multiple miners to monitor you just navigate to their IP addresses, rather than trying to set up different ports so you can access each miner over the internet.

How do you setup VPN with RPi, I have a RPi laying around that I could use?

When I set mine up, I followed this tutorial. Didn't have any issues when I followed this tutorial a few months ago.

Anyone out there doing remote monitoring or access to your S7s ?

I tried the Minerlink thing at Bitmain, but doesn't seem to work.

Any good way to do the monitoring / access from outside?

Someone recommended "teamviewer" but i prefer a freeware solution?

I would like to monitor hashrates, temp, etc and ability to reboot the S7s.

Port forwarding is your friend.  There are literally numerous ways to configure port forwarding.
You could simply install vnc server (most of which are free) on a box on the local lan and port forward to it on the router and use it for remote control if you don't want to configure multiple port forwards for each unit.
I'm surprised at how many people here suggest software application beyond network configuration given this is all networking.

If he has a RPi he could also set up a home VPN and just connect to that to navigate to the miner's interface. Might be a little safer than configuring all the miners to be directly accessible over the Internet.

Unfortunately Bitmixer has a limited number of slots. In recent days they have removed several users because of the red trust. But they can be already filled...

Bitmixer was closed for new participants for a while and it opened again just few spots since the number of its participants was reduced because of the - trust ban.

Sorry guys, didn't realize that.

"Error! There are no free slots for new participants. Please try again later."

I guess I am too late?  Grin
Sounds like the campaign is currently full.
138  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [9000 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: November 17, 2015, 10:14:22 PM
Why is Slush having so much bad luck these last 4+ weeks?  I've been monitoring several of the large mining operations like AntPool, BTCC and F2Pool, their luck is nothing like Slush's they are doing great.
With 6, 8 even 11 hours starting to become normal place it leads me to believe something in slush's setup is misconfigured.  No pool should continuously have such horrible luck for such a long time as this.  Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on?

It's just luck. I've been mining on Slush's pool for over 2 years now and you get some good days and some bad days but in the end it all evens out. Right now the 30 day pool luck percentage is 92% which is a little lower than we'd like to see but I really don't think it's a misconfiguration. It sounds like slush knows what he's doing and has for over 5 years now with the pool.

hi
I joined this campaign on 14th november but now when I input my UID its showing no free slots available. So is it closed for new participants?

When you join, did you check that your UID is active in Bitmixer script?

I'm not suprised that now you have message like this - you own signature from another campaign..

I want to rejoin..are the spots available?
If you put the Bitmixer signature in and input your UID in the signature bot you should be automatically enrolled. I don't think Bitmixer has a limited number of slots so you should be fine to join.
140  Economy / Services / Re: Up to 0.035 BTC weekly for YOUR SIGNATURE *New rules on: November 08, 2015, 04:47:54 PM
Looks like the bot isn't working... My stats aren't showing up, and I tried inputting a couple other user ID's in the campaign as well and nothing shows up when searching for them. Is anybody else having similar issues?

My stats are showing but i haven't posted and it shows only 0 posts. Try again later.
Figured out what the issue was. I was pressing the enter button on the form instead of actually clicking on the "Submit" button when I tried to view my stats. Apparently that just reloads the page and does nothing so the Submit button needs to be clicked on.
