If the message verifies successfully, you are redirect to a set a new password page
That creates another angle of attack: people lose (or even sell) private keys, which would give someone access to their account.

But if someone sells his own private key, or loses it, this is entirely his fault.

This is different from a hacked account, which is a lot more unsafe.
As a private key can be stored 100% offline.
12202  Other / Meta / Re: When will the account recovery problem be solved? on: June 24, 2018, 11:17:22 AM
i think this could be easily solved using a form on a login page.
You just click on "my account was hacked"

Then you enter your username, your registered address  and the page tells you to write today's date and sign the message.

This could be easily checked, maybe even automatically if someone uses a script like brainwallet's website.

If the message verifies successfully, you are redirect to a set a new password page

I just wired some money to Kraken. How long does that usually take, for a domestic wire transfer?
This will be my largest purchase since 2015. Hopefully there's more blood soon.

I feel good to see this kind of optimism here. I have some fiat ready in a exchange just waiting for the bloodbath too.

Wall observer could save a lot of newbies and weak hands if they could find it.

It's been years since we've had people in endless queues waiting to get a message back from either Cyrus or theymos, and none of them answering for some reason, even after sufficient cryptographic proof was presented (typically, a signed bitcoin address).

Here is what I don't understand.... Theymos is intelligent when it comes to programming.  He could easily create a type of account that had limited moderator abilities - specifically  the security rights to unlock an account.  A trusted user (like me) could spend some time to review signed messages and restore accounts, reducing workload.

I guess he just does not prioritize account recovery.  I understand his reasoning, since losing your account is, in most cases, your fault.

Unfortunate events can happen to everyone. Even satoshi lost his gmx account and said account got eventually hacked and exploited. It can happen to anyone. Keeping email accounts and forum passes online it's not the same as keeping your private keys offline (which never touch the internet). As soon as something touches the internet there is a % of disaster out of your reach, like a security breach on the email provider's side and so on.

I agree. Everyone can be hacked. Maybe not everyone ,but most of people.  not everyone here is a cyber security expert, there is a lot of diversification here in this forum.

people have different life styles. Some people use multiple devices (if someone travels a lot), or they can trust some third party password manager that got hacked... There are many things out of our control, and one security solution that works for one person may not work for another as they have different habits

We are not talking obvious spammers, but legit posters getting their account hacked, signing various BTC addresses and never getting a reply back. I think this is unfair and a bigger problem than some 3rd worlders spamming on 100+ page threads. Some legit users just can't get their accounts back, they lose their PM history and other valuable stuff.

I wonder when will the account recovery methods be improved. Probably hiring new staff to do the task should do.

Yeah, this is very important as they are legit users. Most of them with quoted signed messages... I see some of them are having their account back, but it takes too long.

I think people look at those post where people ask for help and most users may think that they have nothing to do with it.

But we all could have our accounts hacked... This is a problem that concerns every legit user.

Maybe this process of address signature verification could be made faster.
12208  Local / Brasil / notários usarao blockchain para substituir cartórios - João Amoêdo on: June 21, 2018, 01:09:57 PM

https://m.facebook.com/JoaoAmoedoNOVO/photos/a.354079238363580.1073741828.353551475083023/474444189660417/?type=3&source=57

12209  Economy / Economics / Re: SEC documents detail scores of fraud allegations against Coinbase on: June 21, 2018, 12:32:55 PM

Why not try localbitcoins? I think it is the best site to use in order to halt coinbase's attempt to centralize bitcoin trades there.

An exchange is way more secure and convinient than local bitcoins...

I think the excess of regulations in us are becoming a problem that is acting like a barrier so new exchanges can't join the market.
12210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Contract address? on: June 21, 2018, 12:15:42 PM
Wrong board, this should be in altcoin discussion. Move the topic before it gets deleted.

Anyway, I think the answer for this question is ONE contract only.
12211  Local / Criptomoedas Alternativas / Re: BNB potencial lucro? on: June 21, 2018, 12:45:39 AM

https://wallet.tether.to/richlist

12213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tether is a scam - ruined bitcoin price on: June 20, 2018, 07:15:10 PM

Yeah, tether is very risky, as are the exchanges that hold it.

When you buy tether you become a credor tô that Company, which promises to pay you back 1 usd for each tether you own.

Although bitfinex and tether share he same CEO, and they have a lot of money, it's very risky.

Take a look at tether rich list,

https://wallet.tether.to/richlist

You will see that some exchanges are the biggest credors of tether. If tether has a problem, well, these exchanges are fucked up as people who have money there.

I highly recommend you do not leave your savings on those exchanges

I wrote about this here

How to Bet Agains Bitcoin Without Risk?

I thought about shorting bitcoin in bitfinex but i think there's risk of a margin call... (even if I don't use leverage the exchange could close my position right?)

basically I want to bet against bitcoin without risk for the next 5 years

is this possible? how?

It's possible.
Go to coinmarketcap and print a lot of past charts
 build a small time machine
Go back in time and short bitcoin in all crashes.

Hilarious - still, if he goes back in time, there's a risk of him screwing up his future or some unforeseen butterfly effect that ripples through time, lol.

In all seriousness though, if you're 'betting' against something - money is involved and with it, inherent risks.

Lol I didn't consider this possibility.
He could do just one short then

12216  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Really need to undersand proof of state. on: June 20, 2018, 05:14:59 PM

2) When proof of state, node takes transactions ,puts it into block , someone validates and that node (this specific node whoever did it first) updates his ledger, publishes it? what if 51% of other nodes agreed and 49% not agreed? is someone's money taken?. what if 49% agreed and 51% disagreed? i don't know whose money is taken , when the person who validated the block injured?

The link Bob mentioned is Very good, I learned from there..

If there's a disagreement like you suggested the 49% will lose their stake. It's like a bet.

One important thing is that when you stake your coins they are going to be hold until the network reaches the consensus. If someone is trying to cheat (creating an disagreement) they will lose their stake.

It's similar to the mining process in pow.
If you mine a block with glass transactions you will lose your work (electricity)

People read about fungibility in Wikipedia and about segwit on bcash blogs and take these crazy conclusions.

People to lazy to read books or good sources of information such as GitHub ... As a result, bad investments, such as bcash.
12218  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: The world we live in....... on: June 19, 2018, 10:21:55 PM
A world where the top 3 publicly known richest people have more wealth then the ENTIRE bottom half of the world's population.

In America there are more than enough homes to provide shelter for every person yet there are many that are still homeless.  I was in Los Angeles last week and parts of that place look like a 3rd world country with all the tent communities.

People are so brainwashed they treat Elon Musk like a god yet he is part of the problem.  He is just another Capitalistic overload like Bezos.

Capitalism is destroying our lives.  Suicide rates and depression are higher than ever before.

A truly advanced civilization would be so far removed from our current system.  We are able to produce more than enough for everyone but we do a absolutely terrible job of allocating resources.

No one is self made.  Every single rich person gets rich off the work of others, the structure of society, or just people in general.

Yet every attempt at replacing capitalism with a "fair" system has ended in a catastrophe. I once lived in a country that had no unemployment, no homeless, no gay people, no illicit drugs, and very little crime. Paradise, right? No. Apparently greed is a huge motivator and once that is removed and replaced with a repressive regime that sends you to Siberia if you dare to doubt the fairness of the system, then all that's left is apathy, corruption, and alcohol.

Norway.

Could you guys please tell me about this situation in Norway?

Here I'm Brazil socialists always say they want to make a socialism like Norway's. We don't have much information about this country here. Where can I read about it?
I didn't knew about this Siberia trains

..

You are wrong for 2 reasons.

The first one is this:
You are trying to see the third world from Los Angeles! Wrong direction. Consider staying few weeks in any of these countries...

A few weeks may be not enough... but I suggest you try to read about some those poor countries problems. They have completely different causes of poverty, and a different kind of poverty. I believe poor people in Los Angeles have much more opportunities than poor people in Venezuela or Brazil, where even the mid class doesn't have much opportunities...

The second reason is that these 3 richest people on the world are a problem caused by the governments, not by capitalism.

I don't even know who these people are, but for sure they made lots of money through government subsides, or they have very little competition in their business due to regulations.
12220  Local / Português (Portuguese) / Re: Banco de criptomoedas on: June 19, 2018, 05:10:39 PM
Me parece meio contraditório a ideia das criptomoedas, certo ?
