12261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 09, 2014, 09:31:29 PM
This coin is very difficult to set up wallet and start mining unless you are a programmer or hacker Grin

Been trying for a few hours now to get my head around this and I think I'll have to give it a miss until a normal wallet and pools are setup unfortunately.

Well that's just too bad. There are so many people who have reported the exact opposite (thousands based on the hashrate!), so I'm very sorry to hear that you've run into troubles.

I'm not a programmer nor a hacker, but I will be here for the next 10-12 hours, and am willing to help you with whatever troubles you may have run into as I've not had them Wink

If I can't get it done, there are others here who can help you!

Thanks very much for your offer. I seem to be mining but on my i7 quad core I'm probably wasting my time even though I like a challenge.

My mining hashrate seems to be 11.xxx using 4 cores is it worth mining with that?

P.S. I love this coin and the difficulty with mining it really interests me Smiley

You are not wasting your time, you have the same chance to get a block as anyone else, and you are contributing to run the network the same as anyone else. Someone with 100 computers has 100 times the hash rate but they spent 100 times as much to buy computers and they are spending 100 times as much on electricity.

You might try bumping up the cores. Does that processor have hyperthreads? Some have reported good results and still having a usable computer with 6 or 7 threads.

And remember to email your favorite exchanges about adding MRO.

+1000

I'm glad I am able to help out the community by operating the OTC exchange thread but it is a ton of work and i'm looking forward to being replaced by a computer!

Also, if you want to support the pool developer contribute to the open source pool bounty. We are building a whole new ecosystem of superior crypto here. Not being a bitcoin/shitcoin clone means that everything needs to be built from the bottom up.  You can help:

12263  Economy / Lending / Re: Loans offered on: May 09, 2014, 09:12:19 PM
The active tkoed loan is now overdue. The borrower has been in diligent contact with me and I do not believe is trying to "scam" in any way, but has had some setbacks making it impossible to stay current on the loan. I have offered options for restructuring the loan and have provided a 7 day cure period. If the loan is not brought up to date or restructured within 7 days I will be keeping the collateral and payments to date, as agreed.

After 7 additional days the loan was not brought up to date and we did not work out a restructuring (I proposed a few alternatives including one that only required a payment of about 0.1 BTC). Thus the loan has clearly defaulted and I have repossessed the miners.

I don't think the guy was a scammer because he really got nothing good out of the deal and if he wanted to just back out he could have just disappeared but instead he sent me many PMs about the situation. I think he just had some bad luck in life and this didn't work out for him.

Onward.

Loan window is open.

12264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 09, 2014, 08:43:18 PM
I consider carefully all about monero. I suppose unfair distribution happens due the super-optimized miner probably

Can super-optimized miner be a reason of my impossibility of mining? I didn't get any results

Probably just CPU farms mining the most promising new coin.  You'll get a chance whenever the pools come out.

Or just be patient and wait to get lucky. Mining doesn't need to be a steady income. Sometimes you have to dig and dig and dig through worthless dirt and then you finally find a nice big gold nugget!

So is BitStamp going to refund the excess fees they mischarged customers?

Mischarged is going to far. It was according to their posted (but dumb) policy.

They can certainly refund if they want to do that as a customer relations move, but I don't see any mischarging here.

Remove WTB 0.000905 / 552 MRO / 0.5 / dreamspark {Full}

Add WTS 0.0012/ 550 MRO / 0.55/ dreamspark

Price doesn't multiply out on this one. Maybe 0.66?

Hi I am keen

Would you accept it in CINNI?

and are you on IRC freenode also per chance?

Cheers

edit ; Ooops I thought I PM'ed this 'oh well'  Tongue

I'm on freenode in the #monero channel sometimes (I am right now).

I'm not even sure what CINNI is but if that is some other coin and you want to post a cross trade between MRO and CINNI you can do that.

When out of the trading platform?

It is going to be a little while. This is not a bitcoin clone so its not just a matter of adding yet one more cookie cutter coin with the same API. It is real work for exchanges to support. Work is being done, be patient.

Meanwhile, we do have a trading thread. Come check it out. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=578192.0
12277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures on: May 09, 2014, 07:54:29 AM
I would like to invest in some of these coins but have tried to download and install the wallet by using the new binaries link but I don't get a wallet as such just some files.

Is there an idiots guide to creating a wallet so I can buy some coins to put in it or is there far more to it than that?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg6586737#msg6586737

This might help.

This coin is not a bitcoin clone and so it hasnt yet a graphics interface. Its command line for now. But there is a bounty for GUI and soon there must be one...

Remember to backup your wallet once you create it!

Are you on windows or linux btw?

Thanks for your reply and the link. I've already looked through that and it doesn't make much sense to me I'm afraid, perhaps if I spend some time on it later after work it might.

Yes its the graphics interface part that I'm not used to. Must have been spoiled with all the other coins I've tinkered with Smiley.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

I dont have Windows unfortunately but i think that all you have to do is:

1. Create a text file on the folder with the files
2. Put the following in the text file:

@echo off

tasklist /FI "IMAGENAME eq bitmonerod.exe" 2>NUL | find /I /N "bitmonerod.exe">NUL
if not %ERRORLEVEL% == 0 (
  echo Starting node...
  start /MIN bitmonerod.exe
) else (
  echo Node already started.
)

tasklist /FI "IMAGENAME eq simplewallet.exe" 2>NUL | find /I /N "simplewallet.exe">NUL
if not %ERRORLEVEL% == 0 (
  if exist wallet.bin.keys (
    echo Starting previous wallet...
    start simplewallet.exe --wallet wallet.bin
  ) else (
    echo Starting new wallet...
    start simplewallet.exe --generate-new-wallet wallet.bin
  )
) else (
  echo Wallet already started.
)

3. Save as the file and where it asks you about name write start.bat
4. Then in the folder a file named start.bat will appear. Just double click it. It will ask you for a password. Put a strong one and remember it! It will be your wallets password.

That's great thank you very much.

I've now got 2 command windows open, the first one (bitmonerod.exe) looks like its downloading the blockchain (black background with yellow scrolling text) and the second window (simplewallet.exe) has my wallet info at the top and a command prompt ([wallet ******]Smiley.

I assume that I now just have to wait for the blockchain to download?

Also, once you have the daemon synced you can start mining right from the wallet. Here's the mining guide (you've already done most of the first setup steps).

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg6586737#msg6586737

Be patient when mining! You might not get anything right away.

Change my order to WTS 0.001330 / 1080 / 1.43
!!

Changed!
12279  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitstamp TX Fee Exploit - Charge 1.16% instead of 0.2% without your consent on: May 09, 2014, 07:16:12 AM
They are still going to charge much higher than the posted fees in some cases. The minimum is $5, that's great. But what about $5.01? The fee should be $0.01002 but instead you will be charged $0.02. Okay the breakage seems capped at double now, but that's still a lot.

Their base fee is .5%.
If you place a $5 order you should be charged $0.025, but instead you will be charged $0.03.

In other words, even with their "fix", you'd get charged 20% more than advertised.

I see folks cheering because their answer to the situation was fast...
It's as if the people here would be happy to be served a plate of steaming shit in a restaurant, instead of actual food, as long as the waiter's fast.

Except that the subject of the thread says 0.2% which leads to the (almost) double fee on a $5.01 trade
