12343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Pay for DDOS Protection with Bitcoin! BlackLotus on: November 18, 2012, 04:36:57 AM
BitPay is excited to announce our newest merchant, Black Lotus, which offers DDOS protection services.

http://blacklotus.net

Normally I would not make a thread to announce a new merchant like this, but with all of the DDOS attacks coming to bitcoin businesses, all bitcoin webmasters should know that there's a protection service that can accept our money.

http://www.blacklotus.net/payments

Is this the announcement we were expecting yesterday? If it is, then welcome to the Wright-BFL club.  Grin

This is great news, Tony (or is it Steve?).

I learned that trance music may not have been invented in, but was most influenced by hippies residing in Goa, India in the early 1990s.

I was in Goa on Christmas day in 1991, in a trance while getting laid my a Russian named Olga. To this day, I wonder if there's a little Bruno roaming the streets of Yaroslavl, Russia.

12347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WordPress.com accepts Bitcoins on: November 17, 2012, 11:00:45 PM
Just read their press announcement. The bitcoin option isn't meant for users like you. This is for people who have trouble using CC and paypal.
Yep. I do not have a credit card, so I also can't have a paypal account. If I want to buy something online, I can either wire the money, or beg one of my friends to order it for me (or go to the bank and get a credit card, but I am way too lazy for that). Using bitcoin for me is a total no-brainer, and I'm sure I'm not the only having this problem.

Unless something changed most recently, anybody can open a LIMITED-USE PayPal account without giving a CC or any other bank info. They can even use a pseudonym (must at least look like a real name--Randy Folds may not cut the mustard).

Attendance: Up to 100 individuals may attend your event. (Only individuals who have attended an official TED conference in person may organize an event with more than 100 attendees. I.e., the primary license holder -- the individual whose name is on the application form -- must have attended a TED conference. Having attended a TEDx event does not qualify you to host an event for more than 100 guests.)

Time for Plan B.

This thread will be closed due to not seeing it happening mainly because of TED's rules.

12350  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Maybe Gavin could speak at TED on: November 17, 2012, 05:34:29 PM
TED is about "the vision thing"; somebody really good at public speaking and putting together compelling presentations should do it.

Somebody who actually enjoys travelling around and speaking about something they are passionate about.  I want to spend my time building stuff, not talking about stuff.

PS:  I think bitcoin needs another year of growth before it is TED-worthy.

12351  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Trendon Shavers-Philip Moustakis-United States Securities & Exchange Commission on: November 17, 2012, 04:31:42 PM
Which is why each and every one of us needs to look at our own belief structure and decide how the cost/benefit equation works for us personally. For some, working with the SEC and other investigators to pursue "traditional" justice will be the right call. Others might shy away from this because they don't trust the "traditional" methods to treat them right, or to stay out of a wider investigation that might net things as-yet unthought of to review. Yet others still might choose to find Trendon, and take their retribution out of him physically, or the threat of doing so out of his family unless he is willing to ransom their lives with his stolen gains.

And some may even go through different versions of this cycle to decide what is the right way for them personally. There is no universal truth on how to best prosecute a scumbag like pirate. Personally I think that having the SEC mess up his life for the next couple of years with an investigation is a damn good start, assuming they have frozen all of his assets and taken the sorts of precautionary moves that they and their wicked step-sisters at the IRS are known for. But the whole "hold a gun to his head until he decides to find honor" has a certain appeal too.

Where's my buddy, Loup. He hasn't been active since the 4th unless he's in cloak mode.

I believe that people have been getting refunded for their orders that have requested it...

I am sure BFL can handle the occasional refund. But what happens if everyone want's out at the same time (e.g. Tom/bASIC starts delivery before BFL does, or BFL delays shipments to 2013, etc.)?

For those of you old enough to remember the year 2000 here is what happens where everyone want's out at the same time: Crash

Wow Frizz23,you seem to have some fixation with BFL.Your last months of posts have been nothing but attack after attack on BFL.

You need to seek help dude.If you don't,we will hear about you on the news...................... Roll Eyes

Personalize this in a touching human story about one blogger who was enabled by Bitcoin and we'd have powerful PR . This kind of thing is perfect for Bitcoin's image, and is a perfect antidote to the "black market" and "money laundering" image.

Search around the internet for some kids in Africa with a blog site on Wordpress.  Convince them to accept donations in bitcoins, a handful of us chip in, and with like 3 BTC they can upgrade and improve their blog.

Thanks to your post, I discovered Heather Mansfield.
