1241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin [VTC][ANN] Segwit Activated | ASIC Resistant Decentralized GPU Mining on: October 22, 2017, 10:48:13 AM
What a pain in the ass it was to send coins. Fully synced latest wallet keeps dropping nodes and NEVER has more than 1 active node. Every time I went to send coins it would drop connections and leave the transaction unconfirmed. The only way to recover my coins was to close the wallet, delete mempool.dat and restart the wallet with the -zapwallettxes option. It took me over an hour to be able to find some node in Russia that would stay synced long enough to be able to send the transaction. Hard to believe a coin that's been around as VTC can't put out a wallet or official list of the nodes so thae dam thing stays synced!
1242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Breakdowns: How often and typical issues? on: October 22, 2017, 02:03:12 AM
Fans being the only moving parts in a rig are definetly the most common point of failure. The goal is to keep temperatures at a constant, moderate level (below 75C). It's a good idea to use supplemental fans, like a $20 box fan to keep good air circulation and remove heat around the cards. That makes the card fans work more efficiently, so you don't have to turn them up high. Which prolongs the life of the fans. Fans running 24/7 at 80% or higher will wear out quickly, <12 months. It's also much cheaper and easier to replace a box fan than multiple card fans. If you have more than 2-3 rigs in a room, you will probably need to look for ways to exhaust the air, so that it's not just circulating the same hot air.

GPU's are otherwise very resiliant to mining. If you have a problem with a GPU, you will usually know it soon after buying it. I just had to RMA my first GPU that died after just 3 months (would turn on and was detected by Windows, but no video output and it would not mine). That card, a Asus STRIX RX 580, would crash and oveclock much less than other similar cards I have.
1243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Does anyone know how to mine BCC (bitcoin cash) solo? on: October 21, 2017, 10:08:36 PM
Is there an update on this sub.? I would like to know if solo is posable.

Possible? Of course it's possible. Is it a good idea unless you have a several hundred TH/s farm? You'll probably have better luck playing the lottery. You can use a profitability calculator to see how long it would take you on average to solve a single block solo mining.

I have the same board and found the triple ATX cables to be the best solution for daisy chaining 3 PSU's. The PSU's come on and shutoff together. When I was using multiple Add2PSU adapters, the last PSU would remain on if I shutdown the system.

mainly the RX 580 whats the best way to OC this thing? driving me insane....
Afterburner doesn't work, Bios wont seem to update (unless I'm getting bad ones)

can anyone help me out here?

Thanks

Can you share what kind of memory your RX 580 has, you can find it with GPU-Z program. If it has Hynix memory it cannot be overclocked through the Afterburner utility so you must use a bios modification. Go on youtube and search "RX580 bios mod" a lot of videos will pop up, BuriedOne and Bitbetrippin are the best guys in modifying the bios of such cards.

Nonsense. Do you really think gamers would want to buy a card they couldn't overclock? Most of my AMD RX 570/580 cards have Hynix memory and I overclock and undervolt them all of them with Afterburner v4.4.0 beta 19. Since AMD changed the API starting with the Crimson Relive v17.7.2, you have to use Afterburner v4.40 beta 16 or higher with the AMD blockchain drivers or Relive drivers higher than v17.7.1. You also need to use the pixel patcher with a modded Bios to bypass the AMD driver signature check or it will show a Code 43 in Windows Device Manager and you won't be able to overclock or use the card.

https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-AMD-ATI-Pixel-Clock-Patcher

Sapphire Nitro + and Sapphire Pulse RX 570/580 cannot go above 24.3 to 24.7 Mhash with Hynix memory. I increase the clocks from latest Afterburner and also the memory to maximum, but the hashrate stays the same.

Of course with a bios mod is a different story and they reach 30-31 Mhash but why these cards differently from Samsung memory which through afterburner goes to 27.5 Mhash without a bios modification. That's what I am saying. Trust me I have setup lots of them for a few friends and all of them with Hynix memory unfortunately.

When I bought my cards, I tested them before and told seller, if they are not with Samsung memory I will not buy and they agreed because I know them. So my RX480/580 are all with Samsung memory which is clearly better than Hynix.

Many RX 570/580 cards have more than one memory type. My Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580 8 GB cards all have dual timings with Samsung straps in the 1: index and Hynix straps in the 2: index. Some are identified as having Samsung memory in GPU-Z and the others show up as Hynix in GPU-Z. All of them were modded with the Polaris Bios Editor v 1.62 from jaschaknack 'one click timing patch' which applies the bundled performance straps for each of the memory types.

The Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580's identified as Samsung in GPU-Z can only overclock to 2100 MHz max on the memory in Afterburner before they produce tons of memory errors in HWinfo and get 30-30.5 MH/s max with 1150 MHz core overclock. The cards identified as Hynix I can overclock the memory in Afterburner to 2200-2250 MHz and the get 30.5-31+ MH/s. So I would not say Samsung is clearly better than Hynix for AMD cards, since the Hynix cards clearly overclock better with the timing straps I used.

I also have Asus STRIX RX 480/580 8 GB cards that only have Samsung timings. Those I can only overclock to 2000 MHz on the memory, getting 28.5-29.5 max with the PBE v1.62 Bios mod and those are the lowest hash rate Polaris cards I have. In any case, to maximize the hash rate of your AMD Polaris cards for ETH mining, you must overclock the core, memory and Bios mod the timings.

Mattthev also has a good guide to Bios modding your AMD cards to maximize their performance.

What time exactly will mining start?

There is no steal exactly information about it ...
Just check https://btcgpu.org/
On their github it says
Quote
Bitcoin Gold (codename BTCGPU) is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain that will occur at block height 491407, at roughly 12:00:00 UTC October 25, 2017.

On October 25th, the fork will happen and the BTC blockchain will be frozen. My understanding is mining won't start until the fist week of November, if the fork goes smoothly and if the developers can get the switch to Equihash working in time.

https://github.com/BTCGPU/BTCGPU/pull/15

As of yet, replay protection isn't implemented, so the launch could also be postponed

1250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum mining difficult down a LOT on: October 21, 2017, 10:15:14 AM
Block times also went down by more than 50% from >30 seconds to <14 seconds. Before the Byzantium fork ~10 ETH/min were issued, now ~12+ ETH/min.

I would not be surprised to see a hybrid POW/POS implementation sooner than people think. In the last Ethereum developer meeting it was discussed preparation for the POW/POS implementation is at a point where it could be released in the next hard fork, Constantinople, which should be within 6-9 months.

1251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Zec/Zen Mining? on: October 21, 2017, 02:31:15 AM
AMD RX 470/480 570/580 should easily get ~310+ H/s on Equihash with a 1250-1350 MHz core clock and 1950 MHz memory overclock. Power consumption is pretty high though. Almost the same as ETH mining.

On Windows 10 Pro you can set Windows Update to not include drivers. Type 'gpedit' in the search box and in the Group Policy Editor navigate to Administrative Templates ==> Windows Components ==> Windows Update and set 'Do not include drivers with Windows Update' to enabled.
1254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: need bios mod asus rx480 dual on: October 20, 2017, 06:48:10 PM
I suggest trying the Polaris Bios Editor v1.62 'one click timing patch' from jaschaknack

https://github.com/jaschaknack/PolarisBiosEditor

The bundled performance straps work great for most cards and take the guess work out of where you should copy the timings. Just load the original Bios in PBE after making a backup, click the 'one click timing patch' button, save the Bios and flash it to your card with Atiwinflash. With a modded Bios you also need to bypass the AMD driver signature check using the pixel patcher after you flash the card or the GPU will have a Code 43 in Windows Device Manager. BBT did a great video on how to mod a GPU Bios with links to all the programs you need.

That's called Vardiff.

http://give-me-coins.com/support/faq/what-is-vardiff/

Higher difficulty shares have a proportional value, so the payout is the same, e.g. if you submit 100 shares at diff 100 or 50 shares at diff 200 your share of the block is the same.
1256  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: $100 USD/day with one 6x1080 Rig [Best kept secret] on: October 20, 2017, 10:17:27 AM
The block reward is the same regarless of how much hash power you have. OP claims he's finding 9 blocks a day with 950 MH/s, which is 600% more than what i'm averaging. Proportionally I should be finding ~3 blocks a day with 320 MH/s to have the same profitability.

I have saphire nitro 470 4gb cards (mining edition) with samsung memory. Any on modifying the bios? Should I just copy the 1500 straps all the way, or?

Thanks

BBT has a Bios modded for those card in the description of the live stream video he did on them.

Don't think AMD does as well as Nvidia. Here is the Nexus AMD miner by Wolf0.

I've been solo mining NXS with a GTX 1080 and 1070 getting 320 MH/s and averaging a block every two days. Definitely not bad, but nowhere near the OP profitability claim.

1260  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v10.0 (Windows/Linux) on: October 20, 2017, 01:22:27 AM
Windows 1709 update that came out today breaks Claymore 10. It says the opencl.dll is now missing and will not start.

Update: Reinstalling the video card driver corrected the problem. Turns out the Windows 1709 Update dumps the video driver.

is amd blockchain driver still compatible with win10 ver 1709? yesterday i reformatted 1 rig because of this unwantted upgrade.

The AMD blockchain driver works with the v1709 build but the problem is the Windows UI becomes unresponsive and unstable. I did a clean install back to v1703 until a new driver is released. Supposedly there will be an updated driver later this year that will increase the maximum limit of 8 of the same GPU type in Windows 10.
