Tor attack:
http://www.wired.com/2014/11/operation-onymous-dark-web-arrests/

As you can see, I'm still here posting away  Grin

THE SHEER NUMBER OF TOR-HOSTED SITES AFFECTED BY THE TAKEDOWN RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT WHETHER LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS MAY HAVE FOUND NEW VULNERABILITIES IN TOR’S WELL-TESTED ANONYMITY SHIELD.

Things that make you go hmmmm....

Quote from: clueless
Just how law enforcement agents were able to locate the Dark Web sites despite their use of the Tor anonymity software remains a looming mystery.

Wonder if the fact that the NSA funds TOR and run most of the exit nodes might have something to do with it? Wink

[2] - Crypto has a lot of nice, hard working, visionary, principled and intelligent people working in it. It also has a lot of dog-eat-dog scumbag double crossing egomaniac filfth working in it. Unfortunately, the latter group don't wander around wearing "dog-eat-dog scumbag double crossing egomaniac filfth" badges, so they're not exactly easy to identify. Evan is in a vulnerable position when it comes to colaborative ventures. I'd say that unless he knew the guy from when he was 2 years old, went to school with him, fell out and back in with him 15 times and knew him to be of platinum degree integrity, he should regard all overtures as if they were wearing such badges.
Completely agree.

I'm pretty shocked that some other members of The Foundation let this get as far as it did. There's no room for naivety here.

Who exactly is Ryno? What's his name, address, real world track record, where are his references? Sticking some code on github under a pseudonym and making big promises about shit that hasn't happened yet doesn't remotely cut it when you're dealing with something this big.

Whoever leaked that document did DRK a big favour.

are they not producing open source software?
Also this. Wink

alcohol?

And there's a reason why alcohol is illegal to drink unless you're over 18 in most countries.

And no I'm talking about heavy duty shit that you get addicted to from the first time you take it.

Google krokodil, look at some of the images and then get back to me with your "alcohol" arguement

yes i agree, all drugs should be legal for people over 18.

But not just yet, eh, I want a bit more real world use for DRK first.  Wink

Some lunatic somewhere will always be fighting a War On Something though, until we learn to identify and strangle the reptiles and politicians at birth. Plenty of things will remain illegal for the forseeable future. Smiley

lucas you need to think a bit more about your stance on drugs. Prohibition doesn't work, never has, never will, and having the market underground just greatly adds to the harm, not only to users, but to our whole society.

Holy shit, 1:43 - that's my wallet.

Hope I don't get raided before breakfast.

"Coming up after the break, we tell you how a Company called Darkcoin is having to defend iteself from online drug purchases..."

Ahahaha.

There's the wrong end of the stick. And then there's the wrong stick. And then there's no fucking stick at all.

Who do all the aliases belong to?  Who's Rynomster, ATSECURE....who's the dot?

Ryno is the lead shadowcoin dev, ATC is Dan Metcalfe the XC 'dev' and .: is probably BobSurplus.  Cheesy

Crypto is a small and incestuous world, and it's reptiles all the way down.

Rynodude sounds like he's an actual coder. Dan sounds like a babbling sales reptile.

I just got multiple masternodes to form consensus, lock inputs, literally took 2 seconds to lock the transaction in place... then I tried to spend the same inputs for a higher fee. Works!

2014-11-07 01:13:18 ERROR: CTxMemPool::acceptableInputs()::InstantX : invalid transaction, conflicts with existing transaction lock CTxIn(COutPoint(365de7e2831dc8b85c2c94fef5f2b98e86a95e301879c5b3460db69df757deb9, 0), scriptSig=3046022100e2ca0a35ab1373)

Boss you worded that a bit confusingly... Wink

As the core idea of the merger was to acquire more developers. Let's start drumming up ideas how we can onboard new talent to the darkcoin team. There needs to be some sort of incentive or clever marketing to weed out some of the good devs

I'll happily donate half my MN earnings to a developer fund if devs are needed, and I think they are. As long as it goes to professional devs hired/contracted who have real names and real experience, not some faceless cryptognat clown.

Ideally, I think, funding for developers (if necessary - though I don't think it necessarily should be) would come from foundation funds.  There are problems with relying on voluntary community donations and major issues with siphoning funds from MNs or miners in a non-voluntary manner.

The idea with Shadowcoin was not primarily to gain more devs - that we could do anyway.  It was consolidation, on several fronts.  It's easy to get impatient with waiting for that to happen organically, and I think maybe that's what was driving this idea.  It was exploratory at this point, for what it's worth.  The fact that it leaked says quite a bit.  Better that it happened now I suppose.

Nice to see your around bro.

Seems like the good old days again...  Smiley

About funding, I just read this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=849434.0 - half a million $ for a crappy doge app. Have any efforts been made by The Foundation in approaching VC types? Ending up beholden to the paymaster is a big concern, but there are people out there seemingly rabid to throw cash at anything with the vaguest hope of a return... I am surprised that DRK hasn't had big money come knocking on the door yet...

Here is a image of the html5 ui that has a sdk being built right now for app devs to leverage.. Take note those are animated gif! Implementing a pos wallet into a mobile device is no easy step nor is spv lite wallet in pos code. Its why it has not been done to date..Peercoin, i believe they still have a 20k bounty for a working pos mobile wallet. They do not have a pos lite wallet still. So i'm sure you can agree this has already  been mischaracterised by thelonecrouton and has far more substance then the opinion you first have by building its source. Evan believes it does and so do the mature community and team behind it, i encourage you to look a little deeper.

This amazing wallet UI of yours is a web page. An animated gif in an html5 page! Congratulations!

I'm sorry that you don't see the benefit of allowing devs to code apps right into the wallet.

I see tens of megabytes of leaky browser christ-knows-what between me and my money, and the last thing I want in my wallet is a bunch of buggy vulnerable crapware plugins.

Yeah that's actually really sharp. How did you get that? All I did was compile the source from github. What else is needed?

It's html5, you point your browser at localhost:portnumber to connect to the daemon server, like NXT etc. Layout is easier in some ways and you can do video/audio a bit easier etc. but you're introducing megabytes of browser code between you and your money...

It looks shiny, but who wants a fucking media player in their wallet? I can play video on every widget surface in my pyQT simple wallet, but it's of no actual use...

Good Call for the first time ever I was considering selling my darkcoins. I invested in the dev and solid natural growth. Dark is a clean community, no scams, no fights, solid. Bringing in other groups can change this. SDC is rumoured to be linked to scamming community members and printing DarkCoin is a terrible idea.

+1

I would have waited maybe a day or two to see what the short term price did, then dumped and moved on.

I just compiled the SDC QT wallet and am not seeing any of this alleged eyecandy? I see a bog standard bitcoin wallet with a dark theme and a chat tab.

I made an encrypted p2p chat app in python in under a day a few months ago. Don't speak c++ so can't add it to the DRK QT wallet but it would be simple for anyone that could code in c++

I'm struggling to share the optimism here, or see much value in the proposition as it stands.

This is what the wallet looks like for me.

Yep, a bog standard bitcoin qt wallet with a dark theme and a chat tab. Are you disagreeing with me Huh

This is beyond preposterous for two reasons:

a) You're going to dilute my DRK holdings to merge us with some shitcoin nobody has ever heard of?

b) You have the power to do so? Isn't crypto all about decentralization and math-based consensus to a (relatively) immutable basic protocol? I realize we are still in the development stages of DRK and consequently Evan has an unusual amount of power (e.g. enforcement), but this is a real reach. One person creating more coins in direct contravention of the basic protocol? If Evan can create more coins any time he wishes, how is he any different than the Federal Reserve?

c) This *WILL* fork DRK. Guaranteed. Look at the massive amount of opposition so far...I haven't counted but it looks about 2:1 against. Even if you reverse those numbers, you will have a significant number of DRK owners who *WILL* fork DRK into another coin. And then what do you have? The exact brain-drain you were hoping to avoid, plus market ambiguity, plus a massive loss of investor confidence.

P.S. Even with the reward structure of future blocks being altered to prevent inflation, the creation of a superblock by the DRK devs *after implementation* will rock our coin onto its heels. If one person (Evan) can create more DRK for a good reason, what's to prevent him from creating more DRK for a bad reason (at some point down the road)?

I have been one of DRK's biggest supporters, and everybody here knows this. But hearing that the dev team is even considering something like this makes me almost want to sell my coins. It's that bad of an idea.

Yeah I'm not buying the 'unite and conquer' line either.

Even assuming a complete wealth transfer from SDC to DRK, that's about the same as a single good day on Bitfinex currently... it's not exactly going to rock the world.

Be that as it may, you are altering the reward structure by being able to print a superblock to increase the coin supply. It goes against what crypto stands for. The decision to change the reward in terms of balance between miners and masternodes didn't change the max coinage--it was still the same block reward, but split differently. What you're talking about is actually changing the amount of outstanding coins... please tell me you see that.

What happens 6 months from now when another opportunity arises, are we just going to print another superblock to merge with them? Where do you draw the line?

Agreed.

And if manpower is needed than crowdfund if needed and hire manpower, contractually obligated to turn up for work each day and produce results.

This merger smells of wishful thinking all round. Hope is not a plan.
