Gotta be said the ecology around Peercoin is one of the most diverse and has many prongs. Not many other coins have all of this.

1242  Economy / Economics / Re: Technological unemployment is (almost) here on: November 09, 2014, 06:26:53 AM
We had that system of about 50% employment for the centuries when men worked and women stayed home.

Yes, there will always be disparity, but the lowest income level has been improving in quality of life, and will likely continue to do so. Poor people still get the benefits of a house, running water, sanitation, electricity, and communications like cell phones and Internet, which they couldn't even dream of 100 years ago.

People having land doesn't matter. Land is just some dirt you can do stuff with. What matters is what's between your ears. You can use that in combination with land to grow food, build a house, or run a business, or you can use that without land to make money,  run a business, rent an apartment, and live anywhere. The main mistake poor people make is that they never accumulate any assets, instead spending all their money as soon as they get it. And those assets don't have to be land.  Even some stocks and binds, or just some cash in savings would do to start with.

Your kidding right. Land is all that matters. No matter if you dont have land you have nothing. I can charge you every cent you make to live on what you don't own.
1243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SilkRoad 2 Taken down by Feds on: November 07, 2014, 09:41:18 AM
Silk road 3.0.

here we come.

eventually it will be run on some sort or anon block chain / asset exchange. Eg the NXT asset exchange with many suppliers could probably do it.

Wont be able to take that down.

hi I have created the "wallet" and got a priv key.

What I dont get is this.

it the "wallet" just a hash of the name and password, or some function thereof.

or does it also store as a wallet.dat or similar somewhere on my computer.

That is do  I need to save a wallet file, or just the privkey, or my new name and password or all.

also does some one want to send test nem to

TD5J5V-ISSCBQ-27ECV4-XP4YLV-WUMRXY-A6C6DC-CBYV

Wallet file contains private key encrypted by your password.

Current software doesn't save real private keys in wallet (only test ones) so you have to do it manually.

Sent some test NEM.

thanks....where is the wallet file, and what is it format?

also how big is the block chain, mine seems to be stuck 7 days behind  @ 10081?

can some be clear if the btt holders on the list can claim thier nem yet or if this has not started, when will it start and how long will it run for?

the Phase 2 term for BTT holders seems to have been mixed up with Phase 2 AE stakes.

where can we watch to make sure the dead lines are not missed?
1248  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is here/Phase 2 Redemption begins[Updates&Discussion] on: November 02, 2014, 02:33:50 AM
I don't understand why the unclaimed stakes are not just left alone, it keeps everything in proportion roughly.

If devs want a bigger slice of the pie they should have said so at the beginning.

1249  Economy / Speculation / Re: So how much have you lost this year by investing in Bitcoin? on: October 31, 2014, 11:32:26 PM
I have lost nothing.....I hold BTC.

All other *wealth* is seizbale.

BTC make you sovereign.
1250  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will you do when BTC is 1M each on: October 31, 2014, 11:25:47 PM
I think it will happen sooner than later as in a few years.

The amount of valueless money sloshing around is in the many trillions. By valueless I  mean printed and given to friends of gov eg banks, quants, etc etc.

You can see it in the housing price, its got to the point round here that $5M buys you sfa as far as houses are concerned.

1251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is here/Phase 2 Redemption begins[Updates&Discussion] on: October 31, 2014, 11:16:48 PM
you just can seize stakes that have been paid for by NXT or whatever. Sure you can charge a reasonable holding in the don't turn up, or admin fee.

Don't go seizing them though.

Perhaps you could buy them back and hold the funds to give them back in funds purchased but this is second guessing what the purchaser wanted.

Things happen people don't log on.

I am you could say quite regular, but haven;t had nearly as much time as I would like to follow nem

Deadlines could only be used if they were clearly articulated at the the beginning eg terms and conditions of IPO
Dohhhhhhhhhhhh.......it wasn't an IPO......for the gazillionth time.......

what was it then?

it was a call for participation. not an ipo.

in an ipo you get a number of shares/coins that is directly corrolated to the amount you invested.

people payed a variable fee (that increased over time from 0 - ~700nxt) to join the movement. the benefit of join said movement is that you are allocated 1 million nem for your participation. every see "dallas buyers club"? so you did not invest and get 1 million in return for an investment. you  payed a nominal fee to join a movement and it just happens that one of the perks is getting 1 million nem. there is no legal binding in this deal that stakes must be held for x time..

Unless there was a specific statement to the effect non claimed stakes could be seized, the "join the movement" heading does not change this. Part of the joining was a precise numerical  equation based on given certain number of NXTs or something for something else. The Dallas buyers club is irrelevant, as it was not in the terms on nem.

Your claim

"you did not invest and get 1 million in return for an investment. you  payed a nominal fee to join a movement and it just happens that one of the perks is getting 1 million nem"

is orthoganal to the terms of NEM which stated exactly that you get a stake in nem for a certain consideration, you even note the variable fee

I note in to original thread post that it says
Quote
3. How can I get my shares ?

"You will need to access your BTT account to send a PM or make a post confirming the ownership of the account to claim your share. Detail instructions in an announcement will be posted here, NEM reddit, NEM facebook, ournem website and the announcement will last at least 1 month. It is your responsibility to read and follow the instructions to claim your shares. So please check back frequently. Thanks."

so this is to claim shares, and does cast responsibility back, however it does not set out what can be done if you don't claim shares. As usual terms are not complete confusion follows. Alts defn need some legal help, just for the sake of haveing better terms that stop things later. And by legal I mean not for court legal, but for experience to set out good terms.

however I don't know if this was edited in later.....probally not.

It is still better not to sieze stakes. Look at those people who bought in BTC early and forgot about if for years. they still have them if they kept the private keys.

...
This is the only way to avoid a ripple or NXT position.

No it's not.

It Achieves the original intent to spread as widely as possible, it keeps the stakes balanced to original spread.

No it doesn't. It spreads NEM to people that are already in cryptos. We want to get NEM out in the world to the average Joe. That will not be accomplished by holding NEM for people that don't even care enough to checkin for months on end.

>>>But how do you decide this, by retaining the original spread leaves the everyone with the same proprtion instead of in anway putting more power to say devs or any other allocation. The unclaimed shares are never wasted they make everyone else stronger. To sell them on the open market transfer wealth away from those who paid for them. In the IPO every one paid right?

It heads of accusations of scam.

Any accusations of NEM being a scam don't hold water anyway. If they want to make a fool out of themselves and claim NEM is a scam let them. They wouldn't be the first. Just like many people say NXT is a scam.

>>>I'm not saying NXT or NEM *is* as scam, far from it, but it does chop a leg out from a possible claim. NXT does suffer from this perception, and the cutting short of the intial IPO did not help.

This is what is commonly done in legal trusts, unit trusts, wills, and with bank accounts. You don't just sieze stakes

...
This was not an IPO so you can't compare it.

People who buy into IPO's but never realize their shares, dont have thier shares revoked
1255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is here/Phase 2 Redemption begins[Updates&Discussion] on: October 31, 2014, 07:16:56 AM
Dear Nemites.

I was active in the eXo thread, to force real escrow for eXo. I am sure a lot of people are happy this happened.

I suggest strongly here All unclaimed stakes must be held indefinitely for the people to claim. Only the cost to maintain the stakes them selves could be deducted from the stakes.

This is the only way to avoid a ripple or NXT position.

I can not emphasize this enough.

Any derogation from this position and all your hard work will be undermined.

1259  Economy / Speculation / Re: Canadian Housing & Bitcoin on: October 18, 2014, 02:43:58 AM
Sydney houses have returned 60% over the last 3 years, tax free if you live in it. That's pretty good return.

Quite a few suburbs have done 30~50% in the last year alone

Soon people will move their money out of all other forms of investments.... That will be the precursor to a big crash.

No the OZ GOV forces banks to not call in loans, as they did in the 80's. Thus is can never crash. Pretty simple really how does it help the gov to have 30%~50% of people kicked out of their homes.

Pro tip it doesn't.
1260  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bear Slaughter Repeat Track v the school of Hodl on: October 15, 2014, 06:24:31 AM
Highly doubt bitcoin can go up more than 1000. There is no easy money in the world.

If the status quo persists then I agree with you.  Only 500K-2M users and I haven't seen any indication of any large userbase expansion.   The internet back in 1989 had more users than Bitcoin currently does.

The number of new members here has been shrinking for a while too. Only 3800 people registered here so far in October. I know not every bitcoiner has an account here, but I'd imagine that many of them do.

Most people do not use forums but it can be used as an example where userbase expansion is slowing down on here and thus it could also be slowing down in the real world usage.

If someone within digital currencies can solve the mystery as to how to obtain exponential userbase growth (up to 200 million users) then they're going to be very wealthy.

this is a good point, but then again there us a limited number of users that will join a forum, eg, there was probably a tcip forum that flattened out at some point, but the internet still exploded.
