12562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: investopedia article on: March 06, 2015, 11:47:37 AM
The article is quite informative. I have used Paper wallets before so I knew about it. However, I could not get this part:

Multisig is another method is to protect Bitcoins. It involves creating a multi-signature transaction system under which more people (usually 2 or 3) need to approve the funds being released.

Is this like having a joint account? But in that case any account holder can withdraw the amount without the consent of the other account holder.

I don't think this Multisig method would work as what if one person is not available? The funds would be kept on hold till then? It's just going to complicate the things.

Im not sure what you want to tell me here. I dont care if you tell paypal their ToS are utter nonsense. Their employees probably agree after a few beer.

I assume you are saying: I have a house and let to a criminal. They signed a proper contract and all paperwork is correct.

What? Where do you live? If I go and start burning down cars in my hood tomorrow, why would my landlord be to blame?

@Bold: LOL! What I'm trying to say either you are not able to understand or don't wish to understand. PayPal has created their ToS taking into account the law & regulations. They have not imposed certain rules that are illogical. Whether a person follows those rules or not, that's the person's mistake but PayPal's rules are right by not letting money laundering.

@Green: People sometimes don't go through the paper work to save money just as some who sell their account don't bother to check who their buyer is.

@Red: I hope you don't do that  Cheesy I'm just trying to say that if my PayPal or any account in that case which verifies my identity as a person is sold to a fraud or criminal, I will be interrogated if not arrested no matter which country I belong to.

12564  Other / Meta / Re: Selling accounts is wrong or right? on: March 05, 2015, 08:49:17 PM
-snip-
In the case of an account, the person who originally owns the account is blamed if the buyer is a fraud.

Which is complete and utter nonsense. Why would you blame someone for selling their account if the new owner does shenanigans with it?

If you find it nonsense, then I'll need to tell PayPal and other websites as well that their TOC is utter nonsense right?

I am not only talking about bitcointalk accounts but also about all those accounts of websites that find it illegal and against their TOC.

For eg: If anyone gives their house on rent (which is legal) to a wrong person, what would be the outcome? Not only the person who was staying in the house will be blamed but also the person who owns the house. You will say that the owner has nothing to do with the crime but without any verification, selling/renting anything is considered wrong.
12565  Other / Meta / Re: Selling accounts is wrong or right? on: March 05, 2015, 08:38:31 PM
...
You guys should know that even if trading a bitcointalk account is forbidden, lots of people will still do it underground, people tend to violates the rules

Saying that people will do it underground makes no sense as a wrong thing is wrong. Making it legal out here does not make it right in anyway. People who want to scam or do illegal things will do it no matter what's the outcome but by imposing a law/rule may make things better.

We have a legal system in every country but still people commit a crime knowing that they will be punished. So does it mean that there should be no legal system in any country?
12566  Other / Meta / Re: Selling accounts is wrong or right? on: March 05, 2015, 08:13:46 PM
The problem for Mods is determining what is illegal, against someone's TOS, or legitimate. It would become their only job all day long. What I do is take note that an old, trusted account means nothing at all. Never trade based on trust. Satoshi's whole idea was a trust-less system.

I do think it's unethical even when it's legal. I will not sell my account, I may some day delete it, but not sell. I can only imagine why some one would pay me a few hundred bucks for it.

Hats of to you for saying this. I too will never sell my account as I believe it's not right and unethical to do so. For me, my reputation and self respect is worth more than the dollars that will be offered to me in exchange.
12567  Other / Meta / Re: Selling accounts is wrong or right? on: March 05, 2015, 08:10:12 PM

I agree with what you are saying, but it seams that we are just a few people, and its not like we can make forum owners to change the rules because we want them to.
If its of any value, i also give my vote to no longer allow account trades of any sort, because it can be used for nothing good.

When i do bussiness with someone, i want it to be that person, and not someone that just bought that account, and selling things like paypal accounts is only going to do damage to this forum because its not only wrong, but also illegal, and this forum shouldnt support activities as shady as that.

cheers

That's what I am trying to say. If tomorrow anybody files a complaint with PayPal, Amazon or any other website about the illegal activities going on here, it may cause the forum to be shut down. Too many illegal activities will ruin this forum which can be of help to many of us. I don't want it to happen.
12568  Other / Meta / Re: Selling accounts is wrong or right? on: March 05, 2015, 08:07:18 PM
I doubt its illegal. You might violate some companies terms of service though.

Trading bitcointalk.org accounts is allowed because a ban of those trades is considered unenforcable. It would be impossible for mods to enforce the rule, because sales would just happen elsewhere. It is however discouraged for the reason you stated. It allows someone to buy a trust rating.

Selling a "trusted" paypal account is certainly not a crime. Many things are used for money laundering and illegal things. I hear knifes are dangerous killing instruments, yet people use them daily to butter their bread. Dont jump to conclusions, I cant speak for paypal, but most bitcointalk account sales probably happen for paid signatures.

@bold: I meant Verified PayPal account. I am not jumping to conclusions dear but accounts which are verified and sold, can easily be used for Money Laundering purposes.

And about Knives being used to butter a bread and that being compared to buying an account? LOL

One may use a knife to commit a crime but in that case, the company or brand who manufactured the knife or sold the knife is not blamed. In the case of an account, the person who originally owns the account is blamed if the buyer is a fraud.
12569  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] Sears gift card worth $100 on: March 05, 2015, 07:51:56 PM
good one Cheesy though i dont need that gift card. still would appreciate if you could tell me the site

And I would appreciate if you buy my gift card.  Cheesy

Jokes apart. You can use Google as there are many websites which run contests throughout the year.  Smiley
12570  Other / Meta / Selling accounts is wrong or right? on: March 05, 2015, 07:49:44 PM
I feel left out here because I consider selling any account illegal. People in the Digital Goods section sell their forum account, Amazon account, Phone Numbers, Email accounts, PayPal accounts and I don't know how many more accounts are being sold and bought.

I can't get why is this allowed? I have just witnessed a "Trusted" member who sold his account and the buyer was indeed a scammer who tried scamming another member with the help of the Trusted account. I don't know how many times has it happened here.

Selling Trusted PayPal accounts is the biggest blunder as the buyer can use it for money laundering and illegal things while the seller will be blamed for those deeds and it is a CRIME.

12571  Other / Meta / Re: Change the rules! on: March 05, 2015, 07:41:56 PM
Promoting referral links is considered spamming everywhere but having a signature with a referral link I guess is fine while some forums don't even allow that.
12572  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] [++ RATES THAN DaDice] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: March 05, 2015, 07:17:22 PM
Plus vote to this idea hi marco and bitcoin boy please make a list like the last month we can see our post. It is tiring to every time writing my uid and checking it again and again.
Please do consider it

Thanks

I feel the way it was counted last month was a better method to do so as one should every time start from zero and not go negative.
12573  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] [++ RATES THAN DaDice] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: March 05, 2015, 07:13:40 PM
Like i can see , you removed some of your last posts thats why the bot writing -8 so you need to recover your -8 by posting new ones
Or you can call Marco to delete you and then return or to edit your starting posts ,

Edit : User : erikalui , uid : 141005 just register with 440 posts   2015-Mar-Wed 05:03:55

All respect ,
bitcoin boY

I removed the old "bumps" of December and January and I wasn't a part of any Signature campaign at that time. I have made so many new posts now which aren't being counted.

If I tell Macro to delete me, my 20-25 new posts are just wasted. I can tell him to edit my starting posts as that would be fine.  Smiley
12574  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] Sears gift card worth $100 on: March 05, 2015, 07:06:25 PM

Yes I could tell you the website that held the contest if you are interested in buying my Sears gift card.  Wink
12575  Other / Meta / Re: Madness Banned on: March 05, 2015, 04:50:47 PM

You don't need to trust whoever that is going to have a deal with you because we have some reputable escrow on this forum, as for the gift cards thing, im not really familiar with either starbucks or amazon gift cards.

How can I be sure that the person who is the escrow hasn't sold his account? The person will say that I need money and so I sold my account and his gain will lead to so many people losing their hard earned money.

That's what I'm trying to say that one wrong act of selling/buying accounts leads to so many wrongs here.
12576  Other / Meta / Re: Madness Banned on: March 05, 2015, 04:48:31 PM

Scams aren't moderated here and there is sometimes a legal grey area on certain things though we do usually remove stuff that are universally illegal (though you must remember sometimes something is legal in other places and not in others and sometimes something is not actually illegal just frowned upon and for othertimes it is hard to definitively tell (Starbucks cards may be obtained illegally but they also may not and we usually don't have proof either way). Also, what Hero member account are you talking about? It is quite rare that an account is bought to scam or at least that they're successful in it, but people should still use escrow and not just trust a random account because it has a little bit of trust.

I am talking about this hero account: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=143543

The user told me that he sold his account and the buyer turned out to be a scammer. Check this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=936429.0

Buying or selling accounts anywhere in the world is still termed as fraud. Amazon accounts are being sold here which is illegal in the eyes of Amazon and selling any account is illegal everywhere else people will start misusing the website by owning multiple accounts.

Is having more than one account on Bitcointalk forum allowed? If not then how can one bitcointalk member buy another account.

Sorry but what's wrong is wrong. What's illegal in one place is considered illegal. It's money laundering to buy and sell fraudulent cards and I can in no way support that. It's a crime.
12577  Other / Meta / Re: Madness Banned on: March 05, 2015, 04:33:17 PM

selling or buying an account is allowed here, although i might agree with you that some people aim a green trust account for some purposes, it could be for a good purposes or it could be for a scam attempt, and as for the fraudulent goods, i think there is no way to identify that it is obtained via a fraudulent wa

That's the major reason I don't trust any member out here even if they say they have 1000+ trust. This is illegal as one can create a new account here without any need to buy a "ready made" account. That's not a tough job to create a new account buy "buying or selling accounts" is definitely illegal without any second thoughts.

There is definitely a way to find if a gift card is fraudulent as people say that a "card" will expire in few days especially Starbucks cards. The cards have no expiry date and saying that they will expire proves that the card is bought using illegal methods.
12578  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] [++ RATES THAN DaDice] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: March 05, 2015, 04:25:37 PM
Just keep the record of your post done for the first week and I'm sure Marco will adjust your payment manually. And hopefully all will go smooth in the following weeks.

The bot has to rely on total posts number (don't think there's any other way to do it), so such things will happen from time to time.

Yeah may be that's the way out as now I have stopped checking the bot. It's making me feel stressed now  Cheesy

12579  Other / Meta / Re: Madness Banned on: March 05, 2015, 04:18:14 PM

Usually the ban is the first warning. I sometimes PM users giving a friendly warning but can't do it for everyone as it's very time consuming and sometimes they don't listen anyway. Though it may seem harsh I think the best course it to learn from it and put more effort into making relevant posts on their return.

I am first time going to praise the MODs for this action as I used to always feel that the forum is not being moderated due to the amount of spam/scam taking place here.

It's a request to even check the Digital Goods section where people are openly selling fraudulent goods, Amazon accounts and even their bitcointalk account. It's illegal and such topics shouldn't be created. I have recently witnessed a case wherein a Hero Member with positive trust sold his account and the buyer was a fraud who went to scam another person who sold him a product just because of his stats.
12580  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] Sears gift card worth $100 on: March 05, 2015, 04:11:38 PM
can you confirum me do they ship items to asia ? if yes i want to buy a thing a saw of their website

As per the website, it does ship to asia: http://www.sears.com/csinternationalshipping/nb-100000000367002

But again you will need to check which product you are buying and there will be a shipping charge as well. You can check that by trying adding a product to your cart and checking the shipping fee.
