1261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are 1070 TI's the next best GPU for mining? 4.7 sols per watt on: December 23, 2017, 06:29:53 PM
Good to know.  I have some EVGA FTW2 1070ti's coming on Friday ... (Hopefully) ... They are supposed to ship today.  I had some ZOTAC's on backorder and ended up cancelling those.  This will be my first NVIDIA rig build.
hopefully they rock! Our FTW2s have been our best 1070 TI, much better than the recent zotac 1070 TI mini's -- the ftw2 hashing 30-35 sols more w/ the same settings. The original zotac 1070 TI bought for testing performed well too though . . i sold that one xD

Hey Vosk,

I have my power down to 160W per card.  That's total power at the wall 960W divided by 6.  Power limit is set at 70%.  Core clock +200 and memory clock +700 on these FTW2's.  Averaging 525 sol/s per card.  When power was at 180W (80% limit in afterburner), I was getting a few more sol/s on each card.  I've never overclocked a gpu in my life, so this is making me slightly nervous ... Lol.  I'm not sure if I should keep going or not.  What do you have your FTW2's at?

Another question ... 3 of my FTW2's only have one fan running and I'm not sure why.  Any ideas?  I have my fan speed set to 80% in afterburner.  It's the back fan that's not running on all 3.

And there's more ...

I just set my fan speed to auto, and then back to 80% ... Now the only card with the back fan not running is the card on the end of my open air frame.  60 seconds later ... I have 3 back fans not running, but they aren't the same 3 cards as the first time.  Lol ... This is weird.  Do they not run constantly?  They'll just turn on when a certain temp is hit?
1262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: multiple pcie splitter on: December 23, 2017, 02:29:23 AM
You are just asking for headaches trying to go cheap and use a pcie splitter.  If you're going to build a multiple gpu mining rig, then build one.  You can get a good board with 6 pcie slots for under $150.  I'm using Asus Prime Z270-P's in both six gpu rigs that I've built and have yet to have a single issue after the bios is updated and configured properly.

Theory is exactly that ... Theory.  It your motive is to spend time proving theory, go right ahead.  If your motive is to build a stable mining rig, stay away from the pcie splitters.
1263  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Beginner questions. on: December 23, 2017, 02:18:37 AM
As long as we have newbies, this type of question will continue to be raised again and again. Most newbies are inexperience and to make things easier for them and in the best shortcut way as possible they tend to ask questions directly here. Thinking that it may sum up all what they need to know in one place.

Sum it all up in one thread? Lol ... Hate to break it to them, but it's a never ending learning process.
1264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How to split the investment - 20k for a little mining farm on: December 22, 2017, 05:11:44 PM
Hi there. I'm going to invest 20k for some rigs, considering that ethereum may go to PoS next year, I was thinking about taking something like:
1 rig with 8x 1070 (mining zcash or whatever is profitable)
1 rig with 8x vega (mining cryptonight)
3 rigs with 8x 580 each (24 GPUs total, mining ethash or whatever will be profitable)

How is this setup? Does it make sense to split the hardware like that to chase different mining objectives? Or should i just go for 48x 580s, 24x vegas or 32x 1070s?

I'd like to receive some tips, thank you.

If I had $20k for a set-up I would go;

35 * 1070ti ($15,715)
5 * 7 card rigs - 1200W PSU and nvOC on USB

If you have a mix of cards you will have to learn that much more.  You will run into problems, especially if you are running Windows 10. My best advise would be to learn how to disable Windows update.  Microsoft has fine-tuned that so you can't disable anymore through control panel or the stupid 'settings' anymore.

My next rig will run Linux.

You can easily prevent windows update from downloading and installing updates in Win10.  GPEDIT dude!  I built a 6 gpu Vega 56 rig a couple of weeks ago.  It's been stable as fuck.  Love that thing.  Zero problems.  Tonight I'm going to be building my first 6 gpu 1070ti rig.  Hopefully that will go just as smooth as the Vega rig did.

I wouldn't mix cards in the same rig, but I definitely want the experience of building AMD and NVIDIA rigs.  Having to learn that much more is not a negative.
1265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Making 2000 usd / month on: December 22, 2017, 03:00:35 AM
Personally, I would go with higher end gpu's, if it's within your budget to do so.  Only if you can get your hands on them at a reasonable price though.  I'm not saying go buy 24 1080ti's, because most expensive doesn't always equal best, quickest roi, or most efficient in energy usage.

If you're just starting out, I would also mix them.  Don't mix cards in the same rig.  But if you can build two rigs within your budget, build one NVIDIA and one AMD ... Try different things.  Get exposed to everything that you can.  It's only going to help you in the long run.

I wouldn't tell you not to buy the RX580's, but I'm going for higher end upfront, for longevity purposes.

There are just so many variables to consider.  Do extensive research on every gpu that you are considering.

I am looking to invest in some cheap CPUs to mine monero and others, what would be a reasoble option?

Your title says GPU and the body of your message says CPU.
1269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: OC settings for 1070 ti on: December 21, 2017, 02:02:22 AM
My only issues with the EVGA FTW models are:

 1) 2 power connectors makes it harder to get enough power to them in a many-card setup
 2) higher cost than the SC model.

Otherwise they should work the same as the SC - I don't think the cooling is enough better IF at all for them to boost noticeably higher at "efficient" settings, though they might crank out a few more hash than the SC if you push them to 160+ watts.

Armor cards don't suck, in my limited experience with them - but the cooling is NOT all that good given the HUGE fans and overall SIZE of the bloody things.
They don't seem to cool quite as well as the EVGA SC models, though close, and they DO cool better than the Zotac mini models.

Two power connectors?  Same as my Vega 56's?  They require two 8-pin's, if I'm not mistaken.  Between two EVGA 1000W Gold's, I had everything I needed in the box to power my six gpu Vega 56 rig.
1270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Howdy I setup Cast Miner to mine ETN ? on: December 21, 2017, 12:34:12 AM
Not sure about CastMiner, because I don't use it, but with XMR-STAK, you just make changes to the config file ... Wallet and pool addresses.
1271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash Coming back online December 20 2017 ( Tomorrow ) on: December 21, 2017, 12:12:57 AM
btc price going back and nicehash coming back. coincidence?
They come back because ended free distribution of coins (fork), no one hacked them, i am sure that later there will be news that hackers took pity and decided to return the money =)

BenRickert
As soon as this shit broke, absolutely all coins fell complexity and dramatically increased the income this was the reason, and not that increased the price of the coins.

You little understand how NiceHash "works", more precisely, those who use it (buyers). You sit day trying to find a block, as soon as the complexity of the coin decreases i pour into your pool of several thousand miners for pennies who work for a bowl of food, taking away all your income. Of course, the complexity then increases again, and I leave you alone, while the difficulty doesn't drop again. And I repeat over and over again, taking away all your profit and making sometimes 300%. This service is a parasite for ordinary miners, he just should not exist. Almost all young coins are banally destroyed at the start...

Oh, wait, maybe you are buyer? The parasite, who earns on simple miners using the wretchedness of all cryptocurrencies?

I don't use it for either you drooling twit. I'm a miner. NOT a GPU miner, who were the ONLY miners that saw drops in Network difficulty.I can't even begin to decipher what the rest of all that gibberish is. Thanks for playing.

Lol ... Ben, you're my new favorite person on this forum.  Actually I didn't have one before, but I do now.

Is there a reason why my watchlist doesn't work correctly?  I add a thread to the watchlist and then I go up and click on watchlist ... No where to be found.  There is one thread that is listed which I added a month ago ... Nothing I've added since then seems to appear on my watchlist.

Hi gotminer,

What about MSI GTX 1070Ti Armor ?

Thanks
armor cards suck

Hopefully the GeForce FTW2 cards don't suck, because I have 6 of them coming on Friday.

Same settings SHOULD work on the Gigabyte 1070 ti - but I refuse to buy any more Gigabyte cards except PERHAPS Aorus models due to their JUNK FANS.

I knew I read that somewhere.  Just couldn't remember where ... Lol.  Honestly, I had some on back order earlier in the week and cancelled the order after I saw that post and several others.
1275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Need Help - Looking for 240v Power Surge Protection on: December 20, 2017, 11:36:40 PM
I think I understand now.  Correct me, if I'm wrong ... I know you will ... Lol.  My confusion was in two places, I believe.  Firstly, I thought you were advocating pdu's and after re-reading a couple of times, I don't think that you are.  The other thing that was confusing me was the 50 meter figure.

Am I correct in assuming that a properly installed whole house protector should be grounded to earth, not a safety ground, and less than 10 feet from ground earth to be effective?  But this is not protecting the breaker box, because it is too close?

The whole house protector is protecting the devices due to the adjacent distance (ie, your 50 meter figure in the telecom center example)?

And then on to PDU's ... I'm not completely clear on what you are saying about them, but I think you are saying that they have no connection to ground earth, which I think causes them to be ineffective protectors of the devices that are plugged into them?  And that one that only protects against a surge of 580 joules, isn't really even necessary, because the built in protection to modern electronic devices has no problem protecting the device from 600 joule surges all day long?

I'm not sure why I am having such a difficult time understand this, but at least part of it seems to be coming together for me now.  If I'm still way off, tell me that I'm an idiot, so I can continue trying to figure this out. Smiley

Hello,

I would like to get best OC settings for gigabyte 1070 ti. Please share you MSI settings. Thank you.

Return your Gigabyte and get a real 1070ti.  Gigabyte cards are the dogshit of Nvidia.  You would know that if you had done a bit of reading.

didn't know that I can't return now I have to deal with this .

I've personally never had one.  I say that because I've read about many people having fan issues with them.

Well, that friend could be me.  In my experience, the algorithms that chose most profitable coin to mine under nice hash were the best there was.  In my limited experience doing alternate switching pools, nothing comes close to the payout amounts that nicehash offered.  This is the only reason I'm looking forward to trying it again.  Would be great if I could get my money back, sure, but if they incentivize it by paying some of the fees, that would seal the deal for me.

But by all means, please continue the hate!  I don't want them slammed. Smiley

You just said yourself that you had limited experience.  Perhaps your sample size just wasn't large enough to make a comparison.  I'm not hating though.

And you're right.  If they reduce fees ... That would probably make a lot of people think a little deeper about using their service again.
1279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can anyone help me with my Z270-P motherboard problem? on: December 20, 2017, 04:51:48 PM
I've had the same issues and I hate doing that.  My hashrate on card 1 is slightly lower than the rest, because it's being used for video.
1280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Nicehash Coming back online December 20 2017 ( Tomorrow ) on: December 20, 2017, 04:26:44 PM
While the price of the certain coins did rise and contribute to increased profits, others benefited from the decreased difficulty and absence of all those single miners out there which was a surprisingly large number. Tracking my profits daily its apparent that the latter contributed a larger portion of my increased earnings than the increase in coin value.  While adding both together did boost earnings significantly, I just wanted to point out that it was a result of NH being down and their return will cut those profits down.

It remains to be seen how many will jump right back to NH and if there is trust issue returning to a service that lost people's money with no plan to pay them back.  It wouldnt be the first time through a company that holds a large portion of the market is able to recover.  NH makes it easy for everyone and with no competition for a service as easy to use as NH it wouldnt be a surprise to see them get back a larger customer base back in a few weeks or so.

I guess we'll see.  I think a lot of people of jump right back into the NH system.  I have a moronic friend that can't wait for them to be back up and running again, because he wants a one click solution and doesn't give a shit about fees or educating himself.
