1261  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANNOUNCE] CoinWorker.com beta - earn bitcoin in minutes via tasks in browser on: March 10, 2012, 11:42:26 AM
It would be great if this could be expanded to countries where people don't get paid a lot.  I know some people in China that get paid less than $1 an hour.  That would also promote use of bitcoin with even more unstable currencies.
1262  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: P2P Cryptocoin Exchange (P2PX) on: March 10, 2012, 10:30:16 AM
It seems for now there is a necessity to change from a local currency to bitcoin because we don't have enough things to purchase with bitcoins.  Once enough products and services are willing to be exchanged for bitcoins and/or people are paid with bitcoins the use of exchanges won't be a central issue.

Why not just have the P2P exchange allow for trading on the central exchanges (Mtgox, Intersango, ect) using their API?
1263  Economy / Economics / Re: Red Money and Other Plans in the Event of USD Hyperinflation on: March 10, 2012, 09:17:01 AM
I thought it would be cool if bitcoins expired after a few years which are then allowed to be recreated again by mining.  That would get rid of the incentive to hoard bitcoins but also still keep an incentive to mine.

Yes, the US government sells all kinds of wacky crap like this all the time. Check out http://www.dispositionservices.dla.mil/ http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/gsaauctions/ or http://www.govliquidation.com/ and you will see everything from undercover cop cars, a demilitarized Lear Jet or a set of brand new Hawker Jump Jets parts you could start to assemble your own from.

I purchased several lots of SCSI 1 GB drives from NASA years ago, and got 40 21" Apple Macintosh monitors thrown in at pick-up. I also got 125 Sun Ultra 10 workstations for $1 each. There's all kinds of fun stuff to buy dirt cheap when Uncle Sugar decides he needs a new toy.

I am a sucker for these auctions.

For the last few hours I have been playing around with getting IRC to work through Tor.

I finally settled on using the IRC client XChat on Ubuntu 11.10 OS.

Here are some instructions that worked.

Immediately kill off any and all social media accounts that can be traced to you in RL in any way.

I agree/disagree with this.  I think a person should make the illusion that you are not trying to be invisible.  Of course never make the online profile searchable, nor put include any identifying information.  The idea is to keep people on the search.  If they feel they found you and then stop they are less likely to really find you.  Of course don't put up photos, but if you have some people at work and they nag you about facebook or whatever.  They can add you and then never add them back.

Develop an entire set of alternate identity documents. All Mexican Consulates issue "Matriculars" which will get you a driver's license, open bank accounts and handle all legal documents in the US, if you can convince the Consulate that you are an undocumented Mexican citizen in the US without papers. Having a couple of "cousins" who can attest to your citizenship, and a letter from back home, with post mark, is a great way to make this work.

this is cool.  I never thought about this... I think I can pull off a Mexican.

... maybe not...

The recent outing as Sabu as a government protected witness gives everyone important lessons to learn from his mistakes in online anonymity.

Rules

1.  Don't do anything illegal.

This is hard to do.  There are so many laws that a person probably does something illegal everyday.  For example, in some states it would be considered illegal to possess a knife in public with a blade longer than 2 inches.  Think of a kitchen knife.  It is fine to posses one in your own home, but in public this would be illegal.  What if someone needed to buy one?  Transportation laws are very ambiguous and the case law is terrible.  Be careful.

Think about the risk to reward ratio before making a decision.  For example, I personally think all drugs should be legal and let the buyer beware of the side effects.  Does that mean I use recreational drugs?  No, I don't think the risk of being under the scrutiny of the State for feeling good for a few hours is an acceptable risk to reward ratio.  Whenever someone is involved in the State system it costs time and money.

2.  Don't step on people's toes.

People say or do stupid things all the time.  That does not mean you have to out their stupidity and humiliate or hurt them.  If you did not follow advise number 1 then they could find a way to get revenge.  The more people's toes you stepped on the more people are around you waiting for you to make a mistake.  If you have a disagreement with another person there is no reason to debate them in a polite and reasonable way.

3.  If you are going use the internet then do so anonymously.

This is especially true if you can't follow rule number 1 and 2.  Don't use the same email address to register for websites.  Use a different email address each time.  Also remember, if you signed up for a website at your home or at work, that IP address is stored by the email company.  They will also log your IP address every time you log into that account to check the email.  So, to keep yourself anonymous for everything you do use Tor or another anonymizing agent every time you go online.  Use it every time you register for a website.

4.  Form an limited liability company (LLC) and never use your real name.

Why form an LLC?  It is a legal entity that you can open accounts with.  You can have things in the LLC's name and keep your name away from it.  New Mexico is the best place to form an LLC.  Registration is cheap and you don't have to put your name down.  You can also form many LLCs.  After you go through the process of making one with a 3rd party company you will know the steps.  Put all your assets in these LLCs.  Have an LLC for your car.  Have an LLC for your web site domain names.

5.  It is not enough to use a private domain proxy for registering domains.

Sabu messed up by allowing his private domain registration to expire.  That then caused his real name and home address (yikes!) to be on display for the whole world.  This is a person that did enough things to have the government threaten him with 122 years in prison and he couldn't open a LLC and put the domain names in that name.  He bragged (see rule #10) he had the domain name pvrt.org.  This is like bragging you drive a Red Camero with license plate FUP0P0 and being surprised when the police knock down your door.

6.  Never give out your physical address.

Look on your drivers license.  Does it have your home address?  Not only is that dangerous if someone got your wallet, it is also dangerous as you told the State thugs where you live.  There are many places where you can get a physical address.  Go to a private mail box service.  They might ask you to fill out some paper work with your home mailing address.  Tell them you are living out of you car for now and don't have a mailing address.  If they won't do that there are actual homeless shelters with mailing services.  Also, storage facilities will also accept mail for you and they won't ask for you home address.  You don't want to have bills or other things mailed to you anyway.  This physical address is just to use when you have to put an address down.

7.  Keep your real identity online, but never use it.

Most people have a Facebook or some other social network.  If you don't use these things then you are considered strange, abnormal, potentially suspect.  You need to keep your real identity out there so that people can think they found you.  If your name is Bob Jones then get an email address with bob.jones@gmail.com, register the domain name bobjones.com, have a Twitter at @bobjones, and put up a Facebook account.

8.  Turn off your cell phone.

Feel like being tracked?  Smart phones are inherently insecure.  Talking on them is bad enough but as you ride around you have the potential for others to know your location.  They have limited ability of hiding your browsing online.  If someone finds your phone they could have your list of contacts, any photos you have on there, and your browsing history.  Memorize important contacts.  Only give your phone number to people that you trust.  Buy a prepaid phone plan and change your phone number often.

9.  Freeze your credit accounts.

This is a protection from getting your real identity stolen.  If you are going to protect others from finding what your real identity is then you also need to freeze your credit report accounts.  Obviously your identity has been compromised if someone tries to open credit in your name without your authorization.  By freezing your credit report you will be notified if someone tries to open a line of credit in your name.  Also, they will notify you if your real identity is listing a new address.

10.  Keep your mouth shut.

I am 100% in favor of freedom of speech, but if you can't follow the rules above then you will be locked up in some prison because you couldn't keep your mouth shut.  No matter what you do to keep your privacy secure, if you brag about doing illegal things, how many bitcoins you have, or other personal information, then you have just messed up all your planning for staying anonymous.

11.  Only use cash or bitcoins.

1269  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to reduce terrorism. on: March 09, 2012, 09:45:11 PM

Hm, just wanted to put this out there and see what are your opinions.

But let me ask you this, if someone attacks you and your family, what do you do, do you just stand there and let the attackers run over you, or do you fight back with all you've got ?

Isn't it so that you receive what you give (most of the time) ?

So I was thinking, in the case of Afghanistan, Al-Qaeda and the US was on terror.

From what I've learned the US and the coallition forces are trying to eradicate Al-Qaeda from the surface of earth. I'm not the slightest surprised that this really leads to even more anger and willingness to attack US and US friendly parties by Al-Qaeda and their supporters.

I was thinking, what if the US forces stopped killing and stopped attacking, but rather did their best to help building infrastructure, social systems, providing a higher standard of living etc.  Would not this make the people of Afghanistan welcome the US more, and the urge to do terrorist attack etc. would be reduced ?

After all, who wants to kill your helping hand ? But the attacking hand, who wants to be kind to it ?

Sure enough, the 9-11 attacks was devastating, but haven't there been enough killings now. There's been so many reports about drone attacks, and innocent people being killed by the US. Would it not make sense to stop waging war against 'terrorism' if the goal was to stop terrorism ?

Or perhaps there really is no wish for peace, because what should the US forces do if there was peace everywhere ?

What do you think ?

I think you need to learn about the history of Islam before making such suggestions.

Actually Herodes is theoretically correct on how to properly fight an insurgency.  This battle is not about the number of enemies killed.  It is for the support of the local population.  A guerilla insurgency uses terrorist tactics to cause chaos and fear among the local population.  They can quickly blend in and out of the local population.  When the occupying force comes in to sweep out insurgents, those insurgences put up a small fight while the main force moves to a new location.

The tactics of the insurgency is to show the local population that the occupying force cannot protect them.  Without that proper protection the local population will then give their support to the insurgency that will protect them.

With this in mind, the only possible way for the occupying force to win is to build services for the local population.  As they do that they have to have lots of security.  They have to use a lot of intelligence to find the insurgents living within the population.  The occupying force has to take heavy casualties.  In the case of Afghanistan, the occupying force is NATO, and the NATO allies have to keep their populations in support of these tactics.  It is not just go in and kill a bunch of "evil-doers".

One of the best books written on this subject is Counterinsurgency Warfare: Theory and Practice .  Also check out the free journal published by the United States Army War College, Parameters.

You're all a bunch polysatoshi-ists.

I think a lot of people have a necessity to brag and 3 can only keep a secret if 2 are dead.  I vote for dead or in jail.

Sex.com and porn.com "actual dollar values". Get out, would you? Unless you want to buy a bridge or something.

Has anyone every actually gone to sex.com, porn.com?  People go to google.com, facebook.com, amazon.com.  Those domain names had no value before a team of people built a business around that brand.  Paying an outrageous amount of money for a domain name marks someone as having little business sense.  Instead of wasting that money they should have hired lawyers to read terms of service, or hired programmers to make a better website.

Those guys do have a ton of bitcoins. If you search around I'm sure you'll find the leaked IRC chat logs that shows them discussing their finances among other things. I wonder will these coins be sold.

If their hard drives are confiscated add those to the lost bitcoin thread.
1274  Other / Meta / Re: Ignored counter on: March 08, 2012, 09:41:17 AM
I don't know. I personally find it hysterical when people brag about putting someone on the ignore list. I could give a rat's ass who listens to whom; seems like content should dictate who you listen to, not other people opinions of the person.

I put someone on an ignore list and they asked me why in a pm.  I think I hurt their feelings.  You would think that if I ignore a person that they would not be able to send me a PM.

I think it is a great idea to put a counter.
1275  Other / Off-topic / Re: A few random rants.. Please Read. on: March 08, 2012, 09:32:33 AM
C. elegans has 302 neurons. The last common ancestor between humans and C. elegans was about 600 million years ago.

How many neurons does a paramecium have?

Huh Paramecium is an unicellular organism, thus it has no neurons.

EVOLUTION:
I also think about evolution, the thing i dont get is if we evolved from chimps, why the hell arent there any other smart animals like us on this planet, The reason why this bugs me out, you dont see a evolution of any fish animal that can building houses or have any forms of writing or anything in that nature. And according to something i read -  memory came from some pre-dinosaur animal, that was a water breather (fish life) - i forgot the name sorry.

You are assuming here that intelligence is an adaptable trait.  Evolution does not require natural selection.  Most evolution at the DNA level is neutral.  With random sampling at small enough population size, it is possible to fix certain genetic alleles in a population that may or may not be beneficial.

Why hasn't anybody done this yet? I searched bitcoin.com on archive.org, read what was written in 2009, then arrived at the following:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Electronic-Payment-commerce-computer-security/dp/1580532683

Authors: Donal O'Mahony;  Michael Peirce; Hitesh Tewari.

I find it amazing that not a one of them has yet to pen a word about Bitcoin giving the book they published.

I do find this fascinating: http://www.davy.ie/Generic?page=davysnewsresearch

1279  Other / Meta / Re: We need a "No begging" policy... on: March 07, 2012, 09:34:32 AM
Like the title says, we need a no begging policy around here.

Or are we the kind of suckers that will give the fish instead of teaching them how to handle a fishing pole?

Beg 1 time, get a warning.
Insist on begging, BAN the fucker.

If people are banned for off-topic posts, they should be banned for begging.
Also, if you notice carefully, 99% of the beggars will turn out to be scammers. <--- Reason enough for this policy

Your thoughts about this?

Have a begging section.

They are distracting and ridiculous., but telling people what to do is annoying as well.
