12621  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase has a multi-sig vault. You now control the keys. on: October 30, 2014, 10:59:17 PM
I think this is a great option for the less tech savvy to be able to have something close to cold storage and it's great that coinbase is leading the way on this. W/o discounts for buying w/ BTC and wallet services that are impervious to theft, you won't have mainstreet coming anywhere near crypto aside from bulls orchestrating panic buying frenzies.
This is an incredibly complicated non solution for a simple matter of a 50 some digit number.

It also has elements of danger in it, based on the specific (unknown, unknowable likely) internals of accounting on the coinbase side.

Here is my take on it.

"I'm worried!  I have a 54 digit number that is my private key.  Someone could find it!  Someone could take all my money!"

"No problem, I have just the solution for you.  Trust me.  Just get MORE PEOPLE INVOLVED WITH YOUR PRIVATE KEY!"

.....

Really?

Climate Scientists Suffering From “Pre-Traumatic Stress Disorder” Because No One Takes Their Predictions Seriously…

Lise Van Susteren, a forensic psychiatrist based in Washington, D.C. — and co-author of the National Wildlife Federation’s report — calls this emotional reaction “pre-traumatic stress disorder,” a term she coined to describe the mental anguish that results from preparing for the worst, before it actually happens.

This problem of pre-traumatic stress disorder is not new, it has been around a time.

Sessions: 'The World Has Turned Upside Down'

Senator Jeff Sessions will soon release this statement in response to a report in the Wall Street Journal that details President Obama's plans to unilaterally implement amnesty.

"The Wall Street Journal confirmed today that the President is planning to issue a massive unilateral executive amnesty after the election.

"In its report, the WSJ certifies that this executive amnesty would provide work permits for illegal immigrants—taking jobs directly from struggling Americans.

"Based on the USCIS contract bid and statements from USCIS employees, we know this executive immigration order is likely to be broader in scope than anyone has imagined.

"Earlier this week, President Obama’s former head of Homeland Security revealed that she overrode resistance from administration lawyers and law enforcement agents in implementing the President’s earlier unlawful amnesty and work authorization program for illegal immigrants 30 and under. This was an open admission by one of the most senior people in government of violating one’s oath of office in order to accomplish a nakedly political aim.

"The President is assuming for himself the sole and absolute power to decide who can enter, work, live, and claim benefits in the United States. He has exempted virtually every group in the world from America’s immigration laws: people who enter before a certain age, people related to people who enter before a certain age, adults traveling with minors, minors traveling with adults, illegal immigrants who are not convicted of serious crimes, illegal workers who are convicted of serious crimes but not enough serious crimes, almost anyone who shows up the border and demands asylum, the millions who overstay their visas, and, as was recently exposed, illegal immigrants with serious criminal histories. The list continues to grow.

"A nation creates borders and laws to protect its own citizens. What about their needs?

At some point there has to be pushback against these executive orders, or we have de facto fascism.
12624  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This is all down to socialism on: October 30, 2014, 07:57:25 PM
It is socialism.

All the forms of socialism except one place the power of the many into the hands of the few. The few are those in governments who direct the "property" of the everybody to be distributed evenly across society. What really happens is that the property of the many is distributed into the hands of those who are in government. Why? Because government people act in trust. But they can't resist the wealth. So they break their trust, and steal the wealth of the people. It always happens this way in the long run, and most of the time in the short run.

The people of common law countries - United States, Canada, the UK, India, Australia - don't realize what they have in the common law. The common law operates the ONLY kind of socialism that works - voluntary socialism. What is voluntary socialism? This is where the people own the property, individually, and they voluntarily, as each sees fit, donate the property to the poor.

Socialism is gradually taking over the common law in common law countries. How is it being done? The people are being trained out of their knowledge of common law in the public schools.

It's about time that the free people in ALL the common law countries, start to wake up to the fact of what they are losing, and start to re-learn common law, and then to use it to maintain ALL their property and ALL THEIR RIGHTS!

One of the best places to look on the Net for what common law is all about is http://1215.org/, and particularly http://1215.org/lawnotes/lawnotes/lectures/introduction/index.html. One of the best teachers about how to practically use common law can be found here http://www.broadmind.org/, here http://www.unkommonlaw.co.uk/, and here http://www.myprivateaudio.com/Karl-Lentz.html.

Let's wake up before we lose the world to the socialistic schemers who want to control everything, the superrich and the governments of the world.

(Who's the propagandist?)

Quote from: Josef Stalin link=http://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/stalin/works/1906/12/x01.htm
The point is that Marxism and anarchism are built up on entirely different principles, in spite of the fact that both come into the arena of the struggle under the flag of socialism. The cornerstone of anarchism is the individual, whose emancipation, according to its tenets, is the principal condition for the emancipation of the masses, the collective body. According to the tenets of anarchism, the emancipation of the masses is impossible until the individual is emancipated. Accordingly, its slogan is: "Everything for the individual." The cornerstone of Marxism, however, is the masses, whose emancipation, according to its tenets, is the principal condition for the emancipation of the individual. That is to say, according to the tenets of Marxism, the emancipation of the individual is impossible until the masses are emancipated. Accordingly, its slogan is: "Everything for the masses."

Clearly, we have here two principles, one negating the other, and not merely disagreements on tactics.
(Emphasis mine.)

(Perhaps it is he that would promote the sustenance of State?)

The primary philosophical advocate of capitalism, Ayn Rand, was completely opposed to the accumulation of wealth by snuggling up to socialist leaders.

I guess she was more a anarchist capitalist than a crony capitalist...

Indeed it doesn't look good for a community when in a scientific discussion one of the parts is being censored. I acknowledge many were posting pointless, non peer reviews pieces of informations, but it's true that it was becoming quite boring to always see the same discussions over and over again in every thread.

Sure, but the "boring, repetitive" part comes from a dogmatic, religious approach to the dialectic.  I will grant that a scientific approach can also be boring sometimes terribly so.

But religious thinking of environmentalists, masquerading as a scientific discussion, can easily and quickly be uncovered with a few questions of the right sort.   And that's if it's not immediately obvious by emotion laden arguments.

"Billions will die!"
"The sea will rise 80 meters!"
"Urgent action is needed Now!"
"The Koch brothers..."
"Exxon...."

At this time, the Reddit threads on climate science are not climate science.  They are propanganda in large part, often with Far Left funding and or motivations.

Notice how in multicultural boards based on foreign languages, there is no strict policy. For example, there can be English posts in the Romanian section. However, there can't be Romanian posts in these sections. This is blatant bigotry.
That's kind of a weird argument to make.

Does anyone care?

What the fuck is with cops these days. Last week i heard a cop tries to stole nude pics from somebody's cell phone. Huh

With the knowledge that there will be zero thigns that happen to you for the horrors you commit on another person people do many things without giving a fuck.

This is why you had the 2nd ammendment and property laws but now you are scared of "terrorists" that do not exist.

Bolded above, not true only of cops but of virtually all in the employ of government.  They are shielded from prosecution for wrongdoing while on the job.

12628  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This is all down to socialism on: October 29, 2014, 11:18:33 PM
Is this all down to the populations of sovereign nation states having control of their countries means of production ?

Or is it down to a global and deregulated free market facilitating gross monopolistic accumulation ?

It would take the worlds richest man, Carlos Slim, 220 years to spend his fortune - and that, at a rate of $1,000,000 per day - according to the latest report on wealth inequality from Oxfam.

This is all down to socialism.

Isn't it ?

Yes, the richest men historically have snuggled up next to the evil socialist leaderss to steal from the people.
12629  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "Not all cops are bad" on: October 29, 2014, 10:58:50 PM
If the statement "not all cops are bad" is really true,

Why did they stand by, watching and doing nothing, as their peer officer was raping a child?

"A federal civil lawsuit filed with Texas Southern District Court back in May accused [Erasmo] Mata of assaulting the minor five times, on five separate occasions, all while on duty.  The suit alleges that the attacks took place in abandoned houses around the city as other Pharr police ....
First thing that occurs to me, you want to talk about Pharr, TX?  Really?  REALLY?

Then you have to ask what those cops do when the Mexican gang is running some goods down the street.

See no evil hear no evil.

That's what you got.

Long, long history of corruption in that area.

A police officer wanted to have sex with a woman, but she was married.

He solved the problem by forging false evidence against her husband to get her arrested.

I'm not going to tell you what happened next, because I want you to read the article yourself.
http://filmingcops.com/cop-wanted-to-have-sex-with-mans-wife-so-he-created-fake-reports-to-get-man-arrested/
That article is very poorly written.  I could not figure from it whether your take on the matter is right or wrong.

That's because articles don't have to be biased towards a certain perspective ("Right" or "Wrong" is subjective)

Sorry it doesn't tell you what to think
I would distinguish between "poorly written" and "not telling you what to think" but aside from that we're in agreement.
12631  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Does Bitcoin have the potential to evade capital controls? on: October 29, 2014, 03:28:45 PM
Huh

Yes.

This occurs due to the simple fact that bitcoin lacks a physical location.  Therefore when one crosses a national border with capital controls, the movement or lack of of the bitcoin cannot be affected.

Another example is when a country, say Argentina, restricts the inflow and use of a substitute currency - like the US dollar.  The BTC can be made illegal, but this is a different matter than restricting it's use.

Legal or illegal does not restrict black markets, rather they flourish where supply is lower than demand due to legal restrictions.  Thus restrictions encourage black markets very existence.

I suspect this means that "making bitcoin illegal" will cause it to flourish in those countries which make it illegal, but nobody is really sure at this point.  Kind of like Prohibition and the War on Drugs.....

yes oil is at $ 80 now and world economic is depresed now.
lot of things caused that , war ,ebola etc.
this is not cheap issue made by some politician like always , but this is real happen now.

I think Putin's country's major cash source is natural gas and oil sales, and if the price goes down he's got serious problems.

Some of them do much worse than that, I remember sometime back one of my friend was busted for having sex in car, the cop handcuffed my friend and took him to his car and told the girl to be remained seated nude in the car. After putting my friend in the car, he returned, molested (fingered) the girl for a while than told her to get dressed and then left them with a warning. They didn't filed a complaint because they knew that they didn't had any proof and the cop got away with it  Angry.
That's when you find out where he lives and finger his wife while hes tied to a radiator.

It's easy to find out where a cop lives

You're better off "misplacing" your USB and hoping he picks it up and plugs it into his computer, where his wife's newdz are stored

BWHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

you mean, like totally, prove his moronitocity!

Professor: ‘Terminate Industrial Civilization’ To Save Earth From Global Warming

Mankind is doomed unless we immediately de-industrialize and slash carbon dioxide emissions, according to Guy McPherson, emeritus professor from the University of Arizona.

McPherson appeared on Paul Henry’s New Zealand-based talk program to warn that global warming was “irreversible” and the only way to stop it is to “terminate industrial civilization.”

“I think there’s ample chance we can save the living planet, but not our species. …....

...he should terminate his personal part of the species, himself.  Think of the carbon wasted by people reading his crazyland talk!

What do you folks thinking, will winter somehow stop this shit?

I'm talking about exponential growing of illness.

What we have:

                                                    winter 100,000 ? ? ? ?
                                                         ,,,,,
                                                      ....

                                        autumn 5,000 - 10,000 infected
                                            ......
                                          .....
              summer 1,000 - 5,000 infected
                    .....
            ....
spring 10 - 100 infected
IIRC cold weather helps virus molecule stay together, hence people catch colds in winter, if same principle is at work, more ebola cases in winter?

12638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wallet Password Finder/Crack Tool [14-01-03] – [free test] on: October 23, 2014, 10:17:17 PM
I downloaded the zip file, but it will not extract. I am sorry to be digging up such an old topic, but it is the only relevant one I have found.

It is possible that the Multibit Wallet I have installed is corrupted or something. Here is what happened:

I was going to send a small amount of bitcoin to a friend. Multibit prompted me for my multibit wallet password. I use one of three passwords for all nonessential accounts. I entered the passwords, and multibit said they were incorrect. I started trying different\ combinations of wrong keys, like one key over or reversed caps/lowercase to no avail. I then made another wallet in multibit, and entered the password I mostly use for these things. I then went back to trying to unlock the other wallet. a few minutes later I went back to the newly created wallet and tried to remove the password I had just entered and written down exactly. Multibit gave me a warning of "can not decrypt bytes". I looked up this error message and the software creators say this means you entered the wrong password. I kept trying, again to no avail. So I closed/shut down the multibit software and restarted. I tried again to remove the password on the new wallet, this time it accepted.

I am running version 0.5.13 of multibit wallet. It is my thought that for some reason it is corrupt, maybe just the installation on my pc, but somehow it has not stored my password correctly. Of course it is also very possible that I just fat fingered or mistyped one letter or number twice in a row while creating the original wallet. Anyway, I would really like to unlock this wallet and get the bitcoin out of it. I have not problem paying the OP a fee of 5%, because if I can not unlock this thing, then I lose 100%.

Does anyone know of a brute force program that will work with Multibit? Has anyone tried one in the past and have experience with it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is a case where there is low entropy from the known.  Say it is a 8 character ps, fully random - full entropy.  1 char wrong, 1 char upper vs lower case, etc....these are low entropy cases.  Most important item is exact number of characters in the ps.

It is possible to compute the computation time for a full run of such things.  From reading this thread this seems all like pretty standard cracking.
12639  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best cold storage (digital) found? 1000 year lifespan dvd's and blu ray on: October 23, 2014, 04:45:16 PM
Well there is an vulnerability with USB drives as we have found out and disc only have a lifespan of about ten years.

Although I saw something today that might just be the best for digital storage of a wallet.

mdisc

http://www.mdisc.com/

1000 year rated dvd's where the files are written to "stone" and it will play in most drives where as the blue ray disc will play in all, better yet they aren't that expensive.

They are more durable then regular disc and can take a beating but just still can't be bent in half without snapping, there isn't much more you can ask for in a long term disc. This seems to be perfect for people wanting to people their wallet data or private keys on a disc.

A private key is 256bits long. You don't need 25GBytes of storage to store it. A sheet of paper and a pen are all you need.
Sheets of paper deteriate and are easily vulnerable to the elements, these are a bit more resilient and this is a way to digitally back up any of your bitcoin needs.
Emboss the 256bit number on a strip of stainless steel using a tapewriter.  End of Problem.

No need for computer or digital storage for a simple 64 place hexadecimal number.

“Tell me, mother, how does it happen that the Bankers are so rich? Our teacher has told us at school that here are thousands of Bankers in the world who are millionaires. And yet the Bankers do not work. It is the non-Bankers who must work. The Banker only trades. But one cannot become a millionaire by trading with paper, bones, old clothing and furniture!”

Mother explains how it is done.

“The Banker is quite indifferent when the cheated non-Banker goes hungry. Bankers have no pity. They strive for one thing: money. They do not care two hoots how they get it.”

Lauren asks how they can behave in this mean way. Mother answers:

“Child, one thing you must realize. The Banker is not a person like us. The Banker is a Devil. And a Devil has no sense of honor. A Devil deals only in meanness and crime. You have read your Ayn Rand, Lauren. There it says of Banker economics : ‘You must eat up the capital of the earth!’ Do you know what that means? It means the Banker should destroy all other peoples. They should bleed and exploit them till they die. That is what it means.”

Lauren tries to understand these things. Mother continues:

“Yes, my child, that’s the Banker! The God of the Bankers is gold. There is no crime he would not commit to get it. He has no rest till he can sit on the top of a gold-sack. He has no rest till he has become King Money. And with this money he would make us all into slaves and destroy us. With this money he seeks to dominate the whole world.”
