Just to update incase anyone else cared about my RMA pains with syscooling.  After a full month they have contacted me to say the RMA pump left china.... over a month late.   It took over a month and still not even here.

My credit card company started a dispute after 3 weeks and syscooling person ignoring communication.   I bought parts elsewhere as they stopped communication and parts never got here.   What a company to say "we couldn't do anything but to wait. " And they sent it EMS they knew it was not speedy.  But to contact me after a full month and ask me to let them know "ASAP" that things are ok....  No they are not ok.

It appears the dispute got their attention (but is far to late).   If it helps anyone it appears Shijiazhuang Dongyuan Cooling Technology Co., Ltd. is the company  behind syscooling.  And watercooling@ysun.net is email their "after- service center" uses.
12762  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining newbie. What would you do if you did not pay for electricity? on: December 08, 2014, 02:29:03 AM
Thanks everyone for the replies, well mostly. To answer one person, no one is footing the bill. I am not mooching off my parents. I probably have more grey hair then you do. Smiley I do see the problem about the heat though. I would have to incorporate some type of air conditioning in the summer time too. For now in winter I wont need to worry but I definitely will keep it in mind. I know it sounds like a newbie post, which it is and I have been on many boards as the vet. I did some reading on it. Browsing posts is very over whelming with technical lingo when you don't know any acronyms or nicknames. I don't mind there being miners in every room actually. If I put 3 in every room I would be a happy man.

So philipma1957, on top of that, my next question is how would I also weigh machines on longevity? Like say which machines would still be useful a year or 2 from now as hashes go up? Would you think that mining altcoins with these same machines would be practical over time? I know over time hashes get harder but it seems that more types of e-currency come out the better it is for those mining. Truthfully there isn't as much profit as it would seem from your numbers. Ok so what am I doing wrong

Here is what the calculator puts in for my estimates. I input litecoins

Hash Rate (GH/s): 4096
   Power (Watts): 2275
Power Cost ($/kWh): 0
   Pool Fees %: 0
Difficulty: 51,485
   Block Reward: 50
Exchange Rate (USD): 3.78
   Hardware Costs (USD) 3100

and it says i will make the money back in a day?Huh how do i use this calcutor

You are mining sha 256 not litecoins with that kind of machine.   And no one can tell you what 2 years from now will be.   I think you are looking to far in future, mining technology changes in generations.   It's hard to tell what NM chip we will have in 1 year especially 2.

Philipma's numbers were very good on sharing correct info.  Run miner through bitcoin not scrypt and you will see numbers like he mentioned earlier.
12763  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What would everybody think if I actually owned a faucet? on: December 08, 2014, 12:58:02 AM
Just totally hypothetical, a total random thought I had. Right now, I'm thinking that those faucets really don't earn as much profit as we might think unless they do Adfly and redirects, which would of course annoy users.

They earn a very small amount per visit.  The money comes from quantity.  You need to have some reason that brings people in to yours others don't have or is new.

I think its going to be hard to get a lot of people to visit it.  Personally I don't bother with faucets money us just to small.
12764  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Custom Rigs... Hardware on: December 08, 2014, 12:54:19 AM
Thanks for the reply, hopefully ive answered your questions good enough,

1. Why do you want to build your own custom rig vs. buying one from Bitmain or Spondoolies?

Personally i think for these companies to be in business they have to put some sort of mark up  for adding the components together and making these units pretty much plug and play.... I assume im correct in saying this?

2. How much are you looking to spend?

Max £80k

3. Where are you located?

UK

I currently have a lot of space/power left un used in a few of our cages around the UK so seems silly to not have 90% of the power used.

I hope this has given you enough information.

Many Thanks

Really you cannot build cheaper then the companies they build in huge quantity.  Even if you spend hundred of thousands most likely you go to one of the big makers.

With 80 thousand I would go to a few companies and see if they offer a discount/how much.

Make sure you not only have space/power but cooling.  If you truly buy 80 thousand worth of gear it will take some cooling.   Most likely a lot more then you have.
12765  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 08, 2014, 12:48:07 AM
Thanks,
I tried that I am using a new class 10 card, still once I use win32diskimage, I am unable to read it.  The S4 and the C! both just spin the fans.  This is really frustrating and I have tried win 7 win 8.1 and the new tech preview.

Barbara

Win 7 or 8 varients should work with win32diskimage.   You put the card in reader connected to computer.   The important thing is the device letter is the sd card drive letter.

1) Select SD device letter
2) Hit little folder select the image file hit ok.
3) Hit the write button (again make sure right drive letter)

After that put sd card back in miner.   Hope that helps.
12766  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 07, 2014, 10:16:29 PM
Thanks, I downloaded the program, and had it write the file to the SD card.  Now the fan just runs and the red light came on.  put the cards in the miners and now just fast fans
Does it take a long time to load

Same thing on the S4 both just running on hi fan
Barbara

It should not take to long (maybe a few minutes).  Do the network lights seem to blink?  If they are blinking, and fan is running "fast" sounds like possibly mining.

Are you using a 192.168.1.X as ips? If so the 192.168.1.99 should be the miner.   If that does not wok check on the router and look at whats connected and try IP's on it.
12767  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 2 to Dec 15 diff thread. ( +0.15%) to (+0.92%) on: December 07, 2014, 08:28:29 PM
well here we are on sunday morning  price is 370 usd and diff dropping just a bit.  frankly I thought we would have a 4% bump so far this drop is very nice.

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty   (-1.52%)

http://www.bitcoincharts.com/  (-0.64%)

If we keep the -1% and go under 40 diff  on the 16th or 17th We may not get another jump until JAN 1 2015  which would mean from Nov 5 to Jan 1

we would have been basically flat lined close to a diff of 40 .    Plug that into your calculators and mining looks a little better then the negative talk we have heard.

a 55 day period with 0 growth looks like a very good chance .  WOW

Who would have ever thought this a few months ago? I am kind of wondering why? You think the equipment that is being sold is not new but sold from farms? Or do we have new equipment sells not keeping up with decommissioned and/or undervolted equipment?

I think dragons are going off line.  I think s-2's are going off line.  I think s-1's and s-1 mods are going off line.  I think 2  watt gear is going off line.

Lastly I think the sp20's being sold were mining so when they sold they came off line get shipped and go back on line.

so no real gain in hashpower.

I think this is true of s-3's
I think this is true of s-4's

I like this if it is true as the asic builders would be diff controlling rather then price controlling. I believe if they do this for dec to april most miners will do  well. and diff will not be much over 50 by april 1.

Of course I could be wrong.

I hope your right if so will be a amazing season of winter mining.   It will be interesting to see where that old gear is going.

A dragon makes around 0.01661539 BTC total a day not taking out electricity and assuming perfect results and no pool fees.   At current price if running a dragon at .1 KWH you will make around $2.07 each day after electricity is taken out.   That basically means most people paying hosting of dragons will make very little.
12768  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trust feature on this forum? on: December 07, 2014, 06:50:59 PM
there are some trust abuse, but remember that the trust system isn't used only for trading

I would agree if used right the trust is a good indicator.  No it should not be only thing used for verifying a "good" trade.     The system is not perfect but does have some positives.
12769  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: bitcoin difficulty + btc price on: December 07, 2014, 06:38:44 PM
A space heater is very efficient in producing heat.
An asic miner is pretty efficient in producing heat, the amount that is not used in heating is used to gain bitcoin.
So it is better if you need permanent heating.

You could say, well some miners are more efficient than others.
But more efficient miners are just spending more energy on the usefull calculations, the calculations themselves are equally efficient since it is the same algorithm.

wrong.  watts is watts is watts.

heat from 1 watt spent = 3.42 btu of heat

so a 1000 watt space heater = 3420 btu

a 1000 watt miner = 3420 btu

If you go with some of the old miners like the old dragons they practically spit out heat.   The advantage I think a true heater has is sound, they can be more quiet then most of the stuff that is being sold as "heaters".

I think it's a little of a gimmick some sellers are using to unload some almost obsolete gear.  Yes they will make heat, but better hope it's one long winter if you are spending much for them.
12770  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Has Anyone heard of this Miner? on: December 07, 2014, 03:59:55 PM
Seller says "The item came from some unclaimed freight from a packing and shipping company.  I am not sure what this is."

You buy it and you will be stuck with a box that most likely will never mine anything.
12771  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 07, 2014, 02:17:12 AM
Were you guys able to get ssh access on this? i log in with root/root and get invalid password.

RMA process was a breeze with the CO guys too. Got everything hooked up a few days ago and its very stable
(image removed to save space)

What water pump do you have there in that picture? Is that the one from Ebay? How is the quality? I purchased one from FrozenCPU for $100, yes, $100 but the quality was excellent and turn around time would be quick. Not sure what to do. I just want to mine my 6 rigs at 1000TH/s that supposed to be guaranteed. according to the sales pitch online.

I have two of the ebay pumps.  Both good quality and running great they are rated just a little faster then original pumps. Also much larger reservoir and different design.  I also purchased the 3 pin molex powered board that's powering them.    The main reason of that pump was it was shipped quickly in US and I needed a pump quickly(as both original pumps died and syscooling RMA I won't go into and waste more space).
12772  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: new perspective bitminer will I be any use? on: December 07, 2014, 02:07:13 AM
You will lose money with most GPU mining.  Running 1 card you are going to lose on electricity.

You make very little and spend more then you make on electricity.  Ultimately you will be stressing your gaming GPU for mining (assuming you clock high) for very small amounts of cash.
12773  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How to best utilize GPUs was Re: What kind of GPU do you need to mine even a small amount of BTC? on: December 06, 2014, 11:03:25 PM
GPU'S are out of the race for mining BTC, you need asics for that.

so how do I best utilize my gpu miners these days? I powered my rigs down a few months ago while I took a spiritual retreat. nobody has come up with a different algo for GPUs that has gained any traction?

For most the GPU days are dead.   Just eat up to much electricity for what they bring.  The asics have them to a few less algos.

Most likely you are better off selling cards then mining with them at this point.   I parted mine out a while back.   Do that and buy new miner or straight BTC.
12774  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Dec 2 to Dec 15 diff thread. ( +0.15%) to (+0.92%) on: December 06, 2014, 08:37:21 PM
It's the 6th and looking good still.  BitWisdom - 40,049,976,470 (+0.11%)

I don't want to jinx it but it's looking good.   Makes me think some of the old stuff is coming off.   There are a lot of "dragon" miners and such.   I thought it would be a few months till people pulled them but maybe it's happening sooner then i thought.
12775  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What mining companies are recommended? Re: BFL fucked us over again on: December 06, 2014, 08:31:46 PM
Which mining companies are recommended now? and does others use Amazon EC2? I'm renting for m7m algo, need some opinions for others tested mining rigs.

Are you making money on EC2?  I had not seen a CPU coin worth mining in a while.
12776  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Anyone in Connecticut available to come over and help on: December 06, 2014, 08:26:01 PM
What is teamviewer

www.teamviewer.com

Basically software to provide remote access to your PC.

What is your hardware? Some picture would be great.

It is a great thing for miners remote.   With it you can allow someone to access your pc.  I also suggest to make sure your watching when connected as they have full access.

I would suggest as above posting your miner models.  With details we can be of much more help.
12777  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: December 06, 2014, 08:09:12 AM
I am having a little trouble with one of my S3's.   I was updating the firmware and the unit lost power during it.  I have tried the reset settings with reset button but I have not been able to fix it.

With losing power during update am I now out of luck with unit where it's a hardware issue or am I just not doing reset right?
12778  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Spondoolies SP20 help on: December 06, 2014, 04:39:55 AM
Hi Gang,
Have a little issue.
I just got my sp20 this week. I had a S1 w/ fortress 750 psu. So when my sp20 came I clocked it way down so I can run it with my 750w. It has been running fine @ 1.3TH but today my fortress 650 arrived. I hooked it up with the 750 and logged in to bump setting all the way up, just to see what happens. It now shuts itself down every time I turn it on. The psu are still on but it seems its in some sort of protection mode. When I switch the powers off then on again the fan on the sp 20 goes on a few secs, then off, then back on (like the normal startup) off again, then never then doesn't come back, I've tried multiple times.  I cant log into it. Any suggestions? I was thinking I screwed up a setting and had to reset but how can I do that if It won't stay on? any help would be great. Thanks

Can you define how far you went up when you say  "way up"?

Also there is a recovery through SD if you truly messed up settings.
12779  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: December 06, 2014, 04:31:11 AM
Got the RMA pump from syscooling today....no tracking #, no email, but unit arrived about 10 days after acknowledgement by syscooling...very well packaged.

I waited 3 weeks and nothing... then finally contacted credit card.   I suggest getting a new pump elsewhere and doing syscoolinng rma at same time.  You will be much happier then the downtime with them.
12780  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Need as much info as possible! on: December 06, 2014, 04:26:28 AM
Really 2 main ones with BTC

1) SP-20  - Advantage can really underclock will be usefull for a longtime
2) S4 - Advantage can overclock some, and is has a psu integrated.  Get a coupon if buying it's 400 off each.

One of those two is really best choices as I see.
