That's an insane ammount in donations. I just hope it's the correct address people are sending to.

They've been into Bitcoin for a long, long time. In fact they may have been one of the factors in Satoshi disappearing as one of his final posts was about them bringing unnecessary heat on Bitcoin when they adopted it for their finances.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2216.msg29280#msg29280

Many of those donations would've been a fraction of what they're worth today.

These people are called whales. You should know that by now. Some people trade with a few thousand worth of fiat, and the other does it with a few million. And why on an exchange as Bitfinex? Before the hack it was the best option for people looking to trade BTC/USD. Now it's the worst option.

It might have been the best option for liquidity, but certainly not the best for transparency and reliability, let alone accountability.

Anyone with a reasonably operative mind must have known perfectly well that something like this was a very strong possibility. No regulation, murky ownership, murky location, murky jurisdictions.

It's not a site that I ever felt tempted to place any trust in as soon as I looked into how it's run.
12783  Other / Meta / Re: Can someone please stop the girlbtc spam? on: October 19, 2016, 07:17:17 PM
Yes 'girl' bitcoin. I'm sure it's not a guy pretending to be a girl to gain people's trust Wink

Nah. Everyone is who they say there are on the internet.

And girls are hot with stuff like no willy and other things. I'd like to dry hump one some day so I'd give her some money if she asked me.
12784  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Any site like xapo on: October 19, 2016, 07:08:46 PM
No fees means either major investment like Xapo or Coinbase with all the security that entails, or outright scam. There won't be any middle ground. There are countless options for stuff with fees that gives you control. If you're doing faucets then just wait for it to build up to make a withdrawal economic.
12785  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: There is a HYIP that bothers me ... on: October 19, 2016, 07:06:42 PM
Here's what you need to know - eventually you will lose all of your money unless you're jammy enough to get out early enough. That's all there is to it. Enjoy.
12786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Moral dillema. Satoshi's coins. VOTE on: October 18, 2016, 09:54:02 PM
Do zilch. Who the hell is anyone to tell anyone else what to do with their coins? And aside from a handful, how do we know which blocks were Satoshis? Some very early miners might well have stayed under the radar. I think this million coin figure is a long way from reality.
12787  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is the least amount that can be called a 'decent' investment? on: October 18, 2016, 06:51:01 PM
I assume the OP means throwing money into piece of shit sites that'll promise the world and deliver nothing. In that case zero is by far the best amount.
12788  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 18, 2016, 05:31:59 PM
It's certainly been around for a long time. I particularly like this feature -  'Our conservative approach is why we don't yet offer public 'cash-out' for Ven'
12789  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 18, 2016, 04:45:28 PM
When I read a lot of these bitcoin forums, I get the sense from folks that they are attempting to suggest that republicans and libertarians are more inclined to support bitcoin while democrats and other kinds of liberals are less likely to support bitcoin.

It's right there on the page for you to read at your leisure. Give it a try.

The democrats regard Bitcoin as somehow tainted by an ideology they disagree with. Instead they're investigating something centralised and overwhelmingly irrelevant.
12790  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Mosul on: October 18, 2016, 04:18:49 PM
I find it a little bit strange that the invasion has been carefully laid out and updated in the media for several weeks. I thought it customary to have a tiny element in surprise.

Our friend Hillary can't take Bitcoin because republicans do. But she is interested in being donated some alt I've never heard of. I love a good 'blockchain' endorsement.

12792  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump is just beginning to fight. on: October 18, 2016, 04:01:03 PM
A friend's relative was Mrs Thatcher's personal physician. He made sure she was fully primed for the important speeches with his special 'potions'. His wife was also a lifelong morphine addict which he happily supplied her with. I'm sure it happens everywhere.

What type of fucking freak leaves $3 million on a piece of shit exchange like that in a far off land with no accountability? My mind boggles.
12794  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russia Today UK bank accounts shut down by Jewish bankers on: October 17, 2016, 09:34:23 PM
Man, those pesky Jews strike again. I never realised what a problem they were until this forum opened my eyes. I just thought they were another bunch of people but now I know who to blame when I stub my toe or when my cyst bursts in a hot date's face.
12795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NetBet Becomes the UK's First Licensed Gambling Site To Accept Bitcoin on: October 17, 2016, 08:49:15 PM
Add withdrawals or bugger off. I don't really know who they're going to appeal to as is. Crypto gamblers will stay with their fave sites. Newcomers will wonder why they have to buy something so they can throw it away on this site.
12796  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How To Help Sodomites? on: October 17, 2016, 08:46:18 PM
I think we should all buy them a big present. No particular reason. It's just nice to buy presents for people.
12797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why dump traditional payment options for Bitcoin? on: October 17, 2016, 08:41:08 PM
Er, I don't think there is any reason to dump traditional payment methods for first wordlers. They're instant, safe and hassle free. The only thing that could inspire people would be serious discounts. Most people don't give a fuck about centralisation, decentralisation or inflation. They just want to buy their shit.

It's a whole different ball game for merchants. They'd love every single angle about it. Unfortunately customers outnumber them quite significantly.
12798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Netflix Executive Wants Bitcoin as Global Currency, Considers It Cost-Effective on: October 17, 2016, 03:51:31 PM
Isn't this old news? and netflix haven't started accepting bitcoin yet.  Shocked

That's what I thought too. I seem to remember this being mentioned a relatively long time ago.

Like so many other businesses, Netflix relies on people not being bothered enough to cancel their subscription. If I had to manually do it every month I'd certainly think twice. I wonder how they plan to get around that little bit of psychology.
12799  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia Could Be the First Country to Pass a Cryptocurrency Law on: October 17, 2016, 02:36:39 PM

Russia's fave propaganda channel loses its UK bank accounts. Ah well. Looks like there's always Bitcoin after all. That would be a bit of fun.
12800  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can I open up a local shop and sell bitcoins for cash? on: October 17, 2016, 11:51:05 AM
There would be a lot of money launderer flocking to your shop in that case.

Yup. You'd get hammered instantly.

I get the feeling Texas is a bit more crypto friendly than other states but that sounds like the essence of money transmitting and they'd be all over you. Lawyer yourself up.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money_transmitter

'In the legal code of the United States, a money transmitter or money transfer service is a business entity that provides money transfer services or payment instruments.'
