13041  Other / Off-topic / Re: What would you like to be able to buy with BTC online? on: September 16, 2016, 06:58:14 PM
I tried buying food online (coffee ) to be exact and I don't like it...I think foods should be bought on the grocery or markets where you can inspect it with your eyes physically and not just it's picture...

Yes. I've experimented with online grocery ordering and haven't been too impressed. I'm very fussy about my food and I also want the latest dates. If you physically go to the supermarket you can root around in the back and get an item that'll be fresh for another 2-5 days.

The online grocery picker isn't going to give a shit about the date as long as it's still valid. There's a lot of potential wastage there.
13042  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-09-16] Self-Driving Cars Don’t Need Uber, They Need Digital Cash on: September 16, 2016, 06:33:16 PM
The sooner the 'sharing economy' is wiped out the better. It's a bunch of psychopathic corporate pricks pretending they're hip while making life shit and miserable for the real people they're exploiting.

I don't like the idea of buy to let properties. Owning a fleet of self operating cars sounds like it's rather more fun and achievable and I assume that no matter what happens there has to be a human in there somewhere in the chain.
13043  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Forget Brexit, the UK will get mass surveillance instead on: September 16, 2016, 06:26:58 PM
Our new overlord has quite the track record in trying the make the UK a more oppressive place.

I was under the impression that the UK was already the most surveilled society by quite a long way. I can't say it's made it feel any more safe and there's far more violent crime than the US ironically enough. Good job we're not allowed guns.
13044  Other / Politics & Society / Re: When and how was the individualistic and I don't care mindset impose in USA? on: September 16, 2016, 06:24:30 PM

 Self-reliance....
There seems to be a lot of that sentiment in the USA; they don't even like to use the word welfare and yet one-third of Americans are on some form of means-tested-benefit.

Yeah. You're not allowed to say those words out loud. It ruins their rugged image.

What tickles me is that they spend more than double per head on health than certain countries with totally free healthcare. I suppose the extra is a capitalism tax.
13045  Economy / Speculation / Re: why should anyone invest in btc right now? on: September 16, 2016, 06:22:17 PM
Is there really a future for it?  Where would btc be used instead of your traditional cashless money via debit/credit cards etc?

You've come to the worst possible place for an objective opinion. I myself don't think usage as a currency will be very widespread. For better or worse I think digital gold is a more likely outcome but anything could happen.

13046  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: remember "Death Spiral" and "Miners Quitting" before halving! on: September 16, 2016, 06:03:37 PM
i wonder whether hashrate will follow similar patterns for future halvings. Surely there's a point where hashing speeds will start to plateau and I assume electricity cost is a very fluid thing. What's free or negligible now may be rather more if population centres spring up.
13047  Economy / Economics / Re: How to win BTC with Crowdfunding? on: September 15, 2016, 10:59:33 PM
This does raise an interesting point though, donations through bitcoin. How many charities accept or deal in bitcoin? How much crowd funding is being done with bitcoin as the primary source of currency?

You've got the Water Project which just reported a big BTC donation. The RNLI, which is a big charity in the UK saving lives at sea accepts it too.

I don't think crowd funding and Bitcoin is a great combo. There's value fluctuations and the overwhelming attraction to scam.
13048  Other / Politics & Society / Re: When and how was the individualistic and I don't care mindset impose in USA? on: September 15, 2016, 08:08:13 PM
I think self reliance is an innate American characteristic. Go there and feel how empty it is. You could wander for weeks and never meet anyone else.

If the current crop of settlers started that way then it's going to create a very different mindset compared to anywhere in Europe where people crawl around like ants and always have done.
13049  Other / Meta / Re: This is probably the most amusing thing I've seen on Bitcointalk this year on: September 15, 2016, 08:04:13 PM
Assumptions like that could get you and your BTC into trouble.

I don't use a Windows machine for anything Bitcoin or cyrpto related. Ever. Apart from this forum of course. I subjected myself to linux for as long as it took on a nuked machine.
13050  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 15, 2016, 06:43:42 PM
Why would you want this?

I genuinely don't know as I only use a phone for phone calls and sending photos of my winkle to people. I suppose it saves the handful of calories it requires to fish a card out. I'm not a huge smartphone fan and don't want to lose my entire life if mine goes walkies.
13051  Other / Meta / Re: This is probably the most amusing thing I've seen on Bitcointalk this year on: September 15, 2016, 06:31:26 PM
I'm rather dim when it comes to this stuff. How does visiting a website infect you if you don't download anything? Let's assume I'm adblocked and antivirused up too.
13052  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-09-15] Declining Profitability For New Miners Threatens Bitcoin on: September 15, 2016, 01:40:26 PM
Hashrate is rising. I don't really see how mining could become much more centralised than it is already. It's business as usual for better or worse.
13053  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Bitcoin related business would you start with $1M USD or ~ 1640 BTC? on: September 15, 2016, 01:14:39 PM
Gambling or exchanges aside, I really don't think there's a Bitcoin business that won't set all of your money on fire at this moment in time. Nothing retail related will do it as there aren't enough people willing to spend it.
13054  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 15, 2016, 01:12:07 PM
I really need more hopium. Please give me some. Development is sooooo slow. In the meanwhile this: https://tweakers.net/nieuws/115745/abn-amro-begint-met-test-voor-nfc-betalingen-met-android-smartphones.html, Dutch bank experiments with Android wallet and payment via NFC.

Man, those pesky Dutch are a long way behind. It's been possible to do this in the UK since before the wheel was invented.
13055  Economy / Speculation / Re: SHOULD BUY BITCOIN RIGHT NOW OR WAITING FOR THE END OF THE YEAR 2106? on: September 15, 2016, 12:55:23 PM
Why not cost average? A drip feed every week. Anyone who's done that over an extended period of time has probably come out on top.
13056  Economy / Exchanges / Re: How much profit is Poloniex bringing each day? on: September 15, 2016, 12:15:15 PM
Hey, let's not forget front running. There's no law against it and they'd be sorely tempted to do it. They must be swirling in insider info as well. Witness the ETC launch. That was proper fishy.
13057  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading, emotions and your fine selves on: September 15, 2016, 12:11:52 PM
I think even the most professional traders also use emotion when do trading

They bet on the emotions of others to make profit as they know the vast majority don't have a grip on them. If they themselves don't then they'll be someone else's lunch.
13058  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Edward Snowden makes "moral" case for presidential pardon on: September 15, 2016, 02:07:40 AM
I think I'm more likely to receive a presidential pardon for farting on my grandma's head when I was a youngling than Mr Snowden.
13059  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Leaked documents reveal secretive influence of corporate cash on politics on: September 14, 2016, 06:37:03 PM
Is this any type of news? It's bleedin' obvious to any human with a functioning mind. We may as well go the whole hog and assume that anyone with the most money knows best so they should decide.
13060  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analysis on: September 13, 2016, 09:29:00 PM
This past year's gradual bullish sentiment (and where I think we all know we're headed) got me to thinking of old times when Masterluc said this crazy thing, and it made a lot of people upset...

I love stuff like this. I gave up making calls even in the privacy of my own mind a very long time ago. It must be a fine feeling to have it all pan out as you expect.
