I traveled for about a week only to see BitShares, Stellar and Dogecoin all (significantly) surpassing (in market cap) this sadly mis-branded coin of ours. Would someone bother to kindly summarize what has happened with BTS, STR and DOGE, why such a big spike in prices?

To me it is hard to understand too. I think it was Minotaur who said that it was a Chinese pump and that most volume was over there. Really weird.

It is specifically a BTC38 pump with nearly 80% of the volume since the beginning of the pump, for those three assets  STR, BTS and DOGE there was no fundamental change. Ask yourself why exclusively BTC38 as a common denominator and not other exchanges? They must be in on it.

This has nothing to do with Dash, it has preserved its price range, it is actually quite impressive the stability Dash shows,  this has happened at different stages like when when we where at the 600K satoshis range. We just need to keep working like Evan is doing.

It is hard to say what will happen, but honestly with these pumps if you are not part of it from the beginning you should stay out, if not you are the one giving liquidity for others to exit.

Thank you guys. I personally could not care less for any of these coins - I have 100% of my crypto assets in the most idiotically mis-branded asset in the history of the world (f.k.a. the best fucking name ever, Darkcoin), a grave mistake that does not let me sleep for I fear it might kill the best technology in this space.

Yes, the world is that stupid and I am a part of that stupidity as well.

I think we all should calm down a bit and give bitfinex some time. I definitely wouldn't like to lose them just because we are pushing too hard and they have some reasonable issues adapting everything fast.

This was announced to users and services a few days ago to give them time to prepare, but expect some coexistence of both brands for some time while everyone adapts.
https://www.dashpay.io/news/darkcoin-is-now-dash/

They are idiots. If they want to be a serious exchange than they need to list a proper symbol. Would Nasdaq refuse to change XYZ symbol if the company had changed its name to ZYX?

They are also crooks. The way they compute margin resulted in some loses on my end. They never replied to presented evidence etc., so I wish them a slow but sure death Smiley

I'm a little concerned that the entire MN network can reach 80%+ compliance with a protocol bump within 48 hours, but that 96 hours after an MN vote is initialized, we still have less than 50% participation...and the voting process is not that difficult (log into VPS, type "./dashd masternode vote yea" and log off VPS).

The vote is open for 2 weeks.

If you look at the Etherum sale, most were sold at the last minute. People were (conjecture) waiting to see what was what.

Then there are those that don't keep up with the threads (or go MIA, see above).

Being on the wrong protocol means you can get bumped off the network, so I guess people check for some things.

Also, abstain basically = no. What's to say no voters can't be bothered to vote, because they have by default?

It's true that abstain is a "soft" no, but all abstentions become irrelevant once the preset quorum is reached (in this case, 50%+1). I doubt abstention is presently being used as a negative voting strategy, since a "hard" no would be durable no matter how many people had voted. At this point, abstentions look like apathy.

P.S. I'm wondering of Otoh's 25% of the MN network has voted or not. If not, it could indicate that he is reluctant to overly influence the project (unlike what some detractors have said) in which case it implies that only 25% of the network is not participating.

And just like that, vote jumped from 48 to 72, thanks for asking Smiley

If Otoh with his 600++ MNs just voted, you have your answer.

The Vindication of Edward Snowden

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics...ion-of-edward-snowden/392741/?utm_source=SFFB

Awesome, I hope the poor boy will be able to come home soon.  Even if 99.9% of Americans are too stupid to understand what he did for us, what it took, the bravery, the sacrifice, I hope he knows the rest of us do understand and are in awe of his strength!

The link is broken. http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/05/the-vindication-of-edward-snowden/392741/ is the correct one.

I would not say 99.9% of all Americans are "too stupid..." but one must admit, no matter the percentage, the "average" American has zero chance of getting anything. Never before a nation had been exposed -- to generations and generations long -- merciless propaganda where lies are truths and truthsayers are the "enemy," like Ed Snowden...

Where is the rule
"ABSTAIN do not have a vote"
Why we need to count on them?

I think, to be nimble, in the future, votes will work on a quorum or something.  But for this first vote, we want it to be a popular vote (meaning, a majority of all the Masternode owners need to feel good about this idea).  Frankly, I'm shocked that it's taking so long to get half the MNds to vote. Where is everyone?  Is it too hard to do?  Perhaps there are that many people on the fence, but I can't imagine there are so many out there without an opinion!

It seems some 1,395 MN did not vote. Otoh himself has about 50% of these MNs so if he did not vote yet, herein you have a half of your answer, And there are other big holders, one with more MNs than Otoh...

I dont know where you get your information but that is not correct. Otoh is the #1 holder there are no other holders with more nodes, plus he invested a large amount and bought all coins on the market.

good grief...I feel like a small fry with my MN's Sad ,   but I did my part and voted!  Wink

From his own statement - in a discussion about "someone else" having more - but that does not matter, who has 1 or 500++ MN. All I said was a speculation. If he had not voted...

While masternode list votes shows all the nodes, these are not working:

dashd masternode list votes | grep -c YEA
dashd masternode list votes | grep -c NAY
dashd masternode list votes | grep -c ABSTAIN

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for that link.

Here's another interesting one. Jim Willie has been saying that China is soon going to 'call the West's bluff' over its physical gold inventories and launch their own Yuan denominated 'gold fix'.

Well here it is, right on schedule: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-05-06/china-establish-yuan-denominated-gold-fix-bid-upend-london-benchmark

Apart from everything else thats going on, this could cause a mini revolution in world finance.

It will take some time before the 500 years circle paradigm shift from West to East concludes its first round. Everyone knows the U.S. will nuke them if some drastic decision would aim at undermining the U.S. ("West") world dominance / tyranny overnight. They all need to work slowly, firstly establishing a parallel world / institutions that are not based and controlled in the West and let the West wither away or sink into the 2nd dark ages.

Stupidity of our Overlords boggles the mind, though. They are akin to a gangster in Las Vegas casino who has all the money from ongoing bank robbery to gamble while is holding a gun to the croupier's head and yet losses it Smiley

After reading this all my concerns, mostly around the notion that Dash does not have direction or a character, are over for good. As Dr. BobLQ said, commenting on this, "This is the sort of thing we have been dreaming of for a long time. Evan is the Thomas Jefferson of a new form of democracy."

This might usher us into a new era, and is now on all of us to decide are we going to live along the Dr. Marshall Rosenberg's words: "Get very clear about the kind of world we would like and then start living that way,” or not.

Took a loss on my long on DASH. Will see if the 0.001 Area holds like last time and maybe buy it there. So far every support level is broken.

Short term bearish. Similar situation going on with XMR

I am so sad. Was it Darkcoin that took such a hit I'd be buying left and right. With this (yet) undefined thingy called dash (arrgghhh) I look at my paper loss and wonder does it make any sense to stay invested with something that does not excite me anymore.

And I used to be a cold-hearted investor who never gets emotionally attached to an investment. Look at me now ==> I lost my only real crypto love, Darkcoin, and am pining for it, still trying to warm up to its successor, but its is not happening, it is not happening... Smiley Smiley

I think Evan has huge plans for DASH.  If you wanted it to stay a niche dark market coin, I'm pretty sure you're going to be disappointed.  If you want it to take over the world, then you'll want to stay here.  It can't take over the world with a name like Darkcoin.

Um, yah, take over the world, or a good chunk of it.  I'ts ok, you can call me crazy Wink  I don't mind Cheesy

What the world needs is a total paradigm shift, "a global revolution in the sphere of human consciousness," as Václav Havel, the Czech President, said
addressing a Joint Session of the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C. on February 21, 1990 and not some meek tweak on existing monstrosity. (electronic cash - digital dash)

I never understood "a niche dark market coin" argument. Dash could be used for same nefarious purposes as cash or Darkcoin or any other means of exchange. Trepidation, fueled by the Foundation vague fears of undefined dangers and vague non-committal non-promises from unnamed retailer and no-named exchanges, that created "re-branding" revealed the biggest weakness of this project: not its tech genius, its lack of character.

Do not get me wrong - Evan seems as a fantastic human being (charcter) and many guys and girls involved, you included, are the main reason why I am still here, and why I nibbled back to the point of owning (almost) the same number of "dash" as I had Darkcoins -- but the project itself that wants to be everything for everyone, while that "everyone" does not even know about existence of it, seems and feels as totally wrong approach.

Well, perhaps I would've told that to Bill Gates when he spoke about a personal computer on every desk, like in, who'd need that, I have no clue, but I was always very good in gauging the potential of a project and its possible outcome. Here and now I really have no clue does Dash have any real chance of succeeding. I really don't.

I wish it to succeed, after all I own a chunk of it and it would be nice to profit from it, but something does not smell right.

I am not forgetting enormous potential that is still here - just think of a remittance market (not an easy target to overcome, but huge to say the least) - and I can't foresee what sort of applications all of this could have in the real world and because of this weakness of mine, inability to predict, I am still on the fence.

We'll see, I guess...

Edit,
- i think we started the page 4-5 months ago
- Russian Video "Evan DRK intro" is top Viewed (1339 views) !!!
pretty interesting
months ago I post video in this topic
https://forum.bits.media/index.php?/topic/5740-dash-darkcoin/ (2444 messages and 123 pages)

WHOW, well done
(i love listening to evan in russian  Wink)
China + Russia are the biggest hitters after english speaking countries on the main webpage !

Edit:
i just started an extended idea here (time to be more proactive there i guess)
https://dashtalk.org/threads/russian-translated-videos.4692/

This is really interesting -- https://www.youtube.com/user/DarkcoinTV/videos?view=0&sort=p&flow=grid -- by far the most views are for the Russian version. I am curious about analytics, how much of the video they really watch i.e. how many of us went there out of curiosity. (clicked on the video and left without really watching it)

Chinese Mandarin, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian seem like a good focus.

I think I rambled on way too much, my question/points were:

DASH needs development and needs to grow, because it's the best solution out there IMO and in other's opinion, and we want to see it take over the world.

To succeed, DASH needs to grow.  It needs a super easy interface for the masses, one that makes it super easy to keep your funds safe.  It needs mature services.  loans? how does that work in a decentralized, deflationary economy?  Stock market, other infrastructure.  Unlike Banks, DASH and the masternode system lend themselves to many other solutions such as a decentralized exchange, a decentralized market place, a decentralized private internet.  The sky is the limit, and it's natural for DASH to expand in these ways.

But who will pay for all this work?  The potential is there, but funds are not.  Are there decentralized ways to fund a decentralized autonomous corporation, perhaps using this new voting system for decision making?  That could earn money to pay for future development?  Does anyone see a way that this could work.  It's not easy!  If this entity, like Andreas Antonopoulos explains, can own it's own funds, and spend them when needed, this is very intriguing.  How would projects get the green light?  How would this entity be funded?

Do you think, as I do, that something like this must happen for DASH to survive into the distant future?

With DASH at $3.00 a worth of newly created units are valued at $241,452.00 a month. So if all of us would give up 5% of MN revenue, it would be $12,072.60 a month. (at 4% it would be $9,658.08)

Would be too much to ask to give 4% of the profit other people's work is creating for you / me / us to support the project? I know many people would be strongly against a mandatory contributions, but what if a wallet one uses for MN would have a simple option, check this box and 4% goes toward... ??

And if this fails (less than 50% of us do that) we try more.

I suspect, given Evan's approach of seeing MN as bonds and his background in finance, that Dash would see its future as an IPO, where Masternodes would be shares and have their own value, much higher than the compounded worth of Dash units in it...

Who knows how all this would develop, but I am for sure as curious as hell Smiley

Tante you haven't rambled at all. You've put up an incredibly important set of questions and points about the future of Dash (and frankly all open source based 'community' style projects). There can't be too much emphasis placed on how important the points you've raised are.

I'm in the middle of something so can't give it my attention right now, but hope to respond in teh next day or two (and I'm sure Toknormal, Bridgewater and others will be busily thinking about what you've written too).

One of the main reasons The Foundation's members were pushing for re-branding were "certain exchanges" and "some retailers" that were adamant "We will never accept this coin as long as it is called Darkcoin."

Well, R.I.P. Darkcoin, so I wonder, what is the progress with these "exchanges" and "retailers," are they going to accept Dash now or was that just a ruse? Does anyone know about any REAL progress with some of the REAL businesses that were not going to accept Darkcoin but might Dash? Are they going to do it or not?

I am curious...
