13341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: (Unofficial) [ANN] Litecoin [LTC] to X11 algorithm hardfork on: March 30, 2014, 08:32:22 PM
X11 is stupid, only algo that is asic proof is scrypt chacha with scheduled N factor changes on a rather frequent schedule. Frequent enough to put down asic development.

No such thing as asic-proof with most common algorithms. If the schedule is known in advance, an ASIC designer can make the necessary accommodations.

If on the other hand the coin is protected by the will of the devs to hardfork to something slightly different, then any algorithm is ok. For example just as scrypt-n could change the n factor, X11 could hardfork to reverse the flow of hashing between some hash types, thus braking ASIC functionality that expects the flow to go a certain way. Or even adding another two three hashes and making it X12/X13/X14/X15 etc.

QFT

EDIT:
I would also like to add that if and when the Devs do this they will have PROVEN that they are willing and able to hard fork when needed and then those that would profit on creating the ASIC for the next fork will realize it is doomed to failure before release and therefor will naturally not attempt it again.
13342  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM **COINS-e.com***SCAM list of unhappy customers on: March 30, 2014, 06:39:32 PM
Hey everybody!

Just an update on the situation. I sat with Vignesh today and we put together a support team and process to handle all current requests. Some of the issues are as silly as pressing a button on our end and others require an update of the entire blockchain. Right now most issues have already been resolved. We are updating the Doge Coin and Bitcoin client to prevent a fork and 0-conf issues. Any delays in Doge coin or Bitcoin withdrawals will be processed within the next 24-48 hours. If you're having specific issues please refer to:

https://coins-e.freshdesk.com

Thanks for your patience!
If you get control of Coin-E make sure to start a announce thread and post in this thread as I and I'm sure others would remove it from our "stay the Fuck away" list. I have removed the warning from my sig as it looks like it is moving in the right direction.

...
The intent of LTC when released was to be resistant to GPUs/FPGAs/ASICs for the foreseeable future. One quickly went down, and with the advance in lithographic technologies and geometry creation, the second is being bypassed and it's going straight to the third one.

As a note, the thread on the LTC forum is not from the "developers" who want to fork LTC. So it still looks like profit motive. Maybe this is the new paradigm that people are going to use to make money now: forking already existing coins to new algorithms with the intent of "ASIC-resistance."

I will say, ASICs are just a new starting barrier for a coin. In no way does it decentralize the system as anyone is still able to participate in the system. In fact, ASICs provide the service of securing a blockchain which is just as important. After all, the same arguments happened with CPU vs. GPU. And in fact, for a long time, GPU was akin to ASICs as only certain cards could mine more effectively and we had a whole bunch of hobbyists trying to outdo each other by tweaking existing components to gain an additional edge. ASICs to me are just the next evolution of that. The difference is that instead of manipulation from the hardware level, it's being done at the wafer level.

You should drop this post in that thread. I don't think I agree that ASIC secures a blockchain. Once a quantum computer comes out any blockchain is in danger and centralizing with ASIC is the wrong direction in my mind. Think On this, any large enough government can and may use ASIC tech to centralize hash and take control (Bitcoin better watch for this). It can be done now with the Us gov if the will was there.
13344  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin [LTC] X11 hardfork at block 564,480 on: March 30, 2014, 06:28:11 PM
I find it very concerning that the main developers aren't behind this and may not even have had an opportunity to view this proposal, let alone comment on it. I also find it very concerning how lightly these guys are taking the idea of a hard fork. To hard fork a chain as established as Litecoin is without some chain-breaking emergency going on (i.e. Scrypt found to be completely broken), you need at least a year and a very good plan. The premise of leaving a placeholder for the new client downloads and making it seem like a block has already been chosen for the fork is misleading at best, if not outright fraudulent.

Therefore, in the interest of protecting the Bitcoin community, I have rightly flagged this thread as unofficial. You should be ashamed of having posted this.

Good tag, but we all know this can never happen without Dev approval so it is a good discussion to have. After all As far as I know LTC was specifically intended to be ASIC proof. Or am I wrong on this?
13345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin [LTC] X11 hardfork at block 564,480 on: March 30, 2014, 06:23:40 PM

We cannot say it was really a ninja launch, there was a thread mentioning that a new coin would be launched. Just the hour of the launch wasn't mentioned.

Regarding the 7am launch time, depends which country you live in.

But this thread is for discussing the X11 for LTC, ASICS will probably make the price go up, but they'll stay in the hands of few.

Lets keep this on topic, those that advertise other coins in this thread get the obligatory ignore.

Be careful when withdrawing your BTC on Poloniex right now... I tried to withdraw 1BTC this morning and it somehow landed in a different address when I look at the block chain even with confirmation to my personal wallet. Waiting for a response from support right now.

Oh shit that's all we need is another exchange issue. Sad

You guys read this?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=549572.0

I'm reading it now.
There is understandable trepidation behind scrypt ASICs. And that's fine.

However, it is not fine to affect hundreds of millions of dollars and investment because of said trepidation. Going renegade is a disservice to the developers and to the community. Even with all of the anti-ASIC rhetoric, I still feel a change to the algorithm is still a fringe movement. If they truly cared about LTC, they would have posted this on the LTC forum first and linked it to the BTC forum.

All I see again, is profit motive.

I think LiteCoin was designed to be Asic proof was it not? That was what differentiated it from bitcoin.

Here is Litecoin community thread.

https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=18122.0

I think I would support Asic protection but I'm not sure if X11 is the right choice for LTC.

decentralized = anti ASIC
ASIC gives the Hash to a few people only. The idea of LTC was anti ASIC.

So go for it

THIS.

I don't see a link to chain explorer in OP and CoinEX needs to be removed from Pool and exchange list (at least temporarily: I expect it is done).

OK, found Block Explorer in OP. kind of buried though not sure how to change that maybe larger bolded font?

Austin Global is currently testing a public market info API and as well a as a trade API. We have reached out to a number of sites and are working with them to make sure we provide the data and level of service they require to list Austin Global and its markets. We do anticipate rolling out the market data API very soon with the trade API following a few weeks later.

We have been working hard on making a number of tweaks to the site that we will be rolling out soon. Stay tuned and follow us on Twitter for more updates.

Why is the old logo back on coinwarz?

Sorry guys, we've kept the 'N' as it is the most widely recognized symbol for Noble now. We love the eagle design but when shrunk it looks quite dark, brooding and hard to make out for those who don't recognize NobleCoin. The N sits well next to B(itcoin), D(ogecoin), L(itecoin) etc.
Do you think it might be good to have them add our price/volume from AGX? I'm not sure if they would, but we have twice as much volume and usually a higher price.
Nope it is not possible yet as AGX does not have a trade API. There is no way cor Coinwarz (or my site CoinTweak) to get the data from their website.

EDIT: maybe you can support this ticket to show that you want it Smiley https://agx.zendesk.com/hc/communities/public/questions/200876783-Public-market-API?locale=en-us

Good news this.

Any suggestions for a reliable exchange for DOGE?
Vircurex is out of the question, Cryptsy and cryptorush is not too reliable either?

What are the options nowadays? Private exchange with escrow?

I sell At bter It's usually higher and no stuck coins for days like craptsy.

Ok, so this is a one time only offer. The first 10 people to mine on the charity pool at https://nobl.charityminingpools.com and stay on there for at least 24 hours get 1000 noble each.

Either reply on this thread, or PM me.

Under 100kh gets 500 Noble.

James

Edit: No I am not affiliated with the pool, I just hate a good idea going to waste

OK, I'll throw my main card from poolerino on there. whats the addy.

Send the 1k to the water charity.

Just had another card die so down to 2 on my mining rig and it's hitting Doge while price and dif are LOW!

Gigabyte RMA's are slow. 2 cards in as many weeks is lousy.

Anybody else get sticker shock from elec bill this month? doubled!

Thanks Smiley

My electric for mine equates to roughly £1 a day. Though I only have 1 280x

I'm sorry guys but I would like to try and bring some logic to lessen ASIC worries.  So I'll address these issues one at a time:

  • "People using ASICs to mine will ultimately bring more coins into the ecosystem and more large sell offs [also known as "dumping]."
Okay, this can be argued both on the technical level regarding coin production, and argued on the economic level regarding miner selling habits.
First off ASICs do not mean more coins will be produced.  It means difficulty will rise, which in-turn helps keep coin production constant.  Very few people will mine at
a loss electricity wise, meaning that a higher difficulty very often leads to a higher price.  Note:  ASICs will push difficulty higher but lower coin production [mining] costs,
so it should not adversely effect values.  Secondly, nearly all miners with more than 2MH/s in hash-power are looking to pay expenses and get a return on their investment,
GPU miners are no different from ASIC users in this regard.

  • "ASIC miners will ultimately decimate the Alt-Coin scene in both profitability and value"
I'm sorry but I fail to see the basis for this argument.  Yes, GPU miners will be pushed out, just like they were in regards to SHA-256 mining, that didn't mean Bitcoin died out.
Refer to the above points for more reasoning behind why it ultimately won't "destroy" these currencies.

  • "Scrypt ASICs favor those with more investment capital, meaning the rich get richer and it is unfair in regards to cryptocurrency."
Again, this is no different from GPU mining.  There are those with numerous GPUs running solely for the sake of mining, it is no different from
ASICs.  More capital ultimately means more currency for an individual, its just how it all works.  ASICs don't change this.

Note I do not own any ASIC mining hardware, so I say all of this not to protect my own investments.  I do run multiple GPU mining units though,
and while I can see that in regards to Scrypt I am a dying breed, I'm not going to spread FUD to try and help secure my economic position.
Thank you for reading.

Good points and I disagree. I'm not going to go into a lengthily point by point but I am going to state you cannot equate alt coins to BTC. Period, so your premise is flawed from inception.

Quote
We will be releasing a bit of a 'manifesto' over the weekend regarding everything that has been in discussion across the entire forum (our ANN and BTCT) for the last three months to clear the air and answer any questions. It will answer everything on tech., forks, algorithms, and everything non-technical. I have literally spent 18 hours a day for 3 months on NobleCoin and very deep in this scene, too deep if I wanted to keep my idealistic view on crypto. (a year beforehand on cryptocurrency but not as time intensive or at the same level). I think it's time we set our gameplan, intentions, 'standards' and 'policies' in stone. I don't think anyone who has stuck with us at this point will be unhappy with how we're going to take it forward as the 'short-term profit-taking coin-hoppers' have long moved on (I don't begrudge them, but at this point they are no longer a part of Noble). In fact I'm hoping it sets a solid anchor for us to move forward and brings a lot more people into the community to support us in one way or another.

I will be looking forward to this, your insights are spot on as far as I've been able to glean so far.

13358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BETA][EXCHANGE][REALTIME] CoinEX realtime exchange on: March 28, 2014, 08:55:04 PM
Hi all,

We have managed to gather about 50% of missing funds in bitcoins, we will be buying missing altcoins with them this weekend. After some calculations we came to a conclusion that 50% is a fair number to resume exchange operation and if all the users wont withdraw their funds right away, we can keep it running using fee incomes to get the second missing part covered with them. We also called several security audit companies to do an audit for coinex. We're sorry for this to take so long but it should be understandable that recovering a business from this point is really ALOT of work. I am personally a rare guest at forums and other chats since chatting doesnt really help to get it back to life, it only takes time from getting the actual things done.

Again, I am personally giving my apologies for bad estimates about restoring our services, this is a tough thing to try and estimate time for it as it depends on too much factors, like altcoin markets not being deep enough to buy in alot of coins missing from our exchange.

Another personal note: as a try to gather more funds, I am selling my GPU farm now which is 24x Radeon HD 7990 and I will be happy to send it anywhere around the world and accept bitcoins as a payment method. Those bitcoins will go to cover the coinex losses, too. You can find a pic of my rigs attached, you can buy the whole rigs or just the cards as you wish.

Time for X11? ASIC's and one hit multi's looking for targets.

Most coins are getting protected and now that doge is the field of targets has diminished considerably.

Rofo you need to seriously think on this. This coin cannot afford to be massively dumped.

Yesterday Dif rose to 7.5 then dropped to 2 or so so they are getting a quicker switching algorithm that is getting around the 1 dif retarget.

AFA Pools. I have used Poolerino from day 1 and have never had an issue (Except that pita invalid token so i have to enter the friggin captcha twice every friggin time). And Mike is always available and a supporter and follower of this thread. I can also vouch for Hash. So, I use it alot when I am fast switching coins.

We need the P2pool setup. I miss the days I could code. Never grow old and broken.

These scrypt ASICs are gonna totally decimate the entire altcoin market unless coins take steps to protect themselves.
That wouldn't even make sense... People pay big cash for those ASIC miners, why would they destroy the coins they mine. They need to get their investment money back. Coins will however have to prove themselves more then ever because the weak and unsupported coins may not survive it. And the coins you are mining right now might even be worth a lot more because there will be a much much higher difficulty and a lot less people will be able to mine. Sure, in the transition period where only a few ASICs are out the difficulty will be in between and you get mined away by them but once the market settles and adjusts to these new changes the stronger coins will live.

You my friend are making the assumption that people as a whole are intelligent enough to realize this when it has been proven time and time again there are those that will destroy the long term for short term gains. You can see this anywhere throughout history and I doubt I have to point out examples of current events to show this has not changed. Wink

It took me a lifetime to realize just how moronic the general population really is.
