it would certainly be good to have a comparison between merits circulation of pre and post activity.
For instance, inactive merit sources within last 20 days Vs merit circulation within last 20 days.
I keep weekly data in this topic. For the past weeks:
Total: 737258
Total: 743044
Total: 747592
Total: 752115
Total: 757074
Total: 761428
Total: 765913
Total: 770835
Total: 775831

And here's all-time sent Merit graphs for the users in the OP:

Each column width is 10 days (8 pixels). "Days" start the second the first Merit was transfered, and count exactly 10*3600*24 seconds after that. It has nothing to do with calendar days in any time zone.
The maximum is 150 Merit per column (1 pixel per Merit). If more than 150 Merit was transfered in a 10 day period, the top of the column gets darker.

13346  Economy / Speculation / Re: My 'vast' BTC hodl on PayPal on: October 30, 2020, 01:03:23 PM
robinhood is the same deal. you dont get an actual address to even see it directly on chain. so nothing on the blockchain, purely an internal database. so no way to directly enter or leave the platform.
It feels like buying "paper gold". Weirdly enough, I am completely confident buying stocks through a broker in exactly the same way. I won't ever get them in my physical posession, and I can only sell them through the same broker I bought them from. Maybe I could get used to buying Bitcoin through a trusted broker in the same way, but it doesn't feel right to abandon all benefits it offers only to turn it into an investment.
For really long term purposes (like pensions), I'd like not to have to remember passwords or store seed key phrases.

Quote
as for freezing accounts, sure. any "exchange" can do that. any centralized thing can be frozen. but everyone should already be aware of that.
I trust my normal bank or broker a lot more than I trust Paypal. But indeed, for long-term storage, I wouldn't trust a crypto exchange more than I trust Paypal.
13347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: EXT4 file system for usb node. on: October 30, 2020, 12:25:24 PM
The full node on the notebook that uses an external HDD is sync'ing nicely, but slowly. I'm only a year behind now. It's been slow because I have limited access to decent connections.
If you have to rely on public Wifi, would it be possible to physically copy the blockchain from someone? Then, just to be sure, let your own Bitcoin Core check all blocks (I don't think --rescan is enough, but I'm not sure what would suffice).

Quote
once the HDD note is up to date, I'll have a go at creating a pruned node for the netbook. I'm hoping that I can manage this from a copy of the blockchain, and I won't need to download the lot again.
I've done this before, and it works fine: just copy the blockchain, and change settings to pruning.
13348  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Looking for some tools to work on private keys on: October 30, 2020, 12:07:56 PM
Actually all the fuzz is about restoring physically damaged paper wallet. WIFC key, some symbols here and there are damaged and there is no way to restore them physically.
What do you mean by "WIFC"? Is that a compressed WIF?
If it's a more or less "standard" problem, using existing software is much faster than trying to create your own method to restore the keys.

How many characters are missing? I've used a C-program that could restore up to 5 characters within a few minutes, as long as you know the location of the missing characters. See elbandi's post.

There's also The FinderOuter, a bitcoin recovery tool that may help.
13349  Economy / Speculation / Re: My 'vast' BTC hodl on PayPal on: October 30, 2020, 10:35:22 AM
Look do I think anyone should have 25%-100% of their BTC on PayPal alone .

Hell no.

But a few bucks worth? yes.
But why? I can only see drawbacks, no benefits. From Forbes.com:
Quote
PayPal wouldn't let users transfer their cryptocurrency into or out of PayPal

To me, this looks like the worst of both worlds: Paypal is now an exchange that only lets you deposit and withdraw fiat. You can exchange it to Bitcoin, but you can only keep in on the exchange. Combine that with the fact that Paypal is well known to freeze accounts, and I wouldn't want to use this. But I'll follow your adventures with them anyway Cheesy

For all those saying that this will "increase btc adoption"
If anything, it can only increase Bitcoin speculation. There's literally nothing else you can do with your Bitcoin on Paypal.

As we know PayPal has a chargeback issue. Since you bought BTC via PayPal account, I am a little curious to know if there is still a chargeback (dispute) option for crypto when you are using crypto PayPal to PayPal.
That's probably why Paypal doesn't allow you to transfer the Bitcoin to another account directly. It goes through fiat, so they can chargeback when needed.

It's not even correct though:

Litecoin: designed to be a future payment method and can be mined more quickly than Bitcoin - producing one new coin every 2.5 minutes (whereas Bitcoin produces one every 10 minutes).

Can I use Cryptocurrencies to pay or send money with PayPal?
At this time, you cannot use Crypto as a way to pay or send money on PayPal.

Can I use my Cryptocurrency balance as a funding source for my purchases?
No, not at this time.
They had a great opportunity, and they blew it Sad

Quote
Can I use my Crypto assets as a funding source to pay merchants?
No, users cannot use Crypto as a funding instrument for commerce at this time, though this is planned for 2021.
It's as if this FAQ was written by different people who didn't read what the others were writing.

I made a Cryptocurrency purchase in error - can I cancel or reverse it?
I apologize for this situation, but there isn't a way to cancel or reverse Cryptocurrency transactions.
Wait what? First they say it's only Paypal internal, then they say it can't be reversed. This doesn't make much sense.
13350  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA] BPIP Extension - user info add-on / extension for Firefox, Chrome, et al on: October 30, 2020, 09:28:57 AM
Might be just a bug, but I thought I'd mention it in the post it was mentioned:
~
I'm using Tor Browser 10.0.0.2 and (presumably) the latest BPIP extension
I can't reproduce this in my Tor browser (without extension). It'll probably be fixed when I add a title to the page. I was waiting to complete it until I choose a design, but that got delayed too waiting for something else to complete, which got delayed too.
13351  Economy / Reputation / Re: [List] Merit Sources without activty in the past 20 days on: October 30, 2020, 09:24:20 AM
It is possible that n merit sources were removed at the same time n were added, and the sum total of their source merit was equal to each other.
From what I've seen, new Merit sources usually start with a lower amount than existing Merit sources, so this is not very likely.

So each merit source has about seven or eight merits they can give out per day
No, you're talking about the average per Merit source. Some get only 10 per month, others gets hundreds to 1000+.

Quote
yet some of them claim they can't find posts to merit while yet other merit sources drop seven or eight on just one post seemingly every day.
Some sources are always out of sMerit, while others have to send more at one to empty their source.

Quote
(In other words they're not really looking that hard).
I can only speak for myself: I have 26.67 source sMerit per day to get rid of. On some days I send more than other days, so the amount I get replenished varies per day too. I always find myself short on time, and the work-from-home-thing only made that worse. I don't want to "look harder" to find more posts, that would mean I have to read much more posts than I already do. Being a Merit source doesn't get paid, just like reporting posts. I do both to support the forum, but you can't ask Merit sources to look harder just to Merit more posts. As of last Friday, I've sent 7495 Merit transactions to 1901 users. Sending them more than one at a time makes the "merit economy" ~ less top-down. As long as it doesn't end up on spammers, it's fine with me Smiley
13352  Economy / Reputation / Re: [List] Merit Sources without activty in the past 20 days on: October 29, 2020, 07:09:24 PM
I would not be surprised if some of those on the above list have been removed as merit sources.
Unlikely, Merit sources hasn't changed in a long time.
13353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: cancel old transaction / update my blockchain? on: October 29, 2020, 06:43:19 PM
Since my blockchain hasn't been updated since then and is therefore almost 5 years in behind, I would like to know what happens if I run the update? Would the transaction still be executed or not?
If your Bitcoin Core is still trying to broadcast it, that might actually happen. I've never waited this long, but I've also never seen Bitcoin Core stop broadcasting a transaction before it's confirmed.

Quote
Would there be a way to cancel the transaction?
First: backup your wallet.dat!
Then, use zapwallettxes:
Code:
  -zapwallettxes=<mode>
Delete all wallet transactions and only recover those parts of the
blockchain through -rescan on startup (1 = keep tx meta data e.g.
account owner and payment request information, 2 = drop tx meta
       data)

I'm not sure if it fits all your requirements, but bitcoin-tool is probably a good start. I don't want to provide a link, because I'm not sure if the Github link I find is the official one. I downloaded my copy years ago. Just to be sure: run it in a VM to protect your (offline) host.

Private correspondence should always remain private and should not be published publicly.I hope you agree that publishing my personal message here is a mistake.
I assume you've sent the same message to many users, and if they choose to answer your questions, they'll also quote the questions from your PM and post them here. In this case, I don't think this requires confidentiality.

I'm not sure also if I am the same which I was yesterday. I'm unsure if my wife is my wife
Whenever my wife and I are watching TV and the show is about time travel, cloning or multiverses, I try to find a loophole for which my wife agrees it's not cheating Cheesy Most of the time she says it's cheating though, and unfortunately I forgot the rare circumstances in which I found an actual approved loophole! I should write a book Cheesy
