1341  Economy / Economics / Re: If you can't pay your mortgage or car lease can you bring keys? on: February 17, 2024, 12:02:58 PM
I believe that banks must've figured out these scenarios where a person takes loan for house or a car lease and doesn't pay or stops the instalment payments along the way, perhaps the person drops keys as the OP said, they'll look into the circumstances to know why the customer acted how they did. I believe that the outcome of their investigation will determine how they'll plan to recover their money.

I'm not so knowledgeable about mortgages and car lease but I know that if a person takes loan from a bank and defaults payments, that the bank will do everything possible to recover their capital and interest, this is why they ask for collaterals and guarantors before giving out loans. If the borrower doesn't pay back the loan, they'll go after the collateral and the loan guarantors. Finally I know that they'll blacklist the person, so that he'll not be given a loan in another bank, until he settles his loan repayment with them.

1344  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Preventive measures not to lose your btc on: February 16, 2024, 07:52:04 AM

2. Do not be fooled with their sweet words where they keeps asking you to invest and make money your interest within 24hrs to gain about 100 percent of your investment. Note; this is purely scam otherwise no other investment platform or anyone to be trading and giving you back 100 percent of your capitals.
This should be the first red flag to let you know it's false marketing and the go-to line of scammers. What business promises a hundred percent of returns in your investment after a day? Jeez! That's bastard money if you do the math! If there's one thing common about humans, it's greed. Not everyone will be keen to share their knowledge with the public, rather they will prefer to keep making the money for themselves. I feel if most investors were not so gullible and impatient to take in profits, there will be less of these incidences.
Scammers are being innovative but some are so desperate so you'd be able to tell by some moves they make. Most times the best thing to do before indulging in an investment you've not heard of before is to make your research.

When someone tells you that you can invest money in a project and within a very short period of time, like a few days, you'll get many times over your ROI, know then that it's a shining red flag and a sign for you to flee, so you must avoid it by all means. Common sense tells me that if an investment like that is possible, it'll be kept a secret as long as the profit keeps pouring in, because they'll keep reinvesting their money without anybody knowing, although the problem is that people that you trust can ignorantly sale the idea of investing in a scam investment, because they're told that it's legit. So the answer for me is to make research and have adequate knowledge of any investment before putting money into it, this includes buying Bitcoin and knowing how to secure your wallet.
1345  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Road to Bitcoin bull run on: February 15, 2024, 06:00:16 PM
My naija people I hail una, I hope say di dollar to naira rate wey de make our beloved naira to devalue everyday no too affect una Bitcoin journey to bull run. Anyhow we wey know wetin de for crypto matter suppose try to de do DCA method to de accumulate and hodle Bitcoin, no matter how small, because in approximately one year  time from now, hopefully we go get plenty ROI. Bitcoin halving de happen like leap year, because na once in every four years e de happen, and from research, after e happen na new ATH go follow within the next year.

So dis thread na morale to us say make we no give up for our Bitcoin hodling , based on di economic hardship wey we de face for our country now. Who sow in tears go reap in joy and happiness, e no easy but make we no give up, in di end success is certain. But las las, Bitcoin accumulation to bull season no be do or die affair, if we try  but no get money to de buy Bitcoin, because of di coming bull run, make we no kill ourselves, after dis bull run other bull runs go still come in the future.
1346  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You only got what you deserve on: February 15, 2024, 06:53:21 AM
Ignorance most times make people to invest in shitcoin. They believe it can be pumped at anything thereby giving them good profit. But they never look into the negativity of it been dumped and making them lose their fund. Just like OP has said, you deserve anything that comes from your action in any investment you made.

I don't think that anybody will deliberately plan to fail in their crypto investment, people plan their investment based on the level of knowledge that they have, so in that sense I wouldn't really say that they deserve the failure of investing in shitcoins, it's just the lack of adequate knowledge. So the main reason why people with good intentions to invest and make profit fail is because of ignorance, lack of proper research to equip themselves with the right knowledge about reputable crypto coins that will guarantee them ROI , like Bitcoin and top altcoins like Ethereum. Unless you want to say that investors deserve what they get based on the level of their knowledge, then I can agree with the OP to an extent.
1347  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin Investment VS Betting 😱😱😱😱 on: February 14, 2024, 05:51:37 PM
Nothing concern Bitcoin investment and betting, di former na digital asset wey don proof im reputation for crypto market as di most reliable crypto coin wey di value go de continue to de increase, while di latter na gambling wey depend on luck for di gambler to win money. Although both of dem get risk factors but di risk of Bitcoin de very minimal and na only wen you invest in am on di short term you no go de sure of profit, because di price de pump and dump, but if you hodle am for long term, no matter how di price fluctuate, e go still de go higher during bull seasons. Bet risks de very high, no matter how you predict di outcome of di game, na by luck you fit to take win.
1348  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Europe should create their own European Forces on: February 14, 2024, 04:03:09 PM
I believe that NATO must have terms of agreement for it's member nations, if they have standard requirements that they abide by, then I wonder why this issue will come up in the first place. If it's the US that have been carrying the burden of funding NATO, then I can't really blame Trump, for making such statements, other member nations must also show financial commitments to their cause.

Although in an election year politicians will make comments to shake up political opponents, just to increase their chances of winning in the election, so I wouldn't bother too much about the trump, comments, because both the US and EU are technologically advanced nations and I believe that they can work out any differences that they might have.

1350  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: This idea will reduce shit posting on the board. on: February 13, 2024, 05:32:44 PM
We know that the best way to correct people is to do the thing you are advising them on so I'm thinking that if our snr bosses can post more in the board, he number of shit post will reduce.
This is a valid point because it is true that the newbies can learn from the established members. If many established members are not posting topics/replies (especially topics that will be more helpful) on the local board, you can visit the English boards to see how established posters are posting. It is not that different from how posting pattern should be on local board.

I want to commend Charles-tim, for im efforts for dis our local board, for my observation without blowing his trumpet, anybody wey de active for dis our local board go testify say among our ogas dem for dis board, im follow de try pass for posting matter. Aldo make our newbies no go take our ogas dem as an excuse to de start low quality posts for our board, if dem no get any meaningful topics to start discussion e better say make dem just de make contributions for quality posts wey odas start, no be by force say dem must start topic for di forum, only start if you get something wey go benefit oda here.
1351  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin be stolen? on: February 12, 2024, 06:57:01 AM
We all know that bitcoin was earlier stolen by James "Jimmy" Zhong
James Zhong is an American man who was convicted in 2022 for stealing over 51,680 bitcoin (then worth about $620,000; value as of 2023 approximately $3.4 billion) from the online black market Silk Road between 2012 and 2014.He was also involved in the early development of bitcoin,he found an error on Silk Road that allowed him to withdraw more funds than what was initially deposited. This was activated by repeatedly double clicking the withdraw button, and further abused by using multiple accounts on the website. Zhong managed to conceal his identity and elude detection for nearly 10 years. He lived a luxurious lifestyle, using tools such as cryptocurrency mixers to obscure the origin of the bitcoin he spent. In 2019, he made a mistake by transferring a small amount of stolen bitcoin to a cryptocurrency exchange that followed know-your-customer rules. The IRS's criminal investigation division then tracked him down.
Source link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Zhong#

It turns out that Bitcoin stealers target not only big companies but individual users with modest amounts in their crypto wallets.

Now bitcoin is one of the safest way to invest digital currency. Because of its new and improved security system it makes it hard for hackers and thief to access

So now the question is bitcoin safe from hackers?, can it be stolen?

I think most things that could happen can be prevented if you are careful. Only download wallets from original sources, keep your see phrase secure, keep your devices secure. If you follow these rules you should be good.

If we're talking about losing Bitcoin from the Blockchain, then I think that it can be near impossible because if it were possible, considering the rate of hacks in the crypto space, we would have heard about Bitcoin hack. But on a personal level, it'll be very possible lose your Bitcoin, especially on the ground of negligence, if seed phrase is lost or stolen, then the Bitcoin in it can be lost, also if a holder keeps their Bitcoin in a centralized exchange, if the exchange is hacked, then the Bitcoin will also be lost. So the advice is to safeguard your Bitcoin in a none custodial wallet and keep your password and seed phrase in a very safe and secured location.
1352  Other / Off-topic / Re: Know when to stop on: February 11, 2024, 11:45:13 AM
Gambling addicts will never stop if they haven't run out of money, that's why OP warns us when to stop, don't let gambling interfere with all our activities and finances, it's better to think carefully than to suffer in the long run.

Any gambler who fails in knowing when to stop, gambling by itself will tell him when by the time it has taken him to another level he himself couldn't understand how, we have always been saying it that we should gamble responsibly, anyone who doesn't will have to face the consequences with gambling on their own risk as such, if we are gambling , then we have to be that observant in knowing when to stop or continue as the case may be, this is how we are going to know a gambler who has self control over himself while gambling from those who doesn't.

I very much agree with you, if a gambler is not disciplined to know when to stop, by the time he goes totally broke and no sources to borrow money to gamble, coupled with the fact that you can't gamble on credit, then stop becomes inevitable, whether he likes it or not. But it doesn't have to reach that stage of losing everything before a gambler will know with regrets that they should've stopped earlier and saved themselves avoidable loses. Every gambler that plans to gamble responsibly must have a budget for gambling and be very disciplined not to exceed the set limit.
1353  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Matters Arising. on: February 11, 2024, 08:14:42 AM

Di news wey we here about our patriotic citizens dem wey die unto say dem heart fail dem, wey finally lead to dem untimely deaths, wen dem reason say Nigeria, go lose our match to south Africa, may their souls rest in peace. 1354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solana network shuts down, will you still invest in SOL? on: February 11, 2024, 07:34:06 AM
Considering how scam projects are being dumped inside the crypto market, any credible project that has proven it's reputation in the market is good to go, despite any facts of setbacks that they might have. So this Solana, network shutdowns can be overlooked by it's investors inasmuch as it won't affect their investment, hopefully in a matter of time it's team will fix the problem. Trusted and reputable coins/tokens are a rare commodity in the crypto space, so when investors sees one that it's trust ratings are high, it'll be easier to overlook some shortcomings that'll affect it.
1355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: X-Cash on: February 10, 2024, 05:04:42 PM
This is a dead project and one of the things that annoys me most is that there would be people that really bought this project hoping to sell when the price goes up but looking at the nature of things now, this project had been dead for long and now w are entering 2024 which is going to make it almost a year plus this project had last posted. I don't trust many of the projects these days because a lots of things do happen making projects to end up in rug pull.

A newbie investor into cryptocurrency should make sure that they gain a lot of knowledge about how the crypto market works, because there are a lot of projects that'll enter the market with hypes of continuity and giving their investors huge and continues ROI, in the end they won't live up to expectations and die with investors funds. So investing in new projects in the crypto space is a gamble, and to minimize the risks of losing money, a newbie must atleast learn how to carry out research of the coin/token that they want to buy. It's safe to buy Bitcoin, anytime, because you don't have to worry about it  being dead, it has proven it's reputation in the crypto market.
1356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you were Satoshi Nakamoto, what would you do? on: February 10, 2024, 12:45:53 PM
I agree with the general consensus here, if I were Satoshi Nakamoto, I'll remain anonymous forever, as a true example and representation of the freedom and privacy that Bitcoin guarantees. Revealing his true identity to a few trusted family and friends can be risky for him, because you can never truly trust people to keep your secrets, but the most important thing for him is to keep inheritance for his family, despite him protecting his identity from his Bitcoin.
1357  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: DO NOT plug random cables and sticks into your device. on: February 10, 2024, 08:28:55 AM
Good compilation and enlightening advice on how to protect our funds. I also think that the best option is to avoid any form of external connection to the device that has your wallet. Having a separate device that is solely reserved for your Bitcoin transaction might be expensive but it might be a good security precaution especially if you own huge funds. But I have learned so much from this thread and will always be conscious about devices around my workspace.

A separate device for your crypto wallets and exchanges can be the answer to this problem, so a Bitcoin, holder will not fall prey to these hacks, because sometimes it can be necessary to plug your device to external connections. With a separate device for your Bitcoin, you'll have to be extra careful and never connected to unfamiliar connectors, thanks OP for sharing this vital information.

1358  Other / Politics & Society / Re: High Crimes in UK London what is the problem ? on: February 09, 2024, 10:16:02 AM
I've always heard that UK, is a civilized society and people are well behaved there, it's a pity that we're hearing of violent crimes in these so called civilized societies, I'll want to agree with some views that have been shared on this topic that the problems can be attributed to the influx of immigrants into UK, because the economy guarantees a better standard of living, many people will think that you'll be instantly rich when you go there, and if it doesn't happen as planned, some of them or their offsprings will take to crime to succeed. However violent crimes are not perculiar to the UK and the US, it's a global issue, it's even worse in developing and underdeveloped countries.
1359  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: The internet and crypto on: February 09, 2024, 09:30:22 AM
Di internet don come to stay in di world, so weda anybody like am or not, e no change di fact say internet don make life easier for di areas of communication, transactions, innovations in technology, marketing and many other ways to give people employments and to make achievement of things to de easier.

For crypto matter na internet make am to de possible, because without am, digital transactions for no de possible, we for still de for di era of traditional cash society. Make we note say scams and hacks plenty for di crypto space, because we get plenty scam projects and dem de hack wallets and exchanges, dat na why we need to de knowledgeable and carry out research to know about reputable cryptos before we invest our money. So di most trusted and reputable crypto na Bitcoin, den some trusted top altcoins like Ethereum and BNB.
1360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: This Blockchain Seems Promising and has an Emerging Coin to Watch on: February 09, 2024, 06:48:46 AM
Yes DYM was another huge drop to the Celestia community which took many people unaware.  I feel a bit sad that I miss the opportunity to earn free dym like many people. And the surprising aspect is how the price has been very steady since the launch date.
Like the OP pointed out, this is the period of interoperability is here and many similar projects will show up.
DYM, TIA and ATOM stakers will benefit a great deal moving forward because projects from these chains will want to airdrop to stakers of these coins just like what dym did with tia stakers.

This dym project is getting quite the hype in this thread, I've looked it up and I think that it can have some potentials for it's investors, we'll just have to wait and see how it goes for them. I also missed out on it's airdrop, but no regrets for me because I'm all out exclusively for Bitcoin, in this coming bull run.
