1361  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Crash and wallet file erasing? on: October 05, 2017, 10:08:17 PM
Yes it's possible that your wallet file was not fully committed to disk because of the crash. You should run scan disk on your hard drive to check for bad sectors.

Also if the hard disk is an SSD? Does this matter in any way?

Same thing applies. The file wasn't committed to disk because of the crash. Could be a problem with the disk or some other piece of hardware in your system. It's not an electrum problem.

never seen a blue dot before. are you sure you downloaded electrum from electrum.org?
1363  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Am I screwed? Electrum Wallet on: October 05, 2017, 04:37:24 PM
There is no need to reinstall electrum if he just wants to restore his wallet. He can begin the process via file > new/restore.

1365  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Move Electrum wallet from old laptop to new laptop on: October 05, 2017, 04:31:26 PM
My instructions maybe wrong for older versions. For example IDK where in the gui certain options are. You haven't specified the version either which is a mistake.

First of all grab the seed from wallet menu > seed. It's also accessible via the seed icon in the bottom right of the window. Write the seed down on paper.

Then see if the save copy option is there in the file menu. Use that to save a copy of your wallet file.

If the save copy option is not there find and backup your wallet file:

http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/faq.html#where-is-my-wallet-file-located

Then on the new computer install electrum and open your wallet file :

https://bitcoinelectrum.com/frequently-asked-questions/#how-do-i-open-a-different-wallet

If you need to do a restore from seed then here are instructions for that:

https://bitcoinelectrum.com/restoring-your-standard-wallet-from-seed/

Note that your labels will not be preserved if you do a restore from seed. If you want your labels to preserved enable the label sync plugin on the laptop first:

https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-use-the-electrum-label-sync-plugin/

Your labels are preserved if you use the wallet file backup.

You distro's repos haven't updated to a newer version. Install from source as per the instructions on electrum.org/#download. Note you may need to apt-get install python-setuptools too.
1367  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Tx shows up in block explorer but not in electrum on: October 03, 2017, 11:24:18 AM
What version of electrum are you using? The version number should be in the window title.

Sometimes it stops syncing even with the green dot. Close electrum and run it again to get it to sync.

And BTW you can ctrl+f to search for addresses on the addresses tab.
1368  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: is electrum 1.9.8 still usable... on: October 02, 2017, 04:22:35 PM
You should backup your seed if you haven't done so already, uninstall electrum using apt-get or whatever and then install python-setuptools, pyqt4 and python-pip. then download and install the latest electrum as per the installation instructions on electrum.org/#download . Unlike most software on linux electrum has to be installed manually from source tarball because it updates very often and distro vendors don't keep up with the latest.

I am sorry to derail the thread

then why do it? create your own thread!
1370  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Private keys on: October 02, 2017, 04:14:19 PM
regarding the password see post number 11 above. regarding the strength of the seed it is 128 bits which is very secure. converting it to a human friendly representation in the form of 12 words does not change that.
1371  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Problem with google authenticator in Electrum on: October 02, 2017, 06:47:01 AM
Does this mean, I will have to correct this "bug" myself, provided it is one, of course?

We are trying to help but we can't do that if you don't answer the questions you are asked. I asked you about the seed above. It consists of between 12 and 25 random English words that are shown during the wallet creation process and you are supposed to put it down on paper. Do you have it? If so do a restore using seed. Start with file menu > new/restore, enter a filename for your new wallet file and click next.
1372  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Private keys on: September 29, 2017, 04:11:55 PM
Did you write down the 12 word seed mnemonic? That is in effect your private key. If you were not shown a seed mnemonic then that means you already have a wallet on your PC that either you or some malware created for you.
1373  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Problem with google authenticator in Electrum on: September 27, 2017, 02:52:11 PM
no it's open source software and support is only by the community.

do you have the seed written down? If so you can restore your wallet using it. Start with file > new/restore.
1374  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 13 words seed help on: September 25, 2017, 07:21:30 AM
No other wallet supports electrum seed mnemonics. Not the 13 word one you have nor the 12 word ones that newer wallets carry. So drop this idea.

You can't convert a 13 word seed to a 12 word one. It would create a totally different wallet if you did that.

To move your bitcoins to a different wallet you just send them to a receiving address of the new wallet. This is the simplest way to do it.
1375  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Using Electrum script to monitor incoming transactions? on: September 23, 2017, 11:35:03 AM
you should not split the payments up after every single transaction. that will cost way too much in fees. instead make periodic payouts to the authors say once a month.
1376  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: ELECTRUM ISSUES - NEED HELP TO TRACK LOST BITCOIN? on: September 22, 2017, 08:36:15 AM
Hi,

1- Your wallet file is a 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) wallet
This is the most likely scenario, as i enabled 2FA when I created the wallet. I do however have access to the Authenticator, so wondering, if I can use that to retrieve it?

If not, what are my options? Do I just withdraw the remaining BTW to an exchange and then install a new wallet?

There is no need to withdraw to an exchange or "install a new wallet" (whatever that means). Electrum supports unlimited wallets so you can create a new wallet via file menu > new/restore. Make sure you write down the seed this time. Here's a guide to creating a new standard wallet. After you've created a new wallet grab a receiving address, switch to your old wallet and send all your bitcoins to the receiving address of your new wallet. Then stop using your old wallet.

Note that you have to do the above because in your current situation you are liable to lose your bitcoins if you lose your phone. Without the authenticator code trusted coin will not sign transactions from your 2fa wallet and since you don't have the seed your SOL if you lose your phone.
1377  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore my electrum wallet with 2FA, please help me on: September 22, 2017, 03:08:51 AM
Open your old wallet, go tools menu > network, uncheck "select server automatically", go to servers tab, find electrum.no-ip.org in the list of servers, right click on it and choose use this server. Now I understand your interface is in chinese so this might be hard to follow but the idea is basically to choose a different electrum server.

Next do a restore of your old wallet from seed again. Go to file menu > new/restore to begin the process. In the first step it'll ask for a filename for your new wallet file so give it that.

The reason I'm asking you to do a restore again is because you should have addresses on the addresses. Even if the seed is not for the wallet in question there should definitely be addresses on the addresses tab. The addresses tab is the last tab in that picture you posted in the first post.
1378  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore my electrum wallet with 2FA, please help me on: September 21, 2017, 08:06:47 AM
When restoring did you make sure to select 2 factor authentication when asked what kind of wallet it was?
Electrum autodetects 2FA seeds (even if you select "standard wallet")... and will still generate it as a 2FA wallet.

I'm thinking he may have 12 out of 24 words of the old 2fa seed mnemonic and he's restored the wallet as a standard wallet. Not sure whether that is possible but I want to rule it out anyway by asking him this question.

@zjt did you write down the 12 words seed of the old wallet during the wallet creation process or did you get them later from wallet menu > seed?
1379  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore my electrum wallet with 2FA, please help me on: September 21, 2017, 07:08:41 AM
Thanks @Abdussamad

When I try to restore the old 2fa wallet, there is no warning or error message, after do that, no send/receive history and no banlace found( in fact there are several BTCs in it)
there are 12 words in the seed of this old wallet, and I am sure seed is right for I just copy and paste them
I forget which version I used to create this wallet, but it is in near Jan 2017, 9 months ago I created it.

Are the addresses on the addresses tab familiar ones?

When restoring did you make sure to select 2 factor authentication when asked what kind of wallet it was?
1380  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: ELECTRUM ISSUES - NEED HELP TO TRACK LOST BITCOIN? on: September 20, 2017, 02:48:30 PM
Thanks for all the help guys. The BTC did eventually turn-up and it was an issue with the exchange (Bitfinex) which was eventually resolved.

It sounds like you have downloaded either the "standalone executable" or the "portable" version of Electrum rather than the full installer... This is why you don't have desktop icons etc.

That does seem to be the case. I wonder, if I was to simply download the full windows version (and also update in the process), if it would still be able to restore the balances etc. from the current version or if I need to back-up any specific wallet files? On another note, I do not remember my seed phrase, but I do have my password, I was wondering if there is a way to get the seed phrase back or reset it?

Thanks

You should definitely note down the seed phrase on paper. You can get it via the wallet menu > seed.

Just install electrum using the installer version and see if it opens your wallet by default or not.

If it doesn't then see if the wallet file is in the same directory as your standalone/portable electrum executable that you are currently using. Rename it to default_wallet and move it to the electrum wallet directory:
